As Kira's smile returned to returned to her face Greg smiled as well, happy that his words had had the desired effect. But when she mentioned other people's reactions and that smile began to fade away so did his own. She seemed to get caught up in her own thoughts for a bit and Greg thought about what her life must've been like. It was obvious why she wore the gloves now, if every handshake could turn into a short film of the person's life. And if every bump walking down a corridor was accompanied by a flash of memories you didn't own. Then to be caught between telling people and risking their anger or hiding the contact and dealing with the guilt.
But to react badly to an accident, that wasn't who he was. And it wasn't who he would want to be. He made up his mind that he would be Kira's friend. Even if the other scientists in the settlement were uncomfortable around her he would be someone in Base-1 she could rely on. And hopefully he'd learn to be able to to talk to her for an extended period of time without blushing wildly. Or have her chocolate eyes on him without getting flustered. And avoid his parents or others getting the wrong ideas again and turning him into a bumbling fool. This might be more difficult than I imagined he thought to himself, just imagining those three scenarios, especially the second one, was enough fro him to feel like he was blushing. He could only hope time would allow him to relax.
As she apologised he smiled at her again, "I-It's really ok." he mentally cursed himself for still stuttering a bit, "It was an accident. You're forgiven." He realised the metal pieces were still spinning in his hand and he floated them over to the bench where they dropped onto its surface. "I'm glad to meet another person with a unique magic." he continued sincerely, "It's a very interesting power. I'd like to know more about it sometime, especially about the monsters in the wastes ... o-only if you want to talk about it." He didn't want to force her if she was uncomfortable with the topic, or if it brought up bad memories.
"It's pretty amazing that we managed to meet, isn't it?" he asked Kira, looking directly at her and doing his best to act like a normal person in conversation, "I thought you looked familiar but I couldn't make the connection earlier. I-I'm a little glad you saw that memory. I'm glad you survived." he realised how dumb that last sentence was and immediately shut his mouth. He blushed gain, knowing she'd sense his embarrassment. This might be impossible he thought to himself.
