The egg

He had not realized the sudden burst of his horse jolting forward. He had to pull hard this time for her to stop, she slipped a hoof and whinnied loud. He leaned down to rub her neck in forgivness. She shook her head, unsure of his pity. Egle grunted in pure discontent, face mopped with a hint of anger. He got off his horse forcfully, grabbing the woman as lightly as he could. Almost quickly in a jolt. He glared at her with unemotinol express. He noticed how dirty her gown was getting from being dragged and the scars she had gotten from the fall... He felt a bit of mercy for the woman but still knew who she was, which was more evident than a meele fall. His eyes said sorry but his silent lips said other wise. He did another sound of displeasure jumping on his horse and taking the ride into a slow walk.

She is giving me more of a headache than she should. If she were a man I would not care, I would drag him through hell in back... He had argued in his head, nose flared and anger more noticable on his face now that she could not notice.

Kami nearly jumped as he pulled her up, almost gently. She sighed as he remounted his horse. This is ridiculous. She thought and stumbled foreward slightly.

"This could be avoided if you would tie my hands in front of me, or untie me completely." She said, hitting her wits end, being caught hadn't been part of the plan, if she were completely honest with herself she had planned to return eventually. Maybe scare them all till they didn't care if she was married and were just happy to have her home in one peice. Then again her father had always been imune to her pleading and with her current luck he would of gone ahead with the marriage anyways.

Of course at this juncture that point was mute, she was more likely to be locked away in a dark, dingy dungeon for the rest of her life, or at least till she was 21 and could never fly again. That point scared her so much she nearly stopped and tripped again. Her life would barely be worth living without flight. A few humans had envied the birds and tried to create machines that could fly. They managed to get into the sky but the effect was dulled by all the straps and metal surrounding them. They didn't know the pure joy of unhindered flight.

Egle rememberd back to the girls later comment, 'a salvation for all shifters.' He felt the woman more than likely has never heard of the actual story told to young-lins. He blinked twice before feeling himself un-stiffen, making him ease his mind and remembering to change his aggressive tone towards her. Knowing it'd save both their breath, fighting over going to the stone.

"I shall not..." he quarreled with a strict but much nicer tone than before. Trying to ease his nerves more-so. He knew that trick too many times, where people had begged him to untie them and retie them properly. Only once had it fooled him, the prisoner attacking. In the end, it was the escapee that got the blade in the gut. Egle didn't really want to bother with a possible incident; although he knew it wasn't likely she could do anything to him. Keeping hands tied like so made it harder for escaping, and harder for a shifter to look at their hands while casting themselves to shift.

"As for the stone... In the tale I was told the stone only works for one shifter." he made clear, glancing over at Kami, still disinterested eyes. As the ride kept going darkness getting darker he hoped that she wouldn't slip, for it would turn into a chaotic mess of his horse feeling sudden tug already blinded by no light other than few beams from above. He looked back and forth between the girl he could barely see and the path in front of him that was equally as visible.

"Try your best not to slip... Please." it was almost hard for him to muffle out the polite suit at the end. He was starting to feel the female gender was beginning to be his weakness, a bit angry at himself, but he knew he had good intentions.

Kami blinked, it was getting dark and her eyes couldn't see very well, at least not in this form, if she was in her bird form she might be able to see. Of course he refused to untie her or tie her better, she sighed even though she could hardly blame him. She was actually surprised at how honest and considerate he was being, if her fathers guards had caught him he would be dragged behind their horses if he couldn't keep up, if they didn't kill him immediately. Yet he was helping her up and speaking to her, maybe not kindly but certainly not rudely.

"But if the curse is centered around this stone maybe there is a way to undo it with the stone." she said, if she ever got away from him she would go herself, whether or not someone decided to help her, she was not about to give up hope, no matter what he said.

"What should I call you?" she decided to ignore her insticts and ask anyways, it was getting annoying in her head that she couldnt call him anything but 'soldier', besides maybe he wasn't just a mindless soldier, if he was he would probably ignore her anyways, it was worth a try anyways.

