Is it alright if I make the character app, then my race to back it up?

Fixed that. Sorry.

Should have Xerxes finished in the next day or so.
It's all good, don't worry! As a side note, my schedule chokes up after today so I'll only really be able to post at certain times during the day. However, I've got the IC post written up and waiting in a word document for us.

@girlabot- it's going well, but you did what I did all the time when writing races; you called Xago an orc in your physical appearance. Fix that up before you keep going with your CS! It might get lost in the flow of character creation.

... fixed. Sorry about that. I'm finished with the rest of my CS! I'll make a few aesthetic changes to my form later so that it looks a little nicer.

NAME: Xago Largakh
NICKNAME(S): Lark
POSITION: Navigator/Advisor/First Mate
AGE: 32
RACE: Glitok
GENDER: Cis male

APPEARANCE: Xago makes a stately figure at an unusually lean 6'5", hard muscle packed beneath his pale green skin. Unpictured: his dark brown hair is styled in shoulder-length dreadlocks, usually tied back in a loose ponytail or bun, and the "whites" of his eyes are actually a pale, pale blue, capped by slanted ovular eyebrows. Unless he is surveying the ship to examine special repairs or engaged in combat, Xago is almost always in his Ad Astra 9 uniform; it is assumed he bathes without it, but even in ten years no one has seen any physical evidence. Despite this apparent obsession, Xago takes special care to keep himself clean and well-put together.

To say Xago's body structure is unusual for a glitok would be an understatement. He is a veritable runt, lacking considerably in both height and girth, with lean, hard muscle instead of the mountainous upper body typical of his kind. Although he is physically weaker than other glitoks, Xago's smaller size gives him a definite advantage in both speed and agility over other members of his species. His fingers and toes also end in blackened, pointed claws, giving him some added offensive merit in hand-to-hand combat. His upper right chest bears four 6-inch parallel scars about an inch-and-a-half apart, a remnant mark of his old clan, the Ironclaws.

---

At first glance
Lacking the directly aggressive nature of his kinsmen, Xago is instead quiet and non-confrontational, more likely to break up a fight than participate in one. He is professional in situations where professionalism is due, but generally prefers to keep to himself. Even after abandoning his clan early in his teenaged years, Xago is still reluctant to show any kind of weakness, including genuine emotion, that so often made him a target of his peers back on Uzkrok. However, he is perfectly wiling to give logical, well-formulated advice when asked for it.

In conflict
Although Xago tries his best to avoid unnecessary strife, conflict is, of course, unavoidable when working on a small starship like the Ad Astra 9. If the glitok offends one of his crewmates (which doesn't happen particularly often), he usually won't understand why or how until it is explained to him. However, once he knows and accepts what he did was wrong, Xago is quick to deliver a thorough apology; although he is not the most emotionally savvy, the glitok does understand the value of a crew with few internal conflicts. If he has been slighted, Xago expects the same out of his crewmates: a direct, polite apology, and nothing less.

As the First Mate, Xago handles disagreements between other crewmates in a swift and just manner. If the situation is too emotionally charged for him to view logically, he will defer to his Captain for assistance, though will consider himself a failure for having done so. Later in his career on the Ad Astra 9, Xago is more understanding of his individual crewmates' personal struggles. He is always willing to lend an ear when needed, even if he doesn't always have the right words; although he still has difficulties in expressing appropriate emotional responses, the glitok has become an adept, careful listener. In the past few years he has even started to consider emotional expression as a strength, not a weakness, though he still has trouble talking about his own personal struggles without feeling ashamed.

Xago's innate aptitude for combat is especially apparent when the ship is under attack. His mind works more quickly and decisively under the pressure of battle, and when faced with enemies he is atypically ruthless. It took years of training for Xago to control his basic glitok nature in combat, but if the situation is desperate enough he will lose his characteristic rationality and become exceedingly, mindlessly violent. It takes some time for him to physically calm down after such an episode, and takes even longer to get over the guilt and shame he feels for having lost control. Outside of direct battle, he is an excellent militant strategist, and works to come up with battle plans that minimize the loss of time and water.

