The Human that Took her Heart.

Chris was calmed when she was allowed to hold Akatsuki's hand, and she never, ever wanted to let go of her. She smiled at the blush that littered Akatsuki's cheeks, making her want to kiss both of those cheeks and make them even more red. She couldn't care less if people saw them together, holding hands and looking much like a couple. It didn't matter to her if anyone thought "wrong" thing about them. Of course, it wasn't unusual for her to get attention from others, but it didn't affect her as much in the end. Besides, it was all rather easy. She just had to block out the whispers and ignore the glances and then she'd be okay. Of course, this wasn't what she had thought would happen when a transfer student came to their class. She hadn't thought that her life would turn out like this. But she wouldn't say she hated it. She had asked a girl out and it had made her happier than ever before. She wanted for her and Akatsuki to be lovers somewhere in the future, if Akatsuki also wanted to.

As Akatsuki followed Chris to the classroom she looked straight ahead and ignored everyone that stared at them as they walked through the halls. People whispered and glared at Akatsuki, while others admired how bold they were and watched as they passed by. Somehow, Akatsuki didn't understand what was so strange about two people of the same gender holding hands or being in a relationship. It was normal. There were a lot of people like that in this world. Yet she couldn't understand why humans were so judgemental about trivial things.

Thinking about it, Akatsuki began to wonder if Chris would be troubled if they were to be in a relationship. The people that admired Chris would cause problems, rumours about them would be spread around the school, and people would never leave them alone. Well, not that they ever did. Many thoughts ran through Akatsuki's head as she thought of the possiblities that might happen if she went out with Chris and also wondered if her feelings were true and not just the spur of the moment when Chris kissed her, causing her to act strangely. Akatsuki wanted to think it through, she didn't want to lie and hurt Chris. It would be better if she spoke the truth. That was one of the morals she was taught when she was young. Looking at Chris, Akatsuki wondered what Chris was thinking at the moment and how she felt about everyone staring and whispering about them.

Chris made sure that she would look proudly straight ahead of herself when she walked to the classroom with Akatsuki. She skillfully ignored all of the people that would stare at them when they walked through the halls hand in hand. Of course, some were admiring their boldness for walking through the halls like that without even hiding themselves in the least. Of course, Chris herself didn't understand the point of hating on homosexuality. It was such a small part of the world's problems and yet treated as if it was more important than the hunger around the earth. It was so trivial, so pointless to worry about. People didn't have the right to care what she did with her life, after all. It was her decision and no one had the right to talk about it.

That was also one of the reasons that there was nothing to trouble her. She wouldn't be affected if her and Akatsuki started dating, then she'd just have someone with her when people stared strangely at her. Of course, her admirers would probably cause trouble and spread bad, bad rumors but she didn't see a reason to worry about that. There were more important things to worry about. Either way, those girls would probably never leave them be, anyways. So why not give them something to hate on? A lot of thoughts ran through her head, mostly about what was going to happen from here on with her and Akatsuki if they began dating. The question of her feelings was also there, what if her feelings would just be a spur of the moment influenced partly by that kiss and she'd end up hurting Akatsuki? Would it really work out in the end? Of course, she'd need some time to think things through, so that she wouldn't end up hurting Akatsuki or getting hurt herself. Speaking the truth would always be the best idea, it was a good moral to walk around with so that her heart remained untainted. She smiled at Akatsuki as they reached the classroom. "There you are, this is the art classroom." She said with a smile as she sat down. "Let's get to drawing, shall we?"

Akatsuki nodded at Chris and walked into the classroom, sitting next to her. Just as she wondered where the teacher had went, a female teacher in her 30's walked in. Watching the teacher as she scanned te classroom, Akatsuki saw a hint of confusion on her face as she recounted the students in her class. "Is there an extra person in this class?" She asked as she waited for the students to respond. Everyone in the class turned to look at Akatsuki and Chris and the tecaher nodded. "Ah, yes. There you are. You must be Akatsuki, I see that you have adjusted to the school" Akatsuki nodded in response and the teacher smiled at her and Chris.

Getting the class's attention, the art teacher explained that they were making portraits of each other, just as Chris had told her. Not bothering to listen as the teacher explained what to do, Akatsuki picked up her pencil, and began to sketch, looking at every detail of Chris and adding shading for depth and perspective. Immersed into drawing, Akatsuki drowned everything out as if no one existed at the moment and drew a portrait of Chris. Her hand movements were smooth and graceful as she sketched, not missig any details and not even stopping or puttin her pencil down, she continued to sketch without stopping.

