Like the others, but sci fi this time. Because sci fi is the best of all the genres, right? And it's fun, so suck it up.

You know the drill: I post images, and you describe what you see. Sights, sounds, smells, all that good stuff. Whatever comes to mind, be it a short story or something else. Feel free to write two sentences or a few paragraphs-- whatever works for you.

Image #1

Glancing out the window into the approaching night, Claire sighed. She was old enough to remember when it was safe to be out there and hear the sounds of people, vehicles, and even animals. Now the air was full of toxic fumes and dangerous bacteria. No one ever ventured out there now. They were herded into these towers and connected by tubes in a forced isolation from the natural world.

Pushing away from the window and the ache in her heart she moved through her sterile white quarters to the bedroom and stared at the pack on the bed. Did she have the courage to leave? Would she die the second she was outside the tower's confines? Hector seemed to think they were being lied to, that the air wasn't as deadly as they were being led to believe. It was a crap shoot at best and certain death at worst, but it was better than living like this in a test tube. Grabbing the pack, she tapped the pad at the door to her quarters and locked it behind her as she stepped through without even a glance back at it.