He heard the woman still going on about the stone, not helping his mind trying to settle about it. He breathed heavily and slightly shaky, he knew she wasn't going to give up this conversation until she had it her way. Egle thought woman were quite different creatures... Needed respect, and needed attention when demanded, the way he thought it. Though a woman has never gave him such a headache or grief as this one did. He had only made 3 woman in his life go to the jail cell, 2 of them had threatened to kill their husbands because of a misdeed. The other woman was an assassin, and all were quite and humble during long rides like this one.

He heard her ask for a name. He had sat and straightened his back a bit, not to be too formal but it was instinctual for a Demon Guard, even though he was on his horse.

"Egle... Just call me Egle." he said simply.

Calypso shook her head, probably pleased they had not stopped in the past 6 seconds, as they did in spurts earlier.

Kami nodded as he said his name, Egle, it sounded strange to her, but then all then all the demon names she had ever heard sounded odd to her, it was probably due to their differences in culture.

"Aren't you the least bit curious, what if he was telling the truth, that man is dying, he won't hold that secret for much longer." She said and stumbled slightly on a rock or branch, she couldn't tell anymore it was getting to dark out for her. "I can't see anything, how far away is this city of yours?" she snapped, stumbling in the dark was stabbing at whatever pride she held.

Egle was quite this time. He could not drop a certain point on his emotions. He was all the more curious but at the same time feels it wasn't worth exploring. If it was true, he felt it wasn't his place to go searching, defiantly not with a shifter woman of the humans.

"I don't know..." he partially told the truth. Keeping it simple talk, in hopes the conversation would die down for him to focus in the dark. His eyes were adjusted to this darkness, but it was hard when his mind was in two places. Egle grit his teeth as the woman already complained about distance and time. It had been only been a half hour since they began, stopping here and there not helping.

"It will take a few handful of miles ahead, 20 hours the least if we keep going at this pace, not stopping." he tried to estimate closely. Knowing she won't be pleased with it. Many captives are never pleased with the distance, but, it wasn't his choice to make them do criminal acts in such far off places.

She nearly gasped, 20 hours! Kami had never walked in terrain this dark before, she was about to complain and have a tantrum when she stopped herself, that was probably exactly what he expected and he probably wouldn't be swayed by it.

She decided not speaking to him would surprise him or at least give her time to think, getting away from him seemed to be impossible if he wouldn't untie her, her fingers were already going numb and she had to keep wiggling them to get the feeling back. She would probably have to escape when they got to his city. She cursed internally, she would have no choice but to shift to pull that off. Maybe when they stopped, because he certainly didn't expect her to walk for 20 hours straight, that would be crazy. She would collaps of exhaustion before they were halfway there.

3 hours later-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Egle and Kami have been in the dark for a while, but now that sight has adjusted to the darkness, the hint of light only made then squint. Egle had decided to stop to a stream on the side of the path, watering his horse in the dark. He still has Kami tied up, letting her sit and rest her feet for a while before they go off again. Egle sits by his horse, staring blankly into the water he only sees flecks of light from. Silence had fallen on the both of them for a while. He was a bit annoyed that the journey is taking longer because of the road show they got themselves into. Egle would glance here and there to Kami, making sure she didn't get the idea he wasn't focusing the reason at fault...

"Water?" he asked, which felt odd for him. Most of his prisoners would have done threat or murder, giving him logic not to give them anything. As for this woman... was his first that never made such a comparison in crime. He knew his offering and his overly kindness would of been frowned upon of his people... Though they would hopefully understand the situation and compromise of action. Disappointed his rank wasn't earned by something that wasn't so melee.

Kami looked up at him as he offered her water, "Sure." She might as well, her throat was dry and she wasn't used to wanting anything, usually she had everything she ever wanted. "How exactly are we going to do this." she asked, she had a vague idea but hoped he had a better one, the one she had would probably end with her soaking wet.

She considered asking again for her hands but didn't, he wouldn't do it unless she broke her leg and she didn't think it would be worth it. Then again with her hands free she could cast herself into her Summer Tanager form and having a broken leg wouldn't matter if she was flying. Of course the pain would hurt for longer then it would take to get home, that sort of injury lasted a year at least. Definitely not worth it.

