"San Miguel? Think I been there actually." Anne scratches her head and struggles to recall if she indeed has been to such a place. But they get to the gate, and Anne refrains from further banter. Her eyes squint and scan around the wall. No visible archers, yet. But she and likely the others can hear music and shouts in the air within the city walls. Her eyes zero in on the tall white granite castle at the center of it all. If there were a King or other high authority, her money (or scales as it were) was on them being up there. As she stands, her body sway a little like a willow but remains stalwart.

The guard looks at the three, his gaze unflinching as he says "So another trio of Strangers. Hmm." He turns around and signals to those up top of the gate by putting his thumb down. A gesture that makes Anne uneasy given its usual meaning, as her hand goes for one of her pistols(reloaded on their journey) but then the large gate doors part and the guard says "Follow me. I'll take you where you need to go." "Sorry Al." Anne apologizes preemptively, her hand relaxing and she gives him a half-smile "A bit...on edge still."

When the gates open, the trio see that inside a veritable festival is in full swing. The streets are decorated in banners that stretch across and over the streets bearing a white rose. People mill about, evidently between exciting things by the jubilant looks on their faces. The guard that met them is joined by four others who encircle the trio.

"Make way! Official business!" The lead guard says raising a hand, and the crowd parts around the entourage. People whisper to each other.

"Strangers? Has to be. Look at the woman and that man!"

"Think they're going to the White Guard?"

"No no, Red Shield if they're taking this street."

For Anne, such attention makes her lower her hat and cover an ear. "Ugh...too loud." She mumbles under her breath as they go through the streets. The guard occasionally looks back at them, making sure they are compliant.

The entourage comes to a stop at a large three-story wooden building. Two banners of a different color hangs over this one: Both are mostly red with black lettering spelling out "Red Shield Guild" on the top banner and below that "Explore, Chronicle, Defend" and both are between two red roses.

The guard turns around and gestures at the large double doors of the guild hall. "If you are truly here in peace, with something of grave importance, these are the people you need to speak with before you can approach King Richard the Third." The guard awaits their response, neutral in expression and stance.

The downwards thumb motion unnerves Albert a bit, but why would the man make it if he intended to hurt them? Were he the man, Albert would simply retreat, make them think that the gates were being opened, then attack once he was safe on top of the walls. The soldiers' familiarity was Strangers was also a bit surprising, but perhaps Strangers were not uncommon, at least at the gates of this city.

Albert simply waved Anne off, "Don't worry about it. I am too. Honestly, I'm still surprised I'm holding it together this well." After that, he went along willingly with the guards into the city, taking every sight in that he could. Once they arrive at the guild, Albert peers blankly at the doors when suddenly the man's words draw his attention, Richard the Third? Is that the Lionheart guy that was king of England or am I stupid? If he's a Stranger, that might makes things easier. Or more difficult...

To the guard himself, Albert merely nodded, "Thank you," before deciding to push onwards through the door and tackle whatever came next."

With focus back on the guard who gave the thumbs down up to the sentries above at the wall, Benjie carefully edged one of his hands toward the holstered pistol. Then he stopped himself upon the gates opening and overheard Anne's apology to Albert.

It's only natural given our situation.

Benjie thought, following the others. He wasn't surprised by the extra guards that soon surrounded them, but he was confused that they weren't detained on the spot and disarmed. Instead their group was given a protective escort. Perhaps they're were being led away for questioning in an secured location without unwanted attention. That's what he would've done in the guards' position.

The scenery around them was definitely like something out of European romantics.

Scanning from side to side, Benjie Delfino can very well conclude that some kind of festival was happening. The local people made way for their party and gawked at them while whispering with one another.

"Huwag kang pagbabago sa ilang mga bagay." (Some things do not change.)

He muttered, referring to the gossiping onlookers. If Benjie had money he would've bet that word about their arrival will be over this city within the hour. Then they stopped at the guild hall the guard explained, they will have to tell their story first to whoever own this place. In acknowledgment, Benjie stood at attention and gave a professional salute to the leading guard as a fellow soldier. They were of different worlds and cultures, but Sergeant Delfino had respect for anyone who can handle a situation like theirs, so professionally.

