Unsurprisingly, Quinn agreed to go find the supplies with Clary. She knew it was too soon, but Clarissa couldn't hope that maybe this could be the makings of a friendship. Or, at least some sort of relationship where she wasn't viewed as a monster. Do these people even know that I'm a murderer? She wondered as the two began walking. Or were they never told about me, since I was in solitary confinement?

When Quinn asked her which way the supplies were, Clary raised a hand and pointed to Kris, who was a few yards ahead of them. "I heard he scoped them out from a tree or something," Clarissa said, "And he's heading to them now. So, I guess we just follow them." Past Kris, she could see the sun reflecting off of something shiny.

I hope the Ark didn't really put everything inside of metal boxes, Clary thought, beginning the trudge towards the supplies. It'll be way too hot to open those on a day like this. Unless throwing water on them would cool them off...

She paused upon hearing her name, turning to see Hal talking to her old friend Adam. Because of the distance she couldn't really hear what he was saying, but she got the gist. Hal wanted Adam to go with them. Great, Clary thought, rolling her eyes and continuing forward. Already, she was getting annoyed with Adam's flirtatious attitude towards every female he encountered. Some boys just don't know how to control themselves.

Clary's hands reached up to her short brown hair, huffing as she wished she had a hair-tie. On the Ark she never had to worry about her hair making her too hot, but down here it was already becoming an issue. She bit her lower lip, eyes focused on Kris and the supposed boxes the whole walk. She thought about striking up a conversation with Quinn, but decided against it. She didn't really have anything to talk about.

Before too long, they caught up with Kris at the boxes. Just as she had feared, they were made of metal. She knew that there wasn't really anything else the Ark could have made these boxes out of, except for some wood even though that was limited on the Ark, but she was still upset to see they were metal. Curiously, she reached out and touched it, instantly drawing her hand back. "They're too hot," she stated the obvious. "Now what?"

Ragah: "You're always the fierce one, Rhea."

In spite of herself, Rhea's attention was caught by the whisper in her ear. She could feel her face heating up, and could only hope that her cheeks weren't tinted red. She could explain that she had to be fierce, but he already knew that. Besides, Ragah's tone and smirk led her to believe he meant it in a more teasing and playful way than anything else.

Luckily, before she could get too involved in her thoughts, their captive spoke up. She took note of his sudden fierceness, as well as his improved speech. An act? She wondered, squinting at him. She didn't appreciate being made a fool of, especially by someone as low of a class as a loner.

Ragah and Bastianna left together, haven been given orders to defend their people. She wished she was given the same orders, rather than having to babysit the loner who may or may not be a threat. Her eyes followed Baldur carefully as he knelt down before the loner, offering his name and asking for the same.

Before Rhea could get too bored, Esme spoke to her. At first her only orders were to fetch some food, and she was deeply disappointed, but then Esme added that she should see to the defenses of the village. A smile spread across her lips as she lowered her sword, finally, and nodded. "Of course, Esme."

It didn't take long for Rhea to gather the foods Esme had asked for and returned quickly with them. The coconut, bananas, nuts and carrots were all in a wood woven basket, but the melon would not fit, so Rio would just have to carry those himself. She moved quickly, before Esme could change her mind and have her babysit again, grabbing her bow and twelve arrows before heading out of the Temple of Knowledge.

Before anything else, Rhea calmed down the people who had gathered outside of the temple. "Remain calm," she ordered, her voice even and proud. "I need all women and children to return to their huts. I'll also need at least one man per each hut, though we are not in any danger as of right now. These are just precautions. Please stay in your huts until further notice." She looked around the group once before dismissing them. "Go! And tell anyone you pass!"

Then, she continued to the posts of Bastianna's warriors. She wasn't surprised to see that Bastianna had already ordered them to their positions, but did notice that a few were empty. Even someone as great as Bastianna cannot control all her warriors. Sighing, Rhea decided to take over a post herself, where the gap was the biggest.

