Ben did a quick headcount of everyone, making sure they were all present and relatively uninjured. Fortunately, everyone had all their fingers and toes and seemed okay, save for Kris who was angry about the grill. That was understandable.

While there was a verbal tennis match of should they leave or should they go into the forest, Ben scanned the area with his flashlight in hand. He didn’t see anything suspicious, but standing at the edge of the “deep depths of the woods” in pajamas wasn’t very settling. And it was getting kind of cold. However, his attention did turn when Daisy said he had a point. “Of course I do.” He mumbled, more to himself than the rest- not wanting to jinx it or something. Although, for a moment, he wasn’t quite sure where Daisy stood in the matter so he hyper focused on her decision to go back..

Despite wanting to see their resident athlete, Kris, punch someone in the face, Ben decided that it would be best to see something like that in the morning. “Don’t beat yourself up over it Kris. If anything, come morning, you’ll be able to see the culprit better and punch them in the face easier.” With a light shrug, he continued. “Annnnd, if our grill really is gone, we can just say we never had one to begin with. Not like the place is some five star hotel.” Which was true. If anything, they should have been reimbursed after seeing the poor quality of their cabin.

Pointing his flashlight towards the cabin, he began to usher the slow moving forward. “Right. Now that it’s settled. Let’s go campers. Before the sun rises.”

As the group trekked through the rough dirt and gravel, Ben held up the rear of the pack. It was relatively quiet save for the shuffle of feet and the crunch of leaves and sticks. So, the sudden whisper he heard was definitely out of place. A cold chill ran down Ben’s spine as he glanced behind him, but seeing nothing there, he shook his head and kept going. It was just in his head. There was nothing to worry about. And if there was… well, it was a problem for morning.

He quickened his pace a little to keep up, although with long legs it wasn’t that hard. Spotting the slipper-less Mari, he tapped her shoulder. “I’m sure walking on dirt and rocks isn’t the most comfortable thing- even with slippers on. Do you wanna piggyback the rest of the way? And I dunno, save yourself from possible injury?”

Ben didn’t mind either choice she made so long as they got back to the cabin as quick as they could. And when they did, he followed Alex’s advice and began to grab the rest of their belongings from around their bonfire. It consisted of a cooler of drinks, with most of the ice melted, some boxes of unopened food that wouldn’t spoil being left out, and some personal belongings like backpacks. “Weird… they’d take the grill but not- well literally anything else." Ben simply shrugged and headed inside, feeling the weight of sleep hitting him again.

He flopped onto his makeshift bed on the floor before Daisy could steal it again, though didn’t mind moving some to make more space if the couch wasn’t really comfortable. There was a split second of him getting the idea to invade the bd space, but he was already on the floor so the decision had been made.

Despite Ben being the first to sleep, the night seemed a little more… creepier. It was just a tad more ominous. They had to convince themselves that the shadows outside of windows were just the trees blowing in the wind and the weird sounds was just the wind playing tricks on them or some animals skittering about. It was all in their heads. Definitely.

If anything, they all concluded that worrying now would get them nowhere and they’d have a better idea of what to do in the morning.

Ben may have been the first to sleep, but he was definitely last to rise. When someone called him or when the others began to stir, he grumbled something about 20 more minutes and something about turn off the lights (the sun) it’s too bright. Eventually, his stomach was the reason he finally climbed out of the sleeping bag and blanket combo (that and of course everyone else’s chatting or them trying to get him up). He forgot he was on breakfast duty too so that was more reason to get up. There was no need for them to start a riot because of no breakfast.

“Good thing we don’t need a grill for pancakes. Or waffles I guess.” The kitchen wasn’t all that grand- far from it actually, but the stove worked. Well, it worked after Ben fumbled with it for a few minutes.

“So,” He started as he passed out plates after he finished making it. “What’s the plan of the day?” Glancing out the window he mused, “Looks nice enough for...a fun exploration… a swim...you know, something fun.” Of course, he was just prolonging the inevitable at this point.
