[fieldbox="St. Brendan Harbor, lightseagreen, solid, 10, BookAntiqua"]St.Brendan Harbor is a small to medium sized town in mid-northern Maine along the coast. It is built partially on a cliff, wrapping southward and down a slope and bending towards the ocean.

Up on the cliff area is a Lighthouse which overlooks the harbor. Also on the cliff and spreading westward is dotted with small animal farms. These are mostly family farms. At the very northern end of the sloped part of town are a couple small farming stores and a mom and pop automobile shop.

On the slope leading down is where the more 'mainstream' shopping is with a couple small diners, a McDonalds, Baskin Robins, and Applebees. There's also a Save-A-Lot grocery store, a GoodWill, and a Target. Going west away from the seaside you get a very small hospital that pretty much a clinic with an ER, the fire station, and the police station.

As you get closer to the harbor you get some more touristy little souvenir shops and shops for fishing equipment. There is also the high school and tech college close to the harbor.

Fishing is a very important part of St. Brendan's and the harbor is also bustling with fisherman. There was some people that live on their boats and some houses on the harbor and on the beach stretching southward.

Is you go straight west, past the touristy part of town, you get to the poorer part of town with some smaller family homes, a little cinema, the shelter, and eventually on the very outskirts a trailer park.

Navigator Elementary School Sports/Clubs

• Navigator Elementary School is located on the west side of town near the Junior High. It goes K-6.
  It has shop classes for all grades at the school, though what you get to do depends on your age.

• St. Brendan Junior High is for grades 7-9. It is located on the west side of town near the elementary school. While it is on a beautiful campus there is sometimes a shortage of teachers and not a lot of programs and sports due to a lack of funding. St. Brendan High School Apprenticeship Program College Prep Program Sports/Clubs

• St. Brendan High School is for grades 10-12. It is located on the east side of town near the harbor. Like the other schools St. Brendan High has troubles with funding. While it does have a college prep program it is a high school mostly focused on the trades. It has two programs an apprenticeship/trade program, and a smaller college prep program.
  
  
  
  
  
  
• Students in this program must fufill basic education requirements along with their chosen program requirements to graduate.
  
  The basic education needs include one semester of maths, one semester of writing/English, 3 semesters of 'personal growth(EX: home ec, personal finances, etc), and one semester with a science(Chemistry or Biology)
  
  The programs you can go into are carpentry, electrician, construction, or mechanics. After graduation the school tries to get students set up at the vocational school or with apprenticeships. This doesn't always work however.
  
  There are also some sections that are almost in bewteen college prep and apprenticeship. Those are the health program that works with CNA and EMR programs and the teaching assistant program.

  The college prep program is supposed to inspire students to get a higher education. It continues with high english, science, maths, etc classes. Graduation requirements are those of a normal high school, though students are expected to keep a higher GPA.
  
  The college prep programs struggles to get teachers for the higher level classes and doesn't have as many students as the apprenticeship program.

Three Habors Community College Trade Programs Associates Degree/Medical Programs

• 
  
  The Community college is called Three Harbors because it has students mostly from St. Brendan and the little villages/towns that are near St. Brendan, which includes two other smaller harbors. (They got really creative with the name). It is located on the east side of town across from the high school on the harbors side. From some windows you can see the ocean.
  
  
  
  
  
  
• These programs take anywhere from 6 month to two years and you come out with a certificate. The programs are for carpentry, auto mechanics, marine mechanics, plumbing, construction, and electricians.
• These programs generally take 2 years to complete(Some certificates take less and some programs a little more). You can get basic associates degrees here and also take cheap gen ed classes if you want to work on a bachelor's or, as some high school students, try some harder classes academically then the high school can offer. Some of the college prep students will go here for classes since the high school college prep program is struggling and doesn't challenge them enough,
  
  You can also get certifications for child care and teaching assistant programs here. The community college and hospital work together to create the CNA, EMR, EMT, AEMT, and Paramedic programs.

Farming Fishing Tourism Other Child Care Volunteering

  While most of the farms are family owned(With varying degrees of success), they will hire farm hands especially during tourist season.
  This is a common summer job for high schoolers.
  
