The Legend of the Grimiores RP

In the chaos of the shadow creatures' attack it had become near impossible to hear anything over the screams of terrified victims and varied objects breaking into pieces. In a quieter place one may have heard magical energy being drawn in around a well-dressed Victorian man's scepter before being fired at high-speed as an azure bolt into a shadow creature's chest. As the beast dissolved into motes of darkness the man held up a black book bearing an ornate silver rune, that at once seemed to glow yet cast no light, and flipped open its black pages. Immediately the darkness was drawn into the book and the man snapped it shut, causing the rune on the cover to intensify in its strange glow before fading to its previous intensity. The man fired several more azure bolts at a group of three that charged him one at a time, then absorbed them into his book as he had the first.

"Bertram!" the man called to the sky. Moments later a raven's cawing could be heard, and the man looked to see the raven circling some ways away. He ran to the raven's location, seeing an elvish man use plant-based magicks to destroy several shadows. From the looks of things, he was having trouble with the remaining ones. "Ho there!" he called out, "need a hand?" He opened his book and waved his scepter as a tightly packed group of six shadows. As more than a dozen blades as black as the void struck from the shadows of the ground and destroyed the shadow creatures, the only noise to be heard was the sound of air being cut and the distorted sound the creatures made in death.

Kyy nods. "Good point." He turns around and stabs one in the head. Shion draws her bow and fires three arrows at once, hitting three different shadows. Kyy starts spinning his spear and runs clear through three more.

Adaire Epitaph was not certain what was going on, all that she knew was that she was under attack. Beasts of nothing but darkness began to materialize in front of her and run at her. There were about twelve of them and she knew she was greatly outmatched. So, she did the smart thing; she ran. Being of such a young age for an elf she was slower than others and knew that eventually the dark figures would catch her, but still she ran on. Ahead of her was the door to a peculiar shaped building and, seeing no other options, Adaire ran into the building. She slammed the door behind her and bolted it. A pounding came from the other side and she instantly knew that the door would not hold. Without any windows Adaire did not have the option of picking them off and she had a peculiar feeling that her weapons wouldn't hurt them anyways.

Adaire waited in the hut for nearly ten minutes before the beasts broke down the door. By then, Adaire had hidden in a room that appeared to be a very small, very personal library. As she awaited her eminent doom Adaire let her eyes wander over the room that would be her final resting place. Nothing on any of the shelves interested her and of course the desk would have nothing of interest on it. Adaire was going to die in a boring hut with nothing even remotely exciting around. As soon as she thought this drab thought something caught her eye. It was a large black book that seemed in no way special, but the ornate symbol on the front seemed so familiar and comforting that all she wanted to do was touch it, and touch it she did. Suddenly there was a flare in the light and Epitaphs vision increased. This beautiful book brought her comfort and warmth, so she gripped it to her chest and sat herself in the darkest corner of the study.

When the dark creatures came into the room they searched high and low, but it seemed like they couldn't even see her. It was almost as though Adaire had become one with the shadows and they just looked right through her. After searching for an extended period of time and not finding her, the dark creatures left. Adaire pulled herself out of the shadows and made a break for it, tripping over her own cloak. As Adaire ran from the darkness she saw a group of people fighting it and ran towards them, still gripping the book that kept her so calm and soothed. Just before she reach the group she felt something grab her hair and pull her backwards. Adaire let out an ear piercing scream and drew her sword to face the attacker.

Kyy hears the scream and looks at the other two. "Sorry, gatta go!" He runs over and and cuts the 'hand' off of the beast holding Epitaph's hair. "Want some help?"

Epitaph smiled gratefully and held her sword aloft, pointing it at the creature. "Sure could, thank you." The sword was hard to hold one handed and so she slipped the beautiful book into her cloak pocket and placed her other hand on the sword, taking a fighting stance. "Where do I aim to kill them? I shot one through the stomach earlier and it didn't even faze it. Is there a special place to aim?"

Kyy nods. "Basically, anything that would normally mean death for mortals, like the head or 'heart'. Not that I know if they have one but in that general area I mean."

