Opening Letter
Hello! Whether you are here to stay as one of our interested players, or simply passing by, I welcome you to The Invictus Saga. The Invictus Saga has been a roleplay that has been a awful brainchild of myself @Dakota K5 and @Nue for the past two weeks (procrastination included!) While you might find this to be a meager looking post, I hope you do take the time to read into the story we have to offer!

Rules and Regulations
So you have developed interest in our attempt at a group roleplay, we would be greatly excited to have you! Before you dive into our universe how ever please understand these VERY few rules that are in place to keep this roleplay relatively stable.



  1. While a no-brainer, Iwaku rules and policies apply here too. Please review them and be aware of them!
  2. Your current designated GMs of this RP are @Furasian @Nue @Dakota K5 , by default they have the final say in the matter.
  3. Post activity: Weekly. Understand us GMs are dedicating ALOT of time and effort to maintain this roleplay, we dont ask for a RP post every day, but please help us maintain a healthy posting schedule to keep the roleplay interesting.
  4. Post Length and expectations: No one liners, no primarily first person posts. (i.e: I look up at the captain and nod. "What are you wanting us to do?") This post is too short, and its in first person. Lets try to maintain a sense of uniformity in that regard. You dont need fancy tables or heavy codes, I for one am terrible at them. On that note: Quality over Quantity! Even with rule 3 in effect we also understand people need time to get in the mood, and writers block does happen. Do hesitate to get with us so we can figure out a solution whether it be extending your timelimit or even sitting down to help you write a post. We are in this together as a group!
  5. Be respectful OOCily, PLEASE. We understand in-character rivalries and what have you, but try to be respectful. That doesn't mean we are banning banter, but outright disrespect will not find a place in the OOC.
  6. Character Romance: I don't think I have to say it but this is not a redstar RP. Characters may have romantic relationships, but on that note if it is 18+ content fade to black and make sure you are in compliance with Iwaku Rules here too.

April Mangal stands at 170 centimeters. She has a muscular, stocky build. She has short black hair and dark eyes. Both of her eyes are cybernetic, and she has some scarring around them. Parts of her left arm are also cybernetic. Her right arm is tattooed with flowers.



MENTAL EVALUATION:

April is honest, sometimes brutally so. She has a mental filter and is not intentionally cruel, but does not realize the things she says are hurtful, unless it is pointed out to her. She is generally friendly to most people, though she is without sympathy in action. She is more impulsive, and can be stubborn if someone is trying to talk her out of something. She has a good memory and is considered responsible. She tries to find positive qualities in most people, and will listen to most people's side of the story, though she may not understand the nuance of the situation. She represses negative emotion and will often act upbeat even if disturbed.



MAIN ASSIGNMENT:

Due to her background in mechanics, April was brought on as an engineer.



BACKGROUND:

April is the only child of a former pilot and a woman who died a few weeks after she was born. She was homeschooled, and quickly showed an aptitude for working with machines. When she went into university, she majored in aeronautical engineering, though she studied other branches. After graduating, she worked in a laboratory, where an explosion would render her eyes sightless and crush her arm.

She took a break from her scientific career after she recovered, now in her mid-twenties. She became more interested in physical jobs - specifically, in combat. After two years of practicing various martial arts, shooting, and first-aid, she changed her career to one in physical security, and eventually became a bodyguard. Six years later, she dedicated herself back to engineering.

To say that April was happy when she became part of the Invictus's crew is an understatement. She was overjoyed and took her position with enthusiasm.

PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS: Holly possesses a wiry frame, slender and rather lacking in feminine curvature, with extremely long fingers and legs. Her features are stolid, with a widely bridged nose, full, deeply bowed lips and wide-set eyes in hue of blueish-green. Her jaw line is strong, and her ears stick out slighly more than ordinary, generally hidden behind dark brown, often unruly curls. While her expression lends to stoicism, Holly's smile is quiet catching. A single black beauty mark resides on her upperlip, just to the left of the philtrum groove.

