The Dark Retreat

Selkirk Manor is no ordinary holiday retreat. Located in the wilds of the Scotland moors, it stands alone in the wilderness, undisturbed and far from modern day life. Its rooms are let out to those in search of a quiet holiday, but most of the guests are not what they seem. No, Selkirk Manor is no ordinary holiday retreat. Supernatural creatures - fairies, ghosts, vampires, werewolves, humans with unusual powers, all those people you only heard about in folklore and stories - get their holiday free of charge. Yes, they're real. Yes, they're here. Mortals beware...

Lua gazed up at the entrance before her, mouth agape, eyes wide. In one hand she clutched the brochure that had mysterious turned up on her doorstep one day, in the other she held her small black suitcase. Her family had encouraged her to come. She hadn't been able to control her powers so well recently. It's time to take a break, they had said. Take a holiday and meet some of our kind, they said. Stay at Selkirk Manor till you feel better, they said.

It was so... big. Behind her, she heard the sound of the crunching gravel as the chauffer that had driven her turned to leave the rounds. A personal chauffer! Exactly how much money did the person who ran this place have, to send someone to pick her up? The expensive car turned a corner and was hidden from view by a row of trees and the rolling hills, off elsewhere. The cool morning sun shone down and with a small shiver, she thought about what life would be like here. Were there other guests here? Would she make some friends?

Lua gulped, scrunching up the brochure as she lifted her suitcase and made her way through the unnecessarily large double doors.

Sarianna was a caster and the most powerful one in her family. She could do pretty much anything she could think of, though she had a hard time controlling her powers, especially when she was upset over something. She was sitting in the enterance room of the mansion. She had just arrived herself and thought if she stuck around, someone new or another guest would arrive. The place was as big as a small castle, and kind of looked like one too. She turned a page in a magazine that she wasn't really reading, and looked up when someone walked through the giant double doors and up to the front desk to check in.

Aria stared up at the retreat, her usually warm emerald eyes had frozen over and only deep sadness could be located in their depths. A cool wisp of air escaped her lips and met the air in a sullen reunion. This place wasn't home, in fact it was thousands of miles from home and without her constant escape plans of any use here she felt like she had jumped into a dark abyss to drown.
Her legal guardians (also titled foster parents who absolutely adored getting gifted children) had finally had a mental breakdown and sent her to a vacation after her latest 'incedent' ,though vacation was more for them than her.
As the car that had delivered her swerved back down the morning road, leaving her standing in peaceful solitude with her suitcase at her feet she again sighed. 'Now if only I can last more than a week..' she thought, still deliberating her first step to the place she'd live in for the next weeks.

She had come to this place only two days ago. She was an orphan child, her parents having died in a car crash at the age of thirteen. She had lived in various orphanages until she turned eighteen and then was tossed out on her own. She set the magazine down and got a metal spoon out of her pocket. She had often found as of late, that by practicing bending the spoon with her powers distracted her from troubling thoughts. She held the spoon and gazed at it with dark green eyes and it soon levitated to eye level. She concentrated on the spoon even harder until it started to bend ever so slightly, and she smiled in satisfaction. It was hard for her to control her powers, as no one ever taught her how. That was part of the reason she had come to this mansion, in hopes of finding a teacher.

Jake busted through the door and closed it behind him. He was breathing heavily. He looked around the mansion still breathing hard. He actually refused to move from that spot until he was greeted. So he leaned on the door. He then looked at his nails, hoping they were shrunken all the way down. He then felt his head for ears. They were gone. He was relieved. Jake was a bad-ass, lose canon werewolf...he just had trouble controlling it is all. He came here to find and tame that ability.

When a man burst through from somewhere in the mansion, Sarianna glanced up and the spoon clattered to the floor. She frowned and picked it up and walked over to him.

"Who are you?"

She demanded, still holding onto her silver spoon. Like most people, she found it rather annoying when someone interfierred with her concentration.

He looked at the girl who approached him. He leaned off the door and stood up straight. "My name is Jake Jackson. You can call me JJ," he said to the girl. He then rolled a shoulder. He noticed he was kind of in pain. He decided to hide it. "And uh...who are you?" he asked.

Jake rubbed the back of his neck. "Yeah....sorry about that." he said with a small smile. He rolled his shoulder again. 'I need to get that fixed,' he thought to himself.

She shrugged and noticed him rolling his shoulder and acting like he was in pain.

"Are you alright? Are you hurt?"

She wondered.

"Yeah I'm fine," he lied. "No worries...I have a question for you. Why are you here? You seem too normal to be here." Jake didn't know about ALL the different kinds of people who would be here, so he felt the need to ask.

At that she laughed.

"Oh please. I'm far from normal."

She rolled her eyes a little.

"Here. I'll show you what I mean...if it doesn't freak you out."

She smirked and pulled out her silver spoon from her pocket. She looked down at it and once more it floated to eye level. She conentrated on the spoon, working on bending it as before, locking the image of the spoon bending in her head. The spoon started to bend, ever so slightly before she felt her concentration waver and it dropped to the floor again. She sighed and picked it up.

Jake Clapped. "Hey that was still pretty cool," he said trying to encourage her. He forgot that he was out in the rain and how he was soaking wet. He then took off his shirt right then and there, not trying to show off his, what seemed to be, perfect abs. He quickly rummaged through his bag and put on another shirt. It was a gray tight shirt that said "Bloodfest" on it.

"Thanks. Glad you liked it. I'm not very good at it yet though. But I cand do a lot more then just try and bend a spoon."

She sighed and ran a hand through her blonde hair.

"Which is partically why I came here, in hopes of finding a teacher."

She said, looking away as he changed shirts.

"So what about you? What can you do? Anything?"

She wondered.

He smiled. "I'm a very powerful werewolf. Let's just keep it at that," he said. He started to stare at her. Sarianna looked kind of pretty to Jake. He smiled at her. "So um...what's going on now? What have I been missing?" he asked, hoping he didn't miss too much. "Oh and uh....where's the food?"

She stared at him for a moment, her sharp green eyes flicking up and down.

"A werewolf? Seriously?"

She wondered. She shook her head, putting that fact aside for later.

"As for what you've missed, I haven't been here long myself. Only two days. And as for the food..."

She pointed.

"There is an eating area down that hallway."

She chuckled.

Jake grabbed his bag and ran down the hallway Sarianna pointed out. He hit walls on the way down. He was starving. He hadn't eaten in a while. As soon as he hit the eating area he fell to his knees in joy. His eyes teared up. "Food....sweet sweet food," he murmured. He rushed to a seat and sat down. He ate like a pig...or like a wolf. When he was satisfied, which was about 6 plates of steak, ribs, beef, and chicken, later, he wondered about his room. He remembered the front desk, back at where he first entered the retreat. He walked calmly back to it, with his bag, and asked where his room was.

After getting his key, he kept it. He wasn't going to his room for a while. He decided to wander around first.

Sarianna watched him run down the food like a starved drunk with a raised eyebrow. She shook her head and by the time he came back to the front desk, she had gone up to her room.
