SURVIVOR -- Iwaku Edition -- LET THE GAMES BEGIN

I'm sorry, I somehow spent a whole week writing up a post for a OnexOne roleplay I'm in. Now I have to make up some ingredient for a potion. >:I I'm thinking of nemastylis geminiflora. I think it sounds good for a dragon-to-human transformation spell. Otherwise, I'm just waiting around. :)

Yeah, neither did I. I'm here, despite surviving a house fire a few days ago. :-)

The votes are in. @Babehchu will not be continuing to the next round.

CHALLENGE TWO

Poem: The Pen is Mightier than the Sword, but What About Guns and Keyboards?

In this challenge, both teams must submit a 20-50 line long poem revolving around the theme of "The Pen is Mightier than the Sword, but What About Guns and Keyboards?". Stories will be judged on the following criteria:
  • Theme: x/10 (Ten points awarded for a poem that neatly addresses the question. Points deducted for failing to answer or going off on tangents.)
  • Rhyme: x/15 (Five points awarded for <10 lines containing end rhyme. Ten points for 11-20 rhyming lines. Fifteen points for twenty-one or more rhyming lines.)
  • Vocabulary: x/5 (Dull vocabulary gets one point. Exciting, relevant vocabulary gets five. That in between is up to my discretion.)
  • Allusion: x/10 (Please mark all allusions with links to the relevant wikipedia articles for my convenience. Up to five points for one reference. Up to ten for two or more references. Please make them specific and relevant.)

TIME LIMIT: THIS FRIDAY, the 16th of May, at 10:00 PM (Or almost exactly 48 hours from the time of this post)

Friendly three hour warning. ^^

A question once asked which tool is greater?
A sword used to kill, or the pen at hand?
The question still stands though dated later,
a keyboard, or guns that ravage the land?

Look to the past to seek out the answer.
Look to history and see what is said.
While fingers are quick and bullets faster,
from keys, music prevails, with the rest dead.

It's happened before, history's proven,
the answer to this lies with pen, with song.
To forgive, divine, and to err, human,
and in war both sides couldn't be more wrong.

The outcry of battle rage through the land,
the likes of which no man had ever seen.
Though soon an armistice would be at hand,
during the winter of Nineteen fourteen.

Man fought man, letting violence run wild,
decided the peace was safe to upend.
Yet time came to celebrate God's child,
And both recognized the fighting must end.

Sides at opposition are now mending,
bringing pause to the war of assumption.
To sing of hope, peace, and understanding,
for a world so blackened by corruption.

Keys of tranquility joined together.
crescendoing sound of war made to cease.
What happened before now didn't matter.
For today was declared a day of Peace.

Conversation exchanged across trenches,
as men created a friendly rapport.
What's wanted by both helps mend the fences,
and to a solution opened a door.

One moment, however fleeting it be,
the keyboard and song made two sides as one.
Now if only all of us could now see,
that only death is brought forth by the gun.

As music refrains, so shall history,
We must learn from our ancestors' mistake.
Let us meet together in harmony,
One chord unites, for our progeny's sake.

Who can tell what more the future will bring?
The cost of violence can be far too steep.
Shall we strive for the peace yet to be seen?
Or forget, and be predestined to weep?

Or keep on asking the question above,
and choose to learn from humanity's past?
Put guns aside and surrender to love?
Remember those first, who strive to be last?

So sorry lady, none of our members where on at the time this was due. If you want to at to check that it really was done on time we can add you to the chat to make sure. Here is the poem in its entirety.

It was established in a long past age,
"The Pen is mightier than the sword," said a once great sage.
But it is now the new millennium, and we must examine once again
Whether words or weapons are the resource to obtain.

Some say a gun gives you power
But what does that mean this age, day and hour?
With a gun I can kill a man, take his life
With a keyboard I can make a man, and give him a wife

Keyboards granting shape, forging the gun.
The systematic virus infects, destroying fun.
Keystrokes decimate rebellions,
Steal from the hellions.

The pale rider reaping souls
Fire from the gun taking its tolls
Writer versus warrior
Bodies created, destroyed. Oh the horror

Words became actions,
Actions became factions .
Keyboards enabled the convergence
Guns fueled the divergence

Yet you still ponder,
Which is the stronger?
Pens gave life to guns and keyboards,
Swords took life from motherboards.

Guns bred violence
Keyboards preached silence
Swords became ancient
Pens were the agent,
For production and destruction of worlds unknown

Thus "The pen is mightier than the sword" stands to this day,
As it has since before pens and swords, in a time far away
Ever since Eden, the beginning of the human race
from Babel to the ISS, throughout our launch into space
But Keyboards and guns still dismay
Alone, worthless
United, priceless
Resources the world deemed tireless.

Sorry to do this to you guys, but I think I'm just going to close the game. It's taking up more of my time than I expected, and I have less of it than I thought I would with the end of school... then I have waaaay more summer commitments than I wanted. Plus, it doesn't seem like there's a whole lot of interest in the game or fun being had, and I was hoping this would be a more lighthearted and simple process.
Totally my fault; I should have planned this out better and been more dedicated from the start.

If anyone else wants to start a Survivor-type game, I welcome you to it. Take as much or as little from this one as you want. I think the idea could still go somewhere with a better game master and a modified rule set/challenge system. XD