Egle stared at her blankly before responding. He glanced at the flask that was empty, in case he ever stopped by the many streams on his paths.

"A way without me un-tying you." he simply said. He took a flask from the saddle and scooped it into the stream. He brought the dripping metal, portable cup to her mouth, he waited for her to lean forward on her own. When she eventually did, he brought it slowly to her lips and lifted it when she began to try and drink. He was careful but only allowed her enough to cure a dry throat and ease thirst. He pulled it away eventually after the fourth sound of her gulpping. He dumped the water out into the stream. He bent to one knee and filled it again. He figured this would be better off than to keep stopping at every stream they went, knowing with the one steep hill they have to conqour, Kami here, will be mighty exhausted.

Kami gulped thirstily, the water tasting like it came from the gods directly, too soon was it gone. She watched him refill the flask and hoped she would get another taste after they walked some more. She couldn't think of any possible way to escape without injuring herself and she had no pain tolerance whatsoever.

"I have blisters on my heels so please don't go fast." she said expecting him to curse her or at least glare, but she couldn't help it, if she had her way she would stick her feel in the water. She had no experience walking for more then twenty minutes at a time and her feel were protesting quite loudly in her shoes.

"Take off your shoes..." he almost suggested, if not demanded. He saw that she wore improper heels, something that also made him curious of her position. He glanced to her dirty, but rather pretty face. He felt a foreshadow of complaining and whining as they got up the hill, it only being her own fault for wearing such unstable shoes. . It almost reminded him of his sister, how her whole heel was covered in blisters and he had to mend it with grass water and ice. He pulled himself away from that memory, cursing himself for even comparing the two...

"The grass is always wet in the forest from moist, your feet will mend then." he said as he got onto his horse, tightening the reins and looked down at the woman. Checking to see if she'll take his suggestion, face of grief and no pity to the woman. He thought it was rather silly than anything... If she was to even plan a murdur, who would do it in such a things? He shook his head, trying not to think too much about it.

Kami had no idea how to respond to that, if she took her shoes off then she would have to leave them behind, there was no possible way she was going to be able to carry them the rest of the way. She sighed it would be better then walking with sore feet.

She pulled her foot along the ground and eventually the shoe fell off, she did the same to the other and tripped backwards. Landing on her butt.

"I can't win can I?" she asked rhetorically and pushed herself up off the ground and walked closer to his horse, "Can we get on with it." She was getting annoyed, this trip was going pluck on her every nerve before it was done, no matter how nice her captor was being.

He sat and watched her fiasco of taking of her shoes and falling on her rump. He raised a brow of slight annoyance at her commentary. He than had to smirk a little but looking away. As she finally came close to the horse he began to start. Off into more darkness they walk, path feeling like it repeats itself with turns, but brush changes once in sight of it. Trees tower over like pillars for giants, seeming as they go along they get closer and closer together feeling like darkness could go on forever. It would have been plain day, if one were to go above the tree tops or were to go out of the forest. It is amazement of how the plantation of fungi and grass can live with just little sunlight, for all the people know it is a possible spell, a spell that makes it never hungry for light and always parched with moist.

3 hours later----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After long strides and repeated turf of path they had finally made it to the hill. The hill had trees that opened above, newling trees growing along side them. Light had finally beamed above like big rays from the heavens into fields of different verity of flowers and floral brush. It looked to be a florists dream. Flowers miscellaneously everywhere, horse having to walke through the flower path that went up to it's knees. Egle had remembered when him and his friends had come here, when they first rode horses, it was their secret hang out... Now it is nothing more than a secret garden of childhood memories. Egle looked forward to the giant hill the inclining up infront of them.

Breaking out of the darkness, kami couldn't help but thank the gods that her eyes were stuck in her head, if they hadn't been they might of poped out of her head she was so stunned. She could see the sky with all it's glorious cloud formation and below that she saw flowers, all kinds of flowers she had ever seen and some she hadn't. It was a rainbow of colors in every direction and she couldn't take her eyes off it.

