Re: Soldiers of Misfortune

Yes! I think I just needed to get excited about playing something I haven't done before.

Re: Soldiers of Misfortune

I'm doing some back ground for the equipment Hayden's bringing to the party.

Spherids are globular in shape, with a skeleton made of a strange substance that seems half yellow-born bone and bits of metal. That solid structure creates a sort of skeletal outline which is fleshed out by a sort of spherical mass of energy, usually bright blue, but a variety of other colours exist as well. Within this glowing mass, one can often make out various more solid shapes, seemingly floating around in the concentrated energy as if they were cell organelles. In particular, they seem to orbit another spherical shape within the creature; a nucleus-like organelle that also looks like a single large eye. These energy-based beings also tend to have long and spindly multi-jointed limb-like arms, joined together by bonds of occasionally solidified energy. Many of them have these rings that seem to spin around inside of them, regulating and generating additional energy for them. You could say a spherid's skeletal structure looks like the following:

testimony1024x768.jpg

(That's the cover of Pestilence's "Testimony of the Ancients", released in 1991 by the way. Good death metal with a chilling story told in its lyrics)

Not all spherids actually look like spheres. Cube shaped ones, ones shaped almost like humans, and even seemingly bacteria like ones exist, but these tend to be specialized types.

Spherids can speak a variety of languages, communicating by fluctuating and twisting energy flows within them to create sounds that communicate seemingly vague ideas, incredibly specific if you're able to understand their language. It sounds basically like ambient music, only less musical. They can create the sounds of other languages, but usually they have that odd pseudo-musical element to them, sounding like there's some strange electronic device generating it. All spherids can communicate to one another incredibly precisely without really using any words but rather raw thoughts via a sort of energy-transmission ability.

These creatures have a seemingly minimalistic sort of technology, using sparse elements of the artificial and combining it with their formiddable energy manipulating abilities. Their architecture, vehicles, monuments, certain weapons and other tech look half energy-based and half physical.

The culture and society of these beings is eerily calm; spherids have an eerie sense of stillness around them, yet their nuclei-eyes constantly seem to be inspecting the area around them. Their society is class based in a way Indian society is; multiple rungs of the social ladder based on a sort of transcendent idea, with their society, while not necessarily religuous/spiritual, putting a focus on individual ascent towards a supposed higher state. At the same time, they are often multi-taskers, with police also doubling as natural disaster control, businessmen also doing construction, and mechanics also doing medical services and so on.

They are possibly the oldest T.S.C. faction and are strongly united. They were also the first to ally themselves with the humans.

Re: Soldiers of Misfortune

v__v; Irae, I don't know if I can keep up with your roleplay. There's soooo much to read and after that, my brain's too fried to post and I gotta go reread it so I know I post right. XD; It's crazy and ongoing. I'm wondering if I should withdraw.

Re: Soldiers of Misfortune

Well you've got my MSN right? Like if you need any help with anything, summaries and whatnot, I'm willing to assist with that.

M-12A1 Schwarzkopf
predator_tank.gif

Primary: M-45A4 127mm Linear Cannon
Secondary: MGM-109 Sledgehammer LOSAT Missile
Tertiary: PLR-44 Crew Served Laser
Armor: Titan Ceramic Composite with a layer of SMArT (Super Mold Armor Technology)
Armor Layer: Classified
ArmsTek Land Warfare Systems' pride in the Main Battle Tank class, the Schwarzkopf was designed to fight other tanks, mecha, and anything inbetween. It's 127mm Linear Cannon uses electromagnetic induction to sling a five inch projectile at hypervelocity over twenty eight miles at minimum elevation. It can reach road speeds of up to 75 MPH and fire accurately at 30 MPH. The best feature of this tank is the SMArT Armor which reseals damage as the tank recieves it, increasing it's survivability. To give it additional punch against tanks the Schwarzkopf can be fitted with a missile pod containing Sledge Hammer Line of Sight Anti-Tank missiles. As with all tanks the only true predator of the Schwarzkopf is the gunship. Made with pride by immigrant workers in the United Systems of America.

MLM-35A6 Titan
ms_hygogg_a.gif

Primary: PC-19 Armor Piercing Particle Cannon
Secondary: MGM-23 Sidewinder Scatter Missiles
Tertiary: Externally carried RGM-84 Harpoon Anti-Ship Missiles
Quaternary: Retractable Pile Bunker Claws
Armor: Titan Ceramic Composite Armor, optional Electromagnetic shield
Armor Layer: Classified
When the Union of Soviet Socialist Systems began building bigger and heavier mecha ArmsTek Land Warfare Systems began a private venture to capitalize on the biggest weakness of Soviet mecha design: lack of close quarters capabilities. They developed the Titan, a weapons platform with a gorilla-like stance, long segmented arms, and very large claws. To get it from point A to point B very fast ArmsTek installed a powerful booster system allowing it to hit upwards of 120 MPH on a full tank. This allows it to get in close to long range support units and knock them out with either it's melee weapons or armor piercing lasers. The Titan is also equipped with a number of missile pods in it's main body which are normally fired at the last minute before engaging the enemy. At the last minute it was decided to equip them with anti-ship missiles, the kind used to crack space cruisers apart, to give the Titan long range punch against heavy mecha. Made with pride by immigrant workers in the United Systems of America.