MENTAL EVALUATION: Holly is a people pleaser. While it would be presumptuous (and incorrectly so) to suggest she is a push over, she will, to the best of her abilities, do what she can to ensure resolution to a problem, or avoid conflict. She can be awkward, more accustomed to dealing with people at a clinical level than a professional one, and it has been suggested that she wouldn't know the first thing about social interactions. Because she's used to working in a lab, Holly can come across cold or overly rational in her decisions, but all the same, she wears her heart on her sleeve.

BACKGROUND: Growing up in Jerusalem, Holly was the youngest of twelve, and decidedly 'spare' to a family with far too many mouths to feed. Never neglected, but occasionally overlooked, it left her with plenty of time to the thing she loved more than life itself... Learning.

Wildly intelligent, even at a young age, it did not take Holly long to determine where her future lay. Most of her free time spent studying, she developed a strong love for science - particularly biological science, and in her pursuit of this, discovered a knack for medicine as well. By fifteen, Holly had accomplished more than people twice her age, and became one of the youngest to be accepted into the esteemed Academy for Scientific Discovery and Development.

Following graduation, Holly continued her education and eventually acquired a number of PhDs in multiple studies, all before being offered a position as a science technition in a militarized space program.

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION:

Strengths --




  • An iron mind. Holly rarely, if ever, forgets anything she's learned.
  • A tenacity for life. Holly is a hard one to get down. Despite her apparent physical disposition, she is generally a bright ray of sunshine to most she meets.

Weaknesses --



  • There is such a thing as too smart, and Holly certainly exhibits this. She has an extremely difficult time -not- being the brightest in the room, intellectually speaking, and has a bad habit of correcting... everyone.
  • Social situations are the pinnacle of Holly's weak points, to the degree where she's generally fumbled nearly every convivial circumstance she's been placed in.

Biology
The Meko'Nassi consist of bipedal aliens much similar to feral creatures on earth. Thanks to this, data has been easy to obtain along with classifications. They mainly have the similarities of a fox or a feline, their colors varying depending on their genetic makeup. The Meko'Nassi consist of three subspecies; some having similarities but all of them having significant differences.


Aves Vulpes Sapien- Similar to the Vulpes Sapien, the Aves Sapien is a avian influenced Meko'Nassi. While they have the same physical makeup as a Vulpes Sapien, the Aves Sapien sports feathers instead of fur.

Vulpes Sapien- The Vulpes Sapien are easily comparable to bipedal foxes. They vary in sizes, build, and color, but the majority of them can be identified by their fox-like appearances along with their fur makeup.


Feline Sapien- A strange addition to the Meko'Nassi, the Feline Sapien have many more differences than similarities compared to the Vulpes Sapien and Aves Vulpes Sapien. A minority in the Meko'Nassi, it is predicted that the Feline Sapien were not native to the Meko'Nassi.


Government
The Meko'Nassi government in recent years consists of a militaristic republic. Citizenship and political affairs are restricted to those who serve in some capacity. Whether military, government, research, medical, or commerce, everyone must work in order to receive the benefits of a Meko'Nassi citizen. Military service guarantees citizenship. In the political side of things, as stated before those who vote or hold a chair in office usually have some sort of background in one of the previously mentioned fields. Every 8 years a new leader is elected into office, but majority of galactic affairs are handled by a administration based on the republic's consensus. Rather than handling every single incident based on a vote, the republic empowers the administration to handle the majority of galactic affairs based off of a criteria that is established by republic votes.

Technology
The Meko'Nassi favor both modularity and sleekness. While their technology has advanced like many other alien races that have ascended to space, some time proven tech has managed to stay with them for hundreds of years.

