School Days

It took every ounce of self-restraint for the blonde not to chuckle at the scene between Kaleb and his uncle. When he was introduced, Brent smiled and nodded to the man. He totally looked like a person who would own a casino he thought to himself. When the redhead didn't hesitate to mention the singing job to the man, or the man's quick decision to actually hire him, the blonde's eyes widen with surprise. He didn't think it'd be so quick. There were no auditions, resumes to fill-out, anything. And he'd be starting so soon. He felt his head spinning. "Wow!...it's always like this around here?" He didn't mean to ask that out loud exactly, but it slipped regardless.

Kaleb just chuckled. "Yeah, basically. He trusts my judgement since the band that plays were my recommendation and they attracted more people," he said smiling to Brent, putting his stuff away. After a little while he smiled. "Alright lets go LA," he said smirking to the boy and walking towards the front of the Casino. He went out through the front and outside there were a punch of people, setting up decorations and stuff.

"That's awesome." Brent smiled. After the brief look around the back, Kaleb was ready to go. He really liked his nickname; it made him grin almost involuntarily. Following after him, the blond tried to think of one for him. He was too cool for anything he could come up with just yet. He needed to get to know him a little more. When they walked out front, Brent looked around at all of the busy workers, the slots, the bar, everything. It looked really amazing. Definitely New Orleans' equivalent to the Palace in Vegas. It would definitely be one hell of a place for his first job. Now he just needed his parents' approval. He was a good kid, listening to his folks for the most part. And it was an important thing.

When they got back outside he stretched his arms out wide then towards the sky, "You, my friend, are great! Seriously. That place is so cool. And you haven't even heard me sing yet. How can you have such blind faith in my abilities?" He had to ask with a laugh. He didn't know anyone else that would do something like that. As they got into the car, the blond's excitement increased. He felt the shops and street venders just waiting for him. He was in such a great mood.

"Well, sing for me," he asked Brent suddenly, stopping outside of the casino. "I have faith in you because only someone who is good at what they do, with the look you had in your eyes when you spoke about singing," he said simply to Brent. Thats the same look he got when he talked about playing guitar even though he knew he wasn't that good compared to many. He was still better then average.

Brent's blue eyes widened as he was suddenly put in the spotlight like that. Hearing his explanation made butterflies enter his stomach to boot. "Hmm...what should I sing..." He thought for a moment about it. He wanted something that could definitely show his range, but nothing overly theatrical. When he came to a decision, Brent closed his eyes and began to sing 'Tied In Knots' by Sleeping with Sirens. He'd been told he sounded exactly like Kellin Quinn, sometimes a bit deeper, but hardly. He liked the band, but wasn't his favorite. It just did his vocals justice.

(Dude, new favorite song)

Kaleb listened to Brent sing and noticed a few people had stopped and was listening to Brent sing. His type of voice wasn't normal for them but it was still beautiful and Kaleb smiled at the sound. He watched Brent as he sang and he let people get a bit closer to listen. When Brent finished, everyone around them started clapping. "I think they assured my choice. Beside's you'll fit right in with the band," he said smiling at Brent.

(Lol my friend is obsessed with the band. I'm only just now into this sort of music. I still prefer Disturbed, Slipknot, and Five Finger Death Punch over this XD )

When he was singing, everything around him had faded away. His eyes were closed as he let the high notes out. The sound of applause around him caught him off guard when he'd stopped and opened his eyes. He scratched the back of his head and smiled, bowing a bit towards the spectators. Looking to Kaleb he said, "Well, I'm glad you think so..." He was very humble about his musical abilities, but very passionate about it as well. He really would've never did that in public if it wasn't for the redhead's slight encouragement. "I can't wait to meet the band then!" He laughed. "So now that I've passed the audition, I think it's time to celebrate with some shopping..."

(Dude.... I freakin love you! Those are all my favorites, but I've been getting into all sorts of music, since it was my major in high school)

Kaleb just chuckled. "Alright, but try and find your wallet," he said smirking to the blonde before turned and began walking down the street. The street was bit less hectic then closer to the casino. He smiled though, saying hello to a lot of the shop owners. "Come on, you have to meet Sunshine and Selina," he said to Brent, walking towards a large square. In the square was a few random carts and tables, but only two stuck out to him. He walked over to a very tall, very beautiful blonde girl, wearing bright pink tights and a see through black maxi skirt with a black corset on. He came up behind her and pinched her side. She jumped and yelped. "Kaleb!!" she yelled when she saw him. "Hey Sunshine," he said laughing a little as she playfully punched his arm. "Woah..." she said, looking at Brent. She had some paint on her face and she walked around Kaleb, clearly barefoot and walked around Brent once, examining him. "Who's the cutie Kaleb?" she asked him. "He's a new kid from school. Brent this is Sunshine, Sunshine this is Brent," he said introducing the two. She smiled at Brent and put her hands together and bowed slightly. She had various braids and beads and feather in her long dirty blonde hair that was naturally wavy.

