The title is how the Court Mage is recognized outside of the Court. I.E., "the Bound" or "the Spellweaver".

Tel me if I need to add stuff (which I probably will) or change things.

Name: Aella

Title: (working on it)

Apparent Age: 19

Actual Age: 46

Gender: Female

Appearance:
sorceress_by_aionlights-d6o1npt.png

Magic Branch: Sorcery

*Aella struggles to control the mount of powers that she pushes into her spells, the crystal around her neck belonged to her mother, it helps control the amount of power that she puts into her magic. Because Aella struggles to control her power she ends up being a danger to herself and to people around her. She knows that she is likely the most powerful sorceress next to the queen, but this doesn't stop her from developing new spells and making explosions.*

*Aella aways carries a sword with her in case something happens that she can not use her magic*
Sword-awesomest.jpg~320x480

Arcon's spell book:
Most of Aella's spells are passed down to her from her uncle, after he died, she kept his small book full of research, spells, notes, medical ingredients. In this book, all the effects of the spells (and how powerful each of them is), are written down, using this Aella can use the older affects and add new affects to make new spells. More of her uncle's notes tells her exactly where and in what circumstance she should use which spell.
nnk-spellbook.jpg

Personality: Since her early childhood, Aella was very independent and self-confident (not to where she could be considered arrogant), she always wanted to prove herself to others and was never afraid to make her opinion known this caused people to call her a loud mouth. As Aella grew older she started keepimg to herself a bit more, but is no les confident. Aella has little regard for rules and can step over the line a little to far at times. Despite all this she is very caring and would never dream of hurting someone without reason, she still has respect for her superiors even if she appears hot-headed at times.

History: Aella was born to a family of sorcerers that weren't very powerful. She was raised by her father, Zacon, due to her mother's death when Aella was only 6 months of age. Aella knows little of her mother because rest of her family never really speaks about her. At age 4 Aella started showing her power and talent in sorcery, when she blew up her father's library by reading a spell only once. After that incedent her uncle, Arcon, offered to make Aella his apprentice. When she begun her training Aella struggled to keep control, thia made other children say that she had no talent as a sorceress and that she was a danger to others. This sparked the want in Aella to prove herself to everyone around her. At age 14 she mastered everything her uncle could teach her. Aella never needed to say her spells out loud she need only say them in her head and it would happen, this is what makes her hard to predict. Two years after her training ended, her uncle mysteriously disappeared, Aella believes that he was murdered. Aella kept on training despite his death and does everything in honor of her beloved uncle.

Likes: Researching || Poetry || Writing || Reading || History || Friendly Sparring || Colorful Explosions

Dislikes: Hate || Suspicious People || Arrogance || Failing || Disappointing Friends || (I'll add more later on)

Fear/Paranoia: Aella has many fears the biggest of them are; getting close to someone and letting the down or letting them get hurt. Not being able to make her uncle proud and failing at what he had taught her. She also fears Mindmolders, but not up to were she can say that she hates them, she only lives by stories her father had told her as a child. Aella had actually has always wanted to befriend one due to her belief that they are only misunderstood, but the fear her father's stories cause pulls her back.

Reyn:
WhiteNinetailedFox.jpg

Reyn is fox spirit summoned by one of Aella's friends. He is wise and has been around for many years, he knows all about all of the magic branches. He is Aella's voice of reason, when she finds herself in a situation that she cannot solve alone she seeks him out for guidance.

I'll say this much: if all of the Court Mages played are going to be younger than a century, it's gonna make the Witch-King and Witch-Queen seem like grandparents. Still, I like them so far. For Aella, since she's a Sorceress, how does she "stock" her spells? I know you say she incants them from her mind, but I'd like to know how she prepares the spells.

Okay, I tried to fix it not sure if its right.

Name: Eslaine Avriana

Title: "Eslaine the Dahlia"

Apparent Age: 37

Actual Age: 568

Gender: Female

Appearance:
10ydsnr.jpg
(Credit goes to staino on DeviantArt)

Magic Branch: Earth-aligned tetramancy

Personality: Eslaine is an earth-aligned tetramancer, not a druid; she doesn't run around barefoot so that she can "feel" the earth beneath her feet, nor does she live as a hermit in the middle of a forest, or surround herself with plants and grow despondent when she's in a stone city. Quite the opposite, in fact; she loves the city and the city life that comes with it. She enjoys comfortable living and having a nice home near to an inn and a market, and would be more unhappy and uncomfortable if she had to spend weeks living in the middle of a swamp instead.

