Saving Each Other

"No Teddy I didn't want to disrespect your space and your stuff. I thought you would prefer to move it yourself." Griffin told her stiffly. He didn't know if she was accusing him or not. He didn't know enough to know her well enough to know if she was easily upset or not. He watched her curiously. He liked to watch people. It helped him understand them. The more he understood the better he could predict their behavior. The better he predicted their behavior the less he got hurt. She was tiny but that didn't mean that she couldn't hurt him. He had learned to be leery of everyone.

Teddi nodded. She felt extremely tired and a touch confused. She realized she hand't taken her 'supply' bag with her to the locker room. Her blood sugar was probably low. She grabbed her backpack and sitting on the ground she fumbled through her bag to find her device to check her blood sugars. She pulled it out and stood up. She didn't to wash her hands before this.
Teddi shook her head trying to clear it. She set the device down on her desk and started to search through her desk for some hand sanitizer. Where did she put it? Her hands were shaking a bit more, she needed to get this done and get her insulin. She let out a frustrated grunt when she couldn't find her hand sanitizer maybe she left it in her bag she grabbed her bag and started to rip through it.

Griffin watched her curiously. He had no idea what she was doing. She seemed to be searching for something but he couldn't figure out what it was. She seemed to becoming more frantic the longer she looked. He frowned watching her. There was something different about her. He couldn't put his finger on it but he knew something had changed while he was around. "What's wrong?" He didn't offer to help. He wasn't certain if she would accept or not. His help generally wasn't welcome. If she did accept he wasn't certain that he could help.

"I need my...my hand sanitizer..." Teddi said. Her face felt sweaty. She ran her hands through her hair. Maybe she should just do it without watching her hands. IT wasn't as safe or sanitary, buts he needed to get this test done and take her insulin. She got her insulin from the mini-fridge, which the school actually provided for her to keep her insulin cool, near the window grabbed, a needle from her bag, and slapped some snacks on her desk then stepped back and just stood there trying to decide what to do. Her mind felt foggy though and she couldn't get her thoughts straight.
Teddi muttered something unintelligible and started searching through her drawers again for her hand sanitizer. She didn't want an infection she ha dto wash her hands.

Griffin climbed down from his bunk. He didn't like how Teddi was acting. He didn't know her well but something was wrong. He didn't know what though. He was uncertain if he could help. Still he wasn't comfortable doing nothing. His leg protested when he put weight on it again but he ignored it. He went over to his roommate and watched her. She seemed shaky. He was afraid she would hurt herself or damage her stuff. He picked her up and set her in the chair at her desk. "You're going to hurt yourself. Let me look." He started looking for her hand sanitizer. It took him a few minutes but he finally found it in the top drawer of her desk. He put it in her hand. "There you go."

Teddi wiped her hands down and shakily pricked her finger to test her blood sugar. She stared at the test strip blankly for a good one minute before comprehending what it said. She was pretty low. She grabbed her insulin and needle and started to shakily try and get some of the insulin into the syringe so she could inject herself.
She finally got the liquid in the syringe and putting the vial down she pushed her plaid shirt down to reveal her shoulder. Teddi shakily pinched the skin and attempted to give herself the insulin.

Griffin frowned as he watched her. Teddi was a Diabetic. He knew very little about the illness. He didn't know if he could help or not. She seemed to be struggling with the injection. "Do you need help?" he asked. He wanted to get out of her space. Being near er mad him nervous. But he wasn't uncomfortable leaving her to care for herself as shaky as sh was.

Teddi didn't seem to respond, she was putting all her mental power into giving herself her insulin. She finally injected herself. After she finished that she put the needle back into hard case and tossed it into the trash. She sorted through the snacks on her desk and opened a bottle of fruit juice and a small snack pack of 'cheese cracker'...i.e. off brand cheese-its.
"Thanks." she said to Griffin. "I-I forgot to take my bag to the gym..." she tried to explain as she slowly started to feel better. Teddi drank her juice slowly, the juice helped the most the crackers were mostly to nibble on something. She gave Griffin an apologetic look, she knew she didn't need to explain herself to him, but she felt like she should.
"I don't know why I forgot it...I normally don't..." she rambled.

