Lauren gasped for breath as she ran through the woods, an arrow barely missing her shoulder. She hadn't meant to anger the prisoners. She had merely came to deliver the message from her father.
"YOU'LL NEVER ESCAPE US GIRL!"
This was it. She was going to die. She would never see her family again.
"Hey you!" a voice called from above.
Lauren knew she didn't have time to stop and look up, yet she did anyway.
A hand was reaching down. She grabbed it, gripping as hard as she could. When she was safely pulled to the top, she saw who had saved her. A lean, yet muscular boy with shaggy brown hair. His eyes were hazel colored.
"You're cute," another voice said.
"Shut up Edward!" said the boy as another similar looking figure emerged from behind a tree trunk.
The first boy spoke.
"I'm Jay, and this is my incredibly annoying twin brother Edward who thinks I have a crush on you."
Lauren didn't respond.
Jay looked at her for a moment, and then understood why she wasn't saying anything.
"It's okay, you don't have to be scared. You're safe here. This is what I like to call "The Loft," otherwise known as our fortress in the trees."