Weapons
The Meko'Nassi primarily use a variety of ballistic weapons rather than the plasma or laser alternatives. They have a variety of weapons, each having their own purpose in their own combat scenario. There are many Meko'Nassi gunsmiths throughout the systems controlled by the Meko'Nassi, and every station is mandated to have a firearms department that is responsible for maintaining their weapons. The weapons primarily consist of:

Handguns- In revolver form and combat pistol form, the handguns used by the Meko'Nassi vary. Typically used by ranking officers and law enforcement, the Meko'Nassi handguns are a quick goto when in a pinch.


Light Assault Rifle- With a magazine capacity of 45, the light assault rifle prioritizes speed over lethality. This weapon is typically used by security teams.

Heavy Assault Rifle- The heavy assault rifle hold a standard magazine of 25 rounds, it reaches far and hits hard. Many military units favor this rifle.

Carbine- A middleman between the Heavy Assault Rifle and Light Assault Rifle, the carbine is a "do it all" rifle regulated to a maximum barrel length 13.7. This weapon is typically used across the board, but is favored by ship and station security teams.

Missile Launcher- A shoulder fired, user guided launcher, the missile launcher has a integrated laser that the user can use to guide the rocket launcher. Due to the dangers of using explosives in space, this weapon is rarely used except when engaging other ships or vehicles.

Ship/Station Armament
Depending on the ship or station the defense systems can vary from being heavily ballistic focused to missile focused. The Meko'Nassi also specialize in using station sized artillery batteries in order to support ships in their sector.

Ships- The ships and stations of the Meko'Nassi carry the designation M.S.S in galactic frequencies. Many of their ships are modular thanks to the Meko'Nassi's building schematics. That being said with time and the right equipment a ship can be readily repurposed or reclassified depending on their needs, hence why many of their ships look like a mixture of block and sleekness appearances. Many of the ships if not all are the same width across the board, making them look almost like floating space bricks.

Many of the ships have classifications very familiar to the human language, however the origins of these classifications are unknown at this time.
Sentinel Class

The Sentinel class ship is a ship that easily compares to Covette class ships across the chart. Its speed relies on a more rigid and flat shapes. Designed for defensive strategies, the sentinel class specializes in responding to a immediate danger.

Skirmisher Class

The Skirmisher Class ship is a ship that follows the traditional role of a destroyer. While it can not take the damage that a cruiser or battleship can take, the skirmisher is one of the first to carry hard hitting weaponry while still being relatively mobile, much like human destroyers.

The Vanguard Class is a ship that specializes in the war of attrition. Slow moving yet heavy hitting. The Vanguard Class is very much comparable to your average cruiser schematics.

Biology

The Rorhzhyrr used to be a servile subspecies from the Syln, and differ drastically on the biological level. Instead of being a single, sapient species, each 'being' of the Rorhzhyrr is actually a colony of a fungal matter that protects itself in a dense shield of hard rock or metal. The fungus itself is known to have high magnetic properties, which allows the colony to easily build these non-material bodies. and while the Rorhzhyyrr colony itself may not differ physically, what they end up creating as their 'being' is vastly diverse from itself.



Government
The Rorhzhyyrr don't have any real sort of organized structure, instead simply floating around the galaxy and finding purpose in their own ways. There are unique instances of the Rorhzhyyrr uniting together, like to free themselves against the Syln and for occasional raids, but for the most part, are very anarchic and are based on a system of survival and need for each colony.

Technology
The Rorhzhyyrr focus heavily on building things that are like themselves and have such gained very extensive knowledge on magnets and magnetism, but aside from the basic biological innovations, have remained mostly blunt and primitive in terms of technological advances, most Rorhzhyyrr ships are just huge masses of junk held together by a really powerful magnet, giving them the nickname of Junkers or scrappers.

As stated earlier, if the blunt force trauma that the Rorhzhyyrr's rock hard bodies don't already give, they also utilize magnetic projectiles and mass drivers as weapons against things that simply wont go down with a large boulder.

