IC Crack Thread: CLOSED SIGNUPS - Sanguine Dirge IC: The Pilgrim's Respite

It was the 1365th year after the death of the Alorran messiah. A man proclaimed to be a messenger from the gods intended to lead humanity to a life beyond the tyranny and corruption of kings and lords. Beyond the oppression of their government and soldiers... Such treason was not tolerated for long and soon enough the messiah was cornered and he sacrificed himself to save his followers. As the messiah walked the holy halls of Skariskall lit ablaze with godly mystical flames, the soldiers of the king were frozen as the man did not burn but instead spoke of forgiving them for their misguided loyalties and sin. In the end the messiah was struck down by Grand King Amaraan, ruler of all of Alor by the authority of the kings and queens of the territories within the region. The king's blade, a symbol of his rightful status as Grand King, plunged itself into the heart of the messiah and the flames reached out, engulfing both men and consuming them until naught was left but the blade, now cursed inflict the same fiery fate upon any who dared to wield the mantle of king of Alor ever again.

The followers of the messiah fled during the outcry and chaos of such a magical event. These men and women were never seen again in the eyes of the public. As far as the governments and kingdoms of the world were considered they fled into exile never to be heard of again. Yet this was far from the case, they had indeed exiled themselves from public view but only to operate as the shadowy hand of the gods to slowly unravel the corruption under the blessing of the messiah's sacrifice. For since that event there has never been another grand king who claimed ownership over the entire region. And with the blades of the Sanguine Dirge nipping at every scrap of corruption and lordship slowly for over a millennium, the world was changing. The people of Timinster have rallied and ousted their governor due to proof of his sinister love of torturing young children for his enjoyment. With the power of an entire city in uproar the governor and all those loyal to him were driven from the city. Whilst they would have fled to the governor's superior: Baron Higram of Dafeld Tower, and asked for assistance they never made it that far. In the forest before the tower the governor and his soldiers were slain and pinned to the trees as a sign that the citizens of Timinster had the support of the now infamous assassins of the Sanguine Dirge. With the previously hidden group coming forth into the public eye their fight was only just beginning


The story will follow the upcoming conflicts across Alor as the Sanguine Dirge continues their bloody deeds in the name of the gods. The finale should be the elimination of all governments and lordships to deliver the region into a collective democracy as per the will of the gods. Plus a secret twist that leads into a final arc



Your character will fill one of these limited roles in the newest assembled group of the Sanguine Dirge:

Coordinator: The group leader responsible for planning out the method in which the group will complete the mission assigned by the grand master. The coordinator is the only one who receives communications with the grand master. Coordinators should be detail oriented, inspiring, and strategic. Yet they also possess the ability to fight yet not at the same level as an assassin or warrior. The coordinator should rarely involve him/herself in combat operations unless necessary and should focus on commanding and guiding the group

Coordinators passively have the ability to send magical messages to the group using animals. The coordinator can also receive feedback given to the animal verbally by group members. This allows the coordinator to change his plan to fit any changes in the situation and any new information gathered by any group member

Scout: The scout is a long range character who observes the target and the surrounding environment, reporting any relevant information to the Coordinator. The scout is an expert at recognizing weaknesses in defenses, locating traps and hidden areas, and for taking out isolated and vulnerable targets at a distance. They can also of course support warriors by injuring or killing targets that flank or overwhelm him/her. Their close range skills are very poor in comparison to a warrior or assassin but they make up for it with stealth, range, and athleticism to escape

Scouts passively have keen eyesight far beyond a normal person's ability. Able to zoom in and make out details at over a mile away. This is part of the reason they make great archers with enough practice with a bow or other distance weapons

Infiltrator: The infiltrator is a master of disarming traps, picking locks, and sabotaging various vital structures. An infiltrator ensures the group can enter, conduct the mission, and leave safely with or without finesse. The infiltrator is a close ranged fighter and uses tools and gadgets to accomplish their objectives. They can be stealthy, bold, magic oriented, or charismatic and can be used for close ranged scouting of an interior. The infiltrator can also serve as a spy if they manage to become involved in the inner works of the target's government. This undercover work is the ultimate source of information and sabotaging essential for the long term goal of eliminating the government

Infiltrators passively have the ability to phase through non-living material when focusing very intensely. This is useful for getting themselves inside neigh impregnable structures to more easily sabotage the defenses, scout, and open the way for the rest of the group