MLM-19A3 Acrocanthosaurus
rgc83.gif

Primary: Shoulder mounted M-198 155mm Linear Cannons
Secondary: PBR-14 40mm Battle Rifle
Tertiary: Left arm mounted laser blade
Armor: Titan Ceramic Composite, Chobham armor optional
Armor Layer: Classified
An artillery support platform designed to give fire support to Titans, the Acro is a medium mecha capable of standing toe to toe with equivalent weapons platforms. The Acro uses a pair of fire linked 155mm Linear Cannons to send a six inch slug over one hundred miles at maximum elevation. It has also found use as an anti-ship and intercept platform. To protect against other mecha in close quarters battle the Acro uses a 40mm battle rifle which can be loaded with Sabots or HE rounds. Like the Titan the Acro is fitted with jet boosters to allow it to keep up with tanks, APCs, and Titans. Made with pride by immigrant workers in the United Systems of America.

AH-95D Peregrinus VTOL
orca-mk-v-papercraft.jpg

Primary: AGM-114M Hellfire
Secondary: GAU-8/D Laser Gatling
Tertiary: Hydra Rocket Pods
Quaternary: EW Pods (Optional)
Armor: Duralim Composite, SMArT Armor
Armor Layer: Classified
Designed to fulfill the Close Air Support Role, the Peregrinus is fast and carries a number of hard hitting weapons. It can also be used in the Forward Air Controller role to direct artillery or the Electronic Warfare role to jam enemy comms and special electronics. For the most part it is used as an attack gunship. It was tested in a canyon with several gun emplacements and missile batteries, demonstrating extreme maneuverability in tight quarters. Made with pride by immigrant workers in the United Systems of America.

M-18 Bloodhound APC
gdi_apc.jpg

Primary: Mk 17 Mod 3 CIWS Laser
Secondary: Anti-Personnel Canister Launcher
Armor: Titan Ceramic Composite
Armor Layer: Classified
Designed to fulfill a need to move infantry over land at high speeds, the Bloodhound is fast and light, able to keep up with the tanks and mecha it travels with. The Bloodhound also has firing ports, allowing embarked infantry to protect the blind spots it's laser can't reach. When equipped for CBR battlefields the firing ports are covered up. Made with pride by immigrant workers in the United Systems of America.

Ruination (Ex- USS Ranger (FFG-63))
800px-Corvette-CHRON.jpg

Primary: Dual Mk 45 Mod 3 Plasma Cannons, mounted dorsal and ventral
Secondary: Mk 41 Mod 6 VLS Missile Launchers
Tertiary: Mk 17 Mod 3 CIWS Laser
Quaternary: Mk 116 Distraction Countermeasures
Armor: Titan Ceramic, quickrete, Electromagnetic shields, Positron Wave Motion shields
Armor Layer: Classified
Hangar Compliment: 2X Fighters
Designed to act as a picket ship and to bring Naval Gunfire Support in for Marines and Drop Troopers, the Oliver Perry Hazard class Frigate is a can do ship. Fast enough to keep up with the Destroyers and Cruisers they're designed to protect but armored enough to conduct bait and switch attacks on battleships. The Mk 41 Vertical Launch Systems these frigates have can be loaded with any number of missiles, ranging from Intercept missiles, Anti-ship missiles, EMP missiles, or Cluster missiles, all depending on the mission. The Ruination was one of the Flight I frigates and thus deigned obsolete by Flight II, Flight III, and Flight IV designs. As such the Ex-USS Ranger was donated to Hayden's ragtag bunch of misfits and converted into a cargo runner. Made with pride by immigrant workers in the United Systems of America.

M-777 Fixed Artillery Battery
Bore: 155mm Linear Cannon
Munitions: HE, Cluster, EMP, Smoke, Mine Dispenser, Shockwave
Range: 100+ MPH
Designed to fulfill long range strike capability and Anti-meteor requirements the 'Lucky Number Seven' as it's often called is used as both a fixed defense and for long term sieges. It can fire any number of munitions over long distances at hypervelocity speeds. In the anti-meteor role it uses shockwave rounds to break them apart into more manageable pieces. Said shockwave rounds are quite effective against aircraft and murder against unprotected infantry. Made with pride in the United Systems of America.