Biology
The Syln is a bipedal, sapient, and amphibious alien race with unique photosynthesizing properties. They appear to look and act like flowers of some sort, with large amorphous coverings around their heads. Physically, the Syln vary in color depending on the biome that they have spent most of their time in, and even their shape and structure resemble their respective biome. The most unique feature, of course, has got to be their ability to photosynthesize their own nutrition from light, having little need for nutrition from consuming other creatures.
BIOLOGY REFERENCE
Government
The Syln are a rather peaceful and quiet race, but very pious to the Skyfallen, a mysterious group of beings who were the ones responsible for uplifting their technology. This impacted the once primitive race soo much to the point they now revere them as gods from their planet. Their form is unknown save for a star in the sky. Their religion is also their government- With the more pious taking the leading roles in the government while the less reverent serve to hold them above. A syln may choose to not partake heavily in the religion but in doing so sacrifice their right to hold any political power in their government. The Syln culture and political structure is also very communal, and Syln are more in line with their community or planet more than they are to themselves.


Technology
The Syln utilize the technology the Skyfallen have given them to improve upon themselves. with most of their technology-focused on the use and manipulation of light in different ways, whether for travel, for defense or even for simple things like listening to music and watching television.

Weapons and Ships
As a rather peaceful and rather nonmilitaristic race, weapons and ships are rather low, yet unique for the race. employing centralized beams of light that make harm for their enemies, yet empower the Syln. Their ships or stations stay close to stars and harvest their power for their needs and wants, and their ships closely resemble that of plants that gather around the sun.

Species History:
The Ta'Roq are an adaptive yet cunning people. Even in the beginning when they were hunted by dangerous predators they were cunning. They built spears and bows to help with their hunts. And when they grew, they grew fast. Building, and combat were the two things the Ta'Roq were good at from the beginning. When something broke into their settlements. They built massive walls. When weapons failed, they improved them. And when they got into making Technology they did so well.

In the later years their basic political stage was the same as their pack structure. Females or Matriarchs that rule their keeps controlled the political stage and ruled justly, well some did. Those that did not ruled with fear and tried to conquer Vensis. It took centuries, but the corruption had been expunged and greedy Matriarchs taken down. But once free they were able to thrive and grow into the great society they are today. After the great Expunging they gave more power to males. They can do more but still mainly do military tasks. Their genders are not specific to roles anymore but their is a subtle expectation that hasn't changed.

Their technology and skill is what makes them so very different. They build things that count. The saying "Quality over Quantity" would be their species trait. They build ships that can hold their own even against a fleet. They build cities in remarkable time and they still stand after war, famine, and time.

Now they are ruled by the Grand Matriarch, one female who has proven herself capable to rule and ever since her same family has ruled their people. Her mate is the Grand War Councilor, a keen strategists of all war efforts if their species is attacked. Their children are known as Grand Progeny and often have a good start on life and live up to be the best of their species. They often rise to become great Generals, Admirals and Political Figures. But even they must go through harsh training. Sometimes even harsher than a standard of their people. Not many live, but those that do are destined for greatness.


Interactions with other Species: The Ta'Roq are cautious when it comes to contacting other races. Like on their home planet they knew they weren't the largest or most dangerous, they take this lesson to the stars. They are neutral when wars break out unless directly attacked. They are willing to help those in need such as lost ships and damaged ones but past this they will need to build relations.

Human History
2050-2063: Third world war, small scale nuclear exchange in the middle east leads to 50 million dead and irradiation of most of the world's oil exports as the other global oil producers see vast calls to keep their domestic production in their own country's. The use of proto-AIs is heavy among the larger belligerents of the war, the main focus of their efforts is in cyberspace while the most person to person fighting is done in the middle east and eastern Europe. 100 million die in the conflict.
By 2063 humanity is on the verge of an energy collapse, a solution must be found.

2068: The first of several Fusion reactors come online after work was stalled during the war, nuclear energy seems to be the way forward as construction begins on more.

