Centuries before the Paladin King conquered Gerhard and executed the Dread Emperor, another war ravaged the land. Known only as Demongate, this war raged for nearly two hundred years before a group of mercenaries managed to activate an ancient magical artifact and sealed the breach between the world of Malius and the abyss.
Fast forward to today, and the peace Gerhard has known since the Paladin King's conquering. Something is happening, and it can't be good. Villages full of people are disappearing from the face of the earth, and minor demons have been spotted roaming the lands. And behind it all, according to rumor and fear, is a shadowy organization known only as Nocturne's Fist. Nothing is known about this organization, this cult, except for their ties to necromancy and their dedication to their twisted cause, whatever that may be.
Afraid for his people and worried about the demon sightings, King Valner has called for heroes, promising any reward within his power to grant. Warriors, mages, and rogues from around the world have answered the call, and have been given their orders under the guise of the Sapphire Phoenix Mercenaries. Their only directive is to find and stop the cult causing these dark days, and to send the demons back to hell, once and for all.