OOC: Btw Epitaph, I messed up. Darkness was taken. The rper who had darkness had said someone changed to distortion and I misread, thinking it was him. Sorry.

Elilidh tore open the chest on the floor in her small home. She pulled out a cloak and reached for the sword that had belonged to her father. It caught the light strangely, forcing her to squint as it shone brighter. With her eyes half closed, she went to grab hold of the hilt and felt the sturdy shape of...she pulled whatever it was towards her. A book. She knew the house and everything in it, and this did not belong.

Before she could set the book down, a terrible sound of cracking beams shocked Elilidh to her feet. A shadow beast was forcing its way in through the heavy door. Without a second thought, she scrabbled out the window. She landed with a roll. What she saw next made her throw her hands over her face. A horde of shadow beasts looked down at her. Light flared.

Slowly, she opened her eyes. Nothing had tried to kill her. Instead, the creatures were gone. The book in her hand glowed slightly as she gazed around in wonder.

Chaos fell around Aki as new people arrived to help ward off the on coming hoards of Shadow. Aki wasn't very happy that there were more people now- Aki didn't like the company of more than one stranger. Still, not worth complaining about help to kill the Shadow. "Shadow don't react to normal weapons much either- you need to attack with magic," Aki added to Kyy's explanation. After that Aki drew his ebony sword, bored of fighting with out it.

Shion launches a few arrows upward so they fall back, peircing the heads of four more. Kyy stabs his spear into the ground and unsheathes his blades as he passes the last few. Moments later they fall, cut in half. He resheathes them and picks up his spear.

Shion walks over to Aki as Kyy walks over as well. All of a sudden Shion falls to her knees, blood dripping from her mouth.

Nariel had been sitting on the edge of the capital's well for quite a while now. Time seemed to pass a bit slower than usual around her.... An interesting looking scythe was granted a place besides her, the sharp edge of the blade reflecting the light in many ways. As time passed more and more screams seemed to fill the air between the buildings, it made her wonder yet she didn't seem to bother it at all. Until her head was lifted and she casually took the scythe in her hand. Shadows had seemed to gather a few yards away from her and at an alarming rate more and more seemed to melt together into one being. The moment she had hopped up form her resting place time was ticking normally again. With a few skips she slashed towards the creature. "Tick tack... Shadow's aren't supposed to move y'know unless the sun makes 'em move.... Like clouds.... " While talking she had tilted her head back a little, her stomach immediately greeted by a sharp pain. Her guard had dropped and she had left herself wide open for an attack of the creature. Nari yelped, her scythe coming down and slicing off the arm of the being. Her left arm was pressing hard against her stomach, her sleeve immediately drenched in blood. Day-dreaming wasn't smart at times like this, and the small being that had attacked her now got some backup from several larger shadows. Her body turned and she took off in a sprint, a suppressed scream rising up from her throat and splitting through the air and mixing with the other ones.

When she saw a small group of shadows and more humane beings she ran towards them, a sudden stinging pain of her stomach tripping her and making her fall hard to the ground. To catch her fall she had released her scythe, the creatures taking the advantage of the moment to step on it and raise a massive claw out of shadows.
"No!!! " The claw came down and to protect herself she raised her arms, screaming they had to stop and like that, they did. First the claw went slower until the long nails trapped her, yet giving her enough time to scramble away so only her leg was stepped on. Then the creatures froze in place, just like that. With big eyes she stared and started to scream again, in blind panic banging her fist repeatedly against the arm of the creature, not getting a single response in return.

A gruff voice sighed as the capital was overwhelmed by The Shadow. Samesh was hoping to find peace here, but it seemed that misfortune had bound itself to him, all the while wreaking havoc on the whatever path he traveled. This time, the monk seemed to bring an even greater terror than he could have imagined: beastly beings of the darkness that usually stayed rooted at the feet of mortals, now tangible as a force to be reckoned within. A nightmare come true.