Doctor: Being an outlaw group the Dirge needs these characters to treat injuries without drawing the attention of the local government. The doctor also serves as a discreet trader with local businesses for supplies. Food, water, medicine, tools, poisons, ect. The doctor can also use his/her expertise and equipment to create medicine, poisons, or other useful mixtures such as acids or explosives with the proper ingredients. The doctor is not so much a fighter as a support character who helps the group to survive after a battle or helps them to escape if things go poorly during a fight. However the doctor can indeed kill as they have enough knowledge to strike a lethal blow to anyone not paying him/her much mind

Doctors passively gain the ability to sense ailments in a person's body allowing them to more swiftly diagnose and treat or worsen the effects. They can also see and identify residue substances on surfaces. This allows a doctor to be a detective of sorts and piece together an idea of what has happened in an area recently

Assassin: The assassin is the silent stalker and executor of high value or hard to kill targets. The assassin can stay hidden either stealthily or in plan sight by blending in until they are ready to strike. With expert knowledge in vital points, poisons, and armor weaknesses they strike with calm and deadly precision using the element of surprise to kill their targets before they can fight back. Assassins are also great short or medium range fighters but tend to be poorly armored for sustained combat. As such it is a good idea for an assassin to eliminate only essential targets before fleeing or hiding

Assassins passively gain the ability to blend in with their environment when focusing hard enough. This can allow an assassin to be nearly indistinguishable from the bush they are hiding in or simply unremarkable in the group they are moving in

Warrior: The warrior is a heavily armed and armored close range character who attacks head on to outlast or skillfully defeat a target. Warriors in the dirge are often used as a distraction for more subtle tactics to work without a hitch, though they are also used when subtly is impossible in a situation. Most warriors can fight multiple opponents at once without much trouble due to armor, training, and the blessing of the gods

Warriors passively gain the ability to see 360 around themselves as far as 10 meters. This allows them to better defend themselves from flanking maneuvers or sneaky ranged attacks. It does take a lot of mental focus though

Abilities: (Whatever you can think of that makes your character unique. Be very creative but no Godmodding or incredibly variable powers. Example: if you say you have telekinesis, that means you can move things with your mind. Strengths: Greatly increased Speed/Reflexes/Strength, Retractable claws and fangs, Unaging, Night vision, Fatal Injuries do not kill you, Regeneration (at the cost of consumed blood), 2 extra abilities

Weaknesses: Weak to magic, Water burns, Cannot touch Holy or Blessed locations, Sunlight burns, Can frenzy when starving, must drink half their body weight in blood every 24 hours or becomes weakened


Lycanthropy-

Strengths: Animal senses (night vision, scent tracking, sense danger), Increased strength/reflexes in human form, slow regeneration. Wolf form (super regeneration, greatly increased strength/speed/acrobatics, infectious, large teeth and claws, venomous teeth/claws/blood)

Weaknesses: Silver stops regeneration, hunger increased, loss of control in wolf form


Spectralism-

Strengths: Ghost form (can leave one's body and travel through the realm of death to harm or influence the living without physical danger) Restless (no need to sleep), Fasting (no need to eat or drink), Spirit magic

Weaknesses: Holy magic is fatal. Physical body is vulnerable to possession and is physically defenseless when in Ghost Form. Fatal injuries kill your body leaving you trapped in the death realm until you waste away or twist into madness (in short character death means your character becomes a danger to the group rather than just dying off)

Age: 19
Race: Human
Sub-race: Vampirism

Description: Aloette was inflicted with vampirism at a young age and thus still looks 12 in appearance. Her brown hair stretches just past her shoulders. Her eyes are chocolate brown just like her hair. She is 129cm tall (4 feet tall) with an aristocratic appearance as far as dress and figure goes. When using her vampiric powers or feeding her eyes take on a red hue and her features change a bit. her hair darkening and her skin paling

Role: Infiltrator

Fighting Style: Aloette is small thus she uses this to her advantage to make her opponent underestimate her and strike weaknesses with a slim stiletto dagger. Her backup is a small hickory cudgel she uses with her vampiric strength and speed to break bones or render a foe unconscious in a single strike. Her focus on attacking the joints, groin, and throat makes her great at disabling a foe but not a single strike instant killer most of the time