Relationships
It took several years for Xago to be able to connect to his crewmates on a personal level. His professional, distant manner kept him from bonding with the people he now considers friends- not to mention made him a popular target for playful teasing (which, needless to say, he rarely understood). Over time the glitok grew closer to his crew, and would now do anything to keep them safe. He is highly protective of his Captain, her ship, and the people in it, which is perhaps his greatest asset in the position of First Mate.

[Individual relationships will be added as the RP progresses.]

Position aboard the Ad Astra 9
Xago manages the crew of the Ad Astra with a calm, firm authority. In his first few weeks as First Mate, the glitok took time to assess each crew member's technical strengths and weaknesses, and even now keeps a careful mental catalog of them for future use. He has a very deep respect for his Captain and other figures of authority, though treats each crew member with dignity and appreciation. Despite his success as First Mate, Xago's true gift lies in cartography and navigation. He enjoys knowing precisely where things are and how best to reach them, and often disappears for hours into the Navigation Room to pore over his many treasured maps.

Dreams/desires
Although he would never admit it, Xago has a soft spot for children and other young people. He feels a strong drive to protect them, perhaps as a result of his own tumultuous childhood. Xago secretly wishes to settle down and have a child before he dies, but with a low reproduction rate among the glitoks he knows this dream is unlikely... especially given his unconventional appearance and attitude.
---

The Ironclaws were a small clan on the verge of extinction, still paying the price for having joined the great glitok enlightenment late in the game. The Ironclaws were plagued by a lack of adaptability; just as they had caught up to modern styles of weapons technology, the focus of neighboring clans shifted toward harvesting stars. Without at least a few stars, the Ironclaw elders realized, they would be wiped off the face of Uzkrok by more powerful and technologically-advanced enemies. The small clan, consisting of less than 30 members, begun hopeless attempts at developing the aerospace equipment necessary to stay alive in their brutal world, and it was around this time that Xago Largakh was born.

Xago's childhood was filled with steel and fire. He began working in the clan's engineering labs at only 4 years old, fetching different tools and materials for the older glitoks as they hammered away at their projects. The Ironclaws had no time to raise children, so Xago grew up quickly; with no other children in the clan to play and spar with, it was easy. Necessity demanded that he make himself useful, and he did, both in the engineering labs and in battle. Border spats were frequent and vicious, and with few enough members already, the Ironclaws needed every able-bodied glitok ready to put down their work and defend their territory at each new attack. Xago killed his first at the age of eight, though by the time the Ironclaws were absorbed into Bristlechew around two years later he had killed as any many as twelve, many of whom were barely more than children themselves. Xago is not proud of this.

Somehow the Ironclaws had developed a new type of catapult specialized for combat in space, a small breakthrough that probably wouldn't have saved them even if Bristlechew hadn't noticed. As it was, the legendary clan heard news of it, formed an interest, and took what they wanted by force. Many of the Ironclaws accepted the inevitable abandonment of their Bloodmother and joined Bristlechew, Xago included. He was ten, a young teenager, and found a place in the new clan more easily than his older clanmates. Young Xago's hard-working attitude and impressive focus made him an ideal candidate for engineering, though after about a year his interest shifted toward cartography. He took up an apprenticeship with an old navigator, Ilma, whose unusually passive and gentle demeanor strongly connected with Xago's own quiet personality.

Ilma's work took the pair up to space and into the Bristlechew fleet, a massive, incredibly advanced collection of sleek spacecraft. The two years Xago spent learning from Ilma aboard the older glitok's ship, the Duzhong 11, were the happiest years of his life. The young apprentice learned quickly, needing to hear the theory behind a concept only once before committing it to memory. Eventually Ilma decided that Xago the experience of joining his own crew, and quietly arranged a pod for his student to escape to the Space Station Sophia. As Ilma had predicted, Xago found work almost immediately upon arriving at the Sophia, even though his first job was as a deckhand on a fairly sleazy, back-alley starship.

