The memories came back slowly at first came great pain and darkness, but it only lasted for a few moments before a different memory came by... The gentle embrace of his mother and father in a beautifull yet familiar field, other children could be seen in the distance, but he had the feeling they were different than him; they didn't posess mechanical components like he did, they didn't need them. He did remember being told about hybrid children suffering from birth defects sometimes, most of them didn't make it past their infancy stage due to deformations with their skeletal systems, the incorrectly forms pierced internal organs inevitably killing the child before the parents were even aware of it. It didn't quite make sense how he managed to make it this far though, but then again... He was the first one with a fully mechanical skeletal system. As the memories continued to come back to him, he finally remembered all that he needed to know; he had lived on a home world named Haven living with a forerunner father and a human mother, his skeletal system was somewhat deformed at birth, but not enough to the point where it was lethal, but it did sadden his parents that he wasn't able to do what most other children could due to his deformations. Eventually his father and his mother working together went to work on fashioning a new skeleton for him, a more durable one that would expand along with him, but it would heal alot more slowly because of it's mechanical properties so it was made more durable than most bones, but not indestructable either, even forerunner technology had only advanced so far. Once the surgery had been complete, he was free to walk for the first time just like everyone else, taking his first shaky steps into the world, it was then that a girl just about his age met him catching him as he was about to topple. He had thought it odd at first to see someone away from the other children, but they made friends quickly, it seemed he wasn't the only eccentric person around, they often chased each other through the fields beyond each being able to keep just barely ahead of the other. Then, things changed, the flood attacked and their planet was consumed by the unrelenting mass of writhing flesh and creatures whom were formed from the people that fell in the desperate attempt to defend their only home, his parents had brought him to one of the evac ships destined to escape the planet, Jane, the girl he had befriended was nowhere to be seen. However it didn't seem to matter in the end, the ship itself wasn't enough to withstand the parasite's onslaught, a writhing mass of living flesh was covering the ship from the inside out, all it took was one infected passenger. As a last resort, his parents placed him in one of the few remaining escape pods along with that sword his father had always carried; a tribute to the unity of forerunners are humans, even though for the most part both races were rather hostile to each other. Soon enough, he was recovered by another human ship, eventually being told of his home planets destruction... Only a few other survivors were found, but no word of Jane or his parents.
York sighed, tears streaming down his cheeks as he realized just how much he missed his home planet, that longing feeling that he was missing something, a place he wanted to go, it made more sense now that he thought about it. There was little chance of going back to his "home" now, or at least the home he came to know on the battlefield, perhaps it was better if it stayed that way... There really wasn't much left for him back there, finally out of his thoughts he noticed his stomach was growling again, looking at the food that was still placed in the shelter he figured it wouldn't hurt to eat some of it, so he lit the fire again by raising a hand carefully and firing a small blue spark, it was faster than trying to manually do it right now anyways. Cooking the food over the fire carefully using a relatively sharp stick nearby as a "spit", it wasn't the best job but he didn't care, he was too hungry to even care honestly. Eating the food he had cooked as quickly as he could, he started to feel tired with his stomach full now, so without much else to do he lay down figuring he'd sleep for a bit, he hoped Kylara would be back soon enough in the morning.
......
The next day, or night to be precise; he'd slept through most of the day as tired as he was, but a sudden noise startled him awake, Kylara was practically yelling about something, and listening in, he nodded a little. As expected this planet had remnants of what once might have been a civilization around, however it seemed whatever sentient beings had lived there were gone now, for one reason for another... Perhaps they'd have better luck if they covered more ground. The loud roar suddenly made him crane his neck despite the pain in his side, his injury was still a minor nuisance right now, it'll probably get worse if the bacterial infection keeps up. Though the roar was more concerning to him, it meant something was alive on this planet, something hostile... "Is it..." He whispered to himself trying to determine if the parasite had somehow made it onto this planet, it was highly unlikely though, probably some other crazy beast, but he knew they couldn't stay here. Before he could attempt to get up and run though, Kylara had already helped him up, hooking his arm around her shoulder which he gratefully leaned on making sure he was pulling his own weight though as they ran. He was glad, but rather amazed at this act of kindness, it wasn't quite expected from her, even though she did seem pretty nice despite being a little her.