"Guess we better go introduce ourselves to our new 'hosts'."

Benjie remarked to Anne and walked behind Albert into the hall.

Passing through the main doors of the guild hall the trio walk into a lobby area with seven people in red uniforms conversing with each other at the tables.

They all gradually take notice of the trio, and while they all appear ready to meet them none get up from their chairs. One of them, appearing to be the youngest, asks the older man across from him in a whisper "Does it matter who meets them first?"

The older responds "It does. Matter of jurisdiction. Sit and allow our host to perform his duty."

Anne looks around, scratching her head and resisting her impulse to start asking questions. Main one being why they were staring but not doing anything, and secondly if they dressed ridiculous by choice or orders.

From a door at the other end of the hall comes another man; the Strangers would recognize him as being of African descent. A young fair-skinned and bespectacled woman trails behind him. He greets them with a wide smile and speaks in a deep baritone. "Strangers coming right to our hall? My my, this is indeed a good day." He then says to Albert "Thank you my good man. I see no insignia on your attire, so I assume you're a mercenary seeking compensation. What is your price?"

Albert watches them all expectantly through his glasses, peering from one person to the other as the group awaits their greeting, until the African man approaches. It seems a bit odd to have a black man here, but perhaps he too is a Stranger or many different races of humans are spread in close proximity on this world. When he asks what Albert's compensation is, Albert can't help but wonder if it's still not too late for all of this to be a trap before deciding to answer openly as he had before, "I'm not a mercenary. My name is Albert Rhinegard, and I am from a different time and future, much as these other two are. We've come to discuss the existence of a dangerous Stranger beyond your walls, one that may burn the world." Albert's face is one of deathly seriousness as he speaks those final words, hoping that the man would take him seriously or that he even already knows about the existence of Hitler.

The way the personal in the crimson decorated uniforms stood without a care about made Benjie think they were either off duty or didn't abide the same military discipline as the guards at the wall. The guerrilla can very much imagine anyone with hostile intentions could massacre these fancy pants in an matter of seconds with a submachine gun.

Appearances can be deceiving.

Benjie thought in reminder. After all for the past three years he spent half of that time, pretending to be a helpless and frightened peasant in front of the invaders until he was able to slit their throats when they least expected it. He just hoped this lot were more capable than they looked. Like Albert he too was surprised to see a dark skinned person in an European looking kingdom. Then again he saw two Japanese and an American Indian eariler, so it shouldn't be too much of a stretch in that regard.

Leaning toward Anne, Benjie whispered.

"My uncle Ramil used to keep a pair of red parrots around his place. Let's hope this bunch can do more than sing songs."

Anne gives a small laugh at Benjie's words, but says nothing. The act does earn them a leer from the young woman though, but she also holds her tongue.

Meanwhile, Albert's words have caused a slight stir in the others within the hall. They whisper to each other, shift in their seats. The dark man and the woman however only betray eyes narrowed in concern.

"Hmmm. Curiouser and curiouser." The woman's apparent superior rubs his chin looking slightly down at Albert, being a little taller than him. "So you've come to report an Ender mister...Rhinegard?" He snaps his fingers and the woman steps forward with hands out. "Surrender any weapons, and then we will gather in the meeting chamber to discuss these grave assertions of yours." Then all of the red garbed people stand from their chairs and wait. This time they are not relaxed, but poised.

"An Ender? That's an interesting name." Albert looks at the other people as they stand for a moment before holding out his weapons willingly, "I also certainly hope we will be getting these back. Trust must start somewhere." This might be the point where they imprison and murder us of course. Let us hope not. There was very little that Albert himself could do if they chose such an option, but Benjie and Anne combined might be able to fight them off. And who knows what Albert might be able to pull off in the heat of the moment with his magic.

Honestly Benjie could care less what the lady with the glasses thought of them. He ignored her until the big fellow demanded they turn over their weapons. The guerrilla snorted in disgust at the order, but noted that their hosts's demanor changed instantly into combat stances. Benjie would've fought them if it wasn't the fact that they had bigger concerns. Even so he hesitated to follow Albert's example.

