Appearance
Thrask is a very dwarf-like dwarf when it comes to physique. His whole body is thick, broad and tough with wide shoulders and a heavily muscled frame. As is the want of dwarfs, his limbs and body is short and stocky while his skin is rough and leathery with a slightly dark pigment to it. Surprisingly his beard is rather short even though it is obvious he is no youngling dwarf. In fact, from the grey in his mane and the lines on his dramatically featured face, one would accurately assume he was a dwarf passing his prime, though indeed he seems no less healthy for the aging. His body is also covered in scars and tattoos, dwarvish lettering peppering his chest and arms in clearly defined horizontal and vertical lines that are marred in some places by huge gashes from wounds long gone.

Greatest Strength - Endurance
Greatest Weakness - Diplomacy

Personality

Loyal//Determined//Trustworthy
If Thrask gives you his trust and friendship then you can expect him to deliver. The problem is knowing when he has because its often hard to tell with him. He seems to have an almost constant scowl on his face and its rare for him to relax around individuals other than his family or close friends. The best way to know he's got your back is if you have his (and you arent involved in anything particularly illegal or mean). Still, even like this, it doesnt mean he'll treat you tenderly or gently. Say someone had you at knifepoint and was screaming something about slitting your throat if he doesnt put his axe down. He'd most likely throw a throwing knife at you himself, somewhere mildly non-lethal, use the surprise factor to decapitate your captor and then slap on some medical salves and drag you back to base. To be honest it takes alot to be Thrask's friend, but at least you know you wont die.

Hard//Tough//Stalwart
Thrask doesnt do backing down or giving up. He deals with the problem at hand and, while he may grumble and mutter about the situation, he'll do it while taking out the problem with a heavy Battleaxe to its face or one precise dagger to its nether regions. He'll endure anything you can think of and more. Beat him, shoot him, throw him off a cliff, but you'll never break him. He has held the record for longest resistance against torture without dying or giving up the intel for five years running amongst his Dwarvish regiment, and he plans to beat it if he's ever stupid enough to get captured a second time.

Fatherly//Caring//Protective
Contrary to the above personality traits, Thrask is in fact a very affectionate and loving individual with much to give in terms of compassion and feeling. He is extremely protective of those he holds dear and will fight you on the street at even the slightest mention of an insult directed at a friend or his Wife. As a Father and Husband, he can be soft-spoken, gentle, affectionate and tactile, a total contradiction to his normal attitude. His smile is warm and so are his hugs and, though a gruff person, he also has some capacity for humour and intelligent conversation. Of course these characteristics are known by very few but his wife and family and his comrades. He has a particular soft spot for children and when encountering a child, no matter the race, he can turn from bloodthirsty warrior to loving father in a matter of seconds.

Chivalrous//Protective//Masculine
Thrask is very easily the picture of knightly chivalry and conduct. His opinions tend towards protection and nurturing, defending those weaker than yourself and upholding the stability and security of the law. This does mean he is generally unconsciously sexist, considering it his duty to defend and protect women over men and treating them, not necessarily as weaker, but perhaps frailer and more precious. His view is that although women might be capable of fighting, it is the duty of men to ensure they do not have to, this is a view most Dwarves seem to share considering the scarcity of females in their race. He has quite stereotypically masculine qualities such as dominance and confidence and a quick and aggressive temper, however he is comfortable in himself and doesn't have quite the need to prove himself as other men seem to possess. He is quite content to appear weak or back down from a fight if the situation calls for it, it does not damage his opinion of himself, although he will fight for his honour and the honour of his friends at a moments notice.

Backstory

Born 2977 in Erebor, son of a father loosely related to Nain III and so to his son, Dain Ironfoot, Thrask was always a rambunctious child with a stoic attitude. He was raised in a very traditional and strict Dwarvish family but he never lacked for love in his youth, both his parents adoring him and his two brothers equally and guiding them well on their paths of life. Thrask's father, Throrn, was a well known and well trusted warrior for his King and he was High in the chain of command, trusted by the King himself and part of the contingent of warriors whom had journeyed back to the Lonely Mountain in answer to Thorin's plea. As a result, Thrask always had a lot to live up to as his father's son, his elder brother Thrank also becoming well accomplished at a young age although he was a full thirty years Thrask's elder. This drove Thrask into a somewhat reckless attitude as a youngster and he cause his mother much worry and concern by hurrying off with scouting parties at only the age of twenty five.

