Location of Lavaeudeen
The Waverly Hills Sanitarium in Kentucky was built in 1910 and expanded to the enormous abandoned hulk it is today in 1924, Waverly Hills Sanitarium was opened to house tuberculosis patients as an isolation hospital. Doctors at the hospital carried out painful experimental surgeries to treat the disease, often with bloody results. One surgery of last resort involved opening the chest cavity to insert balloons into the lungs and another involved removing ribs to allow the lungs to expand. As many as 64,000 people who were admitted to the hospital died there over the years, and at least one employee is reputed to have hung herself in the laundry room on the fourth floor in the 1930s. Those who passed away at Waverly Hills were moved through the morgue and out of the hospital through the body chute that led cadavers out the back out of sight of the patients. Most of the hospital, including the morgue and body chute, remain intact today.
Or so the muggles think.
The building was, in fact, at one time a Sanitarium. However, it came into the possession of wizarding kind shortly after it was abandoned and was quickly renovated to be a school for the wizarding youth of America.

Those that do come around see a very decrypted old building, and a affected by a muggle repealing charm that causes them to want to leave quickly. That combined with a mind altering ward makes those who came looking believe that they poked around for awhile and found just enough to satisfy their curiosity. It makes the area rather popular and often the target of ghost hunters who leave thinking they've just caught something amazing on film. It's a rather elaborate ruse.
Behind the Name of the School
As a tribute to America's very own famous voodoo queen and her desire to pass on magic the school was named for Marie Lavaeu
About the School
Lavaeudeen is one of the newest American Wizarding academies, and the spiritual successor to Hogwarts. When a Hogwarts professor, Sycamore Whitburn, moved to the Americas and began working at other schools. He found himself missing the Hogwarts feel and decided if he couldn't have it, he'd make it. He went to a friend of his that owned a large piece of land, with a prebuilt building on it. His friend, Thaddeus Wolfthorn, agree'd on the condition that Sycamore would allow him to help in this monumental project. Sycamore was over joyed at not only acquiring the building, but an ally as well.
The next step, they both decided, was to get the permits that allowed them the not only place the charms need to keep the muggles out, but to start a school and start a magical renovation project so large. Nether man had very many ties to the Amarican Wizarding Government, or their areas school board. Thaddeus, however, had a sister by the name of Eliana Foxcrest who had a husband that was big into politics and had quite a few ties. He got in contact with her and asked if she'd be willing to see if she'd get her husband onboard. All he revved was an uncertain promise that she'd at least try. Three weeks later they got an owl from Nathaniel Foxcrest, Eliana's husband, saying he had the permits ready and that they could have them once they promised to let him into the project as well. Foxcrest claimed it would be a grand business venture. The project partners saw no reason to exclude Foxcrest, as he could be a valuable asset to the project.
Once everything was in places legally it was just a matter of starting to renovate the building and hiring the staff. Nathaniel quickly took charge of finding staff, promising to make a good roster of professors while Sycamore and Thaddeus worked on the building. They put together the building easily but found they weren't great at warding, they needed someone to put the charms and wards in places to keep people steered away from the school. By then the word of this new school had made rounds around the Wizarding community, and help came forward on it's own. A young talented Warder by the names of Amira Hawkridge offered to do it for them, free of charge. They would have been stupid to turn her away.
After that the school shot up almost over night, everything was in place. The staff, The building, The classes, The permits. The only thing left was Houses and how to to sort them. The current Divinations professor, a tiny woman known by the name of Gwendolyn Bearglove, came forward with the solution. A modified crystal orb that would glow the house color that the student possessed the traits most similar too. It was all a matter of making the houses and deciding their traits. Sycamore decided the houses would be named after the four who had been the most helpful in the creation of Leavaudeen.

The school after it's first rather bumpy year turned out to be a success in 1974. Enough time has passed where none of the original staff is still on staff and the school has made a name for itself already.

Those of the Wolfthorn house value Teamwork and Selflessness over any of the other houses. Like the wolf members of this house learn to attack problems as a singular unit towards a common goal. Each member works to understand each other equally and play to each other's strengths. In order to do so each house member must remember to serve each other and not themselves, selflessness in teamwork to keep others at the forefront of their mind is the basic key element to any collective strategy. Alone they may be easy to take on, but together they are unstoppable.

The house ghost of Wolfthorn is a Hopi woman in her late teens, who was once the highly revered medicine woman of her village. When the soldiers from the east came in, being both Native American and a practitioner of 'black magic' as the soldier called it, she was the first to die in her village. She was subjected to a number of gruesome acts before her execution, and wears a haunted expression because of it. She never speaks of what exactly was done to her. Now she roams the halls, patiently assisting the members of her house in herbology as it was always a love of her people to be in touch with nature to heal those around her.