Although her expression was serious, Rhea had never been so excited. This is what she was raised to do: defend her people. And if it came to it, she's die doing just that.

All logic told Maeve to steer clear of the strangers, but she simply couldn't peel herself away. They wore funny clothes, explored as if they'd never seen a beach, and even fought funnily. Everything they did intrigued her, especially the actions of the would-be warrior (Hal). Her eyes followed him as he met a female coming out of their odd ship, a young boy in tow.

How old are they? She asked herself, eyeing the young child. He can't be much older than eleven cycles. Possibly twelve. She found herself wishing she could hear what they were saying. I could move closer.... no! Mind your curiosity, Maeve, you don't need to die today. Who knows how dangerous they are.

But, they didn't seem dangerous. In fact, they were about the most harmless bunch of human beings she had ever laid eyes upon. She knew toddler grounders who presented more of a threat than these people. Or, at least, she knew toddlers.

Should I be warning the villages? She wondered, looking over her shoulder in the direction the temple was in. No, they must have seen them drop from the sky. If fact they've probably already got people heading out to scope out the place...

She looked around on the ground, and sure enough some movement caught her eyes. She recognized Bastianna and Ragah, though their names had long since been forgotten. She followed her gaze to the strangers by the metallic boxes. She had noticed them several days before, though she hadn't attempted to tamper with them. Actually, during the day they got so hot she could cook her fish on them, but that was about all she used them for. Speaking of fish...

Damn, she thought, her eyes flickering to where she stored her dinner. Had she known how many strangers would come from the ship, and how quickly they were going to spread out, she would have brought her fish with her. But, he dinner was now gone, because there was no way she could retrieve it unnoticed. And, to top it all of, they had landed on her favorite beach to fish in. It was the least dangerous of all he beaches, and now she'd have to go through much more dangerous extremes for a meal.

That's just great, she thought, gaze subconsciously shifting back to Hal. Of all the reefs they could have landed near, it just had to be this one.

Fifteen, not much younger than me. Sly watched as the kid spoke of his plan and began to walk back on the path leading to the group. Benji had good intentions, but he was not thinking like he should. Maybe somewhat simplistic. I don't think that he has the ability to survive on his own; he doesn't look that strong. On the other hand I have no clue about who he is, so I might be surprised about what he can do. Hmmmm, It wouldn't hurt to stay with him. We can help each other because I'm not definitely not perfect. ... Alright, I'll stay with him. He's also one of the few that hasn't annoyed me or given me a headache. With all that in his mind, Sly walked behind Benji on the path. "16." Sly replies to Benji's question. "I have decided to stay with you. I feel like we will be able to benefit from each other."

Esme:

"Yes, you may go," Esme replied to Rio. Once his arms were loaded up with the food, Esme went and picked up the gun. A part of her balked at the idea of giving it back to him. It was a thing of the Consumers, its stark, utilitarian brutishness emblematic of everything she knew about their society. It was not a weapon, not like the weapons her warriors carried. Those had been crafted by the warriors themselves, or their predecessors, and were lovingly maintained, decorated, even revered, and practiced with in ways that were as much art as science. No, this gun was a machine for dispensing death, stamped out by other machines along with countless thousands or millions of identical others. It bespoke a time when war was not a matter of honor and courage or even of hate and brutality, but of cool industrial efficiency and massive scale. Men who calmly consulted balance sheets and planning scenarios before pushing buttons to unleash destruction upon cities of millions, and poison the whole world for the foreseeable future. Furthermore, what if he killed any of her people with it?

On the other hand, if she didn't give it back, there would be the time wasted arguing with Rio as he pleaded for or demanded its return. He would become an enemy in a time when her people did not need any more of those. She placed the gun in Rio's semi-free hand. It's a relic, she reminded herself. Like a fang in the bleached skull of some long-dead monster. It will be a fancy club soon, if it isn't already. He can't make new shells for it, and who knows if the ones he has are even any good? There are living Consumers out there now, with new guns, and the will to make more. And Rio has as much a right and need to protect himself from them as anyone. "Go in peace, and please stay safe," she said gently.

