The Invuctus Saga
Chapter 1: From The Darkness

The universe has moved on without us, our seat in history now vacant, nothing more than myth and theory. The crew on board the H.S.S Sol Invictus had remain dormant in cryostasis for centuries, the exact number of how long they had been adrift being unknown. They had set off from their homes long ago to colonize a planet, little did they know that their role for humanity was going to be even greater than anticipated... Little did they know they'd awaken to be the last of their kind.

There was darkness throughout the ship, the lighting system having been put on standby mode aeons ago. Only recently did the darkness become pierced by a dim light that reached as far as it could from a turned on console, it's display revealing a command prompt.

Where there was darkness suddenly there was light. Hallways and rooms became illuminated once more, however there wasn't a single soul in sight, a ship without her crew manning the station's or walking the halls. Such a problem was quick to be resolved shortly after the lights were turned on.

Cryo Chamber

The cryo chamber was long ago a storage room that housed weapons and ammunition long ago. Now it holds the entire crew of the Sol Invicticus, each member delicately placed under cryo sleep for the day that they were needed. That day had finally come. As a white light filled the room the cryo caskets began to open one by one. Everyone who had been in a slumber was woken once more. As people began to regain their bearings and climb out of their cryo pods a feminine voice belonging to the station's AI came to life on the intercom.

"Attention, all medical staff please begin preliminary exams. Command staff report to the bridge for unidentified contact report."

April inhaled, filling her lungs with the ship's air. It was surprisingly less dramatic than she'd expected--no rattling desperate gasp for oxygen, no violent hacking and coughing that left her breathless. Just an inhale and a feeling of light-headedness. It took a moment for her limbs to catch up with her brain, the stiff muscles to revive. She pulled herself up into a sitting position, shaking her head to clear it of sluggishness. April rubbed at her right bicep, trying to get it to relax as she looked around to see who else had started to get up.

Alex Wolff
-----

Alex came out of his cryo pod slowly, his only previous experience with it had been on a training mission and that hadn't been a stellar experience. He felt the grogginess wash over him as he tried to get his bearings and wake up fully since command of the ship fell to him. Alex looked to his left and right as people slowly climbed out of their pods as well, some looking for family members and others looking for the nearest waste area to vomit as their bodies reacted negatively to the wake-up, he stood tall and started to make his way towards the bridge area wondering who or what he was going to bump into on this new world they were supposed to settle.

The purple sleek vessel had been patrolling for hours. As the bridge crew was busy working they were checking sensor readings, running ship diagnostics, and dozens of other specific and broad areas of information. Vul'Na sat at her com station clicked in interest as new data came in through the last sensor result. She had been waiting for the last ping a few moments ago. Keeping busy with all the repeating pings and keeping an eye out for any changes. But as she was going to move past the last bit of sensor data and wait for another ping to arrive with new data she found an outlier. Echos, like one made by a ship or a construct. It wasn't uncommon to find debris in the vastness of space. Or debris in planetary belts that are bumped out of the gravity well and float away. However they were the only vessel this far out in space. This is uncharted territory. But what bothered the female was the constant pace of the object and how slow it was. Reporting something and it being nothing may end in a poor result for her. But this signal was one of two things. A ship in hiding or a still notable sized Asteroid that the Grand Defiance should avoid.

