The Mournful Few 1a.jpg

What if I told you the answer to one of the most haunting questions to ever plague mankind lied in some dusty old archives? Ask yourself, do you believe in God? What am I talking about...simply this. My team and I believe we now have evidence of the absolute scientific proof that the supernatural exists. Back in the early 1920's there lived a rogue monk named Father David Andreas and it's off his findings that we have based all of our work. Father Andreas lived in the upper reaches of the British Isles and his fifty plus years of working for the Clergy, he found something so Earth shattering, that a normal man's mind would go mad just contemplating it. Father Andreas' journey carried him through a dark and malevolent world of demons and unspeakable evil. But, ironically enough, it was this very evil that he believed he could use to prove the existence of God. Using Andreas' notes and categorical documents, we are on the hunt for a special type of demonic entity that the good father coined" The Mournful Ones." These demons are the key to our theory. When these spirits inhabit a human host, they leave behind tangible evidence of their presence. They mutate the host's DNA down to a molecular level, leaving trace evidence so minute, that they have gone undetected, until now. It is this evidence we seek to prove to the world the existence of a supernatural dimension of angels and demons. All the while we ourselves are being hunted by shadowy operatives employed by the highest echelons of the Catholic Church. If we can obtain the molecular material we need and at the same time break into the secret Vatican Archives, we can prove to the world once and for all that God exists. But here's the catch, The Church doesn't want our findings known, because belief without faith renders them powerless. Our small group consists of paranormal investigators, demonologists, code breakers and scholars all dedicated to finding the truth. We must navigate a sinister labyrinth of demonic possession, political intrigue and religious conspiracy and the odds are most certainly stacked against us. Time is running out...

Occupation:
Paranormal Investigator/ Demonologist

Bio:

Cayden was born the illegitimate son of a wealthy Peruvian banker and financier. Although he was born as a child of privilege, Cayden saw little of his father and was left to be raised within the confines of boarding schools. When he was fifteen, he had an experience that profoundly changed his life. Cayden had lost his virginity to a much older woman who was a self proclaimed witch. One night after making love, the woman began to perform an arcane ritual in which she wanted young Cayden to participate. The ritual involved blood letting and the summoning of a supposed demon. During the ritual, the young man was so frightened that he ran off, vowing never to see the woman again. The experience affected him so deeply that Cayden felt the only way to atone was to become a part of the Clergy. He entered seminary training at only the age of nineteen and became a full priest by the time he was twenty two, one of the youngest ever to do so. Using his exceptional intellect and photographic memory, the young man began to pour himself into every form of religious text and study he could get his hands on. But there was another appetite Cayden could not seem to satisfy. Being a natural virile young man, he had large difficulty keeping his vows of chastity, engaging in a number of torrid flings with several young women. It was only a matter of time before these affairs caught up to him and was forced out of the Catholic Church. Being told he was possessed by a demon of lust, Cayden decided to investigate deeper. This led him down a veritable rabbit hole and he soon found himself enthralled within the fringe study of demonology.

Using his inherited wealth, Cayden traveled the globe eventually discovering a century old manuscript within an old abbey in Northern Scotland. The manuscript entitled Unheard Lamentations, was written by trailblazing fringe monk known as Father Andreas. Within the manuscript, Andreas outlines his life as an exorcist and details a radical theory that the existence of God could be proven with the use of none other than demons. Fascinated, Cayden became obsessed in tracking down a special type of demonic entity that Andreas called The Mournful Few, as he believed they were the key to exposing the truth. Cayden has spent over a decade travelling the world, becoming an expert in ancient Semitic and Mesopotamian culture and languages, earning a doctorate in pre Semitic anthropology . He has started a team of investigators exploring a dark world of supernatural phenomena and demonic exorcism in order to expose the truth. Trouble is, they may be closer than anyone wants them to get...

Name: Felix Pavarotti

Age: 30

Height: 5'7"

Appearance:
Ky7FjrF.jpg

Special Abilities: As far as special abilities goes, Felix is known to bring a wide array of experimental tech on the job. He's designed a few detection apps, that supposedly read auras [think the ripple effect on tiktok], a body scanner that is supposedly able to read higher than normal EMF field within someone [think a modified Geiger counter] - whether or not his detection apps and his scanner work is a mixed bag of reactions. But they sort of do their job and are reliable even if some of the extra features they supposedly have don't - seem to some.