"oh my goodness." she breathed and stared, she almost stopped but rememebered where she was. "this is beautiful." she said and looked at Egle, "I didn't know such places existed." having never left the palace unless she was flying unsupervised she had never stood in a field of flowers only flew over them. Being to scared to actually land.

Egle kept Calypso walking past the amazment of flowers and sea of veriety. Egle gawked at the struggle in the road, a hill, it wouldn't of been such a big deal if he wasn't with such a picky child. The horse stumbled in the beginning before trying to get up the hill. She rustled her footing, before challenging the hill. The rope would have tugged much harder at Kami, the horse was now beginning to climb. She heaved on, ground and muck getting loose before her feet and almost kicking behind her. He sat with ease while his partner was probably in a bit of a pickle... Knowing this probably won`t end very well. Not for either...

Egle looked forward, feeling the rope tug and pause behind him... He knew that he couldn`t help Kami if she had fallen which would have destined all of them to doom. He had to keep going forward, if they were to pause any momment than the mudd would give way and Kami would possibly be struck by a falling horse. Egle has made extra caution for this to never happen, but at the same time he had reasonable prisoners before this...

Kami felt the ground go soft beneath her feet and looked down; mud. She would never of gone through such a thing if she weren't tied up, she would of flown over it, no even bothering, but now she had to trudge through. She grumbled as she stepped on her dress and she knew it was going to be muddy up till the knees or higher. She knew she must look like a disaster, after walking for hours on end and now walking through the muck, she surely looked like a bog monster.

she slipped backwards a bit but managed to stop herself before the rope when too taunt for her to keep walking. She cursed herself for getting caught with every step and when they finally made it to the top she collapsed on the ground.

"Stop or you'll be dragging a corps." She yelled forward, only a small part of her remembering that he was setting the pace not her. She looked at her feet, they looked discusting, covered in mud and her dress was caked with it. For all she knew she was completely covered. It wasn't that she wanted to look good, it was more that she couldnt believe she had let herself get this grubby. She may have ignored most of the rules her father had set, but for some odd reason that one had stuck. Not to mention it felt gross, she wished they were back at that steam, she would jump in and let the water take care of the mud to hell with Egle and his schedual, she laid on the ground and took a few deep breaths, she had never walked this far before and certainly not with her hands tied on barefeet.

"I wasn't made for this." She said to the sky, "Trudging through mud and walking for miles, this is worse then anything they could of thought of." She said the last part for dramatic effect, she still believed that loosing her identity would be far worse then what Egle was putting her through, but it was slowly becoming worse and worse.

Egle did not want to hear her complaining and moaning by the time they got to the top. Egle sat and gave his horse a few stroke on the neck, tired from the extra weight- Kami. Egle glanced at the apprehensive woman, talking too highly of herself for Egle to care. Egle stared at her blankly before giving her a few breaths. He started off again at the same pace before. This time he had started to wish such a woman was a man, give him something to bark at and speak harshly too as he could have many times. He kept his lips sealed out of manners and trying to calm the beast she had poked at with a stick.

"No different than a human..."he muffled in a very quite growl, in hope she didn't hear himself complain back. His eyes were growing heavy, fatigue was starting to kick in. But he had not slept until yesterday's morning and in yesterday's night he had to leave. He let out a quite sigh of thought, in hopes by the time he was there the woman hadn't turned into such a corpse...

Kami heard his muttered grumble and felt her anger rise, her exhaustion forgotten. "No better!" She yelled. "A human is worthless, useless, and they beg us to protect them when they make enemies, they use us! But Murati plays nice because-" she stopped, he didn't need to hear this, he didn't need to hear her complain about how useless humans are, but how dare he compare her to those worthless creatures.

"I fly, alright" she said and looked at the sky, "I'm not used to walking this far because I usually fly." she said trying to explain herself, she looked at Egle with determination, she was probably showing him her one surprise that might get her free, but she was at her wits end and she needed someone to understand. If only for a minute.