What's stopping these red parrots from murdering us after we explain our story? Or maybe they've torture us first. Plenty of that happen back home.

For the longest moment, Benjie stood motionless until with a reluctant sigh, he began to disarm himself. First it was the M1 carbine slung from his left shoulder, the pistol in a holster, then the last grenade in one of his pockets. Finally the bolo knife was brought out last, Benjie spared a momentarily glance toward the blade then turned it over.

"I better have this knife back later."

Benjie said, glaring toward the lady with the specs and added in Tagalog.

"O magkakaroon sheol ibayad."

The woman, ignorant of Benjie's warning, hands off Albert's weapons to another who has stepped up to help, and marvels at Benjie's. "A soldier of an age we have not seen. " She states a thought aloud but says nothing more as she takes his weapons, and hands those off to a second volunteer. Coming to Anne, she pretty much looks down her nose at the pirate woman while presenting her hands.

Anne, with a look to match the other woman's, likewise surrenders her two pistols, cutlass, and dagger from her left boot. The third pistol, Mary's pistol, she keeps in the bag. It's unloaded, so next to useless anyway. "Fair warning. I'm no less dangerous without those." She says while looking the as-yet unnamed woman in the eye.

"Der Schein kann trügen. Understood." replies the woman.

"Pardon Delilah. Field Operatives tend to be rougher around the edges." the man, the host apparently, apologizes. Delilah and the two volunteers take the weapons through a side door. "Come, follow me." The host turns and leads the trio through a door at the back of the hall. They enter a smaller chamber, which is a half-circle in shape with rows of bench seats facing the center where they enter. Light comes down from windows at the top, and the trio also find themselves under the gaze of two large oil paintings hung over top of the seats, their subjects named on plaques below them respectively.

The guild members take seats in the first row, the host at the center. This leaves the Strangers to stand before them all. Delilah and the two volunteers come in after everyone else, empty handed. She takes her seat next to the host, who raises his hands in welcome to the three Strangers.

"Welcome, Strangers. I am Odallwa Kenno, Senior Operative of The Red Shield Guild for this, the York branch. You've come at a time we Seniors and our top Field Operatives, minus our colleagues in Doren, have gathered for a conference and also to celebrate the peace of our two kingdoms together." He leans forward on his elbows. "But in keeping with our mandate, if you have truly come with news that may threaten our peace, we will hear you out and forgo our usual process when meeting new Strangers. Please, explain if you will, what has brought you here."

Albert almost begin to chastise Benjie before deciding against antagonizing the man, particularly as he was a soldier of the US Army apparently. That ingrained respect for the military did remain within Albert, as it did with many Americans. Anne also almost gained his chastisement, but to appear divided now might be a severe mistake. Following the group quietly into what seemed to be an auditorium, Albert made his way towards the center as expected, looking at what were apparently paintings of the King and Queen, I really do wonder if that's the Richard III of the whole Lionheart fame or whatever. Makes sense. Again though, maybe I'm totally wrong.

Turning about to face the group as they take their seats, Albert removed his helmet and runs his hand through his hair, feeling somewhat nervous. Today and even yesterday have been amazingly nerve-racking for the man, and yet he's managed to perform fairly well all things considered. Of course, perhaps he's simply lost his sanity as a result of ending up in an insane world.

He begins with the helm held at his front, "Indeed, there is a grave danger to your kingdom, and its name is Adolf Hitler. I'm not sure you've heard of this man, but he comes from our world, a time when the entire planet was in conflict against him and his allies. Over a hundred nations were involved. Millions of soldiers. And it wasn't an easy victory. Now, we have evidence that this man has come here, as a Stranger, and who knows what kind of powers he has. We were first attacked by bandits led by another Stranger at a village of... erm..." Albert looks to Anne for a moment, before blurting, "cat people, I suppose," and then continuing, "We encountered another of their rank after dispelling them at a different camp on the way here. He informed us of the existence of this other charismatic Stranger, though did not specifically name him. Not long afterwords, that camp too was attacked. It was almost completely destroyed despite being under the guard of the Stranger Jim Morrison. And now, we have arrived here, certain of the existence of Hitler upon this plane, and certain of the intensely grave danger he poses. The man is incredibly charismatic to the downtrodden, and often uses race to fuel hatred. The bandits that attacked us were human supremacists for instance. There are other details I could go into about Hitler's danger, but this is the jist of it."