When they walked into the classroom, Chris made sure to have the least noticeable seat in the back - she wasn't in the mood for confrontations with anyone. She looked up as their rather young teacher walked in the door, and watched in amusement at her confusion. It wasn't like Akatsuki was hard to spot, with her different and outstanding appearance. No matter the clothes she wore, she would stand out. Just like Chris. It was like demons emitted this aura that made them stand out in a crowd even if they tried to blend in with it. She blinked and didn't smile back at the teacher as she smiled at them. She had been a little confused, honestly. She looked at Akatsuki and noticed that their fingers were touching each other.

When the teacher started telling them about all of the boring things, neither of the two girls cared and took out their sketching pads. While Akatsuki drew her, she also drew Akatsuki right as she was there, with her beautiful eyes and face and her hair, not missing out of details and possibly even making the gorgeous demon even more beautiful on her drawing. There was shade and depth and light and all of the beautiful details, plus the artistic touch that made her art simply stunning. Of course, she was very focused and didn't want to stop until the end, until she'd gotten the background behind Akatsuki into her picture as well.

After finishing the last details of the portrait of Chris, Akatsuki put her utensil down and examined what she had drawn. It was perfect. The lines and shading had texture and the expression of Chris was precise. It showed personality and emotion. None of the details were left out. When Akatsuki drew the picture of Chris, she drew exactly what Chris looked like to everyone else, but also how she saw Chris through her own eyes. While everyone saw Chris as a prince she saw Chris as just Chris and nothing else.

Glancing over at Chris, Akatsuki raised her hand to call the teacher over to grade it. Examining it for a grade, the teacher had a surprised expression, her eyes scanning the details that weren't missed out and how the portrait of Chris conveyed some sort of emotion or story. She was shocked at how detialed and precise it was that she just stared at it in silence for awhile. Smiling, the teacher gave her an 'A' and suggested her to consider joing the art club. "I'll think about it" Akatsuki answered to the teacher as she walked away. Closing her sketch book, Akatsuki watched as Chris sketched her and wondered how she was drawn and if Chris was good at drawing.

Chris always spent extra time on her drawings. It wasn't that she was unsure and had to change a lot, but she preferred to take it slow. Hers expressed exactly what she saw in Akatsuki; she saw beauty, grace and, despite the things that had darkened her during her past, Chris also saw a golden heart and purity that went above most humans. She knew that that was just the custom of demons, they were surprisingly pure. Her drawing was absolutely gorgeous, also showing off her creativity by adding things that she thought fitting for Akatsuki's personality.

When she was finally done, she had the teacher come by, but of course it was an "A" again because the teacher simply couldn't give her a higher grade. She was always praised to the skies by her teacher, and this time was no different. She listened with half an ear as she just nodded at whatever the teacher said until she left. When that was over, she put down the sketch back onto the table as she rubbed her eyes. She always got tired eyes after finishing a drawing, it was like an exhausting contest to her. She sighed as she glanced over at Akatsuki, allowing herself a smile. She wondered what was going to happen on from here, but something in her couldn't find the will to care if this was what they were going to get.

Akatsuki heard the teacher give an 'A' to Chris and smiled. Wondering if Chris enjoyed art as she did and if Chris was naturally talented in art or had to improve over the years. Opening her sketchbook again, Akatsuki decided to sketch a picture of flamed surrounding a forest with shadowed people that no faces, holding torches since there was still some time left until class ended. "Do you enjoy this class?" Akatsuki asked as she was immersed in her drawing, not looking up from her sketchbook. Multi tasking was not a problem for her and she always did it to finish her work or homework when she went to a demon school, mostly because she had extra classes that filled up her whole schedule and had to find a solution to taking all the classes plus school work. So, speaking while doing something was no problem.

Which brings up the subject as to why human's classes were so limited since they could only do so much. Well, demons didn't need much sleep anyway, so that might have been another reason why demons didn't have a problem. Putting her thoughts aside, she continued to sketch. Burnt bodies lying on the ground, were now visible in her drawing as others had multiple wholes in thier bodies from bullets. The drawing was grotesque and conveyed an emotion of loss, pain, and hatred. The picture felt real, making it seem as if it really happened, and that the person looking at the picture was actually there.

Chris was fine with that A. She was always given them, anyways, and streams of nice comments about her work. She didn't really like the teacher that much, she was too chippery and always praised them a bit too much, making Chris annoyed with the woman. She sighed slightly as she rubbed her temple, unable to pick up her pen again once she started hearing the voice of the teacher around the classroom. It made her feel like she was going to be sick, or something worse. She tried not to let it show as she rubbed her forehead, trying to keep her breathing in well control. She was not going to faint now, of all times, not in something like art class. Sure, she had a lot of things that she endured better than humans, but in case of sounds that annoyed her, she was weak and would sometimes wound up sick if she was exposed to sounds that her brain couldn't handle.

