  • [bg=#002404]The School of Life is a very special school. It takes in all sorts of kids from orphans sent there because they are too difficult to place, kids who've been kicked out of other schools for various reasons, last chance kids who chose this over reform school or juvie, and even some kids sent there by parents who think they need a kick in the pants.
    The schools philosophy is different than most schools. There are high expectations, but the adults don't get involved a lot. Adults simply supervise and teach. If there is a need for adult intervention like a fight breaks out or there is an emergency than adults will step in and help, but other than that they prefer for the kids to hand themselves.
    The students are expected to keep their grades up, keep their personal spaces orderly, help and support other students, and lastly the students are expected to work at various places on the school grounds. At the end of each month students are paid based on their performance. If you slacked you will get less than those who worked hard. To teach responsibility older students are assigned to newer and younger students to help them.
    The goal of the school is to raise adults who can go out into the real world and know how to work and be responsible citizens without feeding off the system. When children are released at 18 they are given all their savings from living in the school and recomendation letters from the adults they worked with. [/bg]

    [bg=#002404]LOCATION/CAMPUS:
    The school located near the Mississippi near the Pearl River. The nearest town, Florence, is about 20 miles away. The school has a small crop and animal farm.
    When you drive down the long private road you will pass a field with animals on your right and crops on your left. You will first come to a small parking lot and a large stone building that is the school house and in-processing center.
    Behind the school is a network of dirt paths that go to various locations on the campus.
    Go to the left and you'll be led to a barn with a chicken coop on the wall facing the field where the animals are during the day.
    Go to the right and you'll find another barn with farming equipment and even further on, near the river, you'll find a greenhouse. The field stretch out the way you entered though they aren't very big.
    If you keep going straight you'll come to another fork in the road. This time if you go the right you'll get to a stone path and a small grouping of building. These are the workshops where kids learn mechanics, carpentry, and other skills.
    If you go the left at the second fork you'll come to town sqaure type place of dirt. On the left are two large stone houses and on the right are two stone houses. Straight in front is a small stone house that almost backs up the river. These are the dorms.
    HOUSING INFO: Each large stone house is a dorm building and is able to house up to 24 children. It has a kitchen, a rec room, a laundry room, and 6 rooms that hold 4 children each. All 6 bedrooms are on the second floor along with 3 bathrooms.
    The smaller stone house is for the over-night adult staff. [/bg]

    [bg=#002404]SCHOOL SECRET:
    Every Sunday night if you to the edge of the school property down on the river banks you'll see a small group of young adults and students. Here is where kids can get cigarettes, alcohol, and whatever they aren't allowed to buy. The ring is run by some young adults in town who don't feel they earn enough at their own jobs or have no jobs. Staff does not currently know about, a downside to low supervision, and not even all the students know about it.[/bg]

  • [bg=#010E3B]RULES:

    ~Posts & Language & Literacy~

    Please Try To Limit The Cussing.

    Keep all OOC to this thread. No RPing takes place here, only OOC and forms are here.

    I prefer at least a small paragraph per character, but 2+ lines at the very least please...

    Try To Have Proper Spelling...I know spelling is hard for some people(Like me), but use google and the built in spellcheck. (I accept both British and American spellings don't worry I'm not a jerk. :-P)

    Do not make this into a 1x1 and go pages with one other RPer and ignore everyone else. If you've gone three times back and forth with out anyone else posting pause and wait for for another person to get on. [/bg]

    [bg=#010E3B]~Characters~

    You Can Have As Many Characters As You Want, But Please Keep Genders Even {No Twenty Girls And One Guy}

    Please Keep All Of Your Characters Active... I Understand It Can Be Hard Sometimes, But Post For All Of Them At Least Once Every Three Pages.

    You May NOT Use Anime Or Cartoons For This RP, All Images Should Be Of Real People {Or Animals}

    Romance is fine however both players must be willing and any hokey pokey must fade to black. Nothing more than light kissing and like hand holding.

    No Mary-Sues, Gary-Sues, Or God-Modding. Powerplaying should not be an issue since there are, simply put, no powers, but there is none of that either. [/bg]

    [bg=#010E3B]~Reading~
    I expect you to read the rules and basically understand everything. If you have a question please ask

    :3. If you have read this write your characters favorite color somewhere in the form.[/bg]

    [bg=#010E3B]~RPing~

    Wait To Be Accepted By Me or a Co-GM(@Icystorm) Before RPing.