  During non-tourist family kids of all ages work and do chores on the farm and the biggest of the farms, which is a mile north of the light house, is generally willing to hire part time farm hands all year-round.
  
  Some farms also sell dairy products, wool, and meat to local stores, restuarants, and at the farmers markets.
  
  Some farms will sell some vegetables and such from their gardens, though non-farmers do that too.

  Deck hands are always being hired by fishermen for part time employment. This is a common job for late high schoolers and people at the tech college. Families who own a boat will commonly have their children of all ages working on it.
  
  There are also fishermen/women who own their own fish and will sell them at the fish/farmers market and too the grocery stores and restuarants in town.
• 
  
  Tourist season is pretty big for St. Brendan Harbor.
  
  There are many jobs on the farms, giving boat tours, and fishing tours. Working busses and taxis is also another job that hires a lot during tourist season to take people to the historical sites, lodges, the farms, stores, etc.
  
  Toruist season sees a huge influx of people and thusly a lot more jobs. The little tourists shops also tend to hirer more people and the stores will stay open longer.

  There are of course ordinary jobs at the supermarket, gas station, custodial work, police officers, fire station, EMS, etc.
  
  Places like the docks, mechanic shops, and maintence companies will hire skilled workers to help fix and create things.

  The Community college runs the daycare programs in town. During the year the daycare is held at the community college and during the summer it's held at the elementary school. It is staffed by students in the Teaching Assistant and Child Care programs to help them get work experience and provide cheerer childcare for the locals. There are some staff that are there longterm who help run all the programs and ensure that it is done properly.

  There are volunteer positions at the shelters(There is a homeless shelter and a women's shelter). Some farms take volunteers, the fire department and EMS take volunteers.
  
  There are some various other volunteer oppertunities also like Big Brothers/BIg Sisters, leading clubs, etc.

  - Dassah lives in a loft/studio right above the Times Square Pizza Parlor. There are two little lofts up there. It's a small place with a loft for the bedroom. The loft is just high enough for the queen size mattress to be propped up on some low crates for storage and Dassah has her old footlocker from the army up there for storage too. Her other old army gear she's keeps in the back of her jeep unless she needs to move furniture around for her projects.
  The area with the TV is her boyfriend Jameson's officer and Dassah generally keeps her tools semi neat in the area in front of the two smaller rooms. That is where she also keeps her projects, though she'll push them to the side when she's done.
  The apartment is a temporary solution for Dassah and at some point she wants to move somewhere where she has a bigger workshop. Having a small space doesn't bug her, she justw ants more room to work.

  -Quiet, tough, calm, hard working, fidgety, detail oriented
  
  -Quiet/Tough/Caring: Dassah has a quiet seriousness about her. She is a tomboy, but not the boitrous loud kind. While she can have fun, and does smile, she is never loud about her merriment. She's a tough young woman who's seen things in her life that haunt her and probably will for her whole life. This can be a problem because she can come off as uncaring or stonewalling people. While she is an introvert and needs time to herself to recharge she also care about people a lot, but she tends to give off the wrong impression.
  
  Hard Working/Fidgety: Dassah doesn't let her quiet seriousness become brooding however. Nor does she let it drag her down. She is always moving, always doing something. When she's at the hospital running calls her fidgety energy keeps her on alert and awake as she worked her long 12+ hour shifts. Her woodworking at home and working out help keep her busy. Keeping her mind and body busy helps her keep from letting her thoughts take over and consume her.
  
  Calm Under Fire/Detail Oriented: Dassah is very detail oriented. This helped when preparing bodies for burial or when trying to recover everything when in the field collecting casualties and their personal possessions. It also helps when she's on a call and she needs to see the details of the situation and stay calm while everything is hectic around her.

