The Bird in the Cage

The boy waited for Lionel to walk away before he began to move. The mask clearly restricted the boys vision, yet he was still able to move around like he could see perfectly well. He picked up his boxes and began to walk inside. Before he did he remembered what he was told about the entrance. He looked up at it for about a minute before entering the building. There wasn't any point running since this place was heavily guarded and they probably had cars.

Once the boy entered he turned around again, looking at the entrance one more time before walking down one corridor. As he slowly made his way done a corridor he bumped into a group of guards. "drop the boxes and get down on the ground!" one of them shouted at him. "Why the hell is he wearing a mask" asked the other as they both pointed their guns at him. The boy slowly put his boxes down on the ground, then moved. He was fast. Getting to the unsuspecting guards before they realized. He grabbed the first ones wrist and disarmed him, sweeping out his legs as he did. He then pointed the gun at the other and shot. It missed. The sound of gunfire alerted others as more guards appeared. He knew that he couldn't win without using his powers, so he placed his hands onto his head and got to his knees. Man he hated this position.

Since they didn't know what his power was, they just escorted him to a random and empty room. He heard his boxes being chucked in and the door closing shut behind him. Once he heard the people leaving he reached up for his mask. Holding down two buttons on he sides it let out a slow hiss as it eased of his head. "Man that thing is heavy and annoying" he said to himself, dropping the mask and brushing hi hand through his hair

Things went to shit real fast. Just as Lauren finished her mashed potatoes alarms started blaring. She managed to catch a glimpse of the guard reacting out of the corner of her eye. It didn't take long for the recruit to point his gun at Lauren. Swallowing the food in her mouth the tall, dirty blonde dropped the utensils and placed the tray on her bed. Standing up straight she raised her arms.

She was taller than the new recruit. The blonde man stared at her, weapon aimed for a killing shot. "D-don't move. I won't hesitate." His voice seemed to tremble less as he attempted to intimidate Lauren. The only thing that had her worried was the fact that this man was pointing a gun at her.

Her jaw was tightly clenched as she stared back, swallowing passed the lump in her throat. "Like I said. I have no intentions of hurting you." her words were soft as the alarms continued to blare. A gunshot echoed in the distance. Lauren didn't flinch but her gaze shifted. The guard looked in the direction of the sound but quickly returned his eyes to Lauren. "Is this what it's gonna be until the alarms stop?"

She was curious, in all the time she had been within this facility this had never happened.

Annabella paced around her room quietly, thinking about how she was going to escape this place. She had been brought here a few years ago after her abilities had been discovered, and she had been trying to escape ever since. She stopped her pacing when an alarm went off, signaling that someone was trying to escape. "Well, now or never I guess." she shrugged. She was normally caught rather quickly, but maybe the guards would be distracted with this other prisoner. Quickly, she ran to the door and placed her hands on it. The metal door immediately started to grow hot and was soon growing red from the heat. Luckily, due to her abilities, Annabella wasn't harmed by the heat and continued to melt the door. "Come on, come on!" she said under her breath as the hole grew bigger. As soon as it was large enough, she climbed through and ran through the halls, watching out for any guards.

As Lionel ran through corridors--He figured it would be impossible. The place has surely changed and he felt like a rat in a maze. There was only one person he knew that the could strongly rely on, and thus he immediately began running and slid passed Jade's door--Stopping at the young woman's room herself. Lauren. It wasn't supposed to be like this--In fact, this was completely uncalled for and unplanned. Seemed like he had to face her sooner or later rather then run and immediately he opened the door--Startling the guard."Out." He ordered."Get out--Get out." Lionel waved, grabbing the guard gently by his shoulder and patting him out. The guard was befuddled as he left the room nodding and Lionel closed the door shut behind him, looking more at the white tiled ground than at the woman who stood in front of him.

"Hey.." He said for starters. The alarms were definitely more muffled and Lionel panted."Listen--i'm really really sorry." Lionel apologized deeply."We can talk about the past now--or the current situation. I promise i'll talk to you later if thats what you want.--anything." The male said avoiding eye contact. He was partially nervous and guilty and pondered off to the side a bit."This time I actually mean what I say. Please, please forgive me. Or help me now and then we can settle this later." Lionel concluded.

Lauren watched as someone approached from behind. It didn't take too long for her to recognize that voice. Her jaw was clenched even tighter as the tall, burly man removed the guard from her room. His nerves seemed to get the best of him as he avoided contact with her. Lauren listened to him speak as she folded her arms across her chest. Why was he here? Who in the right mind would come back to a place like this after successfully escaping? Unless they had called him back. The people that ran the facility probably had more than enough resources to find him, if they hadn't been watching him since the moment he escaped to begin with.

Sighing Lauren looked off to the side for a moment before returning her gaze to the tall dark haired man. "Why are you here Lionel?" She asked. "I don't mean just in this facility. I mean here." Lauren pointed in front of her. The only other person she had managed to create a bond with in this whole place and as soon as he had a chance he was off and never heard of again. Lauren had been stuck behind, continuously intriguing the scientists with her new advancements.

She shook her head with a scoff and returned to her mattress. Placing the tray on her lap she started eating once again. Quite some nerve he had. What was his reasoning? Did he come back for an apology? Had Lauren's cell been something he accidentally stumbled into? He looked like he had reason when he walked in. Lauren didn't want an apology, she didn't want anything from Lionel. She had felt betrayed by him. The woman had torn down walls for this man, opened up to him in a way that she never had towards anyone else. What did she get in return? Nothing, absolutely nothing. He just vanished.