Skills: Technically Felix area of study was in the Pathology of Injury, what causes injury, what are the signs of injury, what causes cellular damage, how does the body recovery from injury. While Forensics has always been a controversial field, he has been trying to take different approaches to identifying wounds in the world of investigation, looking at it from a micro and macro. Later a lot of this applied to an even more fringe area of study, which is possession and identifying the supernatural in others.

Occupation: Demonic Pathologist

Bio:
The Theory on Technology and the Supernatural and How Pathology may be the Answer
Felix Pavarotti

The title alone probably has me laughed out of the science world already. There is no room for the medical field nor the scientific field for fringe sciences. And even the mention of the Supernatural probably has a few folks already questioning my sanity. However, shadows walking across undoctored security cameras, unrecognizable footsteps walking up some stairs, child friendships with invisible beings, dogs and cats barking or hissing into thin air. All of these events have something in common. Something unknown and invisible to the naked eye. Almost every culture shares a belief in the supernatural, but we often explain it away with science and yet science doesn’t have an answer for everything. Electronic Voice Phenomenon have always picked up on the answers of someone sentient to a question asked. Ways of explaining this off, have always been voices outside, but the science field knows how sound waves carry a voice wouldn’t come so clearly as if someone was standing right next to you. I think that Science and the Supernatural can co-exist and I think the fields of study we have can be applied to the Supernatural.
----------------------------------

Strange is probably the best summary of Felix’s life up to this point. He’d probably be known as the awkward, quirky kid, that the school had a rumor about growing up one day to be a serial killer or something along those lines. He always had his head buried in the science fiction and horror genres growing up as a kid. His fascination may have been enabled by his grandmother who was supposedly a psychic medium who could see other worlds. His parents paid no attention to it nor fed into it, she was just another old lady with dementia after all. His sister was born the same way. She claimed to see shadows in their home, and would talk to invisible strangers. This was Felix’s first ghost hunt really, at ten year olds, he set up cameras in their house to record his home at night. His parents allowed him to do it, in hopes that he would give up the idea once he discovered there was nothing wrong.

Instead there was an archive of doors opening on their own. Shadows walking up the stairs. Strange electric distortions on cameras. Weird time glitches. Felix knew then that his sister and his grandmother may be right. But his parents never really truly believed him. They called them, electrical glitches, and told him the camera was just messing up. Or that he was seeing something he wanted to see. They dismissed his claims, even with evidence in hand. It was the first time a question lingered in his mind, why do some people believe in the supernatural and others do not? What drives one person to be skeptical and another to not?

When he was fifteen his grandmother passed, the funeral never sat right with him even nowadays. Where people spoke about his grandmother like she was completely touched. He didn’t believe it. He believed her, that she saw things others couldn’t. He also believed that kind of power is what leads people to eventually lose their minds.

At eighteen he did the very stereotypical thing all teens were expected to do. Graduate high school and go to college. In which he was fascinated with Pathology. But Pathology to further his agenda. To create a whole different study of pathology, one that understood the supernatural world and its effects on people. He was considered a lunatic then, as he is now. His parents no longer associate with him after his ridiculous college paper. And his er mental instability after his sister, at the age of twenty-three, went missing with no clues or details, nobody. He is convinced that something saw her seeing them and took her away. His parents are under the impression she was kidnapped or sex trafficked in some way. And could no longer take his crazy ideas. He’s not hopeful to find his sister alive. Only the answers as to what happened to her, knowing no one really is going to believe the proof he digs up.

Eventually Felix was approached by a stranger who addressed himself as Cayden during one of Felix's seminars. Just another routine seminar where Felix was actively dismissed by the community he was presenting to. But Cayden was different, he listened, took what Felix had to say. Eventually Felix joined Cayden's merry little team.

.20200731_175609.jpg

Special Abilities/Skills:
Motivated by revenge, enabling an obsessive and fanatical personality previously shrouded in her previous social position. Practically speaking, really well motivated with not much to lose. Can hold breath for two minutes. Can write cursive. Knows a decent summary of the law and legal practices.