However they did not see each other again until Dassah went to her first duty station at Arlington. Jameson was station in Indonesia, but was home on some R&R for the holidays. His parents were in Washington D.C. at the time so he went there.
  While he was there Dassah met up with him and hung out. They'd wrote letters and talked to each other since highschool and it was right before Jameson left for Indonesia they started dating. They've now been dating for almost 6 years, but haven't lived with each other until they both came to St. Brendan. Between Jameson always moving for his work and Dassah being in totally different places for hers it's been a long distance relationship with them meeting up now and again for dates/holidays.   -Hadassah's father married her mother young. They 18 and 21. Her father already had one boy from a failed high school relationship. A year later Dassah and her twin, Reuben were born. The family was poor her father worked on the docks and her mother was a part time waitress. When Dassah was 7, right after her baby sister was born, her mother was taking Reuben to the doctor to get a physical to join Hockey club. They were headed back late and a drunk group of tourists suddenly ran across the road. Dassah's mom spun out trying not to hit them and couldn't regain control of the car. They ended up spinning right into an oncoming semi-truck and were both killed on impact.
  Dassah's father did his best to raise her and her brothers, but developed crippling depression. Dassah enlisted at 17 as soon as she graduated as way to escape her hometown. She was sent to be a 92M or Mortuary Affairs Specialist because she has extremely good attention to detail and demonstrated a high level professionalism even in bootcamp.
  Her first station was in Arlington(Attached to the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment) and after three years there she deployed with the 111th Quartermaster Company twice, back to back.
  During her second deployment she was awarded the Honorable Order of Saint Martin for having "demonstrated the highest standards of integrity, moral character, and have displayed an outstanding degree of professional competence" during her time there.
  Sadly a little before and upon her return Dassah started to develop depression and minor PTSD from the things she'd seen while both working in Arlington and recovering bodies and personal artifacts on service members overseas. She struggled to hide for a while, but at the end of her 6 year commitment decided it was best for her to not re-enlist. She doesn't really talk about her depression or how bad it got she just tries to keep herself from getting back in that mentality.
  After she got Dassah wasn't really sure what to do with her life. She returned to her hometown in hopes of facing some of her ghosts and restarting her life. By the time she got back last year her youngest sister had gradutaed and headed to college and her father had fled town to try adn escape his depression. Malachi, who'd joined the Navy before Dassah joined the army is still in the navy, and Eliazar became a cruise ship captain.
  Dassah started working as a waitress and got her EMT certification. She chose to become an EMT because she sees it as she actually gets to help people now and not just pick up and prepare their remains. At the moment she's thinking about what she wants to do with her life, she loves being an EMT, but also wants to enter the trades or maybe farmwork.

Her dad doesn't know much about her and only has 2 styles he can actually figure out. The one in the picture where he tightly braids it around the side and to the back, but leaves her natural volume on top and partially on the sides and he can give her two braids on the side of her head. (He learned these from YouTube videos and actually will look up how to do his daughter's hair to try and learn new things.)
  Zaki's eyebrows are thin and sharply curved. Her eyelashes are very thick and dark.

  Easy Going/Happy: Zaki is a very happy 5 year old. She is extremely positive and can roll with just about anything. It doesn't take much to please her or make her smile which helps her handle tough situations in life.
  
  Creative/Energetic: Zaki is very creative. She loves to draw and dance. She isn't extremely talented in those area, but she has a big heart and a lot of energy which makes up for her lack of talent. Zaki tries hard and puts her all into everything she does. Later in life this tends to exhaust her because she doesn't tend to know when enough is enough.
  
  Feisty/Stubborn/Independent: Zaki is a little fire cracker. While she is normally easy going she also has her own opinion and she will let you know it. She's not going to be angered by your opinion or get frustrated by people, but she won't give up her own opinion easily either. Don't take her easy going nature as being a doormat. While she can roll with just about anything and tries not to let things effect her she still likes to stand on her own two feet and be her own girl.

  Her bedroom is simple. She doesn't own a lot of stuff so the space doesn't really matter. One thing she does want to do is get a dresser to DIY, it's not that she has a lot of clothes to store Petra just enjoys doing things with her hands.

  She wants to do Hockey and maybe Soccer, but the school is stalling on giving her permission. Some faculty members say this is because she's not caught up in schooling and they think it wouldn't be wise to let her do clubs when she's behind, some say she's too small to play with her age group, and there are even more excuses why they won't let her into the clubs yet. In reality it's probably her paperwork is a mess. Her social worker and Kelley had to jump through a lot of hoops to get her enrolled in the school to begin with without having an actual birth certificate, past school records, or medical history the school officials were not keen to allow her in.