With Baldur at her side, she followed him out of the Temple and watched to see that he left without incident. Once he was gone, she went to find Rhea, glad to see the defenses were quickly coming to order. "Rhea, please have the crafters begin making components for traps and snares, we will need many. And arrows, and throwing knifes, and spears. We must be prepared for the worst."

Viaeny:

Viaeny felt relief wash over her as it seemed that Sanity Would Prevail, at least for now. A couple of the older kids even agreed with her. Which felt pretty good, actually. Then one of them broke her bracelet off.

She rose her wristband into the air, showing for the first time that she was no longer restrained by the Ark's influence. "One less way for them to control us. No more contact, no more monitoring. The blasted things stopped working anyways." She released her grip on the wristband, letting it fall to the sand.

"Do you think that will work, Sabine? Give us more power without the wristbands on?"

"Hypothetically, yeah. It may not be a direct attack on the Ark, but it's resistance."

"That...is actually a pretty good idea!" Viaeny said. "Except, we'd better decide if and when and how to go about it at the meeting, and after we've found out more about this island. Like, is there fresh water, is there anything here that can hurt us? Poison bugs? Disease? If these things," she said, gesturing with her bracelet "are for monitoring us, like our vital signs and stuff, then when we take them off, no more vital signs, and the Ark thinks we're dead, right? So then they might decide this place isn't safe and go land somewhere else or something. But, all our best-trained doctors and engineers and farmers are up there, and...not everyone's gonna want their parents thinking they're dead.

"So before we decide to pull this trigger," she said with a tap on her bracelet, "we'd better be sure we're not gonna need them here in order to survive. Is anybody here good with electronics? Like, is there a way we could rig up a radio to broadcast to the All-Ark channel? So maybe we could have another option, like talking to the people up there, to convince them to join our side instead of the Council's. Radio Free Earth!"

She was also able to catch that Hal asked Adam to actually join both Clarissa and her in order to retrieve the supplies. She tilted her head backwards, glancing at both Hal and Adam before turning around. She was a bit unsure how to act around the boy who complimented her earlier, but then again, things were quite different now than back in the Ark. Once Clarissa told her where or who know about the supplies, she diverted her attention towards the said direction or towards the person who knew where they were. "Ah, okay.. Lets do that.." She agreed.

The sun was shining quite brightly and narrowed her vision down. Placing her hand above her eyes to block the sunlight so she could see the path before her, they ventured inside the forest. It was quite awkward that neither of them struck or started a conversation, but before they knew it, they were already by the supplies. The neccessary supplies were inside the metal boxes, who were getting more than enough heat from the sun.

Clarissa had already approached one of the boxes as Quinn stood back. The sound escaping the former's lips made the latter curious. They were untouchable, or at least for now. They were too hot. "Maybe we should wait until the sun goes down? Or perhaps bring some water from the beach? By the dropship?" Quinn suggested, referring to the water at the beach. After a few seconds she started to explore the area around the supplies, picking up a small branch from the ground for no reason.

"Do you have any ideas, Clarissa?" She asked, before her curious mind got the best of her. She also approached the metal boxes and touched it slightly and noticed that it was really hot. "You're right though.. They're too hot..."

Quinn thought that perhaps bringing something similar like a tool or anything from the dropship that could pry open the boxes without touching them would be better. "Maybe we can ask someone to get something to pry them open?" It all depended on whether they would wait until night or try anything to open them up right now. Perhaps the latter was the better option since they needed them to survive. The food and anything that could keep them nurtured for the day.

There wasn't much for him to say to the boy they had captured, however, he was about to get released, that much he could figure out judging by the way their commander was acting. His demeanor was quite normal, before he gazed at the boy. A few seconds later, he diverted his attention to the General, Bastianna. "As always, I'll be by your side." He stated, before the both of them left the Temple of Knowledge. It was time to see what the consumers were made of.

