Hope's Pass Sign Ups

Overview:
This takes place in the 1800's where women where the long dresses and men ride around with guns and horses. Nestled deep in the valley of Colorado is a small down that's starting to blossom. Not many people live there yet, but it's growing which shows promise. But of course, there's also the distinct line of rich and poor as well. The rich have nicer things and speak better than the one's they consider poor. Though there isn't too much of that yet as the town is still small.

So basically everyone's character has a specific role in this town. A list of different possible roles will be listed a little farther down the line of the thread here. But some characters can be more like NPC's that you play. An exampleof this would be if you wanted to play as a daughter of a family. You could play the daughter but unless someone else has agreed to play the parent, you would be responsible for them, though they wouldn't be mentioned often, only during times that they would happen to be around.
Another example would be if no one chose an important role, such as the store keeper. This would mean that every time someone goes to the store, you'd have to play the store keeper as well for the moment until your character leaves. These NPC characters would tend to be slightly underdevolped and you don't have to go into much detail about them in case someone else comes along and decides to play that role.

= No godmodding please. Make sure to ask the other player before doing anything too serious to their character or anything like that
= cursing is fine but not excessively
= No one liners. You need to have at the very least, 4-5 full sentences or more.
= You can play up to two or three characters as long as you can handle that amount
= most importantly, have fun!!{/slide}
{slide=Character Info|center}
Here is a list of the role your characters could be. Your character may also be an apprentice to these as well.

Name:
Claire Charlotte Winterfield
Age:
20 almost 21
Height:
5'6
Gender:
female
Sexual preference:
straight

Personality:
She's normally pretty calm and laid back. She likes to have fun and pull pranks on her family and occasionally on friends too. She can have a bit of a short temper and riled up somewhat easily but usually apologizes afterward if she's offended people. She has a good heart and means well.
Hobbies:
Reading, drawing, sewing, cooking/baking treats to sell or give away
Role in community:
store keeper
Bio:

Her family moved to Hope's Pass when she was about three years old so she doesn't really remember anything else but this town. Her mother died shortly after the move due to poor health and once she took ill, she wasn't strong enough to get better again. Her father raised her and her older brother Matthew for the next several years but once Matthew turned seventeen, he decided he wanted to see more of the world and took off on his own. So she learnt how to run the store and enjoyed her time with her father who died when she was eighteen. His cause of death was Indians that robbed him when he was bringing supplies back for their store. So now she lives on her own in the back of the store but don't be fooled by her good looks or charm. She has guns and she knows how to use them thanks to her father who always wanted her to be safe.

Sexual preference:

Personality:

Other:
Is 3 months pregnant
Hobbies:

horse back riding when possible, drawing, sewing
Role in community:
helps in post office but is not owner
Bio:

Her parents never wanted her since she was actually an accident they hadn't meant to have happened. They didn't bother to hide that fact either and would often belittle her while they drank and normally hung out in saloons. Her family would travel from one town to the next quite frequently and when she turned fifteen, her parents 'sold' her to a saloon in a small town they were passing through. She had to work there for two years before she finally got her chance to escape. She ran off with a guy she loved and who she thought loved her too. However, she became pregnant and when he found out, he was furious and dumped her in the next town he rode through which was Hope's Pass. Now a month later, she's managed to get herself a job at the small post office to help pay for her lodging in the hotel, though she knows that once it starts to show that she's pregnant, no one will talk to her as it is considered a great disgrace to have a child outside of wedlock.

Name:

Matthew Isaac Anderson ("Matt" for short)

Age:

19

Height:

5'6" (weighs 120lbs)

Gender:

Male

Sexual preference:

Heterosexual

Personality:

Matthew is very polite to everyone he meets, male or female. Most girls find it hard to tell if he's flirting or just being nice. Matthew can be odd at times, but that's just because he tries to see the world from every outlook. Even though he smiles, he sometimes feels that nobody really gets him except for a select few.

However, he's a fun guy who would stop at nothing to turn anybody's frown upside down. He's a hopeless romantic, but hopes to one day finally make the girl of his dreams happy (as soon as he meets her, that is). He is also very adventurous and loves the thrill of a good book. His love for nature really provides him with a green thumb, as he's always trying to protect the natural land wherever he can by doing the smallest of things. Matthew is very knowledgeable about a great many things, but he doesn't flaunt it around for fear of being labeled as a smart ass or possibly a witch. He often thinks before he acts, but he learns quickly from his mistakes.