He had a whole seventeen years experience of skirmish-like battles and minor sieges before eventually Erebor itself was attacked with such a force that most thought they would be overwhelmed at the first. The news of the outlying Dwarvish kingdoms being attacked had reached Erebor. However the Easterlings came upon them like a plague of locusts and Dale would have been taken completely unawares if Thrask and a small Dwarvish Scouting party had not spied their advance. As it was, Thrask managed to hurry down to the Town and warn its people, allowing them to prepare but a little in defence. But in the end that only helped to give them a little more time for their retreat, as the enormous numbers of the Easterling ranks obliterated any attempt at repulsion from the first. Thrask found himself retreating alongside Brand and his people, hurrying them up the steps of the mountain to Erebor's door with enemies at their heels all the way. Those that made it into the mountain were safe for now but all knew it would not be for long.

To the consternation of his Mother, even as he returned to her unharmed, he made ready to strike out once more and fight alongside his Father and Brother. Dain and Brand rallied their combined forces quickly and immediately struck out once again to meet the raging tide of battle, endeavouring to push the Easterlings back and let the Dwarves strengthen the doors against breach. The wailing of mothers and children that day would not leave Thrask's thoughts for many years after that. At the time, he was terrified, waiting for the doors to open as he stood in rank and looked to his King for guidance, his hand shook on his Axe and his breath came quickly and fitfully. His brother and father showed no such signs of distress. Dain and Brand seemed to have a cold sense of determination about them, both now battle-hardened old men, their faces held strange expressions. Thrask would later come to recognise this look as one of men ready and eager to face their deaths together.

However, once out beyond the gate, Thrask had no time to feel fear. He hewed his way through countless ranks of men and battled so fiercely that he eventually found himself in the Vanguard. Thorin Stonehelm stood to his left, Dain and Brand to his right and his father and brother somewhere in the melee between. They all fought valiantly and every dwarf warrior that fell seemed to take a hundred enemy soldiers with him. And yet it was not enough. Thrask and the rest saw their slow defeat, watched as their line was pushed steadily back. Turning, Thrask could see the preparations nearly completed, but his hope at them holding the line long enough began to dwindle. It seemed that Brand had noticed as well for with a hearkening battle cry, he rallied what little of his men still stood and drew back briefly before charging into the fray, Dain at his side. Such a terrifying visage was he that the front line of the enemy faultered and he broke through, doing great damage to them and effectively pushing them back a moment long enough for the defences to be complete. A retreat was sounded some way behind but most knew they would not make it back to the gates. Thrask found himself

Fought at only the age of 42 in the battles upon the slopes of Dale. Found himself fighting with Dain and Brand, watched the two great men perish.

Later on laid siege to Gundabad and after a long and protracted war, routed the orcs from that land. Also part of the war for Moria's halls.

Spent most of his Youth taking back the great houses of the Dwarves of old alongside Elder Dwarves whom he owed great alliegance too.

Eventually married well and stopped crusading, returned to Gundabad to raise his family.

Writing sample
[spoili]Thrask awoke that morning with a gentle smile on his face. Honestly he had been waking up smiling for probably the better part of a hundred years by now, though to hear it would shock most. In fact the idea of Thrask smiling in any situation would be shocking to most. [/spoili]

Due to her heritage, Runíla inherited her mother's dark hair; a trait uncommon for light haired Elves often found in Mirkwood. Her hair is long, falling to her waist in thick waves. Runíla adapted to several Elvish traditions, including adorning her hair with braids. She developed a habit of keeping her hair in a fishtail braid; her favorite type. Her alabaster skin contrasts with her dark hair, bringing out her ocean blue eyes. She is fairly tall, standing at a whopping five foot ten. After years of training, Runíla possesses an athletic, willowy physique.