Once the warriors were settling and fortifying the village, they left it in their hands and walked through the forest until they reached their destination. Ragah's eyes were quite focused on what was before him. He, like Bastianna, was hidden deep in some brushes. They were easily blended in. "It was the right call to observe them, Bastianna." He referred to the little suggestion she made back at the Temple. Glancing over at her and another warrior who decided to come with them, he looked back at the area that had the supplies.

A few consumers were there, and some were females while some were not. "What do you want to do?" He asked his General, awaiting a response.

Benjamin Gegenheimer

Benji was pushing a leaf out of the way as he continued to walk throughout the woods with Sly. Then he was half listening to Sly as he heard something quickly ducking down he signaled to Sly to do the same as he looked around. "Cool, but did you hear that?" He whispered thinking back seconds before to the sounds he heard, although it was just win Benji's mind ran rampant thinking of all the possibilities. Quickly Benji elevated himself ever so slightly as he scanned his surroundings once more, it was better to be more cautious in a place like this then not cautious at all. While he was on the ground he tripped a little falling into the grassy ground of the forest. He realized he never actually felt the grass and thought about it instead he dug right through it to get to the dirt. It felt funny to him as he knew what plants felt like but the grass just felt..different to him. "So we're sticking together but we better get to the supplies either before anyone else does or while others are there we don't want everyone to take it all" He said as he got back up completely forgetting about the sound he heard and the feeling of the grass rather thinking of how to survive.

Lyndsy Rose

Lyndsy made it back to the landing site as she realized most people were gone, after the long walk on the beach she realized they had probably went for the supply crates. Instead of helping with them she might as well get them supplies as she had been doing, going into the forest she walked along the rich soil as she looked around this was Earth this is where her relatives lived before. Why would anyone ruin such a beautiful place she thought as she picked up another branch. Looking around she saw a tree with tons of vines hanging down. Taking a branch she tied the one end of the vine around her branch and pulled ripping one off of the tree. She continued to do this till she had a nice set of vines and branches walking back to the beach she realized these branches would be better for a floor as they weren't tall enough or long enough for walls or a roof. She started to go through ideas of what to do with her building ideas. Settling on trying to use the leaves on top of branches for the roof to prevent leaks from rain and using branches as walls with vines to tie them together and when the vines dried out they would tighten making the structure more steady. She had this all planned out but she didn't have the materials as she sat down defeated. Living on earth wasn't going to be easy it was going to take a lot of work.

tumblr_mrj64ktAK01s699ido1_400.jpg

tumblr_mlpycaGCSA1r7fcmvo1_500.jpg

The path back to the main site was uneven and had a few small obstacles. Movements varied from leaping over big roots from the trees, clearing hanging big leaves out of the way, and detangling from vines scattered all over the area. After a while of walking, Sly began to make a game out of the area and he was enjoying it a bit too much. Although his amusement was mainly internal, as his outside expression wasn't showing much amusement besides a slight smile.

He suddenly stopped the hidden game and ducked as Benji showed caution of potential nerby threat. Before he was fully ducked, Sly took a quick glance around the area but it was not very effective. The area was thick and blocked his field of vision. "I wasn't able to see if anything was near us. Maybe it was something scurrying from us." Once Benji concluded that it was safe, or strayed from the thought of there being a sound, Sly stood up.

An amused smile appears on Sly's face when he sees Benji trip. It wasn't a serious fall that would cause any damage so Sly thought it was fine that it was amusing and it was still courteous to ask. "Are you alright?" Sly noticed that Benji was thinking about something while on the ground and feeling the grass. However, it may be something personal so Sly decides not to say anything. Instead he waits for Benji to get up or make the next move. "Yes, we have to hurry in case the others have made their move towards the supplies. That is, if they haven't killed each other yet over who will be the leader." Sly chuckles at the statement. He continues talking after he gets serious. "I'm following you, so whenever you are ready we can head out."