Occupation: Retail clerk at some nondescript wholesaler / recently completed a diploma in Criminology / now a freelance demon hunter

Bio:
Cassandra was one of those girls who discussed and watched excessive amounts of crime drama in high school, considering herself somewhat of a serial killer enthusiast. With this excitement, she took a two year course in criminology right after graduating, learning a great deal about the law, society, and it's victims. This venture plunged her into considerable debt, which she sought to repay while living with her best friend in a two bedroom apartment, while working a dreary retail job. Nevertheless, life was bearable, having escaped her emotionally unstable family and secured affordable living space with her bestie.
Her friend, whose name was Mel, was considerably more successful with the career side of life. At least, it seemed that way. She supposedly worked from home, locked in her room typing away at a laptop, with only a few meetings per month she'd leave for. She secured the job during her own business degree, by unknown means. Cass frankly wasn't interested in the details until Mel began to act strangely in response to being questioned about the job. One thing led to another, and Mel locked herself in her room for several days without leaving.
Eventually Mel's online "work" was tracked down by a covert group dedicated to hunting demons. They insisted she was a communication relay between several sinister individuals and groups, something of an online organizer and planner. They performed actions to reveal the demon using Mel as a host, and then vanquished the creature. Unfortunately Mel herself has been a host for a while, and her body was left nothing more than a hollow shell. The shock hit hard and Cassandra swore to get back at those demonic bastards and destroy whatever vestiges of evil exist in the world. Through a combination of tear streaked insistence and hate filled determination, she persuaded the group to let her help them, in whatever way she could.

She was never religious, but could readily acknowledge the existence of demons when presented so explicitly. Cassandra was, however, a witchcraft enthusiast, enjoying the aesthetics and excessive use of candles involved. She doesn't care much if higher powers exist or not, as long as demons can be destroyed, she considers herself involved, and so engages wholeheartedly in the field of demonology.

Cayden could have attended one of Felix's seminars, drawn to it's unusual nature. While everyone else laughed at Felix, Cayden was intrigued, recognizing Felix's technical know how could be invaluable in helping to track down a Mournful.

Name: Morna Kavanagh
Age: 26
Height: 5'6
Physical Appearance:
1596746605778.png
Special Abilities/Skills: Shape-shifting, Telekinesis, Deception, Seduction, Knows 5 Languages - English, Gaelic, Spanish, French, and Italian
Occupation: Librarian (part-time), Bartender, (part-time), Sex Worker (occasional)
Bio:
Nobody knows Morna's secrets and she covers her tracks well. A female demon called Aoife inhabits Morna, and Morna serves as the demon's host, carrying out the demon's desires and mandates faithfully. In turn, the female demon grants Morna several profound powers (shape-shifting, telekinesis, long-lasting youthful appearance and full health, eliminated physical need for sleep) and protection and immunity from other demonic entities and people that preyed on Morna in the past. Morna's family, the Kavanagh's, partake in a sophisticated crime ring which attracts many enemies, leading to a price being placed on Morna's head while she was in the first years of university, studying library science and languages. Prior to this, Morna was a quiet, reserved girl, lost in her world of books and fantasies. Simultaneously, Morna was involved in a toxic relationship with a wealthy demon-afflicted man during university, and she met Aoife after losing her virginity to him. Prior to this, she did not know about the existence of demons and was not sure how to defend herself from the rival mafia after her, from her own family, and from the abusive boyfriend as well. Aoife targeted her in this vulnerability and provided a solution, with many rewards. In this darkness, Morna fully embraced her, vowed to serve her, and under her instruction, killed the abusive boyfriend and robbed him. She left her family and has little contact with them, only communicating with them when she needs to pick up information about the rival mafias and other persons of interest in the area. These days, she lives quite comfortably on her own, and does not like to stay in one place for long, preferring to drift. With her degree and language skill, she picks up many library jobs and bartending jobs in expensive bars where she likes to meet wealthy clientele to collect information from, seduce, and eventually, exploit or rob in some fashion. She also likes to meet wealthy clientele through sex work. She follows Aoife's instruction over her own at any time, fulfilling her objectives and enjoying in the subsequent wealth and power. Sometimes the old real Morna, the frightened teenager, whispers internally against what is happening, but then is quickly silenced. As time goes on, Aoife's mandates are getting more intense and vying for more power, with sights set on the most influential people in the area.

