School Days

Brent nodded to Kaleb's suggestion, "Yes, you take care of your shop and I'll help him get Selina home." He then rushed to her side to help the redhead get her up. "It's totally fine, I understand. We can reschedule for another day. Our priority is definitely her first, then you getting to work on time." He was not the type to complain when plans were foiled and this was very serious. He felt guilty for her sudden collapse and he also was afraid to let his new friend from his sight.

(damn i thought i hit send >.<)

Kaleb nodded his head. "I got her, just help me make sure that she doesn't hit her head," Kaleb asked softly, lifting Selina bridal style, making sure her head rested against his chest and did not hang freely. He walked quickly, avoiding the crowds easily with his knowledge. They were back at his car after ten minutes. He set her down in the back seat. "Can you sit with her,"he asked Brent.

As they made their way through the crowd, the blond made sure that the girl's head didn't fall and that nobody bumped into them. He was relieved they had managed to make it to the vehicle without incident. "Sure, no problem." Brent replied after they'd managed to get Selina into the vehicle. He got inside and buckled her in and propped her head to lean against his shoulder so it didn't jar around. He then buckled-in himself.

After a moment of silence, Brent decided to talk to Kaleb. He'd been so hesitant to speak, still perplexed by what the fortune-teller had told him. "Has she ever done this before that you know of?" he asked, looking at Selina who was still passed out. "It was really scarey..." He sounded like a pansy to the other male probably, but he was freaked-out enough not to care.

"Only once before... Before Katrina hit. She had warned us and we were able to warn enough people before the storm hit on the same night she said it would," he said softly a bit of fear in his eyes as he buckled in and started the car. He drove off and headed out of the Quarter. He drove for a while before pulling into the Driveway of a very simple looking home. He parked the car and got out, going to the back and getting Selina out. He carried her to the door, which opened as if on cue. "What happened?" a taller, older version of Kaleb asked, only he had black hair. "She had a vision," he said softly, letting his older brother take his sister in-law from him. "Come in, Come in," the man said.

Brent's eyes widen at Kaleb's response. So she really was able to predict the future. And everything that happened in her tent had really happened. It took him a moment to grasp this fact before he got out of the car and followed after them. He was surprised by the appearance of the person who had opened the door. So they were related. They had to be. He nodded to the older male and followed after Kaleb.

Once inside of the home, the blond stood there quietly to the edge of the door way. He looked like he was in shock, but he was deep in thought. He was reflecting on what Selina had told him about how he could save Kaleb. The truth was he didn't understand how they were 'intertwined'. He could take this in different ways, though the one he thought of made him weary. The blond didn't want to scare Kaleb away if he had been mistaken by that thought. And he also wondered if it could be the very thing that put Kaleb in danger: his interpretation.

Kaleb sighed and walked into the nice home. "I hope she's alright Jacob," Kaleb said softly. Jacob laid Selina down on the sofa. From the looks of her she wasn't as deathly looking as before and now she just looked like she was sleeping. "What was it she saw?" Jacob asked Kaleb. He then noticed Brent. "Oh, sorry, Kaleb who's your friend?" he asked. "Oh, right, Brent this is my older brother and Selina's husband, Jacob. Jacob, this is my friend Brent, he's new in town," Kaleb explained. Jacob nodded his head, but looked back to Kaleb. "What was it that she saw?" he asked softly.

Brent snapped from his thoughts when Jacob spoke, "Oh, hello. Nice to meet you..." It was nice to meet him indeed, although the circumstances weren't. When he'd asked the redhead what Selina saw, Brent bit his bottom lip. reluctant to speak at first. "Uhm...she was doing a future prediction with me..." he began, "At first everything was fine. She spoke of my traveling and of my singing performance earlier today. Then...then she saw Kaleb. There was something about Mardi Gras, though I don't understand it." He really didn't. "She then pulled a fourth card. Which I know isn't right for future-telling...I've done this before. It looked like me on it. She told me I can change it..." He didn't give the details exactly of the card, not wanting to tell Kaleb the horrible image of him. Nor did he want to tell him about the two of them together on the fourth card. "The last thing she said before passing out was to stay away from the Shadow Man when I asked her what it all meant." He couldn't help but to look at Kaleb with a sad expression.