Archery. Despite expanding her combatant skills, Runíla's greatest skill is archery. She practiced several fields involving swordsmanship, daggers, and throwing knives. However, her best option is long range combat, specifically bow. If she was in a dangerous situation, however, Runíla learned how to adapt to close combat, including hand-to-hand. On the other hand, she often tries to distant herself in order to use her bow. Since she is a pureblood Elf, Runíla is immune to diseases.

Etiquette. Despite her mother's efforts, Runíla wasn't fond of social etiquette. She preferred tunics and trousers over silky dresses. She desired to sharpen her archery skills instead of learning how to sew, play the harp, and gardening. She wanted to fight instead of heal. Runíla developed basic skills of etiquette, but she isn't your typical Elleth. Most Elleths view her to be uncouth, uncivilized, and brutish. Despite her evident weakness, Runíla accepted her status. On the other hand, this weakness garnered many conflicts in her life. She isn't the type fitted for negotiations, social parties, and important meetings. Her fierce personality and silver-tongue earned her unfavorable situations. She may be accepted as a warrior, but not a socialite. Other weaknesses include understanding death and befriending mortals.

Runíla was born in Mirkwood, daughter of Ladrengilon and Gilrin. Her mother was originally from Rivendell, hailing from a Noble family. However, she moved to Mirkwood after marrying her father. It was an unexpected decision. Her mother's family disapproved her choice of husband, believing a mere Captain wouldn't suit a Noble Elleth. However, her mother didn't care. She loved her father dearly, willing to break traditions. Runíla was raised in the Forest, living in a home near the river. At an early age, Runíla adored nature. Her mother was a profound healer, often teaching Runíla the basics. However, she wasn't interested in social etiquette. Runíla preferred exploring the outdoors over learning how to be a proper lady. In her youth, Runíla developed a rebellious streak, skipping lessons to practice her archery. Despite her father's responsibilities, he introduced her to the arts of long range combat. He wasn't keen on the thought of involving his only daughter in battles, but she was adamant on learning. Runíla desired to join her father, slaying Orcs and other enemies. Her mother urged her daughter to expand her knowledge of traditions. Regardless of her marriage, Gilrin retained a few Noble qualities, including etiquette. Albeit, she wanted her daughter to choose her own path, Gilrin couldn't deny the benefits if her daughter adapted to Elleth behavior. Unfortunately, her daughter inherited her father's stubborn determination. Runíla learned for her mother's sake, but her skills aren't flawless.

A few centuries later, her mother passed away. During a trip to Rivendell, her mother's group was ambushed by a band of Orcs. A single guard managed to survive long enough to deliver the news to her father. Ladrengilon was devastated. An important mission prevented him from joining her group. He suspected Orc activity around her path, but he couldn't confirm his assumptions. Due to his strong bond with his beloved, Ladrengilon died a month later, suffering from heartbreak. Her hatred towards Orcs festered into a bitter vendetta. Runíla was determined ridding Middle Earth from vile creatures bent on destruction. She dedicated her life to training, increasing her experience. Runíla learned healing from her mother, but her skills were limited. Her mother wanted to teach her more before she died, but Runíla wasn't interested in becoming a healer. She wanted to be a warrior. Most guards contained Elves, not Elleths. A few had the audacity of viewing Elleths as dainty, defenseless souls. Runíla desired to prove them wrong. Twenty years ago, Runíla accomplished her goal; becoming a Captain of the Elven Guards.

page_divider_by_lithiumharddrive.png

It was early in the morning, an hour after sunrise. A young Elleth was sharpening her sword, swiping the whetstone with practiced scrapes. She was sitting on an old stump outside her home. Woodland Elves often preferred homes built carefully in the trees, but Runíla was different. After her father died, Runíla relocated. She couldn't linger in a home filled with painful memories. Her new residence consisted of a cozy cottage near the river. Runíla was proud to declare she built it herself, with the aid of a few close friends. It was above the ground, but lower than normal. She picked a mighty tree to support her home. Runíla continued sharpening her blade, losing herself in her thoughts. She wasn't scheduled for patrol until tomorrow. She intended to spend the day sharpening her weapons and practicing her archery. She wasn't the type that lazed around and explored the Forest. Runíla spent her free time doing something productive. Suddenly, a messenger boy approached her, holding a letter. A small frown marred her lips. She hasn't received mail for nearly a week. Who was the source?