"I made you nervous." Griffin shrugged. He moved back to his bed now that Teddi seemed more stable. He felt badly for causing her to forget her supply bag. He knew he was the reason that she had forgotten the bag. His presences had taken her off guard. He regretted that. But he needed to be wary of him. That mean appearing tougher and meaner then he was. He climbed back onto his bed and laid facing the wall.it was going to be hard sharing a room with her.

Teddi guessed she'd upset Griffin, or at least inconvienced him. She finished her snack and then moved her stuff to the other desk. She carefully placed her stuff in an empty drawer.
Griffin could move his own stuff later. She'd put them in the desk but only with his permission and she didn't think he was in the mood forever to ask again.
Teddi went and lay on her bed. She checked her blood sugar levels again, they were rising to their normal numbers which was good. She'd again soon to make sure it was ok.
Technically there were campus tours going on right now...orientation for new students and such. Teddi had her New Student Manuel now in the drawer she had all her stuff in the desk under Griffin's bed. She picked the mouse up as slowly looked it over running her hands over the curves of the carving.

Griffin didn't want to go to the open house or the campus tours. The open house would be too crowded and the tour would be too hard on his leg. So instead he spent the evening studying the campus map that had came with his acceptance letter. He didn't want to get lost tomorrow. He needed to know where his classes were. He had chosen to studies mechanical engineering. He had always been good with his hands. So he thought it would be a good fit for him. Eventually he dozed off into a restless sleep. He woke when his alarm went off the next morning.

Teddi woke up when Griffin's alarm went off. She sat up and rubbed her eyes. She was still tired...great start to college. Teddi climbed out of bed, she was wearing a set of red pin-striped boxer shorts and a white t-shirt. She grabbed her clothes and toiletry kit before heading to the girls bathroom to prepare for the day. Teddi wanted to become a caretaker at a special needs home and was currently working on a degree in Education with a specialty in Special Needs. She knew the course load would be heavy, it was practically a nursing degree because of her specialty.
Teddi got changed into a set of jeans, a light gray v-neck t-shirt and tied a blue plaid shirt around her weight. She pulled on a set of dingy faded converses they were dark gray and had a set of rainbow laces she'd gotten after the laces in them broke. There were some duck-tapes on the shoe here and there to keep it together also. The converses were years old, but she wore them to keep her sneakers for just exercising.
Teddi sighed as she looked at herself in the mirror while putting her hair up. Duck-taped shoes, old un stylish clothes...she looked like the poster child for the 'work-for tuition' student body.
Finishing her hair the girl headed back to her room, she knocked on the door just incase Griffin was changing.

Griffin waited until Teddi was out of the room before getting out of bed. He Never wore anything to bed but a pair od boxers. Sleeping in clothes was a waste of clothing in his opinion so he only did it when the weather was cold. He gather his clothes for the day. A pair of black jeans and a black Death Leopard tshirt. He thought the tshirt was perfect for his imagine. He was just pulling on his leather jacket when his roommate knocked. "It's safe. You can come in." he called out to her as he sat in the chair that was at the desk under his bed so he cool pull on his biker boots. He reviewed all the things he needed to take with him. He didn't want to forget anything.

Teddi came in. She grabbed her backpack. Her backpack was denim. If you opened it up the inside was red plaid. It was in the older style of backpack with a flap that had leather fastenings that looked like they were old leather belts. The straps were also denim. The bag was old and like Teddi's shoes had some duck-tape on it to hold it together on the straps mostly.
She made sure her little lunch pail was in it. It had an ice pack in it so her insulin would remain cool. She put her other supplies in the same pocket. Teddi carefully reached over Griffin and opened the drawer she'd put all her stuff in and pulled out a couple note books, a small plastic pencil case, and the little folder she had the campus map in and her class schedule. She put those in her bag.
Teddi didn't know what she was going to do abut textbooks. She hoped the work program covered them and that they'd be handed out today becuase she couldn't afford them.