All, except the Ruination, are available for purchase! We do not accept credit cards, IOUs, money orders, checks, or unmeasured gold. In God we trust, all others pay cash.

Re: Soldiers of Misfortune

Effin' Arsenal, you're a champ.

As for mech size, mind you, I generally envision mecha (well most) in this RP to be around the size of the normal WH40K ones (Dreadnaughts, Killah Kans, Carnifexes, Wraithlords etc.), although there may be some uber-huge vehicles later on, kinda like the "Land Cruisers" in "End of Nations" or the scarabs from Halo. They'd be less gundam like in their actions, and more of some mix between Mechwarrior, Front Mission, and WH40K (again). Not necessarily zipping all over the place at 999999 MPH while firing a gazillion guns, but more like massive, imposing, stomping and sometimes crawling machines of war, filling out a role kinda like tanks, but if they were on two feet and were more versatile.

As for postage, where'd you all go? >____<

Lemme guess, the huge-ass posts scared you all off, right?

Re: Soldiers of Misfortune

In all fairness, if anyone posts such long additions, they should type up a summary and place it in a spoiler tag.

Re: Soldiers of Misfortune

I think I'll go add in a summary right now, actually.

Re: Soldiers of Misfortune

The Titan stands around twenty five feet, when standing upright. The Acro stands a little over thirty.

I have a semi-good sense of scale having served in the US Navy. Pictures DO NOT do the ships justice. You have to actually see them to get a good sense of scale.

Re: Soldiers of Misfortune

Sounds good man.

Anyhoo, when I add "spoilers" to a post now, that basically just means "short summary", so for those of you who want a quick overview of a big post, just click that.

Also, all of you, make sure you check the first post of this thread now and then. I will update as time passes, adding in new info to flesh things out further.

Re: Soldiers of Misfortune

Uhhhhh maybe ill just wave pom poms for this in the ooc. Let me sober up and read this again. I love the concept of a spherid... what about one cast out that sides with the Funebrum... ooh or would you like me to be against you?

Re: Soldiers of Misfortune

Either of those will work find, but ultimately, your call. I plan on having Spherids appear soon as well. Also added a bit to the tactical overview for your character.

Also, are any of you gonna be posting anytime soon?

Re: Soldiers of Misfortune

I'll post tomorrow. Been sick and brains not working very well.

Re: Soldiers of Misfortune

I'm waiting on other posts.

Re: Soldiers of Misfortune

Same, but if no one posts by this Friday, I'm going on ahead.

Re: Soldiers of Misfortune

Working on it... It may be up tomorrow instead of tonight. I'm very tired and getting over a cold. v.v;

Re: Soldiers of Misfortune

Take your time. Like with Samuel Adams, all in due time.

Re: Soldiers of Misfortune

HAHAHAHAaaaah. I suck.

The Spherid is fail, but lookit the Funebraran I came up with! I mean you can always use more of them right?

This was a really weird dream I had last night. He kept following me trying to eat my shoes...

Simple character, but whatever I LUV him and I mean to make a plushy of him even if you don't want him in your roleplay.

Biggs

Name: Big McLargehuge. (It doesn't translate into spoken word very well- it's much more awe inspiring as the general feeling you get the first time you see him whole, most of the time you only see a coil, or an end...)
Race: Funebraran
Age: 213
Appearance: Sort of...
king_of_centipedes_by_amihedgehog.jpg
. But hollow on the inside, filled with energy like
Protoss_Reaver_by_ITSTORRASQUE4U.jpg
but more like
DarkArchon_Energy_Solar_Flare_by_ZephyrAnalea.jpg
. Well over twenty meters long, the spines running along his body are filled with a painful, paralysis inducing (But not deadly) neurotoxin, and the prehensile feelers covered with various receptors for touch, taste, and smell.
Personality:. Biggs is not particularly intelligent. He used to be, but as he aquired various parasites and unlocked new extentions and mutations, he began to forget things. Important things, his name, his early existance, that he wasn't small enough to fit through that particular tunnel anymore... he's a gentle giant off the battlefield, curious and usually just looking for something that won't be terribly angry if he tries to eat it.
In Battle: Biggs is a powerful energy user but surprisingly enough, he is better at healing than causing damage. One of his larger segments, around where one would expect his heart and lungs to be (they're somewhere else) is full of feelers he can use to pull someone up into the cage of his ribs and heal them. He relys more on his size, weight, and spines in combat.

__

And that's about all I have worked out for him... I know he's big but I thought if they can unlock new appendages why not more vertebrae?

Or should I stick to waving pom-poms?
