The Chronicles of Magic

So awkward... Why did he have to stare at her so intently? And the head tilting? What the hell was with that? It was almost like he was a child. She had half a mind to leave but the idea of a meal was too tempting. Damn mannerisms. She should have just dug into the food, even if she did end up looking like an animal in doing so.

But he suddenly picked up the sausage, cooked it, and offered it to her. That was her cue.

Almost snatching it out of his hands, Rose dug in ravenously. She didn't even bother to sit down, just chowed down while standing. The savory juices, and the texture of the meat was heaven. Absolute heaven. And she finished it in seconds. Without waiting for another invitation, Rose dug into the cheeses, the water, and even started eating some of the frozen meats. However she made sure she didn't bite into a thickly frozen piece of flesh. Her plan was to fill up, not end up with a broken tooth.

Once finished - the process would have taken about ten minutes - Rose's sense of reality kicked in. Highly embarrassed, she looked for something to wipe her face off. There wasn't a napkin nearby oddly enough, so Rose resorted to dipping her fingers into the water and used that to clean off her face. From ravenous animal, to a cultured lade, Rose was trying to redeem her womanly qualities. Problem was she wasn't sure if she was pulling it off very well.

She cleared her throat and said delicately, "Thank you for the meal... I uh, I...Thank you."

The sentence hung in the room, almost echoing. Rose had to fight off a wince.

What now?

"SSSCCHHHEEEAAAAAAARRGGRGHHHHHhhhhhhh..." *gargle* "Hhrrrrsssshhhhhh..."
The sound of the demon's scream echoed throughout the air like rolling thunder and finally faded as the sword drew the very last bit of the demon's essence and soul into itself. There was a brief glow as a seal took hold to stop the demon from escaping. Normal mortals probably wouldn't hear it, or maybe write it off as an animal call if they were open-minded enough to notice demon activity. If other demons might hear it, it would serve as a warning.

Dargaianor, or "Gaian" as she was known to her friends if she had any, took a deep breath as she leaned on the sword's handle, getting her breath back.
It had been a long battle with a very big, very mean and very evil demon. Her powers were almost completely drained and the darkness energy cloak on her back reflected this by its transperancy level. She inhaled deeply through her nose and finally took off her helmet to wipe away the sweat on her brow.
She needed to get back to hell to "deposit" her recent prisoners and replenish her powers faster to get back to her duties.

'No rest for the wicked' was the old saying, which meant no rest for her either.
Opening a small portal to hell was easy enough. She focused the energy from within and black streaks of smoke-like tentacles emitted from her hand to form the distorted shape of a door, revealing a dark and desolate landscape inside. Sorrowful cries and gut-wrenching screams could be heard all over to provide the charming atmosphere.
Stepping through the portal she felt a wave of new energy overcome her as she slowly started to regain her power. The portal closed immediately after her and she made her way to the deeper reaches of the realm of despair and pain.

Quite the place to call home.

In contrast to this morbid scene, birds were chirping their merrily songs and the leaves rustled in the trees of a small forest. To any onlooker it would seem that the forest was all there was, but in truth there was a modest cabin nestled a little deeper and nestled between the roots of three large trees. Next to the cabin was a cart that clearly belonged to merchants of sorts and a podgy pony strapped to it. All this was concealed thanks to runes laid out around the area to make everything invisible from the outside.

Joe was packing the last of their potions and scrolls while his twin brother Quain checked to see that everythign was marked down on a parchment. They had quite a good stock and would be able to make some good money at the shop.
'Got all of it?' Joe asked his brother mentally, thanks to their strong bond as identical twins.
'Yeap.'

They made their way to the main path leading through the forest and with their awareness out around them, made sure that there was no one else around. With the coast clear, they walked onto the path and they faded into view as they passed the runes' coverage radius. Nearby a deer had made it's way inside, not even noticing it had done so as it was not affected by the magic.
It was quite a while to the closest city and as they walked they enjoyed the good weather. It was a regular trade route and every now and then they'd pass other travellers and even sold a few items.

So far, it was looking to be a good day indeed.

Pheonix watched as she devoured the food. He gazed in wonder at her, wondering if she was eating that way because she was starving, or if that was just her cultural norm of how to eat. It had been so long since he witnessed another person eating that he honestly wasn't sure. After she finished, she began to start acting in completely different manner, going from starving animal behavior, to a more calm and controlled behavior. This just made him even more confused, as it made determining her real nature even more difficult.

As she was cleaning her hands and face off with the water, he turned his attention to the sword that she had been holding, and had set down on the nearby table before she began eating. He stepped over to it and took hold of the hilt and picked it up. He examined it closely, seeming to have a great knowledge of blades by the amount of detail he seemed to be looking for. Something about her sword made him very interested, though he still did not speak.

Aiden reached the towns walls and smashed though the walls before fleeing into the forest at a quick place shrinking to the size of a regular fox. He heard the townsfolk go after him as he ran through the trees to get away. Eventually the sounds of chase faded and he turned into a human once again. Wandering around for quite sometimes he looked for a place he could hide for a little while.

Slowly the leaves turned to a green, much different from the browns and reds he was roaming a minute ago. Curious, Aiden slowed a moved at a more leisurely pace to take in his surroundings. His nose caught on the scent of nearby people and he followed it to a mansion. Odd.. Why would someone place a mansion in the middle of nowhere? He quickened his pace aiming to figure out why.

Rose wiped off the remnants of her meal, keeping her brown eyes glued on the stranger. She was apprehensive about him touching her sword, only allowing him because he fed her. But as he was examining it, the blade seemed to realize that it was in the hands of someone else. It glowed briefly. Rose sat with an eyebrow raised.

"It's never done that before," she commented, gesturing for the man to give back her sword. "Thank you again for your hospitality but I don't wish to intrude any longer. If you would please give me back my weapon, I'll take my leave."

Pheonix continued to examine the sword, not reacting when Rose spoke to him. As the sword began to glow, he looked at it with intrigue. He kept looking over it after Rose finished speaking, and after a few seconds, he quickly gripped the hilt with his right hand and turned around towards Rose, bringing the blade down from above in an arch down towards her head. It was a fast, fluid motion meant to do exactly what it looked like, to slice through Rose.

The woman's eyes flashed as the man swung her blade towards her head. Suddenly, the weapon would flare, illuminating the room. The hilt would glow a deep red, burning the flesh of the holder. The burn he would receive would be enough to leave a scar. The blade however stopped in midair, as if refusing to move any further.

The air was still as the flare from the sword dimmed slowly. Rose stood staring furiously at the man with her hand still outstretched.

"... Give me back my sword," she said softly.

Pheonix tilted his head a bit as he looked to Rose after hearing her response to his actions. He casually pulled the sword back and looked at it again, then looked back at her.

"How did you manage to get this sword?"