(Lol. I'm as eclectic with music as Brent. Rock's just what I've been raised on though)

"Challenge accepted..." Brent smirked as they made their way to the square area. When Kaleb approached the blonde girl, Brent watched and smiled as he surprised her. As she circled him, he stood there with a smile. He was slightly used to 'unique' individuals like Sunshine, having hung out on the boardwalk most of his free days in LA. He was friends with a lot of street performers. "Nice to meet you...and thanks." He replied, bowing slightly to her, and giving a wink for the 'cute' remark and chuckled lightly.

She smiled at him and imedeatly liked him. "I like him. From where did you say?" he asked, leaning her head towards Kaleb. "LA Sunshine," he said chuckling. Sunshine squealed suddenly and jumped up and down in excitement. "LA!! Los Angeles! The City of Fallen angels and quakes of the earth," she said swooning somewhat. She laughed a little though when she composed herself and smiled at Brent. "Selina!!!! Get your big ass over here!!" Sunshine yelled. A crash came from a few feet next to them. "God damn it Sun!!" A deeper, more exotic sounding voice said. Another beautiful girl came over, through the beaded curtains that hid enclosed the stand. She looked like a real life version of Ezmeralda from the Hunchback of Notre Dame, curled black hair and everything, only her eyes were mis-matched, one blue and the other green. "Oh! Kaleb, what spoils have you brought me from the other side?" she asked Kaleb smirking at Kaleb. "Nothing to report but I bring you a former dweller of the city of Angels," he said motioning to Brent. She smiled and looked into Brent's eyes, almost mesmerizing him. She blushed suddenly and looked from Brent to Kaleb. She smiled giddily before she grabbed sunshine and pulled her over, whispering something to her in another language. Sunshine gasped and smiled happily. "Really?" she asked as Selina pulled away. She nodded her head to sunshine. She smiled at Kaleb who gave her a creeped out look.

Sunshine's excitement made Brent's blue eyes widen. He was surprised by it. And when he heard the crashing sound, he quickly directed his attention to the tent. When the other lady appeared, he nodded to her as he was introduced in a rather grand manner almost causing him to laugh, "Hi, nice to meet you..." When she stared into his eyes he couldn't help but blush slightly. He'd never had someone do that to him exactly and didn't know how to react. And when the two girls started giggling amongst themselves and whispering, his eyebrows raised and he looked over at Kaleb to see if he had a clue as to what was going on and judging by his expression he certainly didn't.

Selina smiled and looked at the both of them. "Oi tyches chamogeloun kato gia tous dyo sas," Selina said to the both of them. "I'm sorry Slenia, I don't speak greek!" Kaleb said, poking the girl in the side, which caused her to jump. "Ah, sorry. I said the fates are smiling down upon the both of you," she said cryptically. Sunshine had gone off and had a notebook in her hand. She was sketching Brent. She smiled after a little while and showed it to him. "Fastest drawer since 4th grade," she said smiling happily. Selina smiled. "So would you like to see your future Brent?" she asked the blonde. Kaleb rolled his eyes, clearly not believing in it. "Come on Selina," he said. She hushed him and took Brents hand, pulling him into the tent. She had henna markings all over her palms and she was also, barefoot. "Sit," she motioned, revealing a simple table and two chairs. A stack of cards on the table. She had various items all over the tent. She sold odd trinkets she gets from grece and other places she goes to.

When Selina spoke to the two of them, Brent tilted his head, not understanding what she meant by that. He looked once again at Kaleb to see if he understood, then quickly looked to see Sunshine's sketch of him, "Wow, I can see that!" She was very impressive, "I also draw and paint. I love art so very much." Turning his attention to Selina once more he nodded, "Yes! I'd love to have my fortune read." He loved doing this sort of thing and he was definitely glad to be introduced to such interesting people. He followed after her and sat down as instructed.

She smiled at him, Kaleb stayed outside talking to Sunshine, their chatter heard from outside. She took the deck of cards and shuffled them expertly. She then held them out spread evenly. "Choose three cards, young one," she said, her eyes somehow brighter. and the color more vivid She smiled at him as he took the cards. She set them down, all in a row and she closed her eyes. She opened them and touched the card gently. "You've lived in many places, each at separate times. These were not by choice of yours but by someone else's mind," she began, lifting the card and turning it, revealing a very similar looking character to Brent's father. The image was of the man standing under a dark cloud and him ushering a group of people.