Perhaps he overdid it, yet given everything that has happen and past experiences Benjie wasn't thrilled that his fate had to be decided by a group he didn't really know. These Red Shield types obviously mistrusted anybody from Earth, which likely included them. The sergeant noted the chamber they entered with an admiring gaze before, spotting the pictures of the reigning monarchs.

Just like the British, obsessed with royalty. At least they don't worship them. Unlike the Japanese bastards with their Emperor.

Benjie stood on the left hand of Albert, while the American spoke to the Guild members. He raised an eyebrow when Al mentioned cat people but remained silent, through the rest of the monologue.

So we did win. He's right, there was noting easy about it.

The guerrilla thought bitterly. Then looking up at Odallwa, the senior operative, Benjie spoke up.

"Albert is speaking the truth, because I come from that time. I fought for almost three years against one of those nations allied with Hitler when they invaded my homeland."

Then all present who were paying attention would watch as Benjie lowered his head and closed his fists, shaking with barely controlled emotions. Looking back up, he added in an eerily calm tone.

"It was a living hell."

There is a stir among the assembled men and women upon first hearing the name Adolf Hitler, but while Albert speaks it is only expressed as a passing of knowing glances between the Red Shields. When Benjie has his turn to speak, the people become motionless, as if suddenly deep in thought. Odallwa and one of the other Red Shield, the oldest by the gray hair and muttonchops, nod when he says 'It was living in hell' but say no more, waiting for Anne to have her turn if she takes it.

And take her turn she does. Anne crosses her arms over her chest, and addresses the assembled in a louder tone than her fellows. "The 'cat people' Albert mentioned, are my people. My...new people. They've treated me better than any human from me own world ever has..." Anne stops a second but contiues on "And I've come here not cause I care at all for the rest of the world, but for them. They're simple people, who want nuttin' more than to keep what they've earned by their own strength. So long as it helps my cat folk, I'm willing to slit any throat, crush under my boot the skull of anyone in my way." Anne steps back.

The chamber is quiet for a while, with the members now whispering whatever they have been keeping quiet before.
"Can we fight a war?"
"Of course not and we won't be expected to fight a war alone, if fight we must."

Odallwa quickly silences the others with the single strike of a baton, taken from an inner pocket of his garb, upon the desk before him. He is not angry, but stoic, and the strike makes the others alike to him.

Throughout the speeches, the Field Operative known as Delilah has been just as stoic, unmoved.

"We have knowledge of this Adolf Hitler, Mister Rhinegard." Odallwa began looking down at the younger man. "Shortly after the formation of our Guild, a Stranger was found wandering the streets of York by the name of David Bowie. He was among our first recorded individuals, and he has to date provided the most knowledge about the later ages of your world. He made special mention of this Hitler when he was informed of how, from time to time, our world receives people of some significance from yours." Odallwa sighs, brings his hands together. "He warned us, that if we should find a man by the name of Adolf Hitler, to give him no quarter, as to do so could be the ruin of our Kingdoms." And anticipating his compatriot has something to say, he gestures with his hand to give their attention to Delilah.

The woman gives Albert an intense stare from behind her round glasses as she speaks. "Rest assured, we will inform King Richard of this danger. But we have learned enough of your world and it's language, to infer that your surname is of Germany. The land Hitler ruled at one time." She leans forward and her eyes narrow even further. "Which brings us to ask: what were you in your world, Mr. Rhinegard? Were you some form of statesmen? A soldier? A criminal of some renown as we've gathered the redhaired woman most certainly is?"

