The Configured

Opening one cabinet door, Charise beheld the rows and rows of bolted typewriters. They were of all centuries and styles, sleek to antique, wood-paneled to plastic. The words of the derelict echoed in her memory and lent further fire to her urgent heartbeat.

"The answer is on the keys."

The anomaly was soon apparent. The keys were uneven. On each and every typewriter some letters had been worn away by obsessive use. They bore the fading of sweat... sometimes the crust of blood... as if someone had worked upon them night by night till they eroded. Charise took a step back and looked at the panorama of devices. There was a pattern here... a code... someone had pressed those keys down, over and over again.

Behind her Chuck opened the door and looked out into the pelting storm. Charise knew she had to do something.

Gin made it only halfway down the basement corridor. The skinless creature ran her down, a wet and rancid tackle that crashed them both through cleaning supplies and boxes. The girl wriggled. She crawled for the light. But the horror was upon her. Bloodied thighs clamped either side of hers, and her hair was pulled back. Screaming, Gin felt something prick the back of her neck, a fingernail piercing skin, burrowing in the flesh.

She tried to swing her elbow back, but the momentum only doomed her. Twisting, she came onto her back and the creature straddled her again. The woman's gory arms seized Gin's and her weight was hot and suffocating. She screamed again, for but a second, before her cries were stopped. The lips of the skinless woman came around hers, and with that kiss she felt every part of her body go taut. A wet gurgling sounded from her lungs.

And at the other end of the corridor, as Charles and Kami reached the foot of the stairs, they would behold a sight of purest horror.

A woman, partially muscled, with strands of long dark hair, was straddling the skinless, bloody mess that was once Gin.

Her skin had been sucked from her body... and absorbed by Ray's beloved.

"GIN?! GIN?!" he was horrified. Blood.... Flesh... bits of skin. He vomited a little, His bile acidic and sour.
"What did you do to her?" Never taking his eyes of the ...creature... he motioned for Kami to go back upstairs. "Get the others...run." He reached down and pulled some lining from the walls off. thin flimsy piece of wood... "What did you do to her?" he repeated his mind refusing to acknowledge its existence,

The sight that lay before Kami left her traumatized, she couldn't even utter a word as her knees couldn't hold her wait and she tumbled back staring in horror at the now dead corpse of Gin and then that creature, it was as if it bore needles with it's stare.

Charles's voice was the only thing she heard as he coughed and threw up a little and then told her to run, for that instant Kami got on her feet and wanted to run far away, maybe even jump off the roof but as she stepped away she paused and turned to see Charles.

There was no way she was leaving him there,"Charles.." Kami called out to him and then grabbed his arms forcefully pulling him along, Kami wanted to run as fast she could, it's like the feeling you get, that the thing could be right behind her at every step.

"Chuck, give a hand with this would you?" Charise asked the man at the door. "It'll be just a moment before those three come up from downstairs, just wait until they've fetched Gin and then we'll leave, okay?"

Charise turned her attention back to the keys. `Maybe just pressing the keys in order from right to left?` she thought to herself as a simple solution and moved forwards to press the buttons in order.