Like the hawk members of this house are patient and intelligent, always waiting for an opportunity to prove their intelligence with their brilliant plans and tactics. Like the hawk this house is sharp and quick with their wit. However, you will never have to guess what these house members are thinking as they will let you know, their quick to share their thoughts and ideas. They believe that honesty and intelligence go hand in hand since evidence and truth go hand in hand. The members of this house are very black and white and treat justice with openness. Lying and false information will get you on this house's bad side quickly. Bending of the truth, however, can be substitute lying for some of these cunning birds.

Once a proud Mestizo man in the Mexican Army, he now spends his days confidently recalling the events leading up to his death. Never failing to include each and every individual detail up until the moment of his death. He is proud that he fought for Mexico and for the land of his ancestors against white invaders. When talked to he will talk about Mexico as his proud homeland with nothing but glory and love for his home. Anytime a student has their history incorrect or twisted with the glorification of 'settlers' he will quickly and sternly correct them on who the invaders were, and who's land belonged to who. He will not tolerate lies and false information of the accounts of his people and the basis for the fighting of his territory. He's not unkind about this, however, willing to patiently teach them so the same mistake is not made again. However if asked about his military days he will more than likely start rattling off from childhood of admiring his strong father to his days as a soldier. He also enjoys teaching those who are interested in his culture and tries to get as many students interested in Dia de les Muertos.

Loyalty, Cunning, Resourcefulness
A cunning trickster, this is what most think of when they hear of the fox, and their not wrong. However, what you might not think of, is loyalty. A fox has one mate for their entire life and remains loyal every season even though they are apart. Like the fox, members of this house pride themselves on the loyalty to their friends and family. Willing to go to any and all lengths to protect their loved ones and ensure their happiness; Members of this house are also cunning and resourceful, they will find and use as many ways as they can, no matter how shady, to keep their head above the water along with their loved ones. They believe no one can look after their significants quite like they can. A Foxcrest will do all that they can to succeed in the name of their loved ones, and in their honor.

One-Eyed Jacqueline Thibodeaux.
Once a proud voodoo queen in Louisiana, this woman lived with pride and loyalty to her home of Zimbabwe. After being forcibly removed from her lands, brought to Haiti, and then to Mississippi as a slave. She used not only her skill in voodoo magic to escape, but her loyalty with the other slaves on her plantation. To escape the cruelty of the plantation, her and many other slaves fled on the underground railroad. Using both her magic and cunning she was able to escape with her friends and what remained of her family from the horrors of plantation life to Louisiana where she made a name for herself with her voodoo. Becoming a highly regarded voodoo queen she then helped those with an inclination to magic to help free her brothers and sisters trapped on plantations and then giving them refugee in her home.
Soon though, news of her operation spread, and many wanted her dead. Using her divination skills she found out about a plot to kill her and the escaped slaves. She was also made aware of that fact that she could only save herself and not the newly freed men and women, or save them and pay the ultimate price. She made the quick choice to save them over herself, and stood her ground where she fought tooth and nail with her magic to ensure the survival of her brothers and sisters. She, however, lost the fight when a white man pulled a gun and ultimate shot her in the eye by sheer dumb luck.
She is both a gentle, and helpful ghost. The students, should they ever need her help, need only to ask. She always seems to know when some one needs her help and appears to them before they have to go and find her. The trick is letting go of your pride and asking. She is quiet talkative with the students of her house and ensures that students are well aware of the dishonor and torture she went through in the Americas. Wether this is to validate her own suffering or to try and insure such horrors are avoid in the future, is unclear.

Last, but certainly not least, is the home of the bears. These curious Bears are not naturally aggressive creatures, but, however, have a hierarchy amongst their ranks. Just like the bear, members of this house are known for their fighting skills and bravery, and are not afraid to display these characteristics. Members of this house exhibit leadership characteristics and always fight for the top of the chain in any event or subject they're in. Their competitive drive can sometimes lead to hotheadedness and aggressive outbursts with the other students giving them their bear qualities. Loud, boisterous, and certainly commanding students of Bearglove do not have a hard time making a name for themselves in someway shape or form.

'Doc' Thomas Benton
Among the house ghosts he is the most resented, due to his megalomaniac attitude and his past as a serial killer. While in medical school in the 1920's he sought any and all information to eternal youth as the drive to be the best in his field and to never die to pass on his superior knowledge. No one knows the true nature of his evil some say it was trauma others say it lied in wait. If you ask the other house ghost they will tell you that he was evil from the start and to his very core.
While he was alive, he, under strange circumstances, became a hermit, and soon dead animals were found on his land with strange markings carved into them. Soon after the farmer's daughter went missing in his town; naturally they went looking for him. When townspeople found him he had carved strange markings on her and was mumbling in an incoherent language before tossing her off a cliff. Every time he's asked about his death he gives a new story each time, about the scars on his face. The other ghosts say it was one of his evil experiments done onto himself after the town found him killing the farmer's daughter, in an attempt to save his own life from impending hanging he was to face.