2070: An unprecedented move of cooperation is undertaken by both the lead nations of the two blocks that only twenty years prior had been at war. Both sides come together to build and fund new and smaller-scale fusion reactors across the world as fusion energy is embraced on a global scale, smaller prototypes are unveiled and rolled out allowing for much quicker and small scale builds. The future looks bright for the first time in a long while.

2077: Humanity has solved its energy concerns for the time being and begins to reflect on what had caused its last war and as with every generation after war humanity looked back to see if they could prevent it from happening again. The top minds and leaders of the world, along with the people themselves all came to a sudden and collective realization, Humanity had outgrown its cradle, it had outgrown earth and thus humanity looked to the stars.

2081: A revolutionary spacecraft using a fusion reactor is launched to the moon, crewed by an international team of scientists and engineers they have one goal, establish the first permanent human settlement on another heavenly body. Accompanying their ship is a transport of the same make and model as their own ship filled with supplies and autonomous construction vehicles all powered by the same miniature fusion reactors that have replaced nearly all of humanity's power needs, also on board are two of humanity's greatest creations, Adam and Eve, the first two true AIs and the controllers of the small fleet of vehicles on board.

2086: The lunar base is a success. Growing from a small science outpost to a thriving community of 500 people, thanks in no small part to the management of construction and food production by the AIs Adam and Eve, Luna one is the first step and the gateway to the solar system at large.

2090: Thirty years after the third great war humanity is more united than ever with the ongoing colonization of the moon and plans to send two more teams to start two new colonies on Earth's natural satellite. This along with quickly advancing AI tech begins to make all the Syfy stories of the past seem like simply the next step for humanity.

2100: Colony ships with their assigned AIs are sent to mars, this time the initial crew number 500 and their ship is designed to be the first habitant on the red planet. Just as Luna one 14 years earlier two AIs are also sent with the crew, one in charge of the building of the colony and the other in charge of building machines to terraform the Martian surface for eventual human settlement of the whole planet.

At the same time, a private enterprise is launched to the Jovian moons. Following the same pattern as the missions to the moon and mars two AIs each controlling two separate functions of the colony when the ships arrive but for this mission, an addition is made, two, in fact, one is the use of rudimentary cryogenics on the 500 strong crew both to slow the metabolic process and make the six-year journey to the Jovian moons easier on the mental health of the crew as well as a new AI to monitor both the crew's vitals and pilot the ship, designated Lazurus. The use of cryonics is a moderate success though 76 crew members do not survive the process the backers of the colony venture to the Jovian moons see worth in the technology and continue its development.

2100-2200: for one hundred years humanity experiences a golden age of exploration of the solar system as well as the growth and advancement of the technologies that allow it to be possible. Clean fusion energy is as prevalent in the 22nd century and gas, coal, and diesel were in the 21st, while AIs go from simple controllers of small colonial operations to organizing and managing cities of millions. The colonies on Mars and the Jovian moons experience population booms as the final terraforming of mars allows the growth of trees and breathable air on the not so red planet's surface while massive cities sprawl the surface as it begins looks more like earth, the Jovian moons are orbited by hundreds of stations orbit the moons and harvest the resources below. The wealth and power offered on these stations so far from Earth attract captains of industry as well as some not so savory types.

The woes of the past century seem long forgotten as mars reach 500 million people and the Jovian stations reach 50 million but for humanity, the past is never very far away and neither is the darkness that caused so much devastation.

2215: A election on mars leads to the Martian People's Union to take a majority of seats in the planets parliament, the MPU formed from a small independence movement back in the 2180s that was considered unthinkable. The MPU gained much popularity after peacekeepers from earth opened fire on a striking force in one of Mars' largest cities in 2202 due to a delay in orders and support as well as the crowd moved in but the party had also taken on a more radical approach "Mars forever" was their slogan and they saw no issues removing those in the way of their goal of independence from earth even if that meant innocent Martians were injured or killed.

