Time passes. The two girls on the squad are, of course, rooming together. Emir is on his own down the hall, for the moment. Your rooms are much more dorm-like than they would have been in Basic, but if you're used to life at another base, it should be similar. You've each got a bed, desk, dresser, and closet, so there's a good bit of space to store things, and bunked two to a room its pretty good.

((And should you guys wish to work out anything notable which has happened in the few days between arriving and this post, feel free to do so.))

Eventually, you're called in for a briefing. Major Togo is there, looking as stern as someone her age can, and Aya is nearby at her side. The major waits for you to be seated before she begins. "Okay, so it seems like they've finally got a mission for us. It's nothing much, but it should be good to get you guys used to things. Don't want yo still wet behind the ears before we send you off into serious work." She gestures, and the large screen behind her lights up, displaying images of a complex of buildings. "We've just hear reports that a band of extremists have just attacked one of our research facilities. They're well-armed and well-equipped, and by the time you arrive they'll have had at least a little time to make their way into the building."

"We're particularly concerned because this is one of the lower-security facilities which is allowed to carry out Bydo research, and the attackers may be after the research samples there. There are also a number of facility personnel believed to still be in the building, and it may become a hostage situation."

"Your orders are to rescue any hostages, and retake the facility. We don't yet know the motivations of the group responsible for this attack, so take them alive if possible. remember, we are police." She pauses, looking at each of you in turn and inviting any questions or comments on the situation.

The briefing was a welcome change to the routine Emir had managed to settle into since his arrival at Camelot base. Besides getting duty within the first two days of his arrival, which sucked, there wasn’t exactly much for him to complain about. Accommodations were basically the same as Astalot, maybe a bit better given he’d yet to get a roommate. Plenty of free time during the day too, the three of them were generally cut loose a bit early, so that was fantastic. He'd managed a few calls back home over the past few days; let them know how he was doing and all that.

The arena also saw quite a bit of use between him and Selene; the medbay was apparently already getting to know the blonde if he wasn’t mistaken. Though they’d both won their fair share of matches, currently he was in the lead simply thanks to the choice of environments. His better flight magic meant he’d been free to hit and run against her in more urban environments and there hadn’t been a damn thing she could do about it. He cracked a small grin as he recalled the thrashing he’d almost gotten once the simulator had wound down and he’d stepped back into the girl’s reach.

His expression was schooled as the doors hissed open before him and he stepped inside the briefing room. A brief salute was made for the Major and Lieutenant before he took his seat and waited for the other two to arrive, apparently they were still busy with breakfast or whatever girls did to prepare in the morning. When the two finally arrived, he greeted Selene with a small smirk and wave, before his attention turned to Togo. The mission was a bit more than what he usually dealt with at Astalot, but at the same time it wasn’t exactly the worse either; so something manageable like the Major had mentioned.

“Any confirmation for hostile mages, or just professional non-magicals? Numbers? Also, any support or will it just be us three?” While he wasn’t going to shy away from such an assignment, not when getting his hands dirty was practically guaranteed, Emir also wasn’t exactly a fan of going in blind; isn’t really fun to fight for your life against stacked odds.

"There don't appear to be any mages amongst their numbers, but don't let your guard down," Sayaka began answering Emir's questions. "The assault was carried out by driving a few vans right through the main entrance of the facility, so we can surmise there are quite a number of assailants. Probably at least eight, possibly more. You three should be able to handle it, but it could very well be quite the fight in there. You'll have Aya for communications support, but you'll be going it alone out in the field. I'll see if I can't get anyone to assist, once you're on your way."

The past few days were, frankly, a drag. Selene, her roommate, was the sort of slob who’s literally incapable of waking up early, and who had absolutely no sense of clothing organization. She and Emir would spend almost all their time butting heads in the training fields, no doubt doing whatever pseudo-indecent stuff that an alcoholic and a trap would do together. It was disturbing, but, outside of the few patrols Merringo did with her squadmates, she didn’t have to worry about the two of them dragging her into their sparring sessions as well. At the very least, the kitchen was well-stocked, and she could actually cook what she wanted, and the shower rooms, while public, were devoid of people after midnight. Indeed, it was a wonderful luxury, to have such a large space to herself every night.

While her days of mundane inactivity was nice and all, it came to an end when they were called to the conference room, for their first mission. Walking through the doors with carefully maintained expression of confident boredom, Merringo sat down beside Emir, leaning back and flicking her auburn bangs behind her ears. The mission itself sounded rather…scary, seeing how the Major was making a point about how the eight terrorists were armed and were raiding a building with such a complex layout that Merringo’s head spun as she began looking at it, but, thankfully, with two battle-ready meatheads, it should be perfect.

Just needed to stay behind them and pretend to be the leader.