Albert Rhinegard

Albert cheeks flare up with a toasty red as he scratches them, feeling embarrassed and nervous. He hadn't really considered they might question what he had been on Earth, and wasn't entirely sure what to say. For a few moments, he stumbled over his words, mumbling some incoherent things before finally managing while looking at the floor, "I was basically a common man in university, trying to make something of myself. Never managed to. I don't really know why I'm here when people like Anne and Hitler are chosen to come. My knowledge comes from a constant desire for new information, and the fact I had access to something known as the 'Internet' in my world. Essentially an endless repository of information." Having mostly revealed that man he was, and essentially still was, Albert couldn't say much more or make eye contact with anything, so overcome with shame as he was.

Then it was Anne's turn who didn't shy away from what she had to say. The way the red haired pirate spoke about the cat people, made Benjie realized something about her.

She has found a family here.

Benjie respected that sentiment, a person should at least have somebody or something in life to care about. He then focus attention back on the Red Shield members and could only make out a few of the words whispered among themselves. If noting else they have their attention, the guerrilla realized but what that meant for him, Albert, and Anne he wondered. When Odallwa let his subordinate Delilah take over the interrogation, Benjie grew more wary.

Those cool impassive eyes reminded him, of some intelligence officers, he encountered during the war. Many of them whom were of the infamous Japanese Kempeitai(military secret police). The way she questioned Albert about his origins drew further comparison, he hoped she didn't have the authority to employ far more intense methods...

His body ache from old sores he rather forget, until hearing Al describe himself.

A college boy huh, go figure. What the hell is internet? It sure doesn't sound like a book

It was in that moment, Benjie turned from Al and said to Delilah.

"He's an American, perhaps with some German blood but American nonetheless. If your 'report' was indeed informative, then you people would know that many of Albert's countrymen, regardless of their own issues, fought in that war at great cost against the Axis Powers."

Pausing for a moment to catch his breath and remembering the fallen he referred to, Benjie then pointed at Albert's attire with his left index finger and continued.

"He got that armor and gear off one of the raiders we slew back in the camp attack. Earlier you people mistaken Al for a local in this same outfit until he explained himself. So while you go on suspecting every 'stranger' as enemy agents then better start checking your own damn ranks too!"

He said the latter words with a disgusted glare that silently accused the glasses-wearing operative of being a hypocrite.

"That failed painter of a dictator seemed to have already gained some native born followers from your lands. By such evidence alone we have as much reason to suspect your people as you have with us."

"He's right!" Anne stomps her right foot down, the action resounding very loudly in the hall. Delilah rises suddenly but Odallwa stops her from making any other action by simply tapping the wooden baton on the table in front of her and giving a stern look. The woman sits, but keeps glaring at Anne. The pirate woman is unfazed by the sudden movement and looks around at the others as she speaks. "Most of the people we've had to fight here? They were natives! So what's wrong wit your world that men are coming to Hitler's cause?! Instead of tryin' to rattle us for answers, we should be out there hunting them down!"

A hush falls over the Red Shields. Not even glances are shared until Odallwa rises and addresses the three Strangers, taking a deep breath before he does so and holding the baton to his chest.

"Again, I find myself apologizing for Delilah. You three have made your points, and made them clear. To you, good soldier, I and others can empathize with." Odallwa gives Benny a slight bow and nod "I too was a soldier of a long and bloody conflict on behalf of the country I loved with all my soul. The Kingdoms of Gatecia and Linia, before the ascension of the Brother Kings, were two nations who could only hate another for generations. Entire families, clans, knew only the life and art of combat in this war. And it is my speculation, only a speculation, that the men you encountered may in fact be of those families who could not accept the peace when it finally came. " Odallwa gestures to Delilah with a slight wave of his hand. "Delilah is of one such family. But rest assured though she is less than welcoming, she only acts in defense of her people. As you would for your nation, and you for the Barbin." He gestures at first Benny, then Anne, who steps back and relaxes a little.

"That being said," Odallwa starts again, sitting down and replacing the baton within his coat. "We cannot grant you an audience with His Majesty King Richard. For that, we must appeal to the White Guard first, who I am certain will allow it as His Majesty is fond of meeting Strangers who enter his lands. It may take a day or more for that audience, as His Majesty is currently away on a tour of the land as part of the celebrations. And so please, while I know you are adamant action must be taken now, it simply cannot be so. Will that be an issue?"