The mid-aged man stood slowly with a deep breath, blooming from his original meditative state, in order to peer out the window. Many individuals where slain just there on the other side of the wall, and while some gave a fight for their lives, others just didn't seem to have a chance. Ebony claws created streams of scarlet, which streaked across the glass pane. With a wince the monk began to plan an escape, he was no coward, but he recognized an un-winnable fight when he saw one. He shot for the only exit in the entire house only to be stopped, of course, by a monster that was dark as the night itself.

SLAM!

Well that wasn't happening - he rotated 360 towards the back again, eyes bouncing around in their sockets as they searched for alternative routes. A very long second later: his legs finally started up again as he charged for the blood smeared window. Light glimmered around him as the glass turned to glitter in the new exit. With a umph and a plop on the ground the monk was free! "Now What?" Samesh wondered. There wasn't much else to do besides run at this point, but he sincerely wanted to aid somehow...

At that very moment arrows could be seen a sprint away, along with flashes of arcane energy. Whatever it was, it seemed to be the only place where The Shadow seemed hesitant to strike, so that's where adventure called him. He couldn't just take the easiest, and most direct path though - that was suicide! Luckily, the houses where near each other in an oblong circle around the horde - a blessing if there ever was one. So began the trek towards either new allies or even more hell to face.

Aki heard the sudden screaming, and turned to see it was coming from a nearby girl. Aki ran over to her, seeing that she was being attacked by those damn shadows. "GET AWAY FROM HER!"Aki screeched, as launched a hurricane of prickly leaves towards the shadows. Then, to clear up any remaining mess, he hacked at the monsters with his shining ebony sword. The sword was now glowing a deep green, but dripping with scarlet red.

Epitaph quickly ran to the aid of Shion. She hacked and slashed at the horrific monsters around her, killing them off quickly.

"Cover me!" She shouted as she lowered Shion to the ground and stemmed the blood with a cloth ripped from her own shirt.

"Does your wound go all the way through?" She questioned quickly.

Shion smiles a little. "Don't worry... It's not from them..." She throws a knife, killing a shadow about to hit Epitaph from behind.

OOC: Btw just wondering, anybody already figure out why she was bleeding? There's a hint in the rp description lol

Grass rustled and dead leaves crunched as Samesh creeped around the horde of Shadow hounds in the center of the central. The beasts seemed far more numerous only moments ago, but their numbers had been dwindling ever since the monk had seen arrows fly over yonder. Now just a few packs remained, but Samesh was in no mood to test his luck in a fight against a force he had no knowledge of. He skulked further, between houses and trees, avoiding any sight - whether friendly or otherwise. Cautiously, he slipped into an empty building which appeared to be a now ruined library.

With a slight stumble and a slip he made it in, only after pushing passed the half-assed barricade made of shelves against the doorway. The poor fools were probably consumed whole while locked in a cage of their own making, lambs to the slaughter. He gave a quick prayer for them, and the people of the town in general before walking further in. He was hoping to get a higher point of view somehow to get a better idea of what was around him, and proceed with a better understanding of the layout, and of course the position of The Shadow. This building was two stories high, so he should only have to get to the second floor. The moment the thought came to mind the door seemed to reveal itself - just at the back of the room, behind yet another shelf barricade, stood the answer.

Samesh rushed to the guarded entree-way and was ready to push the shelf over just as easily as the first... but something was different this time. His muscles strained and tensed up, veins rising to the surface and all, in attempt to remove this object - but to absolutely no success. He tried again, this time with his legs, knowing that his hands where near useless anyway "that must be the problem" he thought as he tried for round number two. He positioned himself between the object and a wall, pushing with a leg while standing on the other... still nothing. His other foot lifted itself as he began to hover now, doing a better job of pushing himself into the wall than moving the shelf any.

"well..." he spoke solemnly

It was quite intriguing actually, this immovable object, with nothing spectacular about it (or that he knew of anyway). It boggled his mind how a nearly hollow frame with nothing but simple books could be so heavy, perhaps he was just reaching that useless age. At this point Samesh felt this was more effort than he thought the entire situation was worth, but never one to give up, he actually began emptying the stupid shelf of it's codices and other various texts. Scoop by scoop the hard-backs fell, none of them being particularly heavy or even bulky enough to even seem like a struggle to handle... that is, until his weak digits came across a special tome. A tome with a very interesting, and ancient looking title, with a decorative amulet on the front cover - silver in color with an engraved shape of some sort in it.