  Hair; - Her hair is black and stiff. She keeps it short, in a boyish haircut, and it normally stick up straight in a spiky cut. It tends to look greasy because she doesn't shower alot, and even if she did her hair gets greasy quickly. Her eyebrows are thin and dark and her eye lashes are also dark, but they're also thick.
  
  Eyes; - Her eyes are brown. They are a starburst getting lighter closer to the pupil. Despite what she's been through they have a slight sparkle to them. It's a small sparkle, barely there, but it's there.

  -Tough: Pete is very tough, she has to be to have lived the way she has. She won't let people see when stuff gets to her because she thinks showing weakness will only lead to getting hurt.

  -Pete was born in Romania. Her mother was very young and abandoned her behind a restaurant when she was just a week old. She was taken to an orphanage and lived there until she turned 5.
  At 5 she was kicked out into the streets because she was too old for the baby home and all the older institutions were either too full for her or she wasn't 'disabled' enough for.
  Pete was taken in by a human trafficking ring because they promised to feed her and 'be her family'. She was forced into prostitution and when she was 8 she was transported to America, specifically New Portland, ME.
  When she was 10 the FBI busted the brothel she was in and she was put into the foster system because sending her back would just mean she'd got back to prostitution.
  Pete been fostered a couple, but never for that long. Her social worker recently placed her with Kelley because there were no open group homes and no one else had been able to handle her.

  -Jibriil's mother was 13. She raped by a group of men while walking to school and died during childbirth. HIs grandfather went after the men who'd hurt his daughter and ended up being killed in the fight that ensued. His grandmother took Jibriil in and raised him as her own. Astur had been he ronly surviving child and now that she was gone and her husband was gone she put her all into raising her grandson.
  Jibriil was working at an orphanage at the age of 15 taking care of younger children when he met Nikeisha who was there on a missoin trip her father made her go on. At the time he was also working in on a farm when not working in the orphanage to earn more money. He and Nike seemed to hit it off. After Nike left to go back to the states they wrote back and forth, she taught Jibriil to write English much better. When Jibriil was 18 he and his grandmother had finally saved enough for him to get avis and go to the state. JIbriil showed up on Nike's doorstep one day with no money, but a hand made wooden ring asking her to marry him. She agreed.
  They lived together for a little bit while Jibriil saved to try and bring his grandmother to the states and get his citizenship. When Nike got pregnant she freaked out not wanting to havea child. Jibriil convinced her to have the baby, but as soon as Zakiyah was born she left him.
  For a while Jibriil scrambled to get enough money for citizenship so he wouldn't be deported. He got his citizenship, but had to restart saving for his grandmother to come to the states. He struggled to keep his little family's head above water since Anston was already a poor town going through some serious financial problems due to a lumber company that employed a lot of people there going belly up.
  Jibriil moved to St. Brendan when Zakiyah was 1 to get a fresh start. He works hard and is currently almost to the amount of money to start getting his grandmother here again. Jibriil wants to buy a house and get an education eventually, but his first priority is his grandmother who he writes to regularly.

  -Eamon has spent his whole life in St. Brendan Harbor, though he ha straveled to visit family. His mother had 2 miscarriages before Eamon was born and 4 more(One set of twins) before Grady was born. After Grady was born the doctor told her it would be best she try to not have anymore. Eamon's mom always wanted a big family s this broke her heart. At the time she was working full time at a hotel as a day manager. Eamon and Grady would go to the local day care during the day. When Grady was less then a year old and Eamon was almost 4 one of the workers at the care shook Grady because she got frustrated. While another worker stepped in quickly and Grady was rushed to the hospital the damage was already done. Eamon's mom quit her job to take care of Grady full time.
  Grady is high functioning considering what he's been through. The doctor's and teachers aren't sure he'll ever progress past 3 in mental age. Grady is not full wheelchair bound anymore and will crawl or use crutches around the house, but during school or when going out for a long time he uses his chair. Eamon used to and still does now and then take Grady on adventures where he'd find somewhere he could buily a fort or have fun and Eamon would push his chair there. Eamon tried to build a tree house with a sort of dumb waiter to get his brother into at the age of 7 and ended up with a scar on his knee.
  It was just last year Eamon's aunt moved in after a nasty divorce with her husband, who had been abusive. His parents allowed her to move in so she could have a safe place for herself and the little ones while she got back on her feet.

