It was not long before the rapidly expanding Alternian Empire was far beyond the reaches of its home planet. The military colonies that were established served as all in one military bases and cities. Life in these places is difficult; and often short, whether metaphorically, with trolls being relocated to new worlds or reconscripted into the military; or literally, with death a very common end for the inhabitants of these imperial worlds. The worst conditions, however, are found on the fringes of imperial rule, the Frontier Worlds. One such planet is the world of Sylvest, a heavily forested planet teeming with hostile lifeforms and deadly marshlands, all nestled within the dark, prickly woods. Outside, the sun has a nasty habit of shining brightly, meaning tearing down these trees is not an option.

In places like this, law is literally the world of your local highbloods, subject to change whenever they feel like it. Alternatively, you could end up under the thumbs of pirates or slavers, which is debatably better. In these situations, its enough to drive a troll mad. But complaining isn't going to get you anywhere. You have work to do if it's ever going to get better here. Here in the Frontier Worlds, work is the only thing to take your mind off how badly it really sucks there.

Info: (This roleplay uses many headcannons of mine about troll civilization and society. We are free to discuss what headcannons the group would prefer to follow once a group of roleplayers has been created) You are a new colonist on the recently conquered planet of Sylvest. Everything about this planet sucks, but get used to it, because it's all downhill from here. You'll go about your life and get caught up in the horrible situations that can arise on a planet full of tyrannical psychopathic rulers and vicious pirates. If you're lucky, maybe a great toothbeast will tear you to shreds for its next meal. What exactly your role is will be determined by your blood color.

Lowbloods
  • Rustblood (Unlimited Slots): You're a common peasant working to grow food for the rest of the population. You're lower than dirt on the social scale, and probably won't last longer than 5 sweeps on this world. Since your kind are located in rural lands, away from the superior blood castes, you're 10 times more likely to come in contact with a dangerous animal. Have fun out there
  • Bronzeblood (Unlimited Slots): Most likely a herdsman or some other kind of animal farmer. Since you were almost certainly part of a cavalry squadron in the conquest of Sylvest, you're kind are natually pastoralists, nomadically wandering out in the countryside, selling your animals and unwanted slaves-to-be at the urban centers. Slavers often come from this caste, though they are just as likely to end up slaves as well.
  • Yellowblood (30 slots): Your people are technicians and engineers. Well, you're industrial laborers, but that's not really a respectable profession in Alternian culture. Yellowbloods are the ones who keep the electrical and technological portions of the empire running smoothly. Naturally knowlegable, they are often socially inept due to the isolation and overtechnical nature of their work. Yellowbloods are often gifted with psychic powers at a rate even higher than other lowbloods.
Midbloods
  • Oliveblood (Unlimited Slots): Just a townsperson. You're most likely a shop owner or some other kind of townee. You might have a stable job serving as a part time militiaman, a factory worker alongside the yellowbloods, or even an assistant to your local highblood administrator. You can be whatever you want, so long as it's not anyone in power. That belongs to the highbloods, who are still better than you.
  • Jadeblood (5 slots): There is only one job for a Jadeblood. Making sure the future generations of trolls are strong enough to carry on the legacy of the empire. You will take care of the young grubs until they are old enough to be shipped off to a childrens planet to begin their trials and subsequent adolescent life. It is you who also meet personally with the imperial drones to determine mating times and oversee the collection of genetic material.
  • Tealblood (20 slots): The dreaded lawmen and inquisitors. Teal is the color of law, and all teal blooded trolls will take a job related to the legal system and legislation. The most common are the Legislacerators, the one man judges, juries, and executioners who put any undesirables in the empire through kangaroo courts and subsequently execute them. Another, no less important legal profession are the Threshicutioners, who dispatch of those who were not worth a public trial. A singly Legislacerator may have a team of 5 Theshicutioners, each one hand picked, to kill those who are simply not worth their time. Threshicutioners may be of any blood color.
Highbloods
  • Cobaltblood (20 Slots)- You are a minor administrator. Most likely a mayor or an owner of a company, you have considerable control over entire cities and villages. City laws and ordinances are under your command, and may change to however you and your superiors see fit. You answer only to your superiors, whether it be the local warlord, subjugglator or even the nobles themselves. Many cobalt blooded trolls will look for "alternative" work. Piracy, trans-planetary smuggling and slaving has been common among cobalts who simply do not want to deal with the bureaucracy that comes with administrating a settlement.
  • Indigoblood (10 slots)- The indigoblooded trolls are warlords and provincal governers. They are well known for their cultured ways, being educated in the fine arts, philosophy, music, and are often great authors and poets. The are, however, warriors at heart, and will not hesitate to show the furosity that their people are known for. Archery is commonly practiced by their ranks, but you are as likely to find them using swords, guns, and simply their fists in combat. When not in battle, they stay on their manors, dealing with issues affecting their provinces, and studying the great works of alternian literature.
  • Purplebloods (10 slots)- Purplebloods are a secondary legal caste, but not in the same way as the tealbloods. Where as the teals deal with civil issues, the purplebloods act as a (not so) secret police that enforce Alternatian national security with brutality that is unrivaled by any other caste. Those who are seen as traitors to the empire, rebels, usurpers, and other national threats are redirected to the Subjugglators, who promptly make them disappear for good, usually all over a wall. The purplebloods are highly religious people, and the tribal law that makes up basis for purpleblood life is rooted in the teachings of the Mirthful Messiahs. This religion is exclusive to the purplebloods, conversion is not allowed and rituals are closely guarded secrets. However, a purpleblood would never object to another troll living a life that the messiahs would call virtuous.
  • Violetbloods(5 slots)- The nobility. These trolls live underwater or in island fortresses. They speak directly with indigobloods and purplebloods under their authority to enact planetary laws.
Life on Sylvest will almost always center around the city. Even as a rust peasant, you will have to go to the city to sell your crops. The administrative capital of Sylvest is the urban hub of Dendra, build on the site of a shaded clearing. Dendra is home to many shops, government buildings, schools and military academies. Below the capitol building is the brooding cave. And around there are many temples and shrines to the troll's many nature spirits.

