The egg

He was leaving up to her, Kami tilted her head as she considered the wisdom of that. They were going to the human lands to find the dying man so she probably knew it better then him but she had never been there before, only stared at maps wishing she could. Then again, they had a map didn't they. She could figure it out, and if not she was sure a few detours wouldn't be an insurmountable problem.

"Can I see the map again?" She asked, a bit paranoid that they were going the wrong way already. They were farther north then her fathers palace and if they continued north-east they should eventually get to the border of the map, they should probably go more north than east, considering her father had men posted right by the mountains, they should probably enter the foot hills in the demon territory before getting to the mountains on the human territory. Just to be sure she didn't run into her fathers men.

Thankfully they were afraid of the mountains and all the rumored monsters on them so it wouldn't take too long to get past them.

Egle looked to his pocket and handed it to her. He was was a bit antsy at the fact he had to take orders from her. He did know that she was stuck in the mud with options, he knew that if she were to turn on him- the outcome would not be in her favor. But, he did have good senses that she wouldn't do that, knowing her determination and the fact she couldn't survive her way up the mountain on her own, let alone the fly/walk there. Egle was starting to feel like a big body guard for her... Manipulating him and he didn't know quite yet if he'd accept this...

When she went to grab it from him, he held on tightly before letting go giving her a fair gaze of second guessing. But, he knew that not giving her the map wouldn't lead them to anywhere.

"When you are done looking at it, I ask that you please hand it back..." he said. He knew that she couldn't scamper off without a map, even if she had the best photo-memory. He also knew it would be hard for her not to rely on him, if he had the map in hand the whole time.

Kami nodded but didn't address his obvious lack of trust in her, that was something that he would just have to get over.

By her best guess they were a few days away from the foothills and if they continued on the path they were on they would have to make a few side trips to avoid crossing the territories and running into human patrols but it seemed rather straightforward. She couldn't help but guess how far they were from the palace, it was instinctual for her, to look at the world in reference to home. They were a two day walk away from there, and only one day to the nearest village, maybe she could convince him to let her buy something else to wear, her poor gown was in tatters and the village was sure to have sturdier cloth then silk.

She handed Egle the map and sat back watching the fire, a part of her wished she could just fly there ask the old man where the stone with the curse was and fly home, and refuse to be married. That was the worst part, her father was the only one she couldn't get to do what she wanted, and he was the one in control of her life, or he was until she ran away and threw her future away, thankfully she had a chance at a different future, one that hopefully included flying.

"This path is the most straightforward, if we want to avoid human lands we'll have to go left a few extra times, but that won't add more than a day to the trip." She said and looked at the sky, praying that she was right.

Egle sat in wait from her inspection of the map. He watched as she read and looked at it closely. He knew and heard about the foothills that lead to the demon mountains, and figured it would have to be the same for the human territory. Egle glanced at the fire as she finally gave it back; he placed it in his nearby sack.

He listened to what she came up with. He hoped he could rely on her words for he was trusting a shifter of alliance... Something he couldn't just get over in a day. He felt a bit funny as he nodded, showing trust falsely, but knew the options he had were slim.

"Alright..." he added as he shifted a bit away from her as if making a clearing for him to lay on his back, placing a large sack at the back of his head. He relaxed and looked up at the stars above. He did not mind the silence, he didn't mind it that it felt like she wasn't there. The fact she wasn't in his view now made him at ease.

Kami watched him nodd and lay back, preparing for sleep. She sighed, he still didn't trust her. Then again what had she done to earn his trust? Read a map, what a useful skill in the middle of nowhere. She rolled her eyes and layer down beside the fire. Crossing that field has scared her, she had pushed her fear away and ignored it but now she brought it forward to examine.

A field had just tried to eat her, a field! Not even a normal monster, but a field. She still couldn't wrap her head around that, fields are supposed to sit peacefully and do nothing. Then again, she was in demon territory and had no idea what to expect anymore. The prince had power, not ceremonial power but running around unescorted power. Demons weren't any uglier that any human she had seen and her whole perception was wrong.

She decided finally that no amount of exhaustion was going to help her sleep, she stared at the sky and started humming a lullaby her mother used to sing to her.

Egle's mind was not resting well for him. He feared for the worse in finding his 'traveling partner' off on their own... But his mind was reassured by the woman's obvious intuition and knowledge of her own luck. He hoped the field had scared her enough, and had reminded her these were foreign grounds. As sadistic as it may be, he kind of had a kick with the idea of having 'fear' as a instigator in her sticking with him. He almost felt appreciative for once of his home-lands eco-system and diversity for it came in a situation, and likely the only situation, it had use for. Scaring the coots out of a willing hostage.

The humming began to seep through Egle's brain. Him, trying to rest, became startled with the unfamiliar tune the woman played. He scoffed to himself, figuring this was a method that helped her sleep, but this is for-surly not his cure of 'bed rest'. He glanced his eyes at the woman or rather the direction of her singing. Her humming in rhythm was not what annoyed him, it was the fact she was making a noise. Egle had gritted his teethe long enough to hear her whine and talk about plans he could never try to care about, but, at a time of rest it should have ended. He wasn't quite sure how to go about with it... How to tell her to be quite. He couldn't treat her like a prisoner, though technically under his presence she is, but considering what they're going through, her title towards his position is out of thought...

"Do all Alliance affiliation hum before they sleep...?" his tone was quite beneath her soothing humming. Egle figured the disruption with a rhetorical(Or for her not-so-rhetorical) question would either quite her or at least remind her that he was still there.

Kami had been so caught up in the song she had forgot where she was, if only for a second. She had remembered her mothers face shining above her baby crib as she sung the song. Kami tried to focus on that memory and see her more clearly but it was useless, too old of a memory for her to recall more then a lullaby.

She shifted on the ground trying to get comfy so that she might sleep, it was just as useless, a stick dug into her back uncomfortably and she had to turn again. She hummed the tune she had memorized a bit louder for a moment in frustration, but it didn't sound right so she quieted it again and felt a bump under her and resigned herself to the discomfort.

After a few minutes she heard a quiet question if all alliance shifters hummed before sleeping. She felt a smile come across her face at his obvious annoyance and figured he liked to sleep in complete quiet. At least she wasn't singing the words, that would probably annoy him even more and she didn't want to deal with him if he didn't sleep, more then likely he would bite her head off.

She quieted but decided if she wasn't going to comfort her spirt with the song she was going to get her body comfortable, she sat up and picked up the stick that had stuck her in the back and threw it away, then she picked up the lump which had been a rock and sent it to join the stick before laying back down. She wiggled, testing the area before she felt another stick and sighed before removing it and sending it to the other annoyances.

She felt the song wrapp her mind in peace even though she wasn't singing it and smiled, she felt like her mother was singing it to her, even as unrealistic as that was. Closing her eyes she tried to get to sleep once more.