    No Power-Playing, Mary-Sues, Gary-Sues, Or God-Modding.

    You May NOT Be Your Own Crush, Boyfriend/Girlfriend, Fiance, Or Spouse {Mates For Animals may have both sides played by the same user}.

    No transgender because it's too confusing for me to display and makes things way compicated for housing placement and stuff.

    Don't Ignore Someone, And If A Recap Or Repost Is Asked For Be Friendly And Kind And Try To Give It To The Person. Nobody likes a jerk! Be nice people. [/bg]

    [bg=#010E3B]~Have Fun!~

    The Most Important Rule Of All... If You Don't Have Fun, Then There's No Point To The RP. Keep The Drama And Romance And Action Coming. But Beware, I Will Add More Rules If I Need To
    Rules Credit: @~Happily.Ever.After~ [/bg]

  • [bg=#302008]STUDENT INFO:
    Students are split into houses by gender. The school believes that mixing ages promotes responsibility, however rooms are splits by age. Ages 12-14 are in the same rooms and ages 15-18 are in the same rooms.
    When students first arrive they are provided with clothes if needed, hygiene supplies, bedding, and school supplies. However after the initial supplying they are supposed to provide and pay for their own with the money provided.
    Students have schools 5 days a week and there is work 6 days a week. Sunday is considered a free day and students can go to religious services or just relax. Every night, if s student manages his time right, there is free time to relax and write to family.
    Homework handed out is minimal because the school believes is more detrimental than helpful. Mostly homework given out is reading or papers.
    Students' schedules are not forced upon them. If you choose to not show up for school or work you lose pay.
    The only required show up is every morning at 6:00 Am and every evening at 9:30 PM an adult staff members takes roll call at each house. Other than that the adults stay out of the kids schedules.
    Twice a month there is a trip to town for kids to pick up hygiene supplies and whatever they needs. It is scheduled by house and not everyone can go every time. One month the girl houses will go and the next the boys will go.
    Students are released either when they turn 18 or when they graduate high school.
    Students earn anywhere from 0$-80$ a month.[/bg]

    [bg=#302008]CONTACTING FAMILY & FRIENDS
    Students are allowed to contact their family and friends however they are not allowed personal electronics(Like laptops and phones) because the school believes it is distracting from the purpose and teaching kids how to handle life.
    Students are encouraged to write home whenever they want and every night they are allowed to call home.
    Calling home is considered a privilege not a right. After work everyday students are given a token that is worth 10, 15, or 20 minutes of phone time. Students who have no one to call either choose to get earn a chip or they give, trade/barter, and sell their chips to other students. (While this behavior is frowned up on by the staff they will not stop it unless it becomes a problem. EX: if students ask for sexual favors in trade of phone tokens or the trade involves something illegal)

    Each house has a phone room on the first floor that has a desktop pay phone and an egg timer in it. Students time starts as soon as they dial the number they are calling which can only be done after the token is inserted. The egg timer is in case a student wants to keep track of his time during the conversation.

    Chips do not bank time. If you use a 15 minute toke, but only talk for 10 minutes you do not get time back.

    Most houses have a rule that no one may hang out near the phone room while someone is in it even if that person is waiting in line. How that rule is enforced pends on the Head Kid.

    Every night the head kid goes in and uses a key to unlock the phone. Then s/he takes all the tokens in the phone to the adult house and turns them in so they can be re-used.

    Family and friends are allowed to visit during Open House.[/bg]

    [bg=#302008]MEDICAL INFO:

    If a student takes prescription medication they are in charge of taking them and are not reminded by staff. Whenever they need a refill they are taken to get one.

    Any and all check ups needed are done by a doctor that takes the insurance the school uses.

    The school covers most medical bills however if a student gets injured doing some stupid like attempting par-cour when they shouldn't, fighting, etc they are expected to pay a certain percentage of the bill decided upon by the head of school.

    Adult staff(General Supervisors) perform random 'pill checks' to ensure students are not abusing and selling prescription medications. While they want kids to have freedom to choose they also do not want to risk being shut down or a lawsuit because students abused prescription medications.[/bg]

    [bg=#302008]SCHEDULE:

    School day goes from 8 AM- Midday and then after that students do work/vocational training until 6:00 PM.
    Schooling is Mon-Fri
    Work is everyday(But on weekends it can get done faster because there is no school)[/bg]

  • [bg=#31323B]HOUSE DESCRIPTION(S):
    GIRLS-
    HOUSE #1:

    House #1 is a an L shaped gray stone building with a dark green shingled roof. It is placed on the lower right portion of the dirt square where all the dorms are with the straight up part of the L pointing towards the river and the lower part of the L parralell to the end of the dirt square farthest from the river.