Jacob sighed and looked at Selina, worry in his eyes, but love was there as well. Kaleb looked at Brent and sighed softly. "Don't blame yourself Brent, she has these every once in a while, but it's usually with specific people. Did she say anything else? We need to know everything to make sure nothing bad happens. Ever detail helps," Jacob said standing up and pulling the blanket that was on the couch, over her body. "Because when she wakes up she won't remember even meeting you," he said softly, sadly, as if he had been through it before.

The blond's hands balled into fists from nervousness. It was really hard for him, but he knew it was probably the right thing to do. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath as he tried to remain calm. "The f-future card...showed Kaleb covered in...blood with people dressed for Mardis Gras behind him. I think he was dead." he admitted to Jacob when his eyes opened. He couldn't even look at the redhead when he spoke. "The fourth card...it showed us...together...happily. She said I can...save...you. Just stay away from the Shadow Man." He finally added to Kaleb. He closed his eyes again.

(I just received my first random friendship request o.O;)

(From who?)

Jacob looked at Kaleb, who had become pale at the relazation. "I'm playing for Mardis Gras at the casino..." he said softly looking to Jacob. "I need to talk to Uncle Frank," he said nervously. When Brent said that she told him he would save Kaleb he relaxed. "What were her exact words when she spoke about the shadow man," Jacob asked standing up now and looking worried about his brother.

(MYCOOLPET...I've never spoken to that person before...I don't think.)

"'Don't let him near the shadow man'. Those were her last words before she collapsed." Brent told Jacob. He ran his hand over the back of his head, down to the nape of his neck. This whole thing was almost more than he could take. He looked over at Kaleb, obviously worried about him. He could only imagine what he was feeling at that moment. A fortune-teller revealed his death unless this stranger saves him. "W-what should we do?" He asked.

(They probably want to get to know you or something)

Jacob nodded his head. "Your not performing at Mardis Gras. I don't care what Uncle Frank says," Jacob said to Kaleb. Kaleb just nodded his head. Mardis Gras was in three days. He would die in three days. But... she said that Brent would save him. How? How would he save him? These questions kept running through his mind. How would the shadow man try and hurt him? Thats something he wanted to know. "The shadow man is just a sneaky guy who calls himself a voodoo priest.... How could he hurt me?" he asked Jacob.

"After what I witnessed today...it wouldn't be too far fetched to believe that was one..." Brent admitted out loud. He shifted around where he stood, moving his arms to cross in front of him. "Have you ever had a confrontation with him before? Or has he ever heard you tell anyone he was phony perhaps?" He didn't want to overwhelm Kaleb with questions, but if he was supposed to be the one that saved him, he needed to know everything about him and about this guy. How was he going to be able to help him? "Maybe...maybe you can stay with me until after Mardi Gras? My parents wouldn't mind. Our place is huge..." He suddenly felt the urge to keep him under close observation until after the holiday had passed. Maybe that's what he was supposed to do. He then remembered Selina saying 'the boy from the lands far from here.... can save the one that he holds dear. For he may not know but the fates have taken their threads and are now intertwined'. What threads? And 'holds dear'? He glanced up at Kaleb from having been staring at the floor, then blushed and looked back down, hopefully before he saw his glance.

"No... I've never talked to him, he's had problems with my uncle in the past, since he owed the casino money and tried to get his way around the debt," Kaleb said softly in a confused tone. "All the locals call him a phony I'm not the only one," he said nervousness in his body. When Brent offered to let Kaleb stay with him Kaleb nodded his head. "I think that might be best, considering she said you'd be the one to save him," Jacob said to Brent. Kaleb wanted to protest, but that look in his brothers eyes meant he should just shut up and do as he's told. A knock came from the door and sunshine was there. "I need to talk to Brent," she said softly to Jacob. Jacob let her in and she looked to Brent motioning for him to follow her. "When Kaleb first brought you to see us, Selina told me that you both would end up being together, as a couple. I thought she might have been joking but did she say anything to you about it, like threads and such?" she asked softly, not wanting Kaleb to hear.