Looking over her shoulder she saw the second in command sitting in the command chair. The room was shaped in a U. The work stations like her own were a few feet below the command level where ramps lead down from each end. Standing out of the chair at her station she grabbed her personal data pad with the data on it. She clicked and walked cautiously over to the officer on deck. The male looked down at her as she approached and leaned forward in his chair. Looking down she waited for him to speak "Did you find something of interest?" He asked in a rather annoyed tone. The commanding officer was of normal height but held a bit more muscle than the average Tau'Roq. His feathers holding a primary color of Green with a section of silver at the ends. The colors being bright to show he is healthy. Wearing a set of combat armor that had the color of green as a primary. Along with the foul look on his face a set of scars running across his elongated face. He was rather unliked but due to skill and an exceptional level of strength he has kept his rank for some time. Vul'Na nodded then looked up at him "Indeed Sir" Forwarding the information from her data pad she displayed the information in front of the command chair. The U shaped room having a large display wall meant for the Commanding officer on deck to pull up any feed and see whatever may be out in the vast void. Looking at the sensor readings Gren seemed uninterested "You bring me worthless information and waste my time. Do you intend to bother me?" He said harshly with a lip raised to display a set of teeth "no sir i was just wanting to-" Gren simply growled drowning her out as he rose to his feet "Enough! I will determine this! I am in command!" As his words echoed out did the door to the bridge open. Entering was six of her own kind. "Would you care to say that again?" Spoke one of them. Looking Vul'Na spotted the six and recognized them immediately. The crimson armored warriors were Guards. Royal guards who were the best her species could offer. The one exiting their protective formation wore gold armor. With a long crimson cloth with a white crest covering his left shoulder marking him of the royal line. As well as the Commander of this ship and everyone on it. She hadn't tried to hold a smirk back as Gren went from dictator to submissive servant in a blink of an eye.

Approaching Jadur let out a deep snarl at his second in command. As he approached his seat Gren sheepishly stepped away so he was alone on the command level except for his guards. Looking down at the Com specialist Jadur chuckled "What do you have for me?" As he listened to her words he found the result exciting. When she spoke to Gren and as he put the insubordinate second in command in his place more information had come in "Worse comes to worse we find nothing but rock. However......if your assumption is correct. Then we are not alone in this system" He was quiet for several moments. A clawed hand closed in a fist and the other covering allowing him to rest his head on his hands as he decided. Weighing risk and reward. He had discovered alien ships before. But this object was big. Enough to heavily damage the Grand Defiance if he wasn't careful "Very well. Set the ship for an intercept jump. I want shields up. Weapons ready. Engine power out of jump i want at 45 percent. Leave us enough for a quick escape if needed. As well as three flights of banshees for patrol and fighter defense the moment we exit" Even before he finished speaking the ship went to weapons ready and bridge crew were fast at work. Soon a blue portal appeared on the command screen. Then went to black as the ship left its spot in space and entered the portal for its intended destination.

VICTORIA
Within the ships complicated systems resided the AI Victoria, a monument to human technology as it ran a series of diagnostics throughout the ship. Most responses were troubling, but expected when handling a ship that has been dormant for ages. There was one critical issue that stood out above the rest however; the main engine appeared to be having a mechanical failure. All algorithms pointed to needing human intervention to get things running again. Without any repairs the Sol Invictus would continue to only operate on low power.

After coming to such a conclusion VICTORIA activated the intercom system, entering a prompt message before returning to the usual diagnostics. There was a pause in the system though, the pause originating in the sensors. It was a automated warning within the system. Something was coming.

Cryo Chamber
Everything was transitioning smoothly as crew began to wake up in selected groups. Over time people began to wake up, some suffering from a array of side effects that came with being suddenly woken from their cryo stasis. Doctors and medics were hard at work, pushing through their discomforts with what training they had in order to help those in need of medical attention. Life slowly returned to the once desolate ship as everyone began getting their assignments. In the din that naturally came with big crowds the intercoms came to life, speaking clearly in a familiar monotone, feminine voice.

"Attention, system diagnostics are complete. Mechanics and engineers are requested to main power engine to begin repairs. "

Once the message concluded normal tasks were resumed. The main doors to the halls were opened with ease as those who were in somewhat stable condition began to report to their respective departments. Only a few minutes had passed before the intercom once again spoke up.

"Command staff please report to bridge or nearest holopad for contact report on short range sensors."

Following that message a small pedestal like emplacement began to glow next to the door. It was well-kept and clean, featuring a hand scanner and what appeared to be a small holographic projector. The hand scanner was glowing as if waiting for someone to place their palm on its surface.

April perked up at the announcement. She stretched out her muscles one last time before she began making her way toward the door, mumbling apologizes as she picked her way through the crowds of people in various states of lucidity. A few of the staff members that had been called to their stations were starting to gather around the hand scanner. April pushed her way forward and pressed her left hand to her scanner.
