High fantasy is my personal favorite, followed closely by modern fantasy and post-apocalyptic, but I can happily play in any genre if the plot is good enough.
The moon was high in the sky, casting a silver radiance over the grassy field that stretched out in front of a luxury Class A Camper Motorhome. Despite the lateness of the hour, the moonlight streamed in upon a young, dark haired woman, who was leaning with her hands cupping her chin against one of the windows. Her eyes seemed vacant, and clearly she was not actually seeing the rolling hills of Kentucky that sprawled out in front of her.

Reisha Bannon had been waiting for a clear night with a bright moon for nearly two months. Now that it had finally arrived, she suddenly realized that waiting for the night was no longer going to be an excuse for her. If she was planning to go, now was the chance. If she didn’t go… Well, then. She’d just have to give it up. Go back to the seemingly endless seances her parents organized, back to looking people in the eye and smiling as she lied to their faces, out of fear of their anger and hatred should she not tell them what they wanted to hear.

She shivered slightly, dropping her hands away from her face to rub at her shoulders, and the motion seemed to snap her out of her daze. She turned around, glancing at the empty room, her eyes lingering on a corner, where a shadowy figure stared at her. Rei’s eyes snapped away as quickly as they’d moved over, and she dropped her attention down towards her feet, where a mid-sized rucksack sat on the floor, fully packed, half leaning against her legs.

She’d turned 22 less than four weeks ago. By any measure, in any society, she was an adult, someone who could make decisions for herself. She certainly still shouldn’t be subject to the whims of her parents, and if she’d wanted to leave, theoretically there was nothing they could do to stop her. The police wouldn’t call her a runaway if she left, and her parents couldn’t force her to return.

And yet, if she was weak enough that she couldn’t even tell a lie to a complete stranger, how could she possibly look her mother and father in the eyes and tell them she was done with this life? Her mother would cry, that was for certain. She’d grown used to the comforts that came along with having a celebrity for a daughter, and the thought that this life might come to an end would certainly terrify her. Her father would take her mother into his arms and stroke the back of her head as her mother tried to sound like she wasn’t crying, but his accusing eyes would be directed at Rei. He’d be asking, silently judging, what kind of daughter would do this to her family. What kind of daughter would turn her back on a God-given gift, and abandon those in need.

That was why she had convinced herself that she should simply wait for a clear night, when the air was warm and the sky was clear, wait for her parents to fall asleep, and then simply take off into the night. Her parents might have needed a luxury motorhome to travel across the country, but she would be able to leave with nothing but the clothes on her back, a rucksack full of her most important belongings, and twenty thousand dollars in hundred-dollar bills hidden through her various belongings.

She’d prepared everything. Every night she had lain in bed, plotting where she would go, what she would do, telling herself that she wished it was a clear night. And now that she finally had the chance to do it…

She was a fucking coward.

In one quick motion, Rei reached into a side pocket of her pack, fishing out a cell phone and turning it on. The blue glow of the screen illuminated her face in a way the dim radiance of the moon never could, and for a moment she froze, straining her ears, fearing that the light might have somehow alerted her parents. But, no, that was silly. The light would never reach her parents, sleeping on the other side of the camper, and she could still her her fathers disgruntled snores. They weren’t awake. They had no clue.

Sighing slightly, Rei unlocked her phone, and quickly beat out a number by instinct. It had been over two years since she had last input that number, yet the motion still seemed as familiar as if she had done it yesterday. She swallowed slightly, before taking a deep breath and hitting the call button.

What was she going to do if the number was disabled? If some stranger picked up the phone instead, at 2 in the morning? She gulped, the ringing seeming to echo inside her head. And then, all of a sudden, the line clicked. Someone had answered.

“Allison,” Rei whispered, voice breathy from a combination of panic and quiet desperation. “Is that you?”

The static was held on the other end of the receiver and loud, blaring-- almost ear piercing rock music was playing in the back ground before there was a chuckle.

"Hey, this is Mole, Ali can't come to the phone right now because she's about to get banged by an Asian!" A young mans voice spoke before there was a sudden grunt noise and more odd sounds from the other end.

"Ali, c'mon babe...I was only joking," the man spoke again, this time his voice was concerned and distant-- as if he was far away from the phone.

"Shut the fuck up Mole! Don't touch my fucking phone!"
This time the familiar defensive spat was from Alison herself.

"What?" She asked sounding bored, this time her voice was crystal clear, there was a pause and a coughing sound, "what do you want Rei? Last time I checked you ditched me and my posse to hang out with your psycho fans...you know one of them punched me in the face when I tried to get to you?"