Brent listened to Kaleb intently. Maybe the guy wanted to get even with his uncle or something then. Any guess was good as his. When Sunshine arrived, the blonde moved for her to enter. It surprised him that she wanted to speak with him privately. What she had to say made him flush slightly. "Yes...she did speak of threads..." he replied to her quietly, "something about the fates intertwining them." he bit his bottom lip. He'd barely known Kaleb. He didn't even think the redhead was gay. In fact, Kaleb probably didn't know that Brent was either. The blond did his best to hide it, especially since he was the new kid and people would probably be judgmental towards him. His dad didn't even know though his mother did. "Is he...?" He couldn't even ask Sunshine the question fully.

Sunshine wanted to smile but she kept her composure. "It means your soul mates," she said softly. "The fates are the greeks version of life and death. They know everything about every soul, past future and present. When the fates deem two people soul mates, they intertwine the 'threads' or lives of the people. It means that even if you left right now, no one else would make you happier then Kaleb. It's a gift and a curse. That why you might feel over protective of him now, much more then a stranger would in a normal circumstance," sunshine explained as best as she could. Selina was the real expert but she was out like a light. When Brent tried to ask her if Kaleb was gay, she nodded her head. Everyone in their close knit circle knew this and it was why a lot of people stayed away from him, since they think he's a freak, but no one other then the family knows he's gay.

Brent's face became a deeper shade of pink. He couldn't believe what he was hearing. They were actually soul mates?! His blue eyes widened by the thought and he was speechless for a moment. He tried to consider evidence of this. The way he stood out amongst everyone during math. How he managed to find him, of all people, in such a large school. There was also the ease he had approaching him when everyone else kept their distance. He felt extremely comfortable around him, enough to sing publicly like that. It was bold even for him. When he finally began to accept this, he spoke again in a quiet voice, "If this is true...if we're meant to be...there's no way I could just simply tell him these fates decided we're supposed to be together. That's not how it should work." He paused for a moment to continue, "I do feel a connection with him...I just want it to...grow naturally. No fortune demanding it. So basically...I don't want him to know this thread thing. Is that selfish?" He looked down at the ground, terribly embarrassed.

(this is so much fun I have to tell you >.<)

Sunshine nodded her head, understanding this. "I know how you feel. Selina didn't tell Jacob that they were soul mates until after the wedding," Sunshine said softly to Brent. "Just be honest with him when the time comes. He might ask you about it once more," she said softly, before bother brothers came into the kitchen, Jacob going to the cabinet and getting a glass and filling it with water. Kaleb was just there because... he didn't really know why he just was.

Brent nodded and was just about to say something else before the two brothers entered the kitchen. Instead he scratched the side of his head and pretended to have been talking casually with Sunshine. Really he wanted the heat in his face to go away so he didn't look suspicious. Turning to face the redhead, Brent began to speak, "So uhm...about staying at my place..." He smiled and ran his fingers on through his hair, "we need a story for my parents. It's not that they don't mind. They both just get a little nosey. Plus, it's only been a day that we've known one another..." A sudden thought occurred to him just then. His mom knew his secret and with some strange guy suddenly spending the night, frequently, would give her the wrong idea for sure. But then again, how wrong was it? He bit his tongue to prevent the blush that would've reappeared otherwise. "You're helping me catch up with my studies maybe? And to rehearse for the singing gig..." They really could do those things so it wouldn't really be a made-up story.

Kaleb nodded his head. "That sounds fine to me... I'll have to grab some clothes and let my mom know whats happening..." Kaleb said softly to Brent. Jacob nodded his head. "For right now, just go to the casino and grab your stuff. I'll call uncle Frank and explain it to him and then you can head home and talk to mom. And have her come over here," he said to Kaleb. Kaleb nodded his head to his brother and sighed softly to himself. He could die... he could really die.