Abilities: Charm (can use magic to subtly control a person with suggestions/commands), Telekinesis (can control objects with her mind), Illusory Copies (can create controllable copies of herself at a distance of up to 20 meters. 5 copies can be created at most and they cannot interact with living or undead targets)

Strengths: 1) Aloette is a skilled manipulator of people, her charisma lets her talk her way into and out of many situations and further helps her infiltration skills... 2) She is deceptive/sneaky. Her size and age lets her move around nearly unnoticed when she is smart and careful about it

Weaknesses: Her stunted age means her range is short in combat and as an infiltrator she can do little politically. Her undercover work can never be as a government official or anything important

History: Aloette's family is actually distant royalty from the lineage of King Tromor, her father being Geovold the baron of Wawold. They left their royalty behind and sought out the dirge when King Tromor's practices of necromancy affected them directly. When a riot grew out of control in Wawold and the king himself had to get involved Geovold was punished for his inability to resolve the situation. King Tromor cursed his only daughter with vampirism. Seeking a cure and revenge for this monstrous betrayal Geovold took his family and sought out the dirge. They were accepted with open arms and the wealth was a great boon to the cause. Aloette showed great promise in the arts of the Infiltrator and soon enough she learned to control her vampiric urges and use its power to further assist her. This will be Aloette's first official group after 7 years of training

Description: Standing at 177cm(5'8"), Mygdos keeps his body as much of a mystery as his own history. He always wears armor that covers the entire body, with the intention of keeping it's identity hidden as well as keeping prying eyes from discovering who he really is. The color of tha attires vary greatly, however, from a clean white to vibrant colors, it all depends on the situation. Below the mask stands a face scarred by war, as seen in some of the armors he wears, which leave the marks of battle visible due to the fixed cuts. The most noticeable one is the large scar across his face.

When he enters the World of the Dead, his eyes glow yellow, his body becomes more shadowy and his presence becomes darkness incarnate. His "will" in the other world serves as a beacon that can attract the attention of other just as evil and powerful spirits nearby to try and take his body.

Mygdos' many attires

Role: Assassin.


Fighting Style: Mygdos is a combination of warrior and assassin. A good term to define him would be stealthy fighter. Usually wielding either his typical katanas or long swords, he is a monster in the battlefield, be it in whichever form he picks to use. He usually prefers to pick off unaware or pinned down targets in a fight. In an assassination, however, he prefers to kill the target without them being aware of his existence. For longer ranges of assassination, he uses some tools of his older clan like kunais and shurikens. Although they can be thrown, their efficiency falls short the longer the range in which the weapon is used. They are perfect for close to medium range assassination and make for great stealth weapons when it comes to the need of getting someone down without the others noticing. Good use of them can also help in taking out multiple targets in a group fight.


Abilities:
Shadow Clone:
Can create and control clones of himself made out of shadow. These clones are very resistant to physical attacks and can harm heavily. Can create up to 6 every day, storing enough energy to create another clone every 4 hours.

The Clone requires can be remotely controlled by Mygdos, but requires all of his concentration to do so. However, the clone itself may react to enemies that come near and will attack them without mercy due to being manifestations of Mygdos' anger. Additionally, Mygdos may only have two shadows active at a time. He can also switch places with a shadow once for every shadow.

Body Takeover:
Spiritual magic that allows a Spectre to take full control of someone's body for the following 3 hours. During this period, the user's body is immobile and can be harmed. The user suppresses the spirit of the target, forcing them to lend control no matter how much attempt to resist. Can be used twice a day. Requires 24 hours to recharge.

Mygdos can dispose of the body if his anger and rage overpowers the user's will to live, causing a blast of dark magic that can damage nearby enemies.​


Strengths:
Mygdos' spectral form cannot enter holy grounds, cemeteries or any area with a Holy Seal to it... But it can enter anywhere else. Mygdos is extremely skilled in the art of combat, his skills can be said to be unmatched due to the many years he had to train. He has impressive reflexes, a nearly inhuman agility and is actually as strong as a barbarian. He is perfect for political assassinations and can be more than just useful when it comes to taking out multiple targets, cleaning out locations or even attacking convoys. His ability to blend in both urban and rural areas make him a great assassin with a lot of variety. His impressive will and hatred makes possession of the body by any other spirits something very unlikely. His spectral form allows him to very easily enter restricted areas and assassinate targets that would normally be impossible.

