Jason attempted to pitch his tent once more, but it was stubborn. Once again it fell down only serving to irritate Jason. Considering alternatives, Jason supposed that sleeping under the watchful stars wasn't so bad. Plus, it likely wasn't going to rain anytime soon in this fiery weather. It would also be less trouble as well so Jason tore through his backpack to find a roll up bed. As the bed was spread out, what felt like a low earthquake rumbled the ground. Yet they weren't near any fault lines so what was causing it?
Looking around Jason saw dust raising like smoke a short distance away. The first thing that came to mind was a stampede and that intrigued him. Perhaps there would be some 'accidents' among the stampeders. The opportunity was great so the poacher grabbed his sniper rifle, called over Alex who was barking like a maniac, and ran like a bullet through the grass. It would only be a short time later that Jason found a good place to snipe. A elevated hill overlooking the coming stampede.
Jason threw himself down and readied his sniper. Alex stayed close by waiting for the command while the marine took a peep at what was going on. And what Jason saw was strange.
Through his scope, Jason saw a horde of elephants being chased by a single lioness. That, in itself, wasn't correct and so something else must have scared the elephants. What was stranger, and perhaps even scary, was that he saw a male lion of unusual color was running away from some cubs forcing a female to save them. Jason was ready to bust out laughing at the coward, but he had to keep his eye on the ball or risk losing the horde so he looked through the scope trying to find any weak or young elephants. Chances of killing it were slim, but injuring it and letting it die was much easier. Jason held his breath to stabilize the sniper and slowly squeezed the trigger once he found an elephant yet it didn't fire.
Jason wonder what happened. Misfire? The marine lifted the sniper to check. While the sniper was being expect, Alex had always been curious of the sniper and so she padded over. The husky cocked her head then extended her paw to press the little, curved black thing. Jason saw it, but reacted too late once a blast fired. The bullet was raised just above another elephant and barely touched the very back of the panicked beast.
"Alex!" Jason shrieked causing the dog to whimper.