So, in many respects, Eslaine is quite progressive. She isn't afraid to shun traditions, especially if she thinks that they're just being done for the sake of it, or because "that's how things have always been". Living in a large city means that she does need to be careful when using her powers; were she to start summoning the earth itself to her aid then she would risk tearing up cobbled streets and pulling down buildings, so some of her spells are seldom used. If she feels the need to do some serious training, Eslaine will travel outside of the city and train in a more natural environment, where she can use her powers more freely, but this does mean that she may not be as battle-ready as other magi on the high court.

Having been alive for well over a century, Eslaine tends towards being rather jaded and cynical. As much as she tries to be progressive and forwards-thinking, she feels that the Witch King and Queen are holding people back by forcing adherence to the "old ways" of magic, but despite trying to change their minds, she's never succeeded. In a sense, she's lost interest in the court, turning up to its assemblies and gatherings late and only because she is required to, rather than wanting to be there. She's seen plenty of young upstart magi come and go over the years, either murdered by a non-magic wielder that they underestimated, or killed in a pointless battle that they weren't smart enough to avoid. As such, she tends to look down on magi that are a good deal younger than she is, thinking them little more than headstrong idiots with suicide wishes.

She's also a lesbian, and whilst I don't believe that this is a "personality" thing, this seems to be the most appropriate place to put it. She isn't a man-hating lesbian, but she does hate men that won't take no for an answer.

History: Eslaine was born to two magi, her father was an earth-aligned tetramancer and her mother was a summoner, so it was no surprise when she displayed magical abilities at an early age. She was sent to the local academy where it became clear that her father's abilities were dominant, and Eslaine was best-suited to becoming an earth tetramancer too.

Whilst this was where Eslaine's magical aptitude lay, from a social and personal point of view, it was a terrible decision for the girl. Earth-aligned tetramancy is considered somewhat "uncool" and its students are treated like losers. Being the only girl in her class, Eslaine was effectively the least popular girl in school and was frequently teased and bullied for it. Whilst the other earth tetramancers were sympathetic and tried to support her, they were also rather dorky and Eslaine never got close to any of them, leading to her becoming quite cynical and closed off to people. She also took to shunning earth tetramancy customs and, rather than surround herself with her element, she took to city living instead.

She was invited to join the court of high magic at the request of her former tutors, all of whom considered her a talented tetramancer and felt that having her join the high court was the only way to ensure that she continued to practice her magic. Their fear was that, without the high court, she would stop using magic altogether and become just another civilian. Eslaine saw it as a chance to improve things for herself, and future earth-aligned tetramancers, so she took the position when offered and immediately began championing their cause. Unfortunately, over time, such optimism has been crushed by the court's refusal to accede to all-but the most minor of her requests, so now she only attends its meetings when she has no choice. It's been like this for well over fifty years now, so to say that she's jaded about it all is an understatement; she'd much rather be drinking in the local tavern than worrying about what the magical community cares about.
Likes: The city, and all the hustle and bustle that comes with it. Clean living; her element is earth, not dirt. The occasional drink at The Hook and Dagger.

Dislikes: The current Witch King and Queen, "children" (which is a term that applies to a lot of people when you're over a century old). Men that try to hit on her and won't give up, even when she's made it clear that she's just not interested in them.

Fear/Paranoia: When Eslaine was being taught the ways of tetramancy, she was the only girl in a class of seven, and the rest of the males were basically Pig-pen (From Peanuts) incarnate. Most of them were filthy and smelly and horrendously dorky, which Eslaine wasn't keen on, but she accepted... The problem was that other students treated her as if she was just the same, and the other girls were very cruel in making fun of her and asking "What's that smell?" whenever she passed by. As such, she's got a paranoia that she somehow does smell, or that people are accusing her of stinking when such comments are made.

Her actual fear, however, is that she'll die without knowing love. She knows that she's getting on in years and she hasn't found anyone that she trusts enough to even think of settling down with. She wouldn't openly admit this, but it's a deep-seated fear that she carries with her.

EDIT: Age modified in line with Wolfsbane's guidance. (:

So, to somehow finish almost, for necromacy, I can only "call on spirits and ghosts for assistance" ?

Are tetramancer's limited to only one element? Because I was planning on having my character specialize in quite a lot :x

The first post does say that some tetramancers "combine" elements for "interesting effects". As someone with a single-element tetramancer, I may be slightly biased in the matter, but I'd like to think that my character will have a fuller mastery over earth-element spells than someone that has trained in a variety of elements. Unless, of course, your character is very old and very experienced.

It's the whole "Jack of all Trades" vs. "Master of One" debate.

Well since they're supposed to be the ten most powerful magic users I imagined they'd be able to master quite a lot.

Well, that depends on just how many other magic users there are, doesn't it? If the eleventh magic user is barely able to light a candle then there's not much of a contest. :P

Nah, kidding aside, I'm just saying that if you have two characters that are 100 years old, and one of them has spent their life studying fire magic, whilst the other has trained equally in fire, water, earth and air, then I would expect the first one to be better at wielding fire magic than the second, because of their lifelong specialisation in a single element.