2218: A coup on the Jovian stations lead by some of the wealthiest industrialists there cemented a Corporatocracy that called for independence from the earth and heavy exploitation of the planets and systems around them. Elections and political parties were banned and enforced by the "corporation's", as the new government came to be known, hired guns from the pooer stations.

2225: several explosions rock the skies and hearts of major capitals on earth as dense fog settles over the major parts of the cities, the fog being chlorine gas which settles over and kills or incapacitates thirty thousand in a manner of hours, as this occurs the MPU on mars dissolves their parliament declaring itself the sole party and well as independent from earth, the move is met with near-universal approval on the planet. Several days later the Corporation, sensing weakness, also declares it's independence from Earth though too much less approval among the populace of the Jovian stations.

It took earth several months but the explosives, as well as the chlorine gas used in the attacks, were traced back to mars and the Jovian stations respectively and earth and her people cried, not in sadness or pain but for blood. and on October 27th, 2225 humanity once again went to war as Earth declared war on both Mars and the Corporation.

2226: Earth sees the largest mobilizations of troops, material, and weapons in history and within six months there are over 600 million volunteers. Shipyards which just a few short months prior were producing harvesting ships for orbiting farms and transports for resources mined from asteroids were suddenly pumping out troop transports and ground assault ships and factories go from making luxury items to making weapons of war.

Mars also see mobilization as all its citizens are called to serve, men and women, 14 to 65. Those not able to serve for combat are made to work in factories to produce material for the war while the megacities of mars are made into fortresses of steel and concrete.

At the edge of the solar system, the corporation goes dark as contact with the Jovian stations is lost.

2226-2230: The martian campaign is only four years long, it is the most brutal form of warfare seen in human history, cities are wiped from the surface of Mars in the process of retaking the planet. By the end of the campaign, there are over 200 million casualties and almost as many wounded. For all the advancements of mankind the fighting came down to hand to hand, blade to blade in some cases.

2233: As the Jovian campaign is planned a message is received from the stations, the message states they are surrendering unconditionally. The corporations had been overthrown by the people of the stations bringing a muted end to the first interplanetary war.

2236: Many people, many veterans and those affected by the war feel dissatisfaction and discontentment with earth, mars and the Jovian stations. Places, where they had killed or watched those close to them, be killed. A new call for colonization rises from these people just as had happened in the 2080s but this time people want to go further. Project Invictus is started.

2239: In only three years a former military ship is commissioned and retrofitted with a revolutionary new cryonics system, AI and reactor. Room for 50 thousand people to travel to a new star system and start fresh, away from Earth and the old grudges of the past.

2240: The HSS Sol Invictus launches.

Human technology

Energy: Humanity has largely converted to the use of fusion reactors, both large and small scale, for everything from space travel to cars. A concentrated effort has been made to make them smaller and more efficient over time with the smallest being one pound rechargeable MFCs (micro fusion cells) units used to power everything from weapons to drones.
Larger FCs (fusion cores) are enough to power homes or vehicles with more than one being needed for large operations of course.
Fusion reactors are the mainstay for energy production at the time of the Invictus's launch, small ones used to power heavy industry and small towns, medium ones capable of powering small cities in the 500,000 population range and finally the large fusion reactors used in megacities of 1 million or more or starships. The largest Fusion reactor powers a city if 50 million.
All fusion-based tech has fail-safes in the event of ruptured containment which will power down the MFC, FC or reactor to prevent catastrophic failure.

