School Days

"Alright. I'll text mom and let her know we'll be home in a little bit." Brent replied, pulling out his cell phone. After sending the text, he looked at Kaleb. He could see the worried expression in his eyes and it broke the blond's heart. He wouldn't let anything happen to him. "Oh uhm, we should all exchange numbers now...in case of emergency. We need to be able to contact one another.." he thought suddenly as he looked down at his phone.

When the exchanges were made, Brent looked to his friend again. "Well...are you ready to go?" He asked. He felt anxious to go. He wanted them to hurry home and to just not leave for the next few days. If he could just keep him there; keep him safe, then no harm would come to him. He wanted to say something encouraging but couldn't find his voice. He also wanted to reach out to him, but couldn't. He just needed the right moment.

Kaleb nodded his head and looked at Jacob and sunshine. Sunshine was going to stay and help with Selina since Jacob had to go out and get somethings for Selina when she wakes up. He sighed and said goodbye, not sure if they would be his last. He got into his car and started it, driving with Brent to the Casino. He went inside and grabbed his things going back to the car, his uncle giving him a knowing nod. He got into the car and then drove to his house. Once there he motioned for Brent to go with him.

Through the whole car ride with Kaleb, the blond sat there quietly. He didn't really know what to say in such a situation. Was there really anything he could say? Perhaps it was best to remain silent for the time being so that Kaleb could at least be alone in his thoughts; mental space. That's what he would want at least.

When they finally arrived at his house, Brent got out of the car as Kaleb motioned him to. He followed behind him, looking at the ground, but occasionally glancing up at him. He suddenly felt that if he took his eyes off of him for a moment he would just disappear and that thought he couldn't bear, especially after learning their deep connection. It was as if a trigger had been pulled in his heart. This person's very life depended upon him after all. Nobody had ever depended upon the blond before in his whole life.

When he got to the door, and opened it, a tall woman was there, talking into the phone in another language. "Mom?" he asked softly. The woman turned to face the two of them, revealing a beautiful face. It was obvious that Kaleb got his looks from his mom. "Kaleb? Your home early... Oh, hello, who's your friend Kaleb?" she asked. She had a gentle mom look to her and it was funny because she was wearing an apron with a monkey with a chefs hat. She had been baking, the smell of brownies wafting to them. "This is Brent," he said to her softly. She smiled at him and did a similar bow just as Sunshine. "Are you both hungry? I was making burgers, brownies and french fries," she said softly.

Brent smiled at the beautiful woman. Kaleb really did take after her. He loved the apron she wore; he thought it was absolutely adorable. Never in his life did he see his own mother dawn an apron before. She too, was very into business like his father. The reason she was able to up and leave to another part of the country was that she was her own boss. She was a doctor that had her own private practice. And since they didn't need the money due to his father's success, her reasonable prices kept everyone eagerly welcoming her.

When Kaleb's mother greeted him, Brent bowed in a similar fashion and smiled, "Hello, nice to meet you M'am." She had offered the two of them dinner and immediately the blond thought 'Oh no...this is almost too much. If I don't do something from changing his fate, this could be the last dinner he had with her...' That made him quickly jump on the offer without waiting for Kaleb to respond, "I am pretty starving. It was a long day at school and the cafeteria food just didn't last long for me..." He grinned and scratched his head. He then elbowed the redhead gently and asked, "So, will you show me your room?"

She smiled at Brent and nodded her head, ushering them both inside. Kaleb smiled at her, not having the heart to tell her what was going on. She was always so happy and cheerful. She smiled at them both. "So boys, what would you guys like to have on your burgers?" she asked smiling at them. "Oh, the french fries are cooled enough if you boys would like to snake on them now. Kaleb smiled at his mom. She smiled back. "Oh! That reminds me! I made lemonade!" she said excitedly. She went to the fridge pulled the pitcher of fresh lemonade out.

"Uhm, I like mayo, pickles, and cheese if you have them." Brent responded. This woman was so sweet. It broke his heart to know something so terrible that could hurt her so much. He glanced over at Kaleb then and saw the warm smile the two of them exchanged. "Lemonade sounds wonderful. Your mom is really something. Both beautiful and talented in the culinary arts." He was trying to sound high in spirits. He sometimes got this way when he was feeling sad or guilty. Ironically he liked to try and make lemons into lemonade. "We usually order take-out unless I decide to cook something." He gave a sheepish chuckle and scratched his head, feeling now as if he was rambling.

She smiled and nodded her head. "Oki doki, coming up," she said smiling. She began making the burgers, knowing how Kaleb liked his burgers. "Thank you Brent, such kind words," she said softly to him smiling. Kaleb looked at Brent a look of sadness in his eyes. He didn't want to tell his mother what might happen but he knew how she was. She would be sadder that he hadn't trusted her enough to tell her what had happened. Once all the food was done, she set the burgers in front of the boys, a nice helping of fries on the plates as well. She got them glasses and poured them a nice big glass of Lemonade.

Brent smiled in response to Kaleb's mother. When she continued about the meal preparations, the redhead had looked over and made eye-contact with the blond. He shared the same expression with him.He felt so bad for Kaleb. When he was sure his mother wasn't looking, Brent reached over and put his hand over the other male's momentarily, then let go when he thought she was turning around.

(sorry it's so short. my mom came in here and was distracting me badly and I forgot what i was going to write)

(Thats okay it happens)

She smiled at the two of them unknowing of what might happen to her son. She smiled, nibbling on a fry from her plate. "So your new in town? I've haven't seen you around the school before," she asked softly. She was an avid helper of the school although her son had no friends in the place. She smiled at Brent. Kaleb had felt relaxed with Brent's hand in his own hand. He didn't feel as terrified of dying, he felt terrified of being separated from Brent, why? He had no idea.