Trolls are not concerned with the squid gods who are said to have created their universe. They do not bestow a bountiful harvest, nor bear a strong stud for breeding. They do not keep the machines running and the shops bustling. The spirits of the land do. The troll spirits are as follows.

Troll religion is centered around Nature Spirits, the Spirits of the Dead, Ancestor Worship, Lusus Worship, the Cult of Death, and more recently, the Imperial Cult.
Trolls often leave offerings of food or crafts for nature spirits. They believe in bad luck that is caused by displeased spirits. The Nature spirits are the Fairies, sprites, etc. The souls of the dead are those of deceased trolls and animals that live on as vengeful and angry beings. Leaving offerings wards them away. Trolls also belive that the souls of strong quadrant mates linger around their loved/hated ones, and one should leave an appropriate gift for them from time to time.
The cult of death is the worship of Death (Lord English) and The Handmaid. Its more of a religion of fear and appeasement than one of a loving god. Trolls who have a strong connection with death or the spirits of the dead are very likely to be members of this cult. It is characterized by organized ritual and the existance of funeral rites for the dead.
the imperial cult is the worship of the empress as a goddess-queen.
Ancestor worship is not only the veneration of the troll's ancestor, but also the act of living up to their legacy and becoming like them. Vriska is a shining example of a devoted ancestor worshiper. Ancestor Worship also involves collecting artifacts relatied or owned by the ancestor.

So there you have it, a quick introduction to life on Sylvest. Have fun, and with luck you might just carve out a living in this hellhole of a world.

If you're looking to immigrate to this world (and we are not sure why you would want to) you'll have to fill out this document. Standard Imperial policy for moving between worlds, and especially to the frontiers.