Calixto Barnaby Quinn
tumblr_n0xe8njIBt1r3r6iao2_r1_500.gif

Cal ignored the rest of the teenagers speeches, so far he had made at least five enemies, that's more then he has friends, well if you count his rebellion huge group of misfits. "Okay groupies, we will be back with food, well at least someone is being productive today." He rolled his eyes as him and at least two dozen men boys and girls, the rest of his loyalists stayed to help hold the ship down. "Alright boys and girls, now we are off." Cal walked away from the group as the many misfits walked through the trees and bushes. Earth was beautiful, even with his arrogance and his jerk attitude, he couldn't help but be mesmerized by the scenery around him, there were trees and everywhere you looked would see palm trees and grass all over the ground they stepped on.

As Cal stopped to breath the air he didn't get to admire since he got on the ground, noticed a familiar face walking with the crowd, it was Katrina who had her arms crossed and looking quite enjoyed, so Cal walked to the back of the large crowd of people and stopped till he got to Katrina and kept walking beside her. "So your Katrina right? Thanks for having my back, back there, names-" Katrina interrupted Cal mid sentence. "Calixto, i must of heard your name a hundred times back at the site, i was just try- You know what never mind." Cal raised his eyebrow unable to make since of what she was about to say. "So you have a brother right, what's his name, Braydon?" Katrina shook her head. "Hayden. So uh didn't see you around the station, which one were you?" Cal smirked then answered. "I was in solitary confinement for four years, i barely remember the last time i was in a station, all i know is that the place sucked."

Katrina Lindsay Keller
tumblr_nmn1a3PwMT1qk8rxto3_500.gif

Katrina kept socializing with Cal as the group walked through the grass, she was then stopped by something she never heard before, yet it sounded beautiful and peaceful, she stopped walking and made her way past the trees till she saw a small, brown bird sitting on a tree, she had only been taught about it by her brother, Hayden who sat on the other side of the cell teaching her about the history of the earth and different subjects he learned or was learning. Cal noticed a few seconds after he was rambling off about how he hated Hal and the other people who disobeyed back at the campsite.

Katrina walked slowly up to the bird, but then stepped onto a stick which cracked in half, the birds head turned and flew straight over to Katrina. It's mouth grasped on tightly and painfully to her nose, Cal heard a scream and ran over to her. The bird made her trip and fall off balance causing her to fall to the ground, but the birds gums still latched onto her nose, Cal at the nick of time to stop the bird of causing any more damage. Cal grabbed the bird by it's tail and threw the bird off her face, Cal then aided to her wound. "My God are you alright? What was that?" Katrina groaned and squealed as she held her nose. "I think it was some bird of some kind." Cal went to touch her nose, but Kat pushed his hand away. "I'm alright, but it hurts like Hell."

Cal helped Katrina up as the group noticed the two were gone and went to find them, then two men call out to the rest of the group to tell them they found Kat and Cal. "Hey what the Hell happened?" One of the guys asked. "Some animal came and bit Katrina on her nose." The two looked surprised in shock. "It hurt like a b**ch." Katrina complained and tried to touch her nose to feel if it still hurt. "God i didn't think there were any animals left, well when we get back we could have your brother look over it." Katrina smiled and nodded. "Alright lets get a move on." Everyone started walking, but Kat heard a weird noise coming from somewhere close, she felt a shiver down her spine, there she knew she was being watched. "Hey you coming?" Cal asked as he rested his hand on her shoulder, Kat turned her head quickly still feeling weird about something. "Yeah, let's go."

Hayden looked at Sabine as she grabbed a hammer, he wasn't sure what she was about to do so Hayden backed up. "Don't ever try this," Hayden watched as she bashed the wristband, then smiled when she pulled it off. "Wow how did you do that?" Hayden was surprised that she pulled it off and even got it off, since he wasn't a tech guy. "Come with me, we're going outside," Hayden agreed to Sabine and followed her out of the dropship, he smiled brightly as he felt a breeze through his hair, it was beautiful. "It's...Everything i hoped for, and more!" Hayden said excitedly, as he stopped to enjoy the outside, he noticed Sabine walked off and followed her.