Weaknesses:
Mygdos is a spectre. Any form of Holy Magic, Necromancy and areas with high traffic of Spirits like him can cause him to go berserk or lose control of the body he took temporarily or even permanently. As previously stated, his intense hatred and anger can attract nearby spirits of the same evil intent, which can cause some people near him to feel oppressed. When these spirits are too close, Mygdos has to move on. This forces him to not lose any form of time when it comes to a mission, making it so that he cannot stay in a place in Spirit Form for too long. In other words, he has a deadline for every mission he goes on, or else these spirits may destroy his mind and body. To compensate for this, the Dirge has granted him a weakened Holy Seal, which hurts him, but fends off these evil spirits for a brief period of time. Because Mygdos' intention is only to attain vengeance, this might cause him to oversee mission parameters and go straight to what he believes to be just and fair. For this reason, he prefers to kill only his target and affiliated and truly dislikes seeing the death of innocents.

History:
The Yakomishe were a group of monks that lived in an isolated area of the Jade Forest. These Elven Monks dedicated their lives to adoring their gods and living in way and path taught by the ancient elven. Their presence was calm and peaceful. Their personalities, kind and firm. They believed in the equilibrium of the universe, always claiming that there was always a calm before the storms, but that after the storms came the soothing rain. One day, however, there was no soothing rain after the storm...

A group of royal soldiers attacked the village, with the intention of destroying the temples to construct lumber mills for the collection of the rare Jade Wood. The monks, who always prayed to mother nature as their main god, fought back with all that they had, but most of them were peaceful and fell down without even holding a sword in their hands. Mygdos, at the time named Mirthal of the Yakomishe, was a known commander of the last unit of monks to fall down to the swords of the royal swords.

However, decades later, the rage of the monks and their anger uplifted a single spirit to take revenge and thrust their blade into the last man or woman of royal blood... And Mygdos was chosen. The anger and hatred of the monks formed a single spirit called Mygdos and Mygdos was this collection of pure and uncontrollable rage at first. After being reborn in a previously dead body, chosen by him, Mygdos killed everything in his path, but was stopped by the Dirge when he was about to kill a child.

The Dirge saw as much volatility in him as they saw potential, and they decided to give him an offer in joining him, as their objectives coincided. Although still enraged, Mygdos accepted. This all happened two years ago. After these years, Mygdos has learned to control himself and has learned to concentrate his hatred and rage at those who deserve. Although he sometimes may lose control of his own temperament, his knowledge and skills are invaluable to the Dirge and their progress.​

Description: Medium long brown hair, brown eyes, 5ft' 10'' tall, white skin, Usually in full plate armor with small red should cape (No helmet) [His spiritual form is all completely yellow and white and has a slightly yellowish glow around him as well like a beacon of hope. He appears in this form with everything his physical body is wearing.



Role: Warrior


Fighting Style:

Primary: (Long-sword and Heater Shield) Samuel's fighting style focuses primarily on defense and protecting allies in combat. Relying on skill and willpower rather than the pure brute strength that he simply does not posses; aiming for points to weaken opponents much stronger than himself such as the knees and between armor plates. Utilizing everything at his disposal for everything is a weapon and his shield is no exception as he will commonly use it to control the space of a combat encounter as often as it is used to protect his allies and bash in a few noses. Samuel is very reluctant about using his "Ghost Form" in combat for a multitude of reasons and will only use it if completely necessary.

Secondary: (Bare-Hands/Gauntlet Fists) Samuel is perfectly comfortable with falling back on the hands that the gods gave him when he first came into the world. Samuel will more often then not do this when he is trying to be non-lethal or when simply is left with no other option.


Abilities:

Guardian Angel: Once per day / Samuel nominates 1 ally that is adjacent to himself and for the next minute becomes that allies' protector so long as the nominated ally and Samuel are within arms length. What this basically does it make it so any hostile creature that tries to attack the ally that Samuel is protecting then the subsequent attacks will be at a disadvantage (due to Samuel's interventions) while attacks to Samuel will still be as normal. [Note that while this ability is active Samuel does not make any attacks and is focusing all efforts on defense and he cannot use this ability while in "Ghost Form" for he is not physically there to obstruct the attacks.]