However if asked about his military days he will more than likely start rattling off from childhood of admiring his strong father to his days as a soldier. He also enjoys teaching those who are interested in his culture and tries to get as many students interested in Dia de les Muertos.

Loyalty, Cunning, Resourcefulness
A cunning trickster, this is what most think of when they hear of the fox, and their not wrong. However, what you might not think of, is loyalty. A fox has one mate for their entire life and remains loyal every season even though they are apart. Like the fox, members of this house pride themselves on the loyalty to their friends and family. Willing to go to any and all lengths to protect their loved ones and ensure their happiness; Members of this house are also cunning and resourceful, they will find and use as many ways as they can, no matter how shady, to keep their head above the water along with their loved ones. They believe no one can look after their significants quite like they can. A Foxcrest will do all that they can to succeed in the name of their loved ones, and in their honor.

One-Eyed Jacqueline Thibodeaux.
Once a proud voodoo queen in Louisiana, this woman lived with pride and loyalty to her home of Zimbabwe. After being forcibly removed from her lands, brought to Haiti, and then to Mississippi as a slave. She used not only her skill in voodoo magic to escape, but her loyalty with the other slaves on her plantation. To escape the cruelty of the plantation, her and many other slaves fled on the underground railroad. Using both her magic and cunning she was able to escape with her friends and what remained of her family from the horrors of plantation life to Louisiana where she made a name for herself with her voodoo. Becoming a highly regarded voodoo queen she then helped those with an inclination to magic to help free her brothers and sisters trapped on plantations and then giving them refugee in her home.
Soon though, news of her operation spread, and many wanted her dead. Using her divination skills she found out about a plot to kill her and the escaped slaves. She was also made aware of that fact that she could only save herself and not the newly freed men and women, or save them and pay the ultimate price. She made the quick choice to save them over herself, and stood her ground where she fought tooth and nail with her magic to ensure the survival of her brothers and sisters. She, however, lost the fight when a white man pulled a gun and ultimate shot her in the eye by sheer dumb luck.
She is both a gentle, and helpful ghost. The students, should they ever need her help, need only to ask. She always seems to know when some one needs her help and appears to them before they have to go and find her. The trick is letting go of your pride and asking. She is quiet talkative with the students of her house and ensures that students are well aware of the dishonor and torture she went through in the Americas. Wether this is to validate her own suffering or to try and insure such horrors are avoid in the future, is unclear.

Last, but certainly not least, is the home of the bears. These curious Bears are not naturally aggressive creatures, but, however, have a hierarchy amongst their ranks. Just like the bear, members of this house are known for their fighting skills and bravery, and are not afraid to display these characteristics. Members of this house exhibit leadership characteristics and always fight for the top of the chain in any event or subject they're in. Their competitive drive can sometimes lead to hotheadedness and aggressive outbursts with the other students giving them their bear qualities. Loud, boisterous, and certainly commanding students of Bearglove do not have a hard time making a name for themselves in someway shape or form.

'Doc' Thomas Benton
Among the house ghosts he is the most resented, due to his megalomaniac attitude and his past as a serial killer. While in medical school in the 1920's he sought any and all information to eternal youth as the drive to be the best in his field and to never die to pass on his superior knowledge. No one knows the true nature of his evil some say it was trauma others say it lied in wait. If you ask the other house ghost they will tell you that he was evil from the start and to his very core.
While he was alive, he, under strange circumstances, became a hermit, and soon dead animals were found on his land with strange markings carved into them. Soon after the farmer's daughter went missing in his town; naturally they went looking for him. When townspeople found him he had carved strange markings on her and was mumbling in an incoherent language before tossing her off a cliff. Every time he's asked about his death he gives a new story each time, about the scars on his face. The other ghosts say it was one of his evil experiments done onto himself after the town found him killing the farmer's daughter, in an attempt to save his own life from impending hanging he was to face.

- Follow the basic rules of the Iwakurolwplay forms
- Please post at least a paragraph (i understand if this isn't always possible but lets try to do better then one or two sentence responses.)
- Don't be afraid to make suggestions for the RP description or have discussions here about the direction the plot is taking. Go wild.
- The world is left pretty open ended lore wise, i want us to work together to decided how America's wizarding culture is.
- To prove you read the rules put your favorite of Lavaeudeen house ghost in brackets at the bottom of your character skeleton.
- Keep things believable! No Vampire/Werewolf/Elephant hybrids or overly accomplished Necromancer first years. If you get to out of hand i'll let you know.
- NOT EVERYONE CAN BE TOP THREE OF THE CLASS, ONLY THREE CAN. I see this happen a lot in school rp's. Just bare that in mind when creating characters.
- You are allowed to have two characters to begin with. You can make your own student or use one of the pre-made staff members(You'll have to give them their own personality i'm afraid.)
- If you show you are good at juggling them both and would like another you just have to ask. You can ask until you have four characters but thats where i draw the line. (Unless we have discussed otherwise.)
- I can add and change rules when the need arises or i think of something.