Over the next ten years Xago climbed up the ladder aboard a variety of ships, and left each with even better reviews and references than the last. One year he was a low-level engineer on a luxury ship, the next he'd find work drafting preliminary routes for a star barge. In the five years before applying for the job on the Ad Astra 9, Xago had been one of several advisors on an enormous defense ship, working in navigation on the side. He grew weary of the militant lifestyle that reminded him so much of his childhood, however, and was soon selected for his best job yet: navigator, advisor, AND First Mate on a small and agile starship, the Ad Astra 9.

In his first few years aboard the Ad Astra 9, Xago was very distant with his crewmates and Captain, and only held his position through sheer ability. After working on other ships in the past, he thought he had grown accustomed to the unique blend of emotions and attitudes that come with every crew. However, as Xago soon found out, the crew of the Ad Astra 9 was especially insane. It took him months to approach a crewmate about non-essential business, and even longer to engage in an actual, genuine conversation- and his new nickname 'Lark', a crude variant of his last name Largakh, irritated him to no end. However, once Lark began to view his crew's diversity as an advantage rather than a complication, he grew more accepting, more patient with them. The glitok started to use his time aboard the Ad Astra 9 as a learning opportunity, and consequently saw more personal development in the last few years than he had in the past 30.

POWER: Hyper-awareness. Xago's powers are focused around understanding and adapting to his environment.

ABILITIES:
1 - Active Spatial Awareness. Xago has a 'map' of the surrounding area in his head (it's a spherical model, so on the Ad Astra 9 he will eventually be able to 'see' onto multiple floors at once), and can focus on smaller parts of it to see what's generally going on or where people are, even if he isn't in the same room. Details are harder to see, so focusing on things like what people are doing or analyzing an object take more skill and produce more drawbacks. His scope will expand with time and practice.
2 - Empathy. If there are other people in the room, Xago can understand what they're feeling, even if they show no outwardly display of emotion. With added energy, he can influence their mood, whether by calming them down to the point of sleep or inciting anger/restlessness.
3 - Telepathy. This power will take some time to be able to control. Fairly self-explanatory; he can hear others' thoughts, or plant his own voice into their head.

PASSIVE EFFECTS:
1 - General Spatial awareness. He is acutely aware of his surroundings, including what direction he's facing (to an extremely accurate degree), how quickly he's traveling, the temperature, and other similar conditions.
2 - Innate Capability. ...The ability to instantly know or at least have a general understanding of the complexity of objects within his scope.

DRAWBACKS:
1 - Can cause severe headaches and migraines with progressive use; can also cause blood vessels in his eyes to break, even though the ability is not reliant on eyesight. Is more difficult to use if objects/people within his scope are moving quickly.
2 - Can unintentionally influence the moods of the people around him if he is feeling particularly strongly. If used in excess, will also confuse or sicken the target of the mood change when the emotion wears off. Usually sickens Xago to use as well.
3 - Can cause severe headaches and migraines with progressive use. Also, can make Xago feel very nauseous, and makes him susceptible to mental attack.
4 - Passive effects. Drains quickly when in a new surrounding due to all of the stimuli his mind instantly processes. Cannot fully grasp overly-complicated objects such as computers or sophisticated weaponry.

Everything appears to be in order. When using effects such as Empathy and Telepathy, ensure that the recipient is fine with you 'controlling' their character or peering into their thoughts...some people get pretty touchy over invasive effects on their precious, precious RP characters. And I don't blame them. They made those aliens so -they- can RP them, not someone else!

I especially like how he appears to be a human compass - all these powers are fitting in with their roles, save for Raine who just had to get the perfect opposite of what she specialises in. Cruel, cruel irony.

I believe that the fact we knew each other for yen years seems like a way to communicate. If you don't mind, I am looking at an engineer. Do you have some suggestions for an amazing one?
Might just be my muddled morning brain, but I cannot begin to understand your initial sentence - way to communicate? You mean ensure the close character relations are set in place, or?