"Yeah... I suppose... that I enjoy it... to some extent..." She mumbled as she rubbed her forehead insistently, sighing deeply as she tried to make her headache go away. She didn't want to say that it was the teacher's voice giving her a headache, something like that was stupid. She looked up at Akatsuki. "There's just this annoying sound in my ear, you see." He said as he sighed, looking at Akatsuki with a smile. "The bell's gonna ring soon. Where should we go afterwards?" She asked, not really paying much attention to the drawing that Akatsuki was making on top of her throbbing headache. She let her head fall between her knees as she breathed out heavily.

Akatsuki looked up from her drawing, noticing the slight hint of annoyance in Chris' voice and knew that it was somehow because of the teacher. Seeing, Chris rub her forehead, Akatsuki put her pencil down and closed her sketchbook. Akatsuki didn't bother to ask Chris if she was alright, because clearly, that would be a rhetorical question. In the human world, humans would ask if she was alright despite clearly seeing that she was in fact, not alright. In Akatsuki's case, she found it stupid to ask such obvious questions.

Looking at Chris, Akatsuki just looked at her concerned, wondering if she should do something about it. After all, headaches weren't particulalry pleasant to have. Wondering what she should do, she asked Chris, "Do you need to see the school nurse?" Implying Chris to do something about her headache so that it doesn't get worse.

"Ugh, I guess so." Chris mumbled as she looked up at Akatsuki. "Would you follow me there? It sucks going to such a place alone, besides, it wouldn't be the first time if I faint." She admitted as she ran a hand through her hair, trying to soothe her intense headache. She had had them since the early times of her childhood, and it had something to do with her inheritance, apparently. Her ears changed in their sensitivity to volume at any time, leaving her with headaches in the most random and unwanted situations, like now. Now was a great example of that.

She slowly got up, though a bit shaky, and supported herself against the back of the chair. Her head felt like it was falling apart, and any kind of sound just made it worse. She wish she could just have some silence... or less headache. Whatever worked would be fine with her. She let out a groan of discomfort as she tried to will her headache away. God she hated it.

Akatsuki nodded and walked towards Chris to help her when she saw Chris supporting herself with a chair. Not being able to carry Chris, Akatsuki just let Chris lean on her for support as they walked out of the classroom just as the bell rang. Which saved them from trouble if they walked out of the classroom while class was still in session without reporting to the teacher where they were going.

Not exactly knowing where the nurses' office was, Akatsuki just let Chris lead the way as she supported her, watching to make sure that if she fainted, Akatsuki would be able to catch her fall so that she wouldn't hit the ground. It concerned Akatsuki, by the fact that Chris had mentioned that she fainted all the time and hoped that nothing was wrong with Chris and that it was just a headache and nothing more.

Chris lead way to the infirmary with a cloudy mind, but she managed to find her way there anyways. She was a mess when she finally got there and got into the bed, and the nurse tended to her, giving her some pills before leaving her to rest, warning her to leave the place too early in case of her getting a seizure again. Of course, this was when Akatsuki could hear it, and Chris started to feel guilty.

She sighed as she lied there in the bed. It was always so boring to be stuck in the infirmary. "Can you stay here with me?" She inquired at Akatsuki as she looked over at the female, her eyes meeting the other's in a stare. She allowed herself a little smile even if she was absolutely exhausted, and she desired to be with Akatsuki for as long as possible. Besides, she hated feeling lonely, especially in a boring place like an infirmary.

All Akatsuki could do was support Chris, she felt useless for not being able to do anything else, but she didn't really know the school very well. When they got to the nurses office, Akatsuki stood beside Chris as the nurse gave her some pills and gave her a warning about getting a seizure. Akatsuki was frozen for a moment and turned to look at Chris concerned. She always gets a seizure? Akatsuki thought, wondering if Chris had a serious health issue. Snapping out of her thoughts, Akatsuki nodded at Chris and sat down on the bed that was beside her.

"You always had it?" Akatsuki asked, implying about the seizure the nurse had mentioned. "Is it serious?" She spoke quietly, worried that her speaking would make Chris' headache worse. Thinking about it, Akatsuki had always been healthy. Never once was she sick that often. Except for this one incident when she stayed out in the rain for days because of some humans who lied to her about losing something. She even went out of er way to help them, but they lied to her... Shaking the memory away, she smiled gently at Chris as she scrunched her nose from the strong smell of disinfectant and antibiotics.

"Yes... it's a disease. They can't find the origin, or, the human doctors can't... The demon healer I visited about 50 years ago told me that it had to do with my genetic inheritance... my demon genes interfering with my human ones, and vice versa. It causes weird symptoms. Sometimes I get sensitive to light, or sound -" She stopped slightly as she referred to her headache. " - other than that, I can get a panic attack or a seizure. They don't see any problems with my heart, lungs or anywhere else specific, it's simply my messed up body unable to agree with itself... if that makes sense. So I don't really know if I can call it "serious" or anything like that."