Brent blinked then returned his attention to Kaleb's mother as if everything was fine. "Yes, I just moved here a few days ago. Today was my first day of school," he replied,"My dad's business transferred him here from Los Angles. It's a computer software company." He explained the whole story of how they moved a lot and how he liked New Orleans so far. It was starting to feel like a lie. He had gone from just a new kid to a messenger of death. "Kaleb's been a big help to me adjusting here. I didn't think I'd be able to make a friend so quickly." He smiled at him, then averted his attention to the burgers which looked absolutely perfect.

As they sat down to eat, the blond placed himself next to Kaleb. The food looked and smelled great. He took a bite of a fry and closed his eyes to savor it. He didn't even know how he was able to eat anything after the terrible things he'd witnessed that day, but for some reason he felt fine with the other male being at his side. It just felt right. "You are as wonderful as a cook as you are beautiful..." he complimented the woman.

She smiled at him. "Then welcome to New Orlean's," she said in a cajun accent. She stayed quiet, listening to Brent explain why they had moved here and such. When he began eating she smiled happily. "I'm very glad you like it. I love cooking so I spend most of my time in here," she said softly, looking around the kitchen. It was kept imaculatly clean considering she cooks all the time. Good thing that she is OCD and has to have everything clean. Kaleb had begun to eat, although he really did not want to, but his mother would know instantly something was wrong.

"Thank you." Brent replied sweetly as he ate. He glanced over from time-to-time at Kaleb. He wanted nothing more then to just hug him and hold him in his arms like the fourth card had revealed. He still wasn't for sure how exactly to make such a thing reality. He thought about it long and hard while they ate. He had only ever been in a relationship with one guy before. One of his closest friends in LA to be exact. The other male had been the one to pursue Brent because he was not only shy, but at the same time unsure about his sexuality. He hadn't even been broken-up with him that long either. It kind of made him feel guilty for a split second. Then again, these fates bot Selina and Sunshine mentioned said that he and Kaleb were soul mates. He just didn't know what to do. Maybe it would happen naturally that they could both express themselves towards one another.

She smiled and began eating smiling at them both. She knew something was up. Call it mothers intuition but she knew something was wrong. "So... Would either one of you mind telling me what's going on?" she asked after a little while, looking between the two boys. "I can tell something is wrong and it has something to do with the both of you so please don't lie and try to hide it from me anymore..." she said softly. Kaleb sighed. "We saw Selina today...." he began. His mothers face fell then. She knew about Selina's powers but she was clearly concerned. "What did she say?" she asked.

The blond was caught off guard by the intuition of Kaleb's mom. She'd been so happy and calm in demeanor and both of the guys had did fairly well at hiding how they were really feeling. He couldn't help but wonder if everyone in New Orleans were this good with their instincts. He waited for Kaleb to respond first, trying his best not to butt in to their business. He felt so out of place in this. He did tell her after looking to Kaleb for permission. He spared the both of them just how horrific the card was that revealed his tragic demise. "I'll do anything in my power to keep Kaleb safe." He tried to reassure her without looking at the redhead. He couldn't possibly look him in the face saying something like that without getting flustered, no matter how serious the situation.

She looked horrified and she looked like she would cry. But she looked to Brent when he spoke. She nodded her head to him. She stood up and went to Kaleb and hugged him tight. He hugged her back and his his face in her chest, trying very hard not to cry. She held her son closely, unsure if it would be the last time she would hug him.

Brent lowered his head as she got up to hug Kaleb. It was too sad to watch. He wanted to assure her that he would be alright, but he couldn't. He had no idea how he of all people could save him regardless of what Selina's fortune told. Running his fingers through his hair, he looked up at the two of the after a few moments passed. "Uhm, I almost forgot that Jacob wanted us to have you go to their house." Maybe they should have spoken-up sooner so she could go and help the fortune-teller.

She pulled away after a few moments looking at Kaleb and leaning down to kiss his forehead. "Everything will be alright...." she whispered softly to Kaleb. Kaleb nodded his head. "Brent, why don't you call your mom and have her go to Jacob's house to meet us there. I think if your the one who saves my sons life, then she will need to know what is going on and lying to her won't make this easier," she said softly to Brent. "I'm going to go pack a bag," she said softly.

The suggestion of explaining such things to his mom caught Brent by surprise. He never intended on it. He knew that she wouldn't believe him. She'd tell him that Kaleb was pulling some sort of elaborate prank on him since he was the new kid or something along the lines. She was the sort of non-superstitious and anti-religious sort of doctors. That was it! The blonde could lure her to Jacob's house by telling her that Selina had passed out and they didn't have a regular physician. She'd be there in a heart beat. They could then explain to her what was going on and try to convince her.

After coming up with this plan, Brent relayed his idea to Kaleb and his mother, trying to explain her stubbornness. Once he'd convinced Kaleb's mom that it was the only way he called and told her. She took the bait and he gave her the address. "Alright. She said she'd make it over to Jacob's between 20 to 30 minutes." he told them after he'd let her go. "So, what do we do from here?" He asked, looking at Kaleb.

"I need to get to the house first," she said a bag at her feet. She looked at them both, a look of Worry and sadness in her eyes. "I'll drive you both to the house," she said softly, grabbing her keys. She pulled her coat on and went to the door, opening it and letting both boys out. There had been another car there in the driveway and she unlocked it, motioning for them to get in. She set her bag at Kaleb's feet and told them to put their seat belts on.
