Tales of Morelia - OOC (Open)

I've gone and made the fixes you've requested. I decided to keep the graviton cannon Low rank and with very limited area, after a bit of thought. It leaves room to expand on it later-on.

I'm not sure which to suggest as far as character progression goes, but both of the obvious options have been presented. The method of tying "level ups" to story progression or significant events often requires less overall book-keeping, though. No need to track XP awards, and it gives GMs a good control over the pace of levels/upgrades earned.

Thanks guys! We appreciate the input!

So I think six characters is a good number, so the IC should start within 2-3 days. As was said in the Synopsis, we will start near Capua Nor. Alena will be leading a squad of her soldiers (and possibly some ragtag volunteers) to escort Meltokio researchers (Kyren included) to Gerdren.

You can be a part of the researchers, soldiers, or it can be a happy coincidence that you are in the area. I do, however, want us all to start in the same area please. (For plot reasons)

If you would be within the soldier/researcher group, let me know & my opening post will include some kind of comment about your character. (Or if you want to wait for the post to decide, that's fine too)

*Note to any thinking of joining: We will probably accept one or two more people, so if you are thinking of joining, please speak up & we will wait for your CS.

Sorry for the delay everyone! I have the post written out and am running it by Liam. As soon as he approves it, we'll be starting! Huzzah!

Good to hear. I'm pretty excited for this, although I'll probably take a while to think of a post myself. I do think I'll be among those to be coincidentally present for things, which is why I didn't mention anything to the contrary. A performer on tour has a really easy in just about anywhere I'd need her to be.

...I also think I may end up tossing around various references to Tales of the Abyss, because all the fonon this and that ends up fitting in pretty well with a musical theme.

It has begun! -> Tales of Morelia IC

Once you have read the IC post, look in the spoiler below please:

What better way than to start with a tutorial fight? Here in Morelia, we start things off with a bang! ...granted they are tiny baby chick tadpole things...........BANG!

For this first fight, I'm going to show you my "battle system" here in the OOC. Once the battle is over, you can tell me
:
1) That you'd like me to keep this stuff to myself and just play it out in the IC.
2) That you'd like me to keep giving you all the details here.
3) That it doesn't matter to you what I do.

I wasn't sure if I was clear, but the monsters' formation is a straight line. Everyone has their own monster (Incubus Prince told me in PM that he'll be gone for a week, so he'll join in when he returns). To make sure everyone doesn't attack the same monster, I'll be doing this:

1 2 3 4 5

1 = ?

2 = ?

3 = Alena

4 = Kyren

5 = ?
Before you start writing out your IC post, please declare your monster number. For this round, everyone can initiate one attack. Turns will always end with characters guarding, magic guarding, or evading.

*Notes: Please remember to be specific with how/where you dodge. Guards will always work unless attacks are magic. Magic guard will always work unless the attack is physical.

Once most of you have posted (hopefully all), I'll post here in the OOC with my monster rolls, then type out the outcome for the IC.

If you guys have any questions, please ask!

I'm dealing with some family issues. I'm not gonna go into what, but I'll try to be back as soon as I can.

Relish Completely understandable. Thank you for letting us know! I hope everything works out! (if you ever need to talk to a friendly acquaintance, hit me with a PM)

Everyone Else (minus Incubus):
You guys can still go ahead and post. No rush, just letting you know.

Also, some clarity:

1) In this case, an attack means either a regular attack with your weapons or a low rank arte/spell.
2) You don't have to be a part of the soldiers/researchers to attack the monsters. That was just because logically speaking, my character would say that not knowing that there would be outsiders joining the fray.

I really feel funny being the first reply to the IC thread, but someone's got to do it, so I'll get it done later tonight. For what you'll need here, I'll go with Monster 1 as my target.

Well IRL stuff is no longer my problem.

Kinda bummed nobody else has posted yet. I guess I'll take number 5

Welcome back Relish! You have about a day to post before I do. (however even if you don't get one in before I post, it's fine. I'll use an npc to stall your monster for a turn so take your time....but not too long please)

Alright, I skimmed everyone's battle sections so far and I have two things to say:

1) If a person does not specify whether they are dodging, guarding, or magic guarding, then I will assume they are guarding to end their turn. (ReaperOfFlames if you'd like to specify whether Quinn is guarding or dodging, then feel free to edit the post [but let me know if you do please])

2) Liam van Alkema has given us our first example of dodging. He did one thing good and one thing bad:

Good Idea= He gave the direction he was dodging. This is important for our system to work, so please make sure to add directions when you dodge!
Bad Idea = He assumed that his character was successful in getting behind mine. DO NOT assume anything. If his monster gets the right dice roll, Kyren will get hit and his last sentence will be void.

He should have worded it
= "If successful, from behind her he said would say, "Ah, Guard Captain! So nice to see you again. I'm so glad we'll be travelling together!" Then he might add what would happen if he wasn't successful (or he could just save that for the next post)
After something like a dodge, where the next outcome can't be determined, future tense is acceptable and encouraged. (I know it's tense changing, but I prefer that than making an assumption)
Anyway, as I told Relish, I will move us to round two tomorrow. Be prepared to be mystified by my dicey battle system!

