No worries I been looking atthe other bios for insperation or limits to place on points.

One question, well two I have is;

One I notive on traits some people have -3 or so and so exp. In practical terms what does this mean? I was not able to fully grap this from what was wrote.

I'm assuming thats just the exp price of the skill, and not some penality.

Two, well I'll let him just ask if he wishes to join.

Other than that working on things, we are lacking in Tanks.

Ok, so that you see is just them telling me how much EXP they have used for that particular thing. Its more for my book keeping purposes, not for mechanic purposes.

If you want to see more spruced up bios, look on the first page of this thread.

Hey Renose, just wondering, but does Magic Power in itself one of the three ways to use magic with Word and Ritual being the other two?

Magic Power lets you acquire Magic. You need it to use Magic. Of course, you can get a couple of neat abilities with just the Magic Power Sense alone, if you want to be a bona-fide magi you need to Magic Power and one of the other Magic Senses.

Word and Ritual Magic are two ways to use Magic. They are some neat branching paths though upon advancing these Senses.

Curious, seen firearms in the listing, what are we talking about here, Muskets, revolvers or more modern weaponry? Well trying to make something if I have the time, if not I'll be sure to inform you in advance. Don't want to leave you hanging.

We are talking more older weaponry (Muskets, Flintlock Pistols, etc).

Of course, you can get some better ones later on, but for the most part its old timey firearms.

Figured, makes the most sense, or the other weapons short of "game balance" would be utterly useless.

Realistically, barring bullshit gameplay mechanics, flintlocks will still make 'medieval' weaponry obsolete. Just get a bunch of flintlock kiddos, set them to rotation, and mow down anyone in your way. Not like humans can normally dodge an almost-invisible projectile.

Well it was the weight, and slow rate of fire that allowed other weapons to survive when they first came to be (though shortlived). It was always fun unloading grapeshot in someones face, but not the 30 seconds to over a minute reload afterwards. Bayonets, Sabers, even some plate armor and bows stayed around with pole arms and spears during the first introduction of the firearm...then bit by bit, you got bagged rounds, bolts, levers, caps and casings.etc el. Left them in the dust, though I would say in some ways armor has made a comeback, what with 7 pound level 4 protection plates.

Heh give it enough time and it might even come full circle with bloody light sabers as firearms will be specialist or even larger in caliber.

Talk about absurd.

Minus a few figures in history most wouldn't carry around a few dozen handguns, plus it is a game so I question if standard reloads, speeds, and even ammunition were a thing. Would be silly in a mmo kinda, so I'll disregard most realism.

When I mean Flintlocks, I mean the old pistols that only have one shot, then you have to reload.

Basically the firearms are like more powerful crossbows that are indeed alot harder to dodge, but also take alot longer to reload and can even jam or explode if you don't reload them properly.

Also the ammunition will be expensive as hell (since you have to get bullets and gunpowder). Also their Damage doesn't scale.

To put it in the words of the Manwha that inspired me to do these Game themed RPs, Firearm users don't have much room for growth. The damage of firearms isn't enhanced by the user, its set by the weapon. So Firearm damage doesn't scale. So they are indeed useful early game, but you have to constantly upgrade and enhance, which is very expensive to maintain, and if you lose your weapon or it malfunctions you are all kinds of fucked.

Now there are Ether and Magic Guns, but obviously the key difference there is that those will be alot easier to dodge and they just shoot magical/elemental projectiles, ones that aren't as fast as bullets and obviously not nearly invisible to the naked eye.

So yes, Firearms may seem powerful, but they are full of huge amounts of problems. Players of the Game who do use Firearms either use them as a sort of secondary, shoot once then put away type of thing or they go for the Magic/Ether Guns (which take a while to get to).

Yea, so they are... somewhat useful?

But not game breaking. Trust me.

Also if your CS has been accepted by me, then you are ok to post in the IC.

Ether/Magic Guns are the somewhat real stars of firearms, but those require a good bit of specialization to utilize since you need Magic or Ether, Crafting, and a good number of other things to properly prepare, utilize, and maintain them.

But yea, a player who uses the regular, heavy hitting mundane firearms will usually only carry them as a secondary. Basically "I shoot my gun, it hits, then I put it away and go to using my main weapon or strategy".

I like the idea of firearms, but come up with many logical ways to balance the ever living hell out of them. Yes they are strong, but they are ridiculously hard to use and even harder to maintain and supply ammunition for.

So what, firearms have Attack Speed penalties? But, at the very worst, they'll still be able to shoot once per round, right? Cause you can't have 0 Actions per turn?

Probably have to deal with reloads, jamming, possibly detonation if critical failure occurs?, etc.

I shall add this in to the Updates section.

Yes you can shoot once, but then you have to spend a good bit reloading (at least 2, if not more for larger firearms, actions). If you reload improperly (fail a Roll for the Firearms Score, which determines your ability to maintain firearms) then the gun will actually jam. If you fail by an even greater amount, then the gun will actually malfunction and become unusable until you can sit down for a short bit and do a quick little bit of maintenance. If you Fumble, then the gun actually explodes and is destroyed. Note this roll is only for reloading during combat though.

So as I mentioned, Firearms are good one time secondary attacks, but after that they are best put away and used for other things.

I need to update the Firearms Sense.

Also while you could just say "Renose, couldn't I just carry 50 guns around then?"

One, guns are very, very expensive and kind of hard to get.

Two limited inventory space.

Three, you are wide open while switching through all of your guns.

Remember, Firearms don't scale damage. Their damage is very static, so if you wanted stronger ones you have to be willing to shell out more time and money to upgrade them.

They are rare, expensive, and kind of hard to use. So yes they can be worth it, but in my personal opinion they are a secondary strategy at best. I mean, you could find a way to make them work, but it would take a very long while where you focus only in firearms. Overall... meh.

I just like giving people the option, I just don't encourage them to main it though XD

I'll stick with my bow honestly. Unless something comes up preventing me from devoting time to this. Which is possible, but I stated that from the start, I'll have an answer tomorrow for sure.

Cool.

Anyway, enough on firearms talk, although I am glad that it was brought up since that is a very good question. More game balancing GO.

Can't wait to see everyone's first posts ^^

If firearms are rare and expensive...

Why don't people just get a free firearm, then sell it once the game begins, and start off with extra cash-money?