He's also a little shy and requires some prodding in order to act outside of his comfort zone, but once you get to know him and peel away the timid shell surrounding him, 'Matt' is an amazing guy who can easily become a very good friend. He's trustworthy and honest, taking it upon himself to act like a gentleman whenever he can.

Hobbies:

• Reading Books

• Tending to his Farm/Animals

• Spending time with those who are close to him

• Cooking

• Singing/Playing Guitar

• Horseback Riding

• Gun Practice (to a lesser extent than everything else, it's more of a necessity then a 'hobby' thanks to the constant threat of thieves/ruffians)

Role in community:

Owner of 'Anderson Flats', the largest ranch in town. (The ranch grows various crops and also harbours cattle, horses, and other barn-animals).

History:

Matthew was born as the second son in a family of four, being the youngest sibling. His mother was a school teacher who was well known throughout Hope's Pass for her specialty summer treat; spiced peaches. His father was a small-time cattle rancher who set up shop just outside Hope's Pass, about a mile or two away from the small town. Finding a moderate amount of success by selling both produce and meat, Atticus (Matt's father) eventually began to expand his inventory. Hiring on some more hands, Atticus eventually managed to acquire various fruits and vegetables, wheat, and additional animals such as pigs, sheep, and a few horses for the farm. As profits began to rise, Atticus and his wife, Beatrice (Matthew's mother), decided to start a family. Over the course of the next 5 years, the happy couple had four children; Phillip, Sarah, Clara, and Matthew. While his older siblings were only separated age-wise by one year, Matthew's conception was actually unplanned and as a result, he is two years younger then Clara.

Unfortunately by the time Matthew was 6, a wave of tragedy began to strike his family. Shorty after Matthew's birthday, Beatrice was stricken with tuberculosis and died shortly after Christmas. He never truly got over losing his mother at such an early age, but Matthew always honoured her memory by continuing to sell her spiced peaches. Around this time, Phillip left the farm to purse work on the railroad while Sarah and Clara stayed behind to tend to her father. Matthew also stayed, promising to help his father tend to the farm until Phillip came back and claimed it as his inheritance.

When Matt was 12, Phillip finally came home... In a casket. While constructing a dangerous section of the railroad which stretched over a gorge, Phillip's safety restraints came loose and he plummeted 100 feet to the ground below. The impact killed him instantly, breaking his legs and snapping his neck all in one swift movement. Atticus was grief stricken, having lost both his wife and his son, but he was guided through his grief with the assistance of his remaining children. Knowing Matthew had done such an amazing job on the farm, Atticus promised that when he died, Anderson Flats would be left to Matt.

Finally, when Matthew was 17, the line of tragedy amongst his family finally ended. While travelling back to town from a cattle drive down in Montana, Atticus and Clara were unexpectedly apprehended by outlaws, who raided their cart, stole the remaining cattle, and killed Matthew's father. They also abducted Clara and presumably made her into a wife, before her body was found discarded in a cave close to the town of Penbrook (west of Hope's Pass).

Matthew and Sarah were grief stricken, having lost almost their entire family in a matter of 11 years, but knew they had to be strong. They were still alive and they had each other and the ranch, which now belonged to Matthew.

In the two years that followed, Matthew and his sister managed to keep their profits and managed to acquire a modest 'fortune', but they still live within their means. Sarah got married to one of her old school friends and moved to the town of Penbrook to live on his farm. To this day, Matthew continues to run Anderson Flats, but things have been slightly tougher ever since the mayor of Hope's Pass began to pester Matt about selling the land to him. The farm was Matthew's birthright, so he had no intention of selling it... But that hasn't stopped the mayor from constantly pestering the young rancher about it.

Other:

Matthew owns an Old English Sheepdog named 'Maxwell', whom he adores.

He's not married, as he's waiting to find the right woman who isn't just after his farm-profits.

Matt also has grown to dislike the Mayor of Hope's Pass, as he's been demanding that Anderson Flats become property of the town so 'everyone' came benefit from it (but Matthew knows he only wants the profits for himself).

Just gonna throw my two cents in there as well, but perhaps you might want to have the Mayor/politician as a role people could play. Somebody's gotta run the town, right?

Just offering the idea, feel free to say no ^^

Well, even though we don't have as many people as I hoped for starting the rp, I could still set up the rp thread now if you guys would like to get started already?

Sure, it's up to you.