Whither: twice per day / While in "Ghost Form" Samuel can pass through a living creature and cause them to take spiritual/ damage that effectively damages their very life force. [Other than these two times per day, any other time Samuel would pass through a living creature like this would normally do nothing except give a slightly chilly feeling.]


Strengths:

A Bright Soul in a Dark World: In both the world of the living and that of the dead Samuel's kind and caring feelings exude a faint feeling of warmth and comfort to those around him.

Selfless: Through thick and thin Samuel has long since learned that if you want to protect others then you need to have the courage to stand in the way of danger. Despite how fragile Samuel knows his existence is in the world of the living he is willing to put what he has left on the line for the sake of others.

Weaknesses:

Holy magic is fatal. Physical body is vulnerable to possession and is physically defenseless when in Ghost Form. Fatal injuries kill your body leaving you trapped in the death realm until you waste away or twist into madness (in short character death means your character becomes a danger to the group rather than just dying off.)

Fear of Loss: Samuel has a such a great fear of baring witness to the loss of more innocent lives that he will immediately react to help complete strangers if they appear to be in danger without a second thought. It goes without saying that this lack of judgment has the ability to hinder the current task at hand and doing so can easily create additional obstacles down the road.


History: Samuel was born and raised in Breyheath by his human father (Sarck) and elvish mother (Leara) along with his younger sister (Daefa.) They were a moderately well off family but they were nowhere near as well off as the one noble man dressed in purple and black cloaks that was visiting on that day. The day that that nobleman decide that he wanted Leara for his own. That night armed men came crashing through their front door. That night Samuel and his father tried to fight back but they were grossly out armed and out numbered. As Samuel lays upon the floor, bleeding out as his eyes become hazy; seeing his father get stabbed through the chest and falling lifelessly to the ground, seeing his little sister run up to one of the men with a small knife only to get cut down so mercilessly. Then seeing his own mother getting dragged out the front door, with that nobleman...with his smirk. Samuel wanting nothing more than the power to protect his family. His feelings were so strong during this moment that even in his bleeding out state his hand would reach out for his mother as she was taken out of site; leaving him to die but he would refuse to shut his eyes and simply go to sleep.

As he would lay their motionless on death's door he would suddenly be able to feel something again; like he was conscious but weightless. It was at this moment that Samuel became a specter. His Ghost Form was primarily yellow and white which could clearly be seen as he chased after the unsuspecting men and noble. Unknowingly Samuel would kill them all by passing through their bodies with his Ghost Form which seemed to cause them to slowly whither and age until death after quite a few passes by an enraged ghost Samuel. However in the chaos Samuel's mother was killed by one of the men who as frantically flailing his sword about trying to strike Samuel. Returning to his body and figuring out that he can still have a physical body and be among the living.

Samuel would decide to go against joining his family in the afterlife for the gods must of had a greater reason to bring he back in the way that they did Samuel would think to himself (when in fact this is actually a curse that was brought onto himself by himself due to.) Shortly after that is when a Dirge agent who had witnessed the entire event unfold came up to Samuel and invited him to join the Sanguine Dirge. During the two years to come was trained in arms, armor and even hand-to-hand combat before being fully enlisted as one of the Sanguine Dirge's newest warriors but he continues to try his best to keep his "Spectrilism" hidden from others as much as possible for fear of being seen as an unholy abomination by pretending to eat meals and pretending to fall asleep to just name a few examples.

@Yzmael the only thing preventing me from accepting your character sheet is the shadow clone ability. Making clones is a fine power but you mention that they cant be dispelled by physical means and yet they can harm heavily

This is unbalanced and can allow your character to take out an entire fortress by himself. I think a good balance would be to either have them just as vulnerable as he is and less skilled, or to have them unable to harm the living

Lol well i guess that makes it easier for Aloette to find someone to like her lol. Well maybe not, considering the open minded sexual preferences here. Still i stand by my opinion that you should create a character you like rather than adjust for gender balance in the group

@Yzmael the only thing preventing me from accepting your character sheet is the shadow clone ability. Making clones is a fine power but you mention that they cant be dispelled by physical means and yet they can harm heavily

This is unbalanced and can allow your character to take out an entire fortress by himself. I think a good balance would be to either have them just as vulnerable as he is and less skilled, or to have them unable to harm the living
Updated the skill. The shadow is resistant to physical damage, but can still be dispelled if enough damage is caused. Again, though, magical attacks can easily dispel it.