"No thanks to him," Hayden smiled at Sabine when she spoke. "My little doctor." "Thank you for tending to my friend. You were a great help." Hayden nodded and thanked him. "Yeah it was no problem, just make sure she doesn't move around a lot, she shouldn't be running around everywhere or she'll probably rip her stitches." He listened to the two, but then heard Viaeny speak, so his attention was then pointed towards her. "Well i do know someone that looks like he knows his way with technology, i was talking with him, he's inside the dropship." Hayden's attention was changed toward another male standing near the entrance with a radio.

  • We are starting up after the 100 have been on the ground for a week. I've put the main thing you need to know here, there's just more detail in the spoili's

The 100- Many people have died the past week, and there is still no leader. Tents have been set up, and for the most part everyone has to share a tent. They're still learning how to survive.

[spoili]They have landed on the ground, and have been there for a week. he 100 has opened up the boxes and, while they have not left the beach much, they have pitched tents and established where everyone sleeps. Their main struggle as of now is that a leader has not been chosen yet, and his causes things to be chaotic at times.

One evening in the past week it began to rain, and at first the 100 danced in the rain. That was until their skin began to burn, and they realized the rain was actually some kind of acid downpour. Quinn, Sabine, Kristopher, Adam, Katrina, Hayden and Hal were all out looking for food when the rain started, and were not able to find shelter before they died. Some of the 100 grieved, but because most of them are criminals who only care of themselves the grieving period was very short.[/spoili]

The Grounders- The Grounders are ready to reveal themselves, because they want to handle the 10 already. It's up to Esme (their leader) to decide how to proceed. Many lives have been lost in the past week, and so many Grounders are angry and mourning.

[spoili]They still have not revealed themselves to the 100 intruders. As each day passes the Grounders in the village become more and more anxious, and want to make contact already. Most of them just want to show them that the island belongs to their tribe, and that the 100 need to get out.

The Grounders were preparing to take some of the 100 one night, but before they even reached the beach a wild boar attacked them out of nowhere. Esme (their leader) was greatly injured, and Baldur (her guard) was killed. This is when Maeve (A Grounder who was banished) joined the Grounders again. Bastianna and Ragah (two great warriors), who have secretly been keeping track of Maeve's whereabouts, sought her out to come heal their Chosen One (Esme), and in return Maeve would be pardoned of her crimes and able to rejoin the Grounders. During a hunting trip that Bastianna and Ragah were a part of there was an acid rain (side effect of the nuclear bombs that destroyed the Earth), which killed them both because they were unable to reach shelter quick enough. Rio (a loner), Sam (a loner) and Osias (a healer) were also killed in the acid rain.

Grounder believe life is precious, and so many of them are still mourning the loss of everyone who's died in the past couple of days. Some begin to blame the arrival of the 100 for all the sudden deaths, and now that Esme is healed for the most part it's probably about time she reaches out to make contact.

Jillian (a lone Grounder who traded with the village) has also joined up with the other Grounders. She traded something very valuable in exchange for protect from the ones who fell from the sky (the 100), And will be staying with them at least until she is sure they are no longer a threat.[/spoili]

  • Because our location is different than that in the show, it would make sense that the grounders are different as well. This tab is mostly for those playing grounders, but all may read if they so please. Here is everything you will need to know:

Overview:[spoili]Though they are primitive in some ways (no use of metal or other artificial materials such as plastics, etc.) they have a very sophisticated understanding of ecology, biology, Permaculture, biomimetics, selective breeding, and other "earth sciences." They can use natural hallucinogens like ayahuasca and magic mushrooms for illumination, ritual, community bonding, and spirituality (no actual "paranormal powers").

