So Monks, generally, don't wear armour for two reasons.
One is sort-of practical - armour that would be worth the trouble of wearing and maintaining would get in the way of their martial arts techniques, and when your opponent is a centuries-old bloodsucking nightmare, getting hit at all is often a death sentence.
The other is theological; your faith should be what protects you, exemplified in complex tattoos depicting both gods and their scriptures. And it works, mostly. As long as you remain committed to the vows of your order, like protecting the innocent.
What I'm getting at is they're actually pretty analogous to paladins in other settings.
I'm just throwing this out, in hopes people get hooked...