Thank you for the save Xylime, I have corrected my error.

Alright guys, I apologize. Turns out I'm going to have an early day tomorrow, so I won't be able to officially post. However, I will go through the enemy hit system now so you at least know if you got hit or not.

So generally this is the set up for monsters:

1 = side-swipe attack (a horizontal attack)

2 = short distance frontal attack (generally a vertical hit)

3 = long distance frontal attack (so that way backstepping isn't op)

4 = back attack (in case you guys try to roll around the monster)

5 = Arte/Spell (is an auto-hit so hope you're guarding/magic guarding!)

6 = Miss (self-explanatory)
*Note: Some monsters may have more moves later in the rp, some might have AoE attacks, etc. For now, we will have these basic ones.
Now as we have determined earlier, these are the monster pairings:

M1 = Kanade
M2 = Quinn
M3 = Alena
M4 = Kyren
M5 = Darude (however, since Relish didn't post yet, it is a random NPC)

Now, I will post this, use the 'more option' to roll 5 dice, and edit this post to say the results.

Alright, so going from left to right:

M1 uses an Arte/Spell.
M2 uses a side-swipe attack.
M3 Misses.
M4 Misses.
M5 uses a side-swipe attack.

(...Apparently the GMs get dumb luck today)

1) Luckily Kanade was guarding, so she will only take a little damage. The chick will use an arte (instead of a spell) so your guard is successful.

2 ) Quinn was rolling forward, meaning he got behind the monster, so the sideswipe missed.

3) Well this is going to be a slightly comical situation to write out. (I guess Alena got the derpy monster)

4) Guess Kyren does get to say his snarky line.

5) Poor NPC.
Tomorrow I will officially write out a post in the IC with the results.

Would it be alright if Darude is part of the defense team right now?

I'm not sure if I'll be able to post in this RP before you move things along >_<

@Relish Yeah that will be fine, Xylime will be removing our NPC fighter one way or another so there will be room for you to hop into the party.

Also, because of a severe headache Xylime won't be able to post tonight. She didn't want to post something sub-par because she wasn't feeling well.

Sorry about that guys! I very rarely get headaches, so when I do get them they tend to put me out of commission for the rest of the day.

Anyway, the post is up! I made a few assumptions (like Kanade's exposed thigh, etc). If my assumptions are wrong in any way, please let me know and I will edit my post!

And Round 2 has begun! I will post Alena's PoV tomorrow, but feel free to post before me if inspiration strikes. Since Round Two is a full round, you can have up to 4 attacks (or any combination of artes/spells/attacks that follow the battle rules).

As it stands now, the monsters don't have any kind of dodge system (especially because this is the tutorial fight), so all attacks will hit them. However, would you guys want the monsters to be able to dodge attacks? I didn't want to add too many factors into the battle system before having actual players, but if you guys think it would make things more interesting, let me know! (and in turn, let me know if you don't want more stuff added to the battle system)

I went ahead and made a little post. It's essentially just the typical 3-attack combo followed by an arte, hopefully it's ok.

I'm not sure how to weigh in on the monsters evading attacks. It would make fight scenes longer, so if everyone's fine with that, it couldn't hurt. Though depending on how often they're likely to do so, it could get funny or things might sometimes inadvertently drag out. The dice, they do the darndest things. I do want to say that, especially in the case of things like spells and area attacks, it would reflect the games well if there's a chance the target will no longer be in the area when it goes off. It's rare that enemies have an opportunity to get out of the way of melee hits, though.

Again, sorry about that guys. The worst part about using a family computer is that you're not the only one that wants/needs to use it. (hopefully that problem will be solved in about a week, but I digress)

Anyway, enough excuses, Alena's post is up. As shown in my new post, I personally counted certain actions as "attacks". The morphing of my spear to a bow took up one "attack", and taking the time to step forward and notice Mirboro was another (I don't count guarding/dodging as an action/attack). In other words, you guys don't have to actually attack four times, and if you want to, you can think of attacks more like actions. Sorry if this makes things confusing. It was just something that I realized. (@.@) Don't think too hard on it though, I'm not going to be too much of a stickler on such things (except for dodging...or if you try to use 5 High ranking arte/spells, because that's just ridiculous:dizzy:)

On that note, your post was good R-9 Pilot! *nods approvingly* and thanks for the input! That helps out a lot. (and makes so much sense I don't know why I didn't think about it)

Lastly, I worded something in a confusing manner in my Monster post, but luckily it only really affects me and Liam. (M3 bounded past Alena's left side, but from its perspective, the monster attacked too far to the right) If I ever word something oddly, let me know and I'll correct it or clarify.

I have returned! (Being home only for a few hours every other day didnt' allow me to be on and My summer break has been kinna crazy) But I'm back now and I should be able to get into the swing of things whenever you throw me in!