Humanity has dabbled with artificial intelligence for centuries but didn't truly take off until the end of the third great war, the use of proto AIs amongst the main factions of the war for cyberspace warfare spurned a greater interest in the technology and with the advent of a renewed interest in space colonization they were seen as an excellent tool to manage some of the rigors of future missions and allow human personal to focus on more important tasks. By the time of the launch of the Invictus, AI has advanced to be nearly human or at least a class of AI has. By 2240 two main classes of AI exist, the first and simpler classes of AI were known as Apollo class. An Apollo class AI was more machine than anything else, programmed at the start of their existence for one task only and while an Apollo class could learn how to better accomplish its task it wouldn't be able to learn anything outside that.
The more advanced of the two was unsurprisingly called the Artemis class. An Artemis class AI was usually made from a scan of a human brain and allowed to mature and develop its personality at it's preferred rate, these AI could learn and adapt to new tasks outside of their original intent, they also had a wide arrange of emotions similar to a human. Artemis class AIs were very rare though, expensive to create and taking years to develop.

Lasers rifles: Early on in the development of MFCs for mass production and commercial use and enterprising young scientist found they were a perfect power source for small scale experiments he and others were conducting involving lasers. Long story short someone figured out how to direct powerful lasers using MFCs as a power source for what became actual laser rifles, most of which followed similar form factor to ballistic weapons of the 21st century.
All rifles have varying intensities

Red: Standard operating mode, one MFC grants 600 shots in this wavelength and can be comparable to a standard-issue rifle of the 21st century in terms of killing power and generally is seen as what everyone stays on.

Green: This wavelength is for a more specialized purpose, taking over as a grenadier or support role these lasers allow an infantryman or woman to destroy chunks of infrastructure or destroy rooms much like a grenade launcher could in the past. These rifles can operate both at red or green wavelengths. 200 shots

Blue: Wavelength for anti-vehicle use, adds more power again but fewer shots then red. Unable use green wavelength only red and blue. 100 shots.

Infrared: Rifles made to fire in the infrared wavelength are few and far between as they are considered WMDs of a sort as well as making the weapon violently unstable if used. The invisible nature of these beams makes strikes on the target hard to measure until effects are seen and are considered inhumane to use on sentient targets though unconfirmed reports of their use during the martian campaign have been logged. 10 shots.

Ship-based: Ship-based lasers were always in the blue wavelength for ship to ship combat but can be switched to inferred for planetary bombardment.

Blades: Blades have always been apart of human culture and came with them to space for a variety of tasks and everyday use. As primary weapons of war, however, they fell by the wayside even before the third great war during the 21st century, the martian campaign changed that. As so many people served in the front line fighting in the martian megacities was a common battlespace in close quarters where a laser rifle just didn't cut it. Earth scientists and military leaders soon were at work to give the earth infantry something he or she could really on and thus the high-frequency monomolecular blade was born of HFM blades. Ranging from simple knives to swords or axes, the blades of these weapons vibrated as such high frequencies they could cut through pretty much anything man-made, of course in this context it was cutting through people. This isn't to say without power they were useless, each blade at its edge was only the width of a single carbon nanotube and thus extremely sharp, of course, this edge would dull over time with any blade but combined with the HF nature of these blades you couldn't find better cutting power.

Much could be said about human culture by the time of the Invictus launch, before the war for mars humanity was in a golden age and culture was dominated by a fusion of the east and west. People were open and welcoming of each other and saw every stranger as a new experience to have and many were reconnecting with the native civilizations of the lands they inhabited. The martian war changed that though the cultural heart of humanity was the same but it was darker, somehow perverted. What had once been open and accepting was now cold and closed off, stoicism reigned in public as affection was reserved for only the closest of people and in private, so many had lost friends and family in the campaign to retake mars that getting close was seen as a danger as that person might be ripped away from you at any moment. The veterans of the conflict were even more affected, like human statues at times as a particular place, smell or sound brought back memories of the worst kind and society didn't know how to deal with them as the last large scale war had been over a century and a half earlier. Invictus was seen as a chance to start fresh and get away from it all but that shadow still lingers on the soul of humanity.