Griffin froze when Teddi reached over him. He had never had a girl so close to him. He held his breath while she gathered her things. It was a weird situation he found himself in. He usually pushed people as far away as he could. He didn't like or want anyone close. But he opulent really push his roommate away. He was stuck with her for Atleast a year. He swallowed nervously as she silently reached around him. He had forgotten her things were in his desk. He Had mostly studied the map yesterday so he knew where to go but it was tucked into his back pocket just in case. His first was going to be the bookstore to see about books. He was hoping they were included in his program. He was pretty sure they had to be. If they were it would be a very creative year.

Teddi buttoned up her plaid shirt and going into her closet she grabbed a gray zip up hoodie.
Teddi had two hoodies, one was a pink, black, and light gray flannel with a black hood. The other was just a plain gray zip up hoodie. The flannel one was older than the gray one. She'd gotten the gray one about 2 years ago because needed more than one sweatshirt in the winter. Also Teddi loved hoodies, they felt like a warm hug when you zipped it up and there were so many different style you could use. She wanted more but couldn't afford more.
Teddi looked outside. It looked crisp and cold. She put her hoodie on and zipped it up three quarters of the way before slinging her bag over her shoulder.
"I hope you have a good first day." she told Griffin. She smiled at him,
"See ya tonight." she added as she left the dorm and headed for the stair case. The old dorms had no elevator. They weren't the best dorms, they had a lot of history, but the air conditioning and heat didn't work the greatest in them.
Teddi stepped outside and braced against the sharp wind as she headed for the classroom buildings.

Griffin tried to ignore his body's reaction to Teddi. It shookmnand hardened. Neither reaction was ine he cared for. He ould not be afraid of someone so much stronger then he was. Nor was he willing to be attracted to somrone he had to share a room with. He didn't move until Teddi went over to the closet. Their closet was pathic. Neither of them seemed to have more then a handful of clothing. His side was leather and black. Her side jeans and flannels. They couldn't be more different he thought as he returned to pulling his boots on. He nodded when he wished him a good day. "You too." he told her softly as she left. He grabbed his own pack and headed down the stairs. He had to take the stairs carefully. The last thing he wanted was to fall and embarrass himself. He was relieved he made it outside without any problems. He grimaced at the cold air. It wouldn't help his leg. He slowly made his way to his bike. He had a half an hour to find out about books.

Teddi walked. She didn't have a bike anymore. It'd been destroyed about a two and half years ago when her current foster brother went to town on it with a baseball bat. She hadn't gotten a new one since because it was expensive to get a bike. She walked quickly though, as quickly as her little legs would allow without jogging. She glanced at her schedule. For her first semester she had basic classes in how to educate, laws and rules, and the basic information needed for being a special needs teacher. Her second semester of freshmen year was pretty much all going to be in special needs health, and as the classes progressed she'd get more and more detailed education for becoming what she wanted to be.
She was excited and nervous as she headed into the Education Building where all people getting any time of education degree went from PE degrees to early learning and everything in between and beyond. Unfortunately this was one of the furthest buildings away from Teddi's dorm.

Griffin rodeos motorcycle to the bookstore. He parked in front of the building then went inside. He asked the first person he came across about books. Of course that person was a student and had no idea and had to go ask a manager who had to fall financial aid. Eventually he was told that he could 'borrow' books. He got the ones he needed for his first semester before heading back to his bike. He had only minutes to get to his next class. He piled his books into his saddle bags then headed to class. He barely made it into his small engines class. He was taking a mix of computer and automotive classes. He hadn't decided which would be better to focus on. But with today's technology it was good to have both.

Teddi stood in line at the cafeteria to get her lunch. She'd had some of her basic classes today, nothing to interesting but she was still excited. She what she wanted from the hot food line which was some fries and then made herself a salad, filling a cup up with lemonade she went and sat down at her table.
Teddi was happy, she got to eat whatever she wanted here! No one was controlling her food or taking it away. She could even get dessert if she chose too. Teddi knew she'd have to be careful, she wanted to be healthy even thigh they're was so much she could eat if she wanted too.