    The door is an old handmade wood door that has been there since the school was founded. It is a rectangular door made of vertical planks that have gray slightly with age. Halfway down the door in a horizontal plank and on the top half of the door is a window split in fourth by mullions.

    On the bottom floor there is on large window on the back of the river pointing part of the L, two windows on either side of the door, a small above-the-sink window on the non-river pointing part of the L, and

    On the river pointing wing of the L there are three windows in the back(The side that does not look over the square) and two longer narrower fogged windows on the side that faces the square.

    On the lower part of the L there are also three windows on the side that faces away from the square and two narrow fogged windows on the side that faces the square.

    There are no windows on the small ends of the L on the upper story.

    The door in on the side of the L that points towards the river about 1/4 of the way down that side from the corner. When you first enter you walk into the recreation room. There is a beat up L shaped faded blue couch facing an old chipped white TV hutch with an older looking TV in it. Behind the couch and two your right is a fooseball table that was donated to the school and even more to the right and around the corner is a wall. Against that wall in the far corner is an L shaped book case filled with books and old issues of magazines. There is a fuzzy neon green rug and a two been bags one gray and one pink.

    The floors of the house are an old wood with varied darknesses and the walls of the rec room are a light gray-purple.

    There is an opening to the wall near the square facing wall that leads into the kitchen/dinning room.

    Walking into the Kitchen/Dinning room the first thing you see is a round wood table with four mismatched wood chair shoved into the corner. Turn to your right and there is a long bar where food is normally set for kids to come and get. All the cabinetry is chipped white and the counters are a marbled dark gray. Walk past the long bar and you enter the kitchen area. There is an oddly light blue fridge on the inside wall and a white top-opening freezer. There are top cabinets and under the counter cabinets. Against the far wall is the oven and a gas stove and above that is a microwave. There is a dishwasher next to an industrial style sink on the wall across from the fridge and freezer. There is a small window above the sink.

    The floors are a black and white checked and the walls are off white with actual white pinstripes.

    If you turn around and go back through the rec room there is a set of stairs that leads to the top. It's a set of stairs and then a landing and then another set of stairs. Continue past the stairs and you will see a narrow hallway that goes between two rooms. The hallway is short and ends at the wall quickly. Turn to your left and there is a solid door. Enter the door and you have come into the phone room.

    There is a desk made out of two filing cabinets with a board lay across them. On top is a desktop pay phone that is a faded black from years of use. There is also a small notepad, a pen, and an off white egg timer on the desk. There is an old brown faux leather office chair in them room, but that is all the furniture.

    The floors are a biege shaggy carpet and the walls are dark green.

    When you leave the phone room and go across the hall you get to a swinging white door. Go in and you have come to the laundry room. On your right are a washer and dryer squeezed in so they barely fit side by side and on your left are two washers with two dryers on top. In front of you is a small cheap wood book case with some laundry detergent and dryer sheets.

    Upon going on the stairs if you go straight down the hall that points towards the river you will be in the older kids wing. On your left, the side of the house that faces away from the dirt square are three doors leading to each of the dorm rooms. On your right half way down in the door to the bathroom.

    The floors and stairs are the same as the rec room and the walls are a medium-dark purple.

    The older girls bathroom is tiled with large minitish green tiles on the floor and tinier mint tiles halfway up the wall. The tope line of tiles is black. The walls are a light gray above the tiled part.. There are four toilet stalls on your immiediate left when you first walk in, a long white speckled counter with three tin colored sinks along the wall with the windows and to your right is another wall with an opening that leads to the four shower stalls. The showers are the same color as the tiles except not tiled.

    Down the other wing of the house is the younger girls side. Their bathroom has pale dingy pink tiles with tiny tiles on the wals and bigger tiles on the floor. The very top row of the tiles on the wall his a row of navy blue tiles. The bathroom is set up the same as the older girls with four bathroom stalls on the immiedate left, a long speckled white counter on the wall with the windows with three tin color sinks. The showers are too the right and are the same pink color as the tiles except not tiles. The shower curtains are also the cheap white plastic ones.