Yeah, that's true, but what are the limits of mastering an element? If you've been specializing in fire magic for 100 years, will you be able to come up with new ways of using fire or have you already sort of emptied that subject?

Well, ahem, sorry to post it so late, I will try to add things, here and there, review my grammar mistakes and make the history. I am some sort of sorry that is not big and fluffy.
Still, I have some, sort of questions.
The other one will come eventually.
Ok, I give up with the spoilers. They hate me....

:: Magic Branch ::
Necromancy

:: Personality ::

In the eyes of every man that passes beside her she is the picture of decadence, death and defiance. Since a frail age she mastered the dark arts, but completely, was a true fight which she couldn't win as a living mortal. Lilith is a calculated person, never plays the same card twice. Is like the poison in your bones, slowly crawls underneath your skin, with a mad laughter she takes the last fragrance of life from your soul. If death had a sibling, she would be the one. Because she occupied her time with books, a lot of books about necromancy, her mind became a library, she can study very fast, rarely forgets something. She is not very sociable, not because she wants to be part of clique of necromancers, all dark and gloomy, but she doesn't feel like to exchange something with people, she already finds dead people interesting. At times, Lilith is arrogant and rude, very bold and straight. She is never afraid to tell mortals in face what she believes, even if that means to put an end to her sociable life. Somehow she is rather desperate to have friends, but at the same time she doesn't want to do something foolish and met death once again. So that's way her little babies make the dirty work and spy everyone, moderately. She doesn't want to hear something unpleasant and then to get in trouble. Because of the various rumors and mistook actions, people avoid her. She has a special sense for dead creature or creature that is near death. Because of the deal she made years ago she has to 'feed' with life essence, essence she took from living creatures. She judges people by their sins, or why did they sin. She has a similar thing like Grim Reaper and every time she plays with life essence, both Lilith and the person can see their past. She often gets a little fiery when it comes to life and dead, for her, ironically, this is a taboo thing. Lilith believes that everything it is in a perfect balance and the balance shouldn't be damaged by no means nor reasons. Her believes are quite similar with the alchemy that humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. But in death, a soul is equal to another one.

  • Attention-seekers
  • Meat
  • To drain life essence from a living creature that is not near death
  • Lose control
  • Being fooled
  • Being the center of attention

:: Fear ::
What she fears? At first nothing, but on a deep search she fears to be alone, to live alone, and to die alone. That no one knew her or she was just a walking shadow on land. A nobody pierced by the fate of death, killed by the cold hands of what she loved, despised death, but loved at the same time.

:: Paranoia ::
Lilith tends to examine everything that happens around and is somehow related to her. Unlike other necromancers she tends to stand out by the means that, she is quite, somehow, special. Fear the idea that someone might hurt her to get something from her, or to get's to friendly for a simple reason to bring someone dear or a lover. That's why she trusts dead people more than the living one, because if they lie she can shut up their mouths for eternity, with the living one there are more or less, problems that come along the way if she tries to shut them up for eternity. For her living one began to be simple creatures who breath, almost lost her faith in them.

I'd love to answer you, but I don't know myself! I'd guess that it might make your spells (even the basic ones) more powerful/longer lasting than compared to a less experienced mage. I would also think that there would be certain spells only available to those that had studied for long enough to fully understand their element? I suppose there's no harm in us making this up ourselves, unless Wolfsbane has any really firm ideas on the subject.

I've got a lot to read through. For ages, let me put it this way: the oldest canon Court Mage is almost 2,800 years old. Average age for the canon Court is about 300. I'll cover the profiles as I read through them.

EDIT: Eslaine the Dahlia and Lilith the Soul Reaper (can I say "Soulsower" instead? It rolls off the tongue easier.) are both interesting and, dare I say it, approved. The mages on the younger end of the spectrum will likely be lower in the ranks as well. Eslaine herself may end up the Ninth or Tenth of Ten simply because she doesn't like to show up on time. I'll wait for the other five to be posted before deciding who gets put where, though.

Yeah, that works fine for me, there's nothing about her that should rank her any higher than eighth at most. Eslaine's probably trying to get her rank dropped so low that she can stop attending altogether... :P

I'm going to go back and bump her age up quite a bit, I didn't realise that the average was so much higher than a century.

If you like, I'll either post or PM over a link to the doc containing the canon Court roster.

Well, I think we've got four (partial) applications up so far? Maybe a canon roster, perhaps with their disciplines/specialties might help anyone that's still working on a character? Even though I'm done, I'm still nosy enough to want to take a look at it anyway.

Hmm I guess I can't use the character I had in mind then... Bummer. Oh well, I'll see if I can come up with something else.