After picking the three cards, Brent listened to Seline intently as she accurately read his past. The cards resemblance of his father made his blue eyes widen. Beneath the sleeves of his shirt he had goosebumps. He didn't respond to her verbally, but nodded. He was absolutely mesmerized by her abilities. He was pretty sure Kaleb hadn't revealed anything about him to the fortune-teller; he'd been standing right beside him the whole time.

She watched him a moment before her hand went to the next card. Her eyes closed then, vibrating slightly for a moment. "Your voice will ring out as applause fill the air. Thanks to the boy of flames, who will be there. He will be at your side as the crowd cheers but no one among them will be peers," she began, turning the card over, revealing a character that looked like Brent standing on higher ground while a crowd of people cheer. Next to him another character that looked just like Kaleb. She felt her eyes roll back as the card began to change. "The two are destined to be," she murmured softly, the hands of the characters now holding onto one another. She panted slightly but her eyes went back to normal. She looked a bit surprised herself by how powerful the visions were. She looked frightened as she reached for the next card she stopped. She reached into the deck of cards once more pulling out a completely random card. "The boy of flames will burn out, after the day of fools and jewels," she whispered turning the card over, still not looking at the table but as if she was no longer in her body. It was the same character that looked like Kaleb but now laying the ground, the ground staining red, while everything else on the card looked like it was part of the Madis Gras parade.

"But.... the boy from the lands far from here.... can save the one that he holds dear. For he may not know but the fates have taken their threads and are now intertwined " she said, the last card of Brents turning on its own. It showed, Brent holding Kaleb in his arms, both of them smiling.

She let out a deep breath and her body moved back slightly as if she had been put back into it. She looked at Brent, the cards all now blank, black canvases of what was once there.

Brent was stunned by what he was witnessing. This was all real. He was on that second card. Both he and Kaleb. And when that third card was revealed the blond put his hand up to his mouth in shock. What was happening in that picture? He absolutely hated it. It made his stomach upset. His free hand suddenly gripped the edge of his seat as she pulled the last card out. He didn't really understand their 'threads' being intertwined. He looked at the two of them, happy and together. He bit his bottom lip and stared at the scene.

When she returned to normal, Brent stared at Seline with wide eyes. He was speechless. He was also afraid by the premonitions and he didn't even know where to began on asking her about what just occurred. More than how it happened, the blonde wanted to know what he should do to help Kaleb. "What's he going to do? How do I help him?" he asked her.

She shook her head, her hand coming up and gripping her head, a look of pain on her face. "Don't... Don't let him near the shadow man...." she whispered before she fell forward against the table, loosing consciousness Sunshine heard the thump from outside and they both came rushing in. "What happened? Sel?" Sunshine asked, going over to her friend. Kaleb looked at the scene and then at the cards. "She was reading your cards?" Kaleb asked. "But why would she pass out from doing that," he asked in confusion Sunshine knew what was going on and it scarred her. The last time Selina had one of these visions, she had told sunshine that something bad would happen on the rise of the crescent moon. Five days later on the crescent moon, Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans. "What did she say?" sunshine asked Brent.

Brent didn't know what to say. Could he tell them? If so, would it effect the outcome of her premonitions? The blond sat there, stunned for a moment, then looked over at Kaleb for a moment. "At first she read my past about moving around a lot. Then she predicted my singing with all of those spectators. But then..." he hesitated and looked down at the ground. He didn't know how to tell Kaleb what he saw. "Mardis Gras. Something bad might happen at Mardis Gras...unless I do something to stop it." He couldn't look at the redhead at that moment or he would probably start to cry. It was a horrific sight for anyone to witness what he'd seen. "She warned me for us to stay away from the Shadow Man..." he finally said as he looked up to Kaleb after a moment, then to Sunshine. "or else something very terrible will happen..."

(Your plot twist is awesome! I've never written anything like this before >.<)

(I'm glad you liked it :) )

Kaleb looked at Brent and then to Sunshine. Sunshine nodded her head. "Shadow man... he's always up to no good. Kaleb help me get Selina home. Her husband will be worried if she's late," Sunshine said, a look of worry on her own face. Selina looked almost dead, but the subtle breathing told them otherwise. "I'll take her home, you just pack up and lock up," he said to Sunshine. "Brent I'm sorry but once I get Selina home, I might not have that much time to show you any other shops," he said softly to Brent, motioning for the boy to follow him.