Chris didn't like talking about her problems with others. She felt like Akatsuki already had enough on her shoulders, she didn't need a gene-wise fucked up person to come and talk to her about health problems. Sometimes, she'd said to herself that whoever wanted to leave and abandon her had all the reason in the world - but this time, this damn time, she couldn't allow herself that. Everything in her body screamed at her, telling her that she had to be with Akatsuki or else she wouldn't have anyone else in her life. And she knew that those voices weren't lying. They were telling her the truth. She would have nothing to stay for if Akatsuki suddenly disappeared. There'd be no one left for her to love.

"Disease..." Akatsuki repeated, getting a flashback from her past. Her expression suddenly darkened as she saw a figure of a young boy, pale, ill, and weak, standing with his back towards her. Shaking the memory away, Akatsuki looked away from Chris sadly, hoping that it wouldn't be like that time. Hoping that Chris wouldn't end up like him...

"It's serious!" Akatsuki accidently outbursted. "S-sorry..." she apologized quietly, turning away from Chris. She just didn't want chris to end up like him. "It's serious... Because someone very close to me, died because of an unknown disease" Akatsuki explained. "I just... Don't want you to end up like him..." Akatsuki had many people around her die, but his death affected her the most, he was the closest person to her and it took her years to accept his death. Knowing that someone else that has entered her life has an unknown disease, really made something like a stake puncture through her heart. She didn't want to lose anyone again from a disease.

Chris felt like she'd said something bad. She wondered if she could make it up to Akatsuki again, she didn't want to spark any bad memories. She had been told that it wasn't fatal and it wasn't going to be, ever, but people still took it very seriously. And she didn't expect Akatsuki to be any different from those, demon or not. She wondered if Akatsuki was mad at her.

But she was surprised by the sudden outburst. She smiled softly as she crawled closer to Akatsuki, hugging her tightly. "Y'know... if you're scared that I'll die and leave you behind, you don't need to worry. Really, there's no need for you to do that. I just want you to know that it might cause me to faint sometimes and I can get headaches and get angry..." Chris smiled slightly as she took Akatsuki's face between her hands. "But now that I've found you, I won't leave you behind." She murmured as she kissed Akatsuki again, softly, gently. There was no one else in the room and she knew they wouldn't be caught. Even if they were, they'd probably not be reprimanded for it.

Akatsuki looked into Chris' eyes when Chris held her face in her hands. "I- I never said that I was scared" Akatsuki stuttered, looking away from Chris. "He said the exact same thing..." Akatsuki spoke, when Chris said that she didn't need to worry. "He said the exact same thing you did! Yet... I believed him... And went on as if nothing was wrong just like he told me to do.... And then..." Akatsuki stopped, as tears began to fall. Suddenly, Chris kissed her and without thinking, she kissed back clumsily.

No one was around. Akatsuki knew because she could sense if a person was nearby or not. She was confused and upset. She didn't want the past to repeat itself again. Breaking away from the kiss, Akatsuki looked away. "Sorry," she apologized for her outburst and the things she said to Chris.

Chris smiled a little as she wiped away the tears on Akatsuki's cheeks. "Idiot. I'm not going to die on you, and you don't have to apologize. I know you must've felt so bad back then... but I've gone to a doctor, and he's assured me that my life isn't in danger, and he was a renowned demon healer. I'm sure that he knows what he's talking about." Chris whispered as she moved a lock of hair from Akatsuki's face. "Besides, it's just a hassle. I do end up in a hospital some times, but then it's because I bumped my head while fainting. I've never been in the hospital only for a seizure."

Chris hoped that she was being assuring... at least a little bit. She hated when others worried to that point about her. She hugged Akatsuki tightly. "If I was going to die, I wouldn't have become anyone's friend, I wouldn't fall in love. I'm not going to leave you, I'm going to stay right here and be annoying, so I hope that you'll bear with that." She said with a little grin on her face.

"That's not possible..." Akatsuki mumbled. "Even if you were going to die.... What you feel and who you meet that becomes important to you is inevitable" She said quietly. "But... If you really are going to be okay, then I feel relieved, honestly" Akatsuki smiled softly at Chris, with her hand put gently on hers. "I really do apologize for my misbehaviour" Akatsuki said, disapproving herself of her misconduct. She knew very well it was unlike her to lose her calm and was sure that she would be scolded if her mother knew of her behavior.

"You see.... It's just that... Someone very important to me said the same thing. I thought that it would be fine to believe him and before I knew it, it was too late" Akatsuki explained calmly. "I really hated myself you see, if I didn't believe him, he wouldn't have dissapeared from me. But then again, he always dissapeared and came back in the end. I guess this time around... He won't be coming back" Akatsuki said, smiling sadly as she looked into the distance. "I really hope that I can believe what you just said. I don't want to repeat the same mistake again."