Anywho, you asked a question, and I will reply!
  • A Telmyra engineer considered "eccentric" by her kin for falling in love with the mechanical and technological, preferring gears and pistons over the leafy homeworld of Myrra. They show only a loose devotion to the Tel and take the first opportunity they get to go into space and have adventures. Adrenaline-powered gearmonkey.
  • A hulking, muscular Glitok with violent sensibilities quelled only by his intense appreciation for the delicate workings of machinery. Outwardly, he displays the traits of an aggressive, battle-ready Glitok - but upon closer inspection, he's more of a gentle giant, a softie playing up to his racial stereotype for acceptance.
  • A Human whose aptitiude tests failed to put them into any definitive category at age 10. A very passionate, outspoken character with a love for nature -and- machines, along with a cool charisma that attracts new friends like bees to honey; but since aptitude tests = life on those space stations, they are forced into grunt work on cargo ships until she reaches Ad Astra 9. The motley crew of misfits intices them to stay.
  • A Lerrin racecar driver back on Tinkertak, the radiation forcing them into a space station. A free spirit with a need for speed, they sign up for Ad Astra 9 in search of excitement and adventure. Constantly moving around, unfinished projects here and there, but when they get into the zone they perform at a high quality and finish the job.
  • A GMH who just wasn't meant to be born with a silver spoon in their mouth. With scheming relatives planning a nasty accident for them in order to recieve their inheritance from their parents, they join Ad Astra 9 to escape and instantly receive culture shock, complaining for a good long while until they finally settle in. Engineering is what they considered the most 'sophisticated' work to do and actually show a knack for it.
Genders and species are interchangeable (So long as you change other parts accordingly) and you can mix-and-match, EG a Lerrin racecar driver who gets used to the celebrity life and has a bad time adjusting. I did one for each completed race.

"Amazing" is subjective. I just popped down some nice creative ones for you to play around with. Every character's amazing in their own way.

Sorry; I was tired as well.
Given that the characters knew each other for ten years, would descriptions like "He's been a good helper to all of his buddies, especially if it cuts in his time" in the personalities make sense?

Those crew members are practically family. Think of it this way - if he worked especially hard and started exhausting himself, he's doing it for his friends. In return, his friends will notice he's overworking himself because they know him that well, and will tell him to stop. Circle of life! They all care for each other.

@Crow - your reservation period runs out tomorrow! Just post down half a CS and it'll be fine.

@Bakugou - how is Xerxes history going along? I can't accept the character without a finished CS.

NAME: Ironbel
NICKNAME(S): Scrappy, Iron, Bel
POSITION: Engineer
AGE: 160 in current body.
RACE: Mashin
GENDER: Identifies as Male
APPEARANCE: In addition to the above picture, he is a hulking 4 metres tall.
---
PERSONALITY:
Despite his imposing appearance, Ironbel tends to be a gentle giant who will only fight when the time comes. He is a patient individual who is very difficult to irritate.

HISTORY: (It needn't be incredibly long and if you have anything you want to keep hidden, you have to post it to me in PM.)
---
POWER: Fragarach
ABILITIES: (In order of strength. Attacks, defence, spells you'd actually cast. Don't have to use all the spaces.)
1 - Lamfhada - A blinding light that blinds all who gaze upon it on spot, with the exception of Mashin. The effect lasts half a minute.
2 - Formorsbane - It transforms the user into an (even more) armoured knight wielding two light-based blades. A limited version such as just the blades can be used.
3 - Gae Bolg - It transforms the user into a dragon-like being about twice his size, wielding a glowing light-based red spear in its mouth. As long as he isn't berserk, this spear can be flung like a whip, as well as extend from 3 metres long to 10 metres long.
4 - Thuatha De Danaan - He creates clones made from light(up to 6). They are less durable than he is, but their abilities are the same as his, effectively amplifying his capabilities.
PASSIVE EFFECTS:
1 - Regeneration
DRAWBACKS:
1 - Crew members and foes alike will be affected. Friends and foes that do not use sight are immune.
2 - It puts a strain on his body and uses a lot of stamina.
3 - In addition to drawback 2, he might go berserk if this form is active for more than 10 minutes.
4 - Pain felt by one body will be felt by the rest. If one gets infected, the others will synch in infection. Also these clones are less durable than the real deal.
5 - It is as slow as natural human regeneration, and will not take effect if Formorsbane or Gae Bolg is active.