Alison held her phone tightly, waiting for a response; she had been hanging out with a bunch of people in the parking lot after seeing a live Whitesnake Concert and smoking some grass-- she felt safe enough since she at least knew one person there which was Mole, her dealer.

The beautiful woman felt the cold wind on her cheeks as she walked quickly to her green Ford Escort and sat on the hood; she moved her exotic purple hair aside waiting for some sort of response as she held her blunt, she decided to wear a cut up Whitesnake shirt with dark blue jeans, black boots with a black leather jacket over her.

The sack that Rei had packed for her journey had moved a little in a seemingly natural way-- however it was one of the most unnatural things to have ever experience because what most people didn't know was that Reisha Bannon had a powerful spirit tied to her...something that she could not control. His name was Joey and he was a lion in a cage, nobody could tame or control him...not even Rei herself.

Rei felt her backpack move as soon as it shifted, and reached down, almost by instinct, drawing it back up against her leg. Her fingers didn't fully release the strap as she straightened, eyes once more flicking across the room.

I know, she mouthed to the seemingly empty space, no sound actually passing her lips. She was supposed to be leaving, and the spirit that followed her would probably like nothing more than for her to have left months, maybe even years ago, so that she could have been out from under the reach of her demanding parents. Now she'd finally decided to go, packed a bag, gotten everything she needed, and all she was doing was sitting here, staring outside, trying to gain the motivation to leave from someone she hadn't spoken to in two years.

She supposed she was lucky that Ali hadn't changed her phone number, and it was clear from the background noises that little else had changed about her friend, either. She was still hanging out with the type of people her parents would have called "unsavory" on a good day, likely still high. They'd always been as different as night and day, and maybe that was why Rei had always felt that Alison was one of the few people she could really trust; the rebellious girl had always been honest to a fault.

"No," Rei replied, somewhat quietly. "I didn't know. I didn't even know you'd... tried to come see me."

Rei felt a stab of guilt at the thought, before biting the inside of her lip to try and quell the feeling. This is what she got for not speaking to Ali for so long. It was her own fault, Rei didn't even try and pretend otherwise. It wasn't as though she'd done anything to cut Alison off intentionally, but that was what happened when you stopped making efforts to communicate with a friend. They became less friendly. Even if they'd been your best friend, your only friend really, since kindergarten.

She took a deep, slightly shaky breath, before gathering her composure once more. "I know I've been... distant. But I wasn't trying to ditch you. Things were just... complicated." She almost laughed at that, because what difference did that make, really? Things were always complicated. She'd just hoped that Ali would have the understanding to forgive her.

"I know that's no excuse, but I guess it's the best I've got. Do you... want me to hang up?"

There was only silence as the rebellious young woman listened as she took another heavy drag of the weed, the only thing that could make her relax in this point in time.

"Bullshit," Alison snapped, "what difference does that make?" She'd ask as if reading her mind through the receiver,
"We'd used to swear in high school that we could take on the world...together, we'd beat the crap outta anyone who told us otherwise then run away from the cops, remember that? Even if we joked about that...it would have been nice."

Did she have anything more to say than a garbage apology?

She blew the smoke away, clouding her nasty but reasonable thoughts, she hated phone calls...she FUCKING hated phone calls-- she hated everything though; her mom, her new step father and her real dad...the one who died from that idiot drunk driver on a late Sunday night...if only she didn't ask for her favorite food, mac 'n cheese, the one thing they didn't have. She could of settled with peas or green beans on the side of their family dinner-- but God forbid no, she had to have mac n' cheese! And now he's gone, and she was left...left feeling alone.

"Stay right there I'm coming by," she finally stated and hung up before Rei could even respond and slid the phone in her back pocket before taking one more drag and from her other back pocket she took out a small cigarette container....with a sigh she opened it before snuffing the weed out harshly and placing it neatly in there and closing it with a snap.

The drive to her house seemed longer than usual and to be quite honest, Ali was nervous...they hadn't seen each other in so long that if she didn't call her or at least have seen her she might of thought she was a goner of some sort.

The car on the way seem to stutter and spurt a little and the girl reached her arm over and turned on the radio, the car was a piece of shit-- which all in all wasn't really true she just needed to take her anger out on something though.

Through the roads and the trees of this sad but gorgeous night, the rebel finally made it and turned her radio down and stopped in front of the house all together and walked out of the car slamming the door behind her before looking at the front door.