The unconquered sun, the hope of humanity, the last chance. The Invictus as it was shortened to was seen as a new start for humanity, a new start away from the old wounds of the earth that no amount of time could fix. A former military ship built during the martian campaign and designed along the line of a battleship the Invictus has been retrofitted to hold 50,000 souls in cryostasis, the crew quarters reduced to just a small space as the active crew will be awoken several weeks prior to the final descent onto the new planet they will all call home. The Invictus is equipped with highly advanced cryostasis pods as well as humanity's most advanced AI to date, Victoria. The ship also sports several turbo lasers to destroy any rogue object that might threaten the ship on its interstellar voyage.

Artemis class AI Victoria is a crown jewel of human science, bleeding edge in every sense this AI can control the Invictus, monitor the members of the ship in stasis and adjust conditions to keep them in top health and calculate pie indefinitely without breaking a metaphorical sweat. Powered by a separate fusion reactor on the Invictus Victoria is the true soul of the ship and she is connected to every soul on board.

The living cargo of the Invictus was chosen from a long list of volunteers and invitations were sent to people the project's leaders thought would benefit the new human start. Once selected each member of the future colony underwent minor surgery to implant them with a "nanite colony" another advancement for this mission, these nanite colonies would purge and breakdown any toxins encountered in their hosts, allow for better absorption of nutrients in what was no doubt to be a very alien world indeed and most importantly they connected directly to Victoria who could monitor the conditions of all souls aboard the Invictus.

I'm so sorry @Furasian - I'm gonna have to pull out of this group. I appreciate all the work you've been putting into this, but it seems to have stalled a bit and I've jumped into some other projects meanwhile, and I don't want to overwhelm myself too much if this suddenly gains momentum again.

MENTAL EVALUATION: A battle-weary man in his late middle age, having served in the war for mars Alex has seen the deaths of friends and enemies alike and this has affected the man, stoic and quiet while speaking only when it's needed in command situations. A realist and brutally honest Alex isn't a man to mince words or give people the sugar-coated version of events and has gotten fists thrown at him on more than one occasion for this but this isn't to say, Alex can't be or isn't kind to people he has just learned to keep them at arms length less they end up another lost soul he must grieve over.

MAIN ASSIGNMENT: Captain

BACKGROUND: Alex was a prodigy in the military academy, which before the war was seen as a simple stepping stone for higher rungs of society, a future as commander of the fleets was what his instructors used to say as Alex excelled in theoretical warfare and political science. Once he graduated reality became much starker as he was assigned XO of a small patrol vessel and waited nearly five years before he was given command of his own, a largely out of date battle cruiser relegated to asteroid and comet breaking in the Ort cloud. When the war for Mars broke out Otto mulled over who to support, he had been born on Mars and most of his crew were made up of Martian born humans as well and while loyalty to their government made them question it at the end of the day they chose their home and sided with the rebels. The war was short but brutal and Alex had been given a small contingent of civilian ships retrofitted for combat along with his out battle cruiser to keep the earth navy from mars to the best of his abilities. Using the asteroid belt as cover and as weapons, Alex was able to keep the human navy from completely blockading mars but never was he able to wrestle control from them. At the war's conclusion, Alex was brought before a tribunal for charges of treason and given two choices, face a firing squad or captain a generation vessel and help humanity start anew, it's obvious which option he took.

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION: cold. good at improvisation. Blunt. Stoic in the face of adversity.

But soon he had hunting more dangerous prey. Humans. Learning how to track and trap them. Learning how to kill them fast.
Her inane father trained Vick to use firearms of varying kinds. Build and set traps. And even taught her some hand-to-hand combat. Vick has killed multiple people for her father. Never an innocent and never someone who had no chance of fighting back. But still she had killed because he told her too. Vick left home as soon as she got a chance. Away from her crazed psychopathic killer family the only way she knew for sure that they could not follow her. Into space.


PERFORMANCE EVALUATION:

- Positive 1: Strong willed and never willing to back down.
- Positive 2: Resourceful and scrappy, always striving to find some way to overcome.
- Negative 1: Stubborn, does not know when to stop.