First off, I find this concept absolutely beautiful. I've been slowly reading through the thread over the course of the past day while in my moments of spare time, and a character has started to grow in the back of my mind. I'll need to ask a few questions before being able to finish with the history, but I figure I can get to that after I get a few things written down. No way to finish something without starting it, after all.

I'm interested in filling the last engineer position - That is so long as I didn't miss someone else beating me to it, in which case I'd be fine with the role of guard, though I reckon I'd need to make a few adjustments to the character. Regardless, I'm just looking forward to joining if you'll have me <3.

Are you still accepting? This concept looks like so much fun! I had an idea for an Engineer, but if that's taken up already I have some ideas for a Deckhand or Guard.

First reaction - the height will have to be dimished a bit, since he will pretty much not...fit in the doorways and suchlike? Ad Astra 9 is a small ship built for speed! I'll give it a full evaluation when it's done.

The position is yours until 16 June! Please try to get a WIP underway before then.

I work on a first-come, first-serve basis and the role for Engineer is now full up. I'm sorry! By all means, however, go ahead and make a deckhand/guard character.

I'm just glad there's still a spot left somewhere :P I would like to do a GMH Deckhand then. I'll get him up online tonight when I get home.

Very well. Is 3 metres small enough or do I have to reduce it to 2.5?

2.5 is probably ideal, because we have 7-8 feet races already present, so the doors would probably be set a little above 8 feet. If he was 3 metres, ironbel would have to crouch under every doorway and probably accidentally end up breaking things - it wouldn't work out, Tingwink wouldn't hire an engineer who might break things.

NAME: Mitra Ravinder Glaisyer

NICKNAME(S): Kit, Ravi, Glad Slayer

POSITION: Deckhand

AGE: 22

RACE: GMH

GENDER: Male

APPEARANCE: Red Fox/Fennec Fox, he has a deaf right ear and burn marks on his right shoulder. His ears are bigger than anyone else in his family. This is due to the fact that his mother was a Fennec Fox and he inherited her ears and height. He reaches only about 5' 1" full grown His eyes are a dark gray bordering on black. He tends to wear scarves for warmth and either a baseball cap or something else that is comfortable for working

---

PERSONALITY: Mitra enjoys being around people (as long as it's not a crowd). At first glance he seems incredibly friendly if a little abrupt. He's often rude, which caused by the fact that he has no ability to sensor his thoughts. He's bluntly honest about what he's thinking. He's entirely too stubborn for his own good. He'll dig his feet in and not let go of an idea even if it turns out it was wrong.

He tries to be optimistic. Most of the time this works out, he has endless curiosity and is always sticking his nose in things. But this also means he's willing to learn from others if he doesn't understand something.

He's in love with travelling, and tends to star gaze if he's thinking. He enjoys looking at maps and learning about other planets and areas. He wants to eventually become a Navigator and he has a lot of respect for Xago. However, he'd rather stay on board Ad Astra 9, where people that are like his family live; then switch to another ship.

He tends to sleep in if he doesn't have anything to do; he prefers a hammock or the higher areas of the ship. Mitra is in an incredibly bad mood if he's woken up from his sleep too early and he usually lashes out at the person responsible. He then proceeds to feel incredibly guilty, and it's one of the few times he's will to apologies.

His right ear will start twitching if he feels vulnerable, or weak. He dislikes it when people sneak up on him on his deaf side, and so favors that side a little more. He also feels uncomfortable in crowds, he starts to become snippy if he has to talk to more than a few people at a time.

He dislikes people who are hypocritical or who lie directly to him. Despite his stubborn streak and optimism he has a bit of self-esteem issue deep down. He always blames himself and will hide any guilt he feels deep inside his psyche; until he becomes incredibly depressed. Being around the other crew members the last ten years has helped this problem, but it's still there underneath all the cheerfulness.