Anyone can take credit for the comments in my post. I didn't say which character was teasing Felix. But I figured someone would.

Name: James Richards (Born as Brody Clark)
Age: '24' ( Looks 40)
Height: 5'9
Physical Appearance: 1597025775838.png

( Faceclaim: James Ransone)
Special Abilities/Skills: Due to an encounter with a demon ( Or so he thinks) , he has the ability to rapidly decay objects if he so chooses. However, this comes with a major downside, it's the only way he can feed ( now unable to eat normally). Otherwise, he's a normal human being.... or he likes to think so. Unbeknowest to him, along with rapid decay, rapid life comes with him and he has been accidently bringing things back to life. This is due to the fact that he is actually a necromancer whose power has been corrupted by the minor demon encounter
Occupation: Paranormal Investigator
Bio: Brody lived a pretty boring life when he was young. He had the usual things, a loving mother, caring grandparents and a ton of pets. He was an only child and it can be seen in his interactions, as he has a hard time warming up to people. While he was aware that he could do strange things as a kid, his mother often using logic to explain anything supernatural that Brody think. He lived most of his life in denial.... well, at least until he started high school

In his first year of high school , Brody got involved in some small time paranormal clubs and hung out with the goth kids. One day, one of the kids suggested summoning a demon. He thought they were kidding and went along with it, until he realized that they were serious. Already in too deep, he finished summoning the demon and what happened next.... he doesn't remember. He just knows that when he awoke, he was a 29 year old man, instead of the 13 year kid he had been a few minutes. To make matters slightly worse, all of the other kids .... were dead..... and surrounded by flowers. So Brody did the only logical thing when faced with something strange. He ran. He went home and took the money he saved over the years. He changed his name and tried to live a normal life. He became known as the missing man.

.... It didn't work. So he instead decided to look into the supernatural and when he heard that there was a group that could find demons... well maybe ,just maybe, he could find a way to have his stolen time back.

( He's also Pansexual)

Are therev any rules to making a character?

Sort of, although this will deal heavily with the supernatural, it's a more a down to Earth type supernatural. Think along the lines of the X-Files or movies such as Fallen. Basically all characters should be normal humans. They can have minor abilities attributed to the extraordinary such as mild psychic powers but nothing much beyond that. Definitely no gods, wizards or uber powerful entities. This will be far more horror/conspiracy than anything fantasy related.

Name:Marinah Aamilah

Age:24

Height:5' 10''
Physical Appearance: (No Anime)yasmine-as-raina-abc-phillippe-bosse_vert-5f8d1467221540cf72bbce87f0166a19256e5f9b-s800-c85.jpg

Special Abilities/Skills: Marinah's job as a reporter has given her some extra ability towards deductive reasoning , problem solving and has given her a silver tongue. Also has minor self defense training. As for any supernatural abilities, seems to be being followed by a supernatural entity of unknown origin, though Mariah suspects that it might be a ghost. It can semi- interact with the physical world. Marinah cannot control it and it acts on a whim. While she only has seen it once in her lifetime, she can almost always sense when its near and can hear its voice without much difficulty. Cameras [ both photo and film] and mirrors can vaguely make out its form. Psychics and those affected enough by the supernatural can see it.

Occupation: Freelance Reporter
Bio:
Marinah was raised her uncle in a sleepy town nestled away in the countryside of england. Her Uncle had always had a strong belief towards the unknown and always spoke of it, much to his niece's disbelief

It was only until she reacted the age of fifteen did her eyes open to the prospect of the supernatural did that disbelief shatter

At first it had only been odd glances. Disembodied whispers. Nothing that couldn't be brushed off as something else entirely

But then it had manifested at the end of her bed on night. A tall thing. Human in shape, smoke swirling around its body like a cloak. No face, but instead multiple holes like somebody drilled through a wood plank

Marinah was certain it had spoke to her, but she hardly stayed conscious enough to hear the exact words

Years after the incident, after she had moved out, taken a job, tried to live a normal life. Marinah tried to push the event out of her mind, only to realize a month later that she'd been followed

Not only that, it seems she's been noticing more and more things that don't classify as normal