"Agoreg vae Thalion," Runíla praised. The young Elfling barely passed one hundred. He was young and inexperienced. He was assigned to deliver messages to her by her superior. She acknowledged his efforts. He was a shy Elf, but full of potential.

"La fael," he answered softly. Thalion bowed to her respectively before leaving.

Runíla inspected the scroll. It looked ordinary, nothing too peculiar. She opened it and viewed the contents. Her eyes widened slightly. Her expression filled with bewilderment. Was this a joke? Runíla analyzed the letter thoroughly. Her frown deepened. Gandalf the White didn't seem the type to jest about important quests. She never met him personally, but she heard stories. Runíla often respected the tales involving Legolas Greenleaf, a profound Elf from Mirkwood. Songs were created in his honor, including stories depicting his heroic deeds. Runíla was born in a generation long after Legolas left for Valenor. She admired his humbleness. Her father had the opportunity of meeting him. She enjoyed hearing tales when she was a young Elfling.

"What should I do?" Runíla mused, slipping into common tongue.

She contemplated for a solid hour. In the end, Runíla accepted the quest. Her instincts told her she would be needed. Runíla composed a letter to her superior, informing him of her awaited absence. She enclosed the scroll with her letter, providing evidence.

【OOC: I nabbed a few phrases from an Elvish converter site. I'm not positive if they're accurate.】
【Elvish Translation(s): #1: "You did well Thalion." ; #2: "Thank You."】

@Erranruin, accepted when you finish the CS.

@Domotoro, yes we are still accepting, although there are no more female spots left. :(

Out of curiousity, are we going to start the rp once all slots are filled?

Hopefully, we will have a full roster when we start. Let's take a vote. I want to wait until the rest of the week is up (so until Saturday night) for people to join, and if not all of the slots are filled, we can fill them as we progress with NPC's. I know @Phi Chisym has Elric, and I may ask for more to be made if the spots aren't filled.

So, thoughts on waiting till the end of the week?

Sounds like a plan, Im almost done fixing the typos and redundancies on my character sheet.

I'm good with that. I'll finish up my little template for Elric then and post it with my first.

Okay, so tomorrow I leave for a three day drive. I will be getting home around Saturday evening, and won't have internet where I'm staying. But I do have access to the library, so I will be on at least an hour a day or so. So I will try and post in IC (if you get it up) by Monday, sound cool?

Ok! So we wait till Saturday and then I will post the link to the IC thread. @Phi Chisym, that's cool. Just let me know when you have the sheet up. And @Bitterblue, that's fine. Have fun on your drive! :)

In the event that there are still spots to fill even with Elric, we will need more NPC's. If it has to come to that, anyone else want to volunteer to make an additional male character now so we have NPC's if needed? Note that any and all NPC's will be replaced by actual characters if someone joins in.

I'd be ok to make another dwarf NPC so we can get the dwarf count up XD

I imagine we wont have to make a very detailed bio or anything

@Erranruin, you're right. Don't make a very detailed bio. Just name, age, race, and dialogue color will be fine for NPC's. Of course you can do more, but they won't be played for too long anyway. This applies to anyone else making an NPC as well.

Also, we don't need any more NPC spots filled. :)

yay! So... no NPC's at all then? o.o

No, we will still use the NPC's, but they are only temporary until all the spots are filled. We may not even need to use them at all, as we only have 1 spot left to fill by Saturday.

Awesomesauce! Hmm... I wonder if I can tempt one of my friends into this rp