“Simple enough,” the cool-headed magical girl said, standing up, “We head out now?”

Over the course of the last couple of days, Selene had settled into a routine of sorts. Her roommate would wake her up at an ungodly hour of the morning, far before they had to report in for duty. She'd either get up and double-fist coffee or try to go back to sleep before she had to report in to her squad for patrols and such. Once they were off duty, Selene and Emir generally made a beeline for the sparring rooms. She'd held her own well enough, but Emir had absolutely wasted her in the urban combat scenario. Clearly, Selene had some work to do in that regard, and she was considering asking the Major for tips later on. Of course, she frequented the on-base bar every night, even seeing the Major there most nights.

Her time so far hadn't been terrible, but it was awfully routine. So when the call came for an actual assignment, Selene entered the briefing room with an eager grin on her face, starving for some action at last.

"Alright, boss." Selene said after the briefing concluded, studying the map. "If we get in trouble, I'm gonna have a bit of a problem not going for lethal blows, though."

"You shouldn't need to," Sayaka said with a pointed look toward Selene. "Magic can easily incapacitate without killing, remember. It takes a certain mindset to just go right for a kill, and I would prefer if you do not fall into it too easily. Understood?" It's clear she takes this sort of thing seriously, and won't take "no" for an answer. That she continued without really waiting for a response just confirmed it. "Well, if there are no further questions, move out! You've got a mission to complete. There's a transport chopper standing by, though if you'd rather fly, you're free to do so, provided you don't just charge on in alone. How you handle the approach is up to you, just retake that building."

Just retake the building? Good, so Merringo technically didn't have to fight at all. Nodding in what she hoped to be a rebellious, badass way, she led the charge out of the door, saying a single, simple sentence. "Stay together, and let me speak first."

After that, seeing how the rest of her teammates were muscle freaks who easily broke the barrier of sound when flying, the auburn-haired girl boarded the chopper, ready to head towards the building and arrest some terrorists.

The answers painted a fairly good chance for success between the three of them and Emir nodded in thanks to the Major as he leaned back into the seat. Merringo seemed fired up to go, which was nice to see he supposed; he barely saw her aside from their scheduled duties. He did raise an eyebrow at Selene’s comment though. Like the Major followed up with, being so casual about the use of lethal force didn’t sit well with him. While he didn’t expect a good fight from individuals that’d attack a research facility, he also didn’t exactly want to just resort to killing them.

Nonetheless the Major spoke her part and summarily dismissed the three of them. He didn’t quite beat Merringo out the door, but he caught up to her easily enough and fell in stride. “What’s there to talk about? We arrest them and other people can do the questioning afterwards.” While he probably could have kept up with the chopper had he really wanted to, the display would be pointless and a waste of energy, so like his squadmate Emir climbed on board and strapped himself in.

Merringo, briefly, entertained the thought of going on a tirade in regards to Emir's massive battle boner and inability to think beyond 'herp derp beat up the bad guys and arrest them'. Then, she realized that being an angry rebel would make her more akin to a bully than anything else, and silenced herself. Instead, she simply strapped herself to the seat, put on a headset, and then said, channelling her inner 'mysterious badass' vibes, "Just watch and learn."

Of course, it'd be absolutely horrible if her negotiations broke down, but...well, then they can go berserk like they've always wanted to, so it wasn't that much of a problem.

Actually, shit, was 'watch and learn' even appropriate for this situation?

Selene rubbed her neck awkwardly as Major Tojo glared at her. Yeah...probably wasn't the best thing to say. Still, back when Grandpa had been training her, he'd emphasized that she'd eventually have to kill people in her line of work. Hell, she thought the Major would be used to it, being a war hero and all. Then again, they were supposed to be cops. Well, considering she'd probably get into deep shit with the Major if she did kill someone, Selene supposed she could hold back on the lance strikes.

Shrugging, Selene joined her squad in the chopper. As Merringo suddenly decided to take charge for whatever reason, Selene joined Emir in questioning the girl, not quite believing that any method besides "beat the shit out of them" would work.

"What, are you gonna talk them to death? Honestly, you'd probably have better luck just flashing them."

The transport slows as your conversation continues, and the pilot gets on the PA system inside the cabin. "Alright, we're right about at the operation area. You're all trained for a standard drop, right?" He pauses for a moment, though maybe not for an actual answer. "Good. We'll open the doors in just a bit, so strap in, then just fly on out." The doors in the back of the transport chopper slide open, allowing you all a quick route out, and down to the city streets below. The building you're liberating is obvious, with some smoke rising from it and what looks like a small stand off with the officers who have already arrived on the scene. The main entrance is in ruins, though you could still charge in, but the terrorist squad has probably gotten pretty well dug in by now.