Albert listens quietly to Benjie, feeling somewhat better about the man covering for him, though he was surprised Benjie was so apt to rush to Albert's aid. Perhaps it was simply because Benjie was part of the Allies back then. Anne's speech made Albert jump a little, though for that one too, he remained quiet.

Odallwa's explanation of his past drew some interesting conclusions, and made Albert wonder why he himself was here. He wasn't here for country. It might be said that Albert was here for Yuzuki, but it was insane that a woman he'd known for a few days at most would be enough to fight for. Then there was the problem of why Albert was in this world at all. Everyone else here that was 'chosen' seemed to have special abilities or remarkable pasts, yet Albert did not. It was an interesting question, one that seemed like it would never be answered.

"I do not believe it will be an issue. We will have our weapons back and be given a place to stay as well as food, yes," asked Albert once Odallwa was done. Complaining at this point would accomplish nothing other than ruffling the feathers of their guests.

There goes that Irish temper. Father Cassidy, God rest his soul would be laughing right now, if he saw any of this.

Benjie thought listening to the pirate woman's outburst and nearly fell when she displayed her ground shaking power once more. When Deliah stood, the Filipino believed for a moment that this interrogation would turn into a melee until Odallwa reined in his fierce subordinate. The senior agent then began his explanation.

Sergeant Delfino couldn't help but slightly lessen his tense stance as a result, quietly impressed with Odallwa's level of command and diplomatic approach. He could now see in the big man's eyes, the look that survivors of conflicts could only exchange with one another. Sure they're literally worlds apart in culture and technology, but Benjie could at least relate to the other man's desire in protecting one's home.

Begrudgingly, Benjie admitted if he was in these people's position he would be suspicious of unknown outsiders that show up out of nowhere.

So their king is fascinated with us Stragners. That could play into our advantage, in getting his audience soon enough. As for Anne's request though, I'm not sure...it will depend on this ruler's priorities.

Then Albert took his next turn, asking for their gear, some food to eat, and lodgings. Nodding in approval, Benjie stood back and kept quiet.

"What you ask for, is in part what our guild was established to provide for Strangers." Odallwa smiles and puts the baton away into an inner pocket of his coat. "We will return your weapons, and provide you a place to rest while we await the return of King Richard. Of course there is the matter of our normal process when encountering new Strangers, before we can allow you to roam around York. Even with an escort; which we must insist on to avoid unnecessary conflict." Odallwa says, putting up a hand defensively as he expects less than enthusiastic responses. "It will not be a lengthy process, as some questions we would ask have already been answered. And you will also have a chance to ask questions of us." He stops talking to allow the trio to speak.

Anne is the first to ask a question. "Will there be food and rum?"

"Of course we will provide both. We pride ourselves on hospitality." Odallwa chuckles "Certain company excluded."

"Rum and conversation is fine fer me." Anne looks pointedly at Delilah "Just not wit her. Farther I am from her, the better."

"She will be busy passing on our urgent request to the White Guard." Odallwa answers. He then says to the assembly "I declare us dismissed. I will need two volunteers to interview the lady and the soldier. I will take Mr. Rhinegard. The rest of you may dismiss, and we will meet at The Count's Tavern at our appointed time for our feast."

As the rest of Red Shield files out, the older man and his subordinate remain as volunteers. The younger approaches Anne, smiling nervously "H-hello miss. I'm Temna. If you want we could maybe go to The Count's Tavern early?"

Anne, much to the young meek man's surprise, throws an arm around him and grins "Why certainly! I don't mind at all!" She more or less forces Temna along with her as she makes for the door, and waves after the other two. "Have fuuuun boys! I know I am!"

Temna's older compatriot and Odallwa openly laugh watching them leave before approaching their respective subjects.

"Greetings, I am Velano Geirfried." The gray-haired man says to Benjie while extending his hand and giving a friendly smile "Senior Operative of Red Shield, and formerly a Captain in His Majesty's Army. A pleasure to meet a soldier of another world."

Odallwa comes up to Albert, and beckons him to follow with a wide smile that shows his bright teeth. "Come Mr. Rhinegard. To my office. I'm sure we have much to learn from one another."