  -Ocki is third generation American. His grandparents actually owned a goat farm in a near by town. His mother wa 15 when she had him. Her boyfriend at the time left her and her parents told her she either needed to give the baby up or leave their house. his mother was desperate to give Ocki a good life and knew she couldn't do that right now. She didn't find an adoptive family until Ocki was 1. By this time she and Ocki were living in a shelter because she'd been kicked out. It took so long because his mother refused to put him into the foster system since she worried he'd be hurt.

  Amelia manages to keep a small, two bedroom, 1 bathroom apartment over her and her children's heads. Inside, the apartment is bright and modern but with a hidden rustic charm. Eventually that will change... either when Zayla turns seven or, hopefully, if they become financially able to move... whichever comes first. If they are still in the apartment, Amelia has resided to the fact that she will end up on the couch... after all, it's not the children's fault that they can't afford anything.   Amelia sports a 2011, Honda Civic in a dusky grey color. When it was brand new, 6 years ago, it was one of the best cars she could have dreamed of... if she had gotten it then. Unfortunately she got it about three and a half years ago as a used car since that was cheaper. It has always had some issues with the automatic locks, and the headlights and taillights have needed replacing many more times than would be normal... but it still gets her and the babies wherever they need to go. Zayla and Braylon have lovingly taken to calling it Zabra ... combining both their names and choosing something that sounded remotely similar to Zebra... one of their favorite zoo animals.

  Being a vet and living on a working farm all at once comes with a lot of territory ... literally. The Kennedy's live at the outermost outskirts of town in a large stone and brick country house with a greyish-red roof. There is an eight-stall barn complete with a tack room, feed room, office, exam room, surgical suite, recovery room and a boarding area on their land as well. It is about a three minute walk from the house entrance to either barn entrance.
  
  The house is adorned by a simple white wood stoop and a few hedges. Upon walking in the main entrance you are greeted by an entry hallway that includes a large closet to hold linens, coats, and other necessities. Turning right from the hallway you end in the semi-open concept eat-in kitchen and living room area. There is a back door located in the right corner of the living room. There is a full bathroom off the kitchen. Turning left from the hallway you find a formal dining room, a study, and a guest bedroom.
  
  The second floor of the home comes complete with the remaining bedrooms and bathrooms of the home. Upon climbing the secluded staircase there is a larger bedroom that Xyla and Sidney share. Across from that is the master bedroom for Roman and his wife, complete with the master bathroom. Next to the master is the nursery-turned storage room that will one day function as a room for xyla or sidney... or another child if they ever add to their family. Across from the former nursery is a smaller bedroom that Caleb has taken claim of. Next to his room is a full bath and next to that is Ocki's room. Across from Ocki is another full bathroom and Evelyn's room which is on the slightly larger size ... but doesn't look it with her pig's cage taking up space.
  
  There is one additional 'floor' so to speak. It is smaller and has a low ceiling. It is the attic and is just used for additional storage.
  
  The barn has two entrances. One that is not as tall on the stone side and enters into the veterinary portion of the barn. The second entrance is much taller and on the red siding side, leading to the stables. Both sets of barn doors are weighted and can be difficult to slid open but close easily and firmly. Often times boarding and recovering equines take up the majority of the spaces ... except for the the few stalls that are always held by the family member's horse. The front end and back end each hold four stalls. In the middle is the tack room and feed room, next to one another, at the right end of the barn. At the left is the open hallway-type space that leads to Roman's office, the large exam room and the surgery suite. The recovery room is located off of Roman's office but does not have a direct entrance to the barn. The entire second floor of the barn is used for boarding animals that can go up and down stairs [so... just not most farm animals really].

  A large, navy and white 1972 Chevy Cheyenne Pickup with wooden trim. It can be a headache sometimes, but for the most part it runs well. Roman likes the challenge of fixing it. He has had this truck since he was about 20. Obviously it's not used when the entire family goes out, but it is the most suitable for farm work.