"what could this be?" he thought for a second, but then wavered off the notion of sitting here reading while people where slaughtered outside. Just another dusty book to push off. His hand closed in, at first swiping with a cuffed hand, only to be turned flat against the surface as a effortless swing turned into an agonizing push. This was just unreal, the book simply couldn't be moved, it weighed a ton!... yet the shelf held it up. He touched the runic surface on the front once more in interest, when suddenly it began to glow.

The Shadow growled outside as if they were closing in on him, and quite frankly Samesh found it ironic that his effort to get upstairs and avoid them had done nothing but make it easier to track him somehow! He chuckled with a grimness about the tone, before staring at the glowing book again. It was now opening... and hovering as if light as a feather. Ancient symbols began to fly around the clueless monk, and strange arcane energy shocked his body with an unknown strength and knowledge - he felt compelledd to snatch it.

Without hesitation, he did just as his gut told him to: he reached for the hovering tome, and immediately after his palm touched the leather surface he kicked over the shelf that had seem so impossible to coax out of it's position before, and ran up the stairs. The Shadow followed from above, on the roof, covering all exits, from roof top to every window on the building.

"well..." a similar phrase found itself crossing his lips again.

With big eyes Nari had watched how someone just threw himself at the monsters. Yet somehow they still didn't move. Almost like they were frozen in time.... It freaked her out completely and she scrambled back as soon as the weight was lifted from her leg. She shivered, snatching her scythe from the ground and looking at the person who saved her just now. "T-thank you. "She mumbled to the male, bowing her head slightly and holding her scythe maybe a bit too tight. What the hell was happening? Well, that was Nari for you, waiting to run until the last moment and swinging her weapon without thinking. "Are there more people who need help, and what the hell happened just now? "

"Are you fit to stand? We should get you moved out of this battle zone." Epitaph said sympathetically.

Epitaph was slightly worried about the small girl she was holding up. It seemed like she was used to this kind of thing and that worried her even more.

Jusqua followed the elvish man to a group of women who had also been fighting the shadows one of whom seemed to be injured. He cast a few more Azure Bolts into a group of oncoming shadows and knelt down besides the seemingly injured woman. "Are you hurt? I know some healing spells if that would be of assistance." He checked to be sure there weren't any shadows coming for them at the moment. He figured the elf man would be able to keep them away for now.

Painful glares came from every opening of the library, all directed towards Samesh as he stood still in the second story corridor. He faced his enemy, their head handing upside down outside the window, they were daunting creatures for sure, but this monk would have no choice soon. His free hand reached up to his temples in aggravation and conception of some ghastly plan to escape his fate. "Hmm?.." the book began to glow once again, this time lifting everything around him instead! Shelves and texts found themselves capable of flight, along with window blinds, pens, and all other manner of objects - meanwhile Samesh stayed firmly planted on the ground, noticing that... The Shadow were no longer staring him down from outside the glass pane.

Now he was curious. He lifted what could very well be his new exit and scanned the area... nothing. Still, that growling noise persisted. His head turned skyward, and sure enough there they were, helplessly spinning around in the air - some even bouncing off of each other with no control over the direction they hovered. A sly grin came across the monks face as he hopped out, now knowing which direction to continue, he surely didn't want to test how long the anti-gravity effect worked though, so he made good time dashing passed three other buildings, closing in on the area where arrows had flown.

"Are you hurt? I know some healing spells if that would be of assistance." - the voice found it's way to Samesh's ear, just before the body it belonged to came into view.

"Yes, and it's long story," Aki replied to the girl on the ground, "so, what's your name?" Aki offered her a hand up, while his other hand gripped his bloodied sword. He even tried to smile at her, ignoring the sweat and pain on his face.