They are not vicious savages, but they will respond with ferocity toward the 100 because from their point of view the Consumers/Insatiables (what they call the people of the prior technological civilization and the survivors who remain in the Prison of the Insatiables, a.k.a. the Ark) destroyed the world, and are thus the enemies of all life.

The Grounders are very close-knit and communal among their own kind, and peaceful toward other tribes whenever possible. War almost destroyed all life, so they view it as an abomination. The big exception to their peaceful demeanor would be anyone who visibly uses the technology of the Consumers beyond the simplest forms of salvage and repurposing (i.e., tearing apart an electric motor to make copper necklaces from the wire: suspicious but tolerable; trying to make the motor run again: desist, or we fight). Robots, drones, or any other self-powered machinery is also considered anathema, and subject to attack at the earliest strategically and tactically sound convenience.

They do train and practice for war. In part, to provide release for humans' natural inclinations toward violence, in part to be ready should any Consumers escape the Prison of the Consumers (that's basically the sort of thing they scare their children with: "If you don't stop being bad, the Consumers will come and EAT you!"), and in part for the purpose of hunting, or any remaining War Machines etc. show up.[/spoili]
Beliefs:[spoili] The Consumers (those who lived prior to the nuclear bombs) practiced a dark sorcery beginning with the smelting of metal (i.e., making of things that do not grow by consuming more energy than the Sun and Life provides naturally), then began to "drink the blood of the Earth" and ravage her biosphere. When they had ravenously gobbled all they could, they fought each other over what little was left. It is said that the Consumers heralded as their greatest triumph, that they could launch themselves into the starry void riding great fiery spears, and live entirely by their dark magic, without being interdependent with the rest of the community of Life. When they threatened to destroy all in their greed and savagery, the Earth-goddess Gya said, 'You say that you can destroy all life and yet live? Therefore, you are expelled from My embrace and the Tribes of the Living! So that women and men will never again follow in your path, behold, I shall grant you your desire: you shall live within the lifeless cages of your own making! Never more shall you grow endlessly in numbers and wealth; you would not live within the limits of My bounty; therefore, you shall live within the limits of the Void-prison you have fashioned for yourselves. Never shall you know the joy of a sunny day, never shall you run or dance without walls! You who would be rich without limit, shall now be poor without limit! Your prison shall cross the sky forever as a rootless and wandering star, forever traveling but never reaching Home, for neither Earth nor Void nor Stars will have you. And women and men shall look upon your prison as it crosses the sky in its endless and never-satisfied seeking, and they will know not to follow your path of abomination. So shall it be for all days!"

As a result, it is forbidden to use fire, smelt metal, etc. (though they have other ways of making strong materials, such as blades crafted from silk thread and resin, a composite material similar in strength and lightness to carbon fiber), but they are free to develop "technologies" modeled after life and ecological principles. Another reason they have for refusing to use fire is to remain hidden from the hungry eyes of the Consumers banished to the sky (the Ark) and any remaining drone aircraft from the War that might exist (if only in myth and superstition). This explains why the Ark has not detected them by their campfires, hence why the Council doesn't already know that Earth is habitable.[/spoili]

Opening Setting

It's been a week since the 100 arrived on the ground. Since then they've been living off of the supplies from the boxes, and have pitched their tents on the beach, near their dropship. After the Acid Rain incident The're been staying in the dropship whenever it looks like it's going to rain. Last's night rain was actually water, luckily, and a few set out buckets to catch the rain in case it was clean enough to drink.

The grounders are growing impatient and, despite the rain, many camped outside of the Temple of Knowledge last night. They are eagerly awaiting Esme's next course of action, and they are all getting a little impatient. If she doesn't make a decision today, who knows how much control she'll loose over her people.

Today, the ground is damp and the air is humid. Temperatures should reach 70 farehieht by three, but be prepared for more rain come nightfall.