House #4's door is not the original door as it had to be replaced a long time ago(Way before anyone at the school now was there). It's door is a darker gran of wood and has some white paint chips on it from being roughly sanded down once. The door has a frame of wood wood with vertical wood plabks in the middle of that frame. There is a large window placed in the middle of the top half of the door. This window is split by four mullions.

    Behind the couch blue ping pong table with a plastic tubby underneath that hols the ping pong paddles(Three in tact and one with duct-tape around the handle) and a round tupper ware that holds various colored pingpong balls.

    The laundry room is set up the same as the other houses with three washer and dryers one pair stacked on a nother on one end and just a single pair on the other. The floors are concrete.

    The phone room has a metal desk with file drawer making up one side of the desk. On it is a faded red desk top pay phone, a note pad, a pen, and a round egg timer that looks like an egg with a chicken painted on it.

    Wing #2(Wing pointing toward House #3): Wing two contains the kitchen and some of the rec room on the first floor and the young boys' wing on the second.

    Around the corner of the rec room and up against the wall shared with the kitchen is a long metal book shelf that runs all the way up the wall and halfway down it. It hold some board game boxes, books, and old issues of magazines. There is a shaggy black, white, and gray striped rug in front of the book shelf, one orange bean bag, and a lumpy fuax leather arm chair.

    The kictchen is laid out the same in all the houses, but the cabinetry and appliances are all different being either replaced at different times or just taking what was available on clearance.

    The fridge which is against the wall shared with the rec room is black and next to it is an upright freezer that is also black. The cabintry is all a medium dark wood the counters are light brown speckled and marbled with darker browns. The floors are gray stone tile and the walls are all off-white except the wall that the dinning table is against. That wall is a dark rust orange. The dinning room table a sqaure table with a dark wood top and four metal legs. There are two horizontal metal bars at the bottom attaching each pair of legs one pair facing the kitchen the other against the wall. The chairs are various wood and fold chairs gathered at different times.

@Envie Marina and Nathaniel aren't in the same house-- it's split by gender, anyways (she's in house 3, not 2)

@Ko T'suno,

There is no Art Teacher. The school doesn't have art classes. However your art teacher may be a different teacher or supervisor and run art club.

Sorry If I never made that clear.

Also thanks to y'all for making some more teachers! I'm appearantly not getting notifactions for this thread(Dunno why) so I didn't see these posts until now.

And if the teacher is not also a general supervisor who stays over night sometimes there is no need to put their room number. The adult house is only for the staff that stays overnight.

@-'ToxicGhostie'- i was soooo confused when you posted because i was like "Marina? but i havent posted do we have the same name???" lol i read through your CS once before but it never dawn on me that your marina and im merina (seraphina- get it ?? because she is an awesome swimmer and they liken her to a mermaid) i wonder if they would get annoyed if they were constantly mixed up

edit: oh and @Envie i love your layout i may borrow some things for my own post layout

omg xD I'm sure they would, and maybe it'll happen in the roleplay
I was actually thinking of having her on the swim team as well, but I guess my laptop was being wonky and didn't save the changes on the CS, but it's not a huge deal

im assuming we have college dorm styled shared bathrooms?

im assuming we have college dorm styled shared bathrooms?

Yes.

I was debating either having 2 smaller college style dorm bathrooms per house(that way 12-14 would use one bathroom and then the 15-18 would use the other. So ya know the younger kids don't have to share showers with the older ones)

Or having one larger bathroom per house.

@Icystorm, @Envie, @Ko T'suno, @-'ToxicGhostie'-

Please will y'all tell me which idea you prefer.

Sorry for the slow reply. Got busy and am trying to catch up with role plays. Will reply to this one tomorrow.

The two bathrooms might be best.

@Envie, @Icystorm, @Ko T'suno, @-'ToxicGhostie'-, @koolkat4595,

Hey y'all so I'm working on House descriptions and have the first on up. (Check under the housing tab). Please check it out and tell me if it makes any sense or if it's too confusing thanks! :-)

(Also if you wanna describe one of the houses just message me. The set up/shape of the Students Houses are all the same except for the orientation of the house. However the inside decor, floors, walls, etc can change)

Here is a diagram of how the houses are set up. (Dimensions not to scale..all the student dorms are the same size...I'm just bad at making neat shapes...)

I am horrible at going off of descriptions for rooms (normally have to focus way too much on creating the image in my head), but I read a few paragraphs and understood it fairly well, which is a big plus. I shall try to read the rest later.