Once you're all safely on the ground, Aya's voice rings through your heads. "Hey there~ Your friendly operator speaking. As you can probably see, most of what we've managed to do with the conventional forces is keep their attention on a little firefight here and there. I wouldn't recommend charging right into the front door, but you certainly could. There's also a side entrance that you should be able to get into pretty easily, too. Once you're in, your objectives are to subdue all hostiles and ensure the security of the Bydo research samples and data. Oh yeah, if you need to talk to me, you can either speak up, or just think it. Either way, I'll be listening~" Well...handier than relying on radio, at least. You've got a mission to do and a few ways you could approach it, but time is of the essence.

Oh my god. They were seriously…Merringo suppressed her urge to drive a palm into her face, and instead settled for some deep breathing exercises. Those plebians didn’t understand that violence wasn’t the answer to everything, so it was obvious that she would just have to show them how things worked. Of course, what she had in mind was going to end up in violence at the end…but still, geez, this was really damn painful. The auburn-haired mage shook her head slightly, and looked out the small window instead. As the wind swept into the interior of the room, the girl walked up, her Barrier Jacket silently phasing into existence, overlaying her uniform with a protective barrier. It wouldn’t do much, but whatever. As she stood at the open door, she nodded at the others, before stepping off.

Instantly, Flight activated, and, with a descent that looked more like she was hopping from one floor to another, Merringo descended in a rather graceful, controlled manner, choosing to land on the roof of the building instead of the frontline. No point in being a douche about it, after all. As Aya’s annoying chipper voice rang through Merringo’s head, she found herself a roof access stairwell and cautiously opened it. The metal door swung open without a single squeak, and, before entering, she looked behind her, just to see if Emir and Selene were actually coming, or if they were just going to go through the front gates like the crazed battle hungry berserkers they were.

Aya, the police know what we look like. Yes or no?

Well, it was nice to know that Selene was on the same page as him, but if Merringo wanted to try and negotiate then she could do so. He’d just have to make sure she didn’t get herself killed; though if she took a few bullets as a result maybe that’d help change her mind about trying to negotiate with terrorists. As the pilot’s voice cut through the silence that had settled between the three of them, Emir blinked his eyes and the world around him faded as his eyes took on a faint glow.

Each blink threw his senses through the numerous dimensions that touched their own at this point in space and time, some so alien that his senses instinctively rebelled and pulled away. Within a few seconds though he’d found one that seemed to just fine for his needs; it didn’t seem too alien to his senses and there weren’t any noticeable dangers. He let his magic shift within him and directed some of it towards a previously inactive power.

Though he couldn’t hear or see any of the other two, Emir nonetheless said, “I’ll be ready to jump in at any time.” With those parting words, his entire figure blurred before it simply vanished.

As he reappeared in the foreign dimension Emir immediately frowned at the tension his body was put under. Even through the protection of his Barrier Jacket it was as if he was being pulled in every direction at once, the laws of this dimension trying to rend the intrusion apart. Annoying and slightly painful, but it shouldn’t be a problem given he didn’t plan to spend more than a few minutes in here at most. A quick glance around revealed that nothing seemed to have appeared in reaction to his intrusion and he began to descend, moving closer to the building in his home dimension. It was done so with a grimace though as the forces seemed to intensify with his movement, but he bore it without complaint.

Now to wait and see if Merringo’s plan actually bore any fruit, if she’d just add to the hostage count, or if Selene would charge straight in without so much as a care.

As the transport doors opened in midair, Selene engaged her Barrier Jacket, smiling as her armor enveloped itself around her. Leaping out of the transport, she let herself freefall for a few moments, enjoying the feel of the wind rushing against her face before she engaged her flight, descending towards the building at a slightly faster rate than was generally recommended. With an excited whoop, Selene crashed down in front of the building in a three-point landing, summoning her lance in her free hand.

Oi, Merry. You get one shot at your whole talking thing. Otherwise I'll go in from the front and distract them while Emir flanks them. That kosher with you?

Selene thought, hoping that Merringo wouldn't completely fuck up and get herself captured or something. Either way, the threat of an armed mage at their front door should have these idiots be more willing to negotiate, right? Really, Selene was doing Merry a favor.

Merringo has little trouble getting in at least. Either they haven't gotten to the roof yet, or didn't think to post anyone that way. Of course they know who to look out for, Aya replies, after a pause which is just long enough to be uncomfortable. She'll have an opportunity to get wherever she wants to go before she's spotted, chances are. But, eventually, she'll run into someone on one of the lower floors, who will inevitably point a gun at her an question her. "Who the hell are you?"