Viaeny:

The assembled teens were all looking rather glum and ragged, and worse, not all who had come down were still alive to attend. Since touchdown there had been arguments about who, if anyone ought to be in charge. This gathering would hopefully settle the issue once and for all. Still, the mood was such that no one was jumping to speak first.

Well...here goes, Viaeny thought, rising. Like anyone who had been raised in the Public Speakers Section, she'd been taught how to create, memorize, and rehearse a speech. That didn't make the nervousness go away, especially since the whole Revolution might depend on how she did. This is what I was born to do. So just do it already!

"Since we've landed here, we've found our new home to be incomparably beautiful, but also frightening and dangerous in ways we never expected. I think it's obvious to everyone that if we want to survive, we'll need to be organized, we'll need to work together, and bring out the best in us, instead of the worst.

"But each one of us knows what happens when any one person, or group of people, gets the power to decide the lives of other people. So before we go electing a 'Leader,' I think we should ask ourselves if that is the only way we can organize and cooperate. There's less than a hundred of us here. With proper application of Robert's Rules of Order, I think we can make most of our group decisions through direct democracy, and make sure that everyone who has something to contribute gets to have their say. So I propose that instead of electing a 'Leader,' we elect a Chairperson, somebody whose role is to keep order in our meetings and make sure things like speeches and votes go smoothly--not to become Chancellor of Earth.

"But what about emergency situations, where we won't have time to deliberate over decisions? In ancient Athens, they used to elect a general, called a Strategos, when they went to war. The Strategos had the authority to command the armies in the field, but they could be recalled by vote, and their power ended when the war did. We can do something like that. Figure out who'd be best to lead us if we're attacked, who'd be best to lead us in a medical emergency, who'd be best to lead us when something like one of those acid rain storms hits. It doesn't have to be same person. I think it'd be better if it wasn't. The best general isn't necessarily the best emergency room doctor. Plus, electing different people to lead us in different emergencies would prevent concentration of power, and better utilize different people's talents.

"And just to be clear, these people would not be a Council. If there's time to sit down and have a meeting, there's time for all of us to participate, as equals."

Esme:

"How long must we hide in the forest like scared rabbits?!" a warrior shouted. "Every day we allow these Consumers to live on our land is a day it is profaned!" Esme breathed slow and deep, concentrating on maintaining--and projecting--her tranquility.

"Predators also 'hide' in the forest. They wait to strike until the time is right, and so must we. We do not know how many Consumers yet live aboard their Sky-Prison. We do not know their armament or their plans. We do know one thing: they have done something we never would have anticipated. Even in retrospect we cannot yet see why they have sent the cream of their youth down all but unarmed, instead of sending their best warriors to form a beachhead. If you know yourself and you know your enemy, you need not fear the result of a thousand battles.

"We do not know our enemy. We cannot guess their actions, and so cannot be certain of victory. The victorious warrior seeks battle after victory has been won; the one who is destined to defeat seeks battle, and then hopes to win. To gain knowledge of our enemy, I will put on the clothing I wore when you found me, and go to them as if I had not had the great blessing of knowing all of you. Unlike you, my people, I do not bear the fearsome aspect of a Warrior," she said, pausing to give a Da Vinci smile. "I am also close to them in age. I will be able to examine their vehicle and listen to their counsels and their rumors. Then when the time is right, I can return with the knowledge we need to assure victory.

"As for you, Warriors of the Azure Waters, I must ask you for your patience. He who is prudent, and lies in wait for an enemy who is not, will be victorious." Inwardly, Esme felt a twinge of guilt for employing quotes from Sun Tzu the way she was. But, what were the chances any of her people would have heard of him, or know why had been revered as a strategist by the people of the World that Was for a thousand, five hundred years? I have to be the 'Chosen One' they need me to be. Maybe when the Consumer threat is dealt with, I can start teaching them to read so they can use my books to find their own way. But for now...I have to be Sun Tzu and Marcus Aurelius and Aristotle for them.