HISTORY: Mitra is the result of a one night stand between a female Fennec Fox and a male Red Fox. It was thought that he wouldn't live past the birth, despite the Fennec Fox and Red Fox being in the same animal family and genus (Canidae, Vulpes) it is still a difficult pairing. But he was born with only one slight defect, he has turrets with his right ear which twitches when he is thinking deeply or nervous.

His mother had no wish to raise a child and abandoned him with his father's family. Her reasoning was that his father was far richer then her so he should be the one to raise Mitra. The family was incredibly upset by this irresponsible gesture; they probably would have treated Mitra at least a little better if he'd shown any sort of love art. Though he was excellent at sculpting he preferred to copy things he saw directly in reality instead of adding any creativity.

Instead he seemed to be far wilder then his cousins. Mitra loved to climb the trees around Yaedon, he collected as many maps as he could at a young age and started to study star charts instead of going to any of the balls or parties. He worked hard, not for a life of luxury, but because he enjoyed it. He felt far more alive when he was covered in dirt.

As a consequence, his father's family became more and more disgusted by him. He had only the loving relationship with his Father to help him develop social connections. He did try for a little while to become friends with his cousins, but when 'play time' ended with his right ear being slammed into a doorway by a large group of children he started to distrust others (he became deaf soon after). He was constantly told that everything that went wrong with the family was his fault. Eventually he would escape by sleeping in trees. The nickname 'Glad Slayer' was given to him after he ruined a ball by tracking quite a bit of mud and dirt into the main room.

It escalated to an unbearable point. The last act of cruelty was when his aunt locked him in a shed and set it on fire. His father was able to break in and throw him to safety, but died himself in the fire that gave Mitra his scars.

Upset he made his way to the space port and snuck on board one of the ships that was stationed there. At that point he was only ten. He hopped from ship to ship until he was forced to stow away on the Ad Astra 9 in order to escape the pirate ship he had previously been on. He was caught after a few days and ended up in an argument with the Captain Tingwink. Mitra insisted that he had done nothing wrong and that he could help the ship out so it really was a positive for them as well. He was made the cabin boy/deckhand for the voyage; at least until they could drop the kid off at another port.

Fortunately he got to know the crew extremely well on that trip. When he was supposed to leave the ship he refused , unable to leave the first people besides his father to be kind to him.

POWER: Molecular manipulation

ABILITIES: (In order of strength. Attacks, defence, spells you'd actually cast. Don't have to use all the spaces.)

1 – Molecular Oscillation – Ability to manipulate his own Molecules at a high frequency causing super human reflexes and speed for brief moments.

2 – Physical Disruption: Mitra is able to distort his own molecular structure so that he can phase through solid objects or beings.

3 – Molecular Inhibition: He has the ability to lower the temperature of the molecules around him so that an object or area is frozen solid.

4 - Molecular Adhesion: Ability to cling to solid surfaces by changing molecules to a combination of solid and liquid.

PASSIVE EFFECTS:

1 – Increased self-awareness – he knows exactly what's going on in his own body down to the molecular level.

2 – Increased object awareness – Mitra now has the ability to tell what an object is made up of at a molecular level.

DRAWBACKS:

1 – If he moves his molecules too fast, or for too long of a period he can actually cause them to catch fire, or melt causing serious injury to himself and those around him. This can also cause a Migraine or black outs at a less dangerous level.

2 – If he's not paying incredibly close attention to where he's going (or gets distracted mentally) he can get stuck in a solid object and cause damage to his internal organs.

3 – Can cause himself hypothermia, especially if he does this as an area type of attack. He isn't immune to freezing himself. Will give him brain freeze for a brief second.

4 – Causes his turrets to heighten, making him incredibly twitchy for hours after.

5 – His mind can be overwhelmed by the data he's getting and seeing, causing fainting spells, migraines, and brief moments of paranoia.