Emir is...wherever he is. It's conveniently quiet, as he waits. As for Selene, her arrival is met with a hail of suppressive fire, which should be nothing she'd need to worry about. Although, she may not want to remain blatantly out in the open for long. She can count a good 5 or so guys in various parts of the entryway, most of them covering the main doors. It's a nice multi-story mezzanine sort of affair in there, plenty of room for the vans driven into the middle of the place, the nice tile floor marked up by their treads. It would be easy to just rush in, but alone, it could be a tough fight to be so outnumbered.

The auburn-haired girl grimaced at Selene’s bold proclamation. It sorta made her want to punch that meathead in the face and cement her audacious rebel attitude while she was at it…but knowing how much of a meathead that blonde was, Merringo would no doubt end up breaking her fist instead. Still, it was good that Emir, wherever he was, was ready to jump in and kick ass if necessary. She stood in the stairwell for a moment, wondering whether or not she should respond to Selene with a caustic one-liner…but in the end, nothing came into mind, so the girl continued to walk down, unnoticed and unseen.

Well, up until the point she reached the second floor, where some terrorist gunman pointed his weapon at her and interrogated her.

For a moment, looking down the barrel of the gun, Merringo was silent. It was scary. It was so scary that she even forgot to breathe, her mind scrambling in a dozen different directions as she realized that she didn’t even know what she was going to say. Shit shit shit shit sh-

The girl smirked confidently, walking past the man without a care in the world. “Who the hell do you think I am?” she asked rhetorically, “I’m the backup. Civil Enforcement’s going to be sending squads in soon, and it took a hell of a time stealing some their uniforms to slip into here. Where’s the rest of your lot? Heard those bastards are bringing in a teleport mage as well, so you better group up, or you’re going to get picked off one by one.”

The guy doesn't seem to but it at first, keeping his gun trained on Merry for a few long, tense moments before he lowers it. "I didn't hear anything about backup, but that's great. Most of us are holding the main entrance, but we've got a couple other teams, I'll give them the heads-up." He stops for a bit to get on his radio and inform the others. "Listen up, CE's here and they've got some kinda teleporter. Squads two and three, stay sharp and stick with your team." Merry can overhear some affirmative comm chatter. Whoever these guys are, they're a pretty professional outfit. Not just some roused rabble or the like. Their gear, judging by this guy, is pretty damn good, too.

He gets another bit of comm chatter. "Sounds like we'd need help in the entryway, some kinda armored mage just crashed the place. Better hurry down there." He starts moving in that direction, leaving Merry alone to follow or go her own way.

Internally, Merringo breathed a sigh of relief as the gun was lowered and the man began to speak. This definitely wasn’t your ragtag group of disgruntled terrorists, but a much more organized crew of trained criminals. Nevertheless, they weren’t so organized that they could instantly discern her identity, and she nodded, following alongside him as she went on. There were two other groups, meaning that the initial estimate that Sayaka offered, that of 8, was definitely off. Two squads, under the assumption that each squad meant 4 people…

Aya, there are eight more of them inside. Two squads, operating separately. Emir, play the role of the teleporter when I give you a signal. Selene, go in as soon as you can hear me, vocally. I’d tell you the rest of my plan, but we’ll see how it unfolds from here.

Ending her telepathic messages there, she followed him, back to the frontlines of the conflict, where five more terrorists were emptying their firearms onto the police and Selene. Hopefully, Emir wasn’t total trash at fighting.

Having since moved into the equivalent of the building’s lobby within the dimension Emir had then withdrawn his senses back to his body. The sensation of being pulled apart dulled as he simply floated in position awaiting for things to go wrong. If they did, he’d probably get a call over the mental link that Aya had established for the mission, and at that moment he’d appear behind the enemies for a nasty surprise.

As the moments ticked by in relative silence, Emir drummed his fingers on the hilt of his weapon. Just about to peer into his world once more, the projection of his senses was stilled by the telepathic message that flowed into his mind. So apparently Merringo hadn’t gotten shot or taken hostage so that was a point to the pinkette he supposed. Still…

Sure. Where do you want me to teleport to though? I can do the building lobby or one of the rooms near it, but you’re going to have to wait a moment if you want me to drop in further inside.

Selene dove for cover as the men opened fire on her, ducking behind a stone wall. Her Barrier Jacket may have been armored enough that their bullets simply bounced off of it, but staying still and letting yourself get shot was still fucking stupid. Charging mana through her lance, Selene prepared to step out and fire on her attackers when Merry butted in, surprisingly not shot or captured. Huh. Maybe her talking thing might have actually worked. Shrugging, Selene stayed where she was, content to let her foes' bullets impact harmlessly off the wall that she was hiding behind.

Righto, Merry. Guess you know what you're doing after all.

Selene telepathed cheerfully, sounding almost approving of Merringo's efforts.
