[ 2 ] shy — though friendly and charismatic when he tries, most of the time he's an anxious, socially-awkward mess who would prefer to be alone with a paintbrush and a canvas. part of the reason he got into teaching was to train this out of himself. [ 3 ] insecure — despite the fact he bears the physical structure of an alpha, his sweet and mild-tempered personality has made him stick out like a sore thumb his entire life. at times, he may attempt to force his personality to take on a more ' arrogant ' air and he always makes an ass of himself.

history ; malikai's parents nurtured him to be an artist the moment he was born. they both dabbled in the arts — his mother was an oil painter, his father in graphic design — and had high hopes that their son would be better than the two of them combined. luckily, malikai took to drawing relatively early and from there he continued to grow and learn new skills. there was no doubt in his parents' minds that their only son would follow in their footsteps.

for much of his youth, malikai was told he was undoubtedly an omega, due to the fact he was a bit timid and soft-spoken. their assumptions of him made no sense when he was young and he couldn't quite figure out why anyone cared, simply because he'd never been taught about the way of their world. when he was tested and discovered to be an alpha, he had not a clue what it meant. eventually, his mother — the alpha in their family — sat him down.

after his secondary gender was discovered, malikai was mostly left alone by the other alphas. he hadn't any interest in the omegas they chased after or the fights they started in the cafeteria. instead, he was always in the art room. his senior year of high school he was given the option to do a full year of independent study by the art teacher who had been helping him refine his painting for the past two years. he spent most of his time working on his projects and, though his other grades began to dip a bit, he flourished.

after high school, he decided that while he loved art, he didn't want to do it as his full-time career. at least, not fully. instead, he went to college to get a teaching degree in the study of modern art and, somehow, landed a job at that some university years later. he enjoys it, thoroughly, but finds that he's unable to connect with his students.

personality ; [ 1 ] logical — orion's thoughts are always based on fact and reason and very rarely does he become or act irrational. his upbringing in the compounds and his father's involvement in the medical facility within their compound heavily contributed to that. [ 2 ] shy — though he was constantly surrounded by people growing up, he was never quite able to get over his childish apprehension towards talking to strangers. he feels as if he can never find the right words when making conversation, so he simply doesn't. [ 3 ] ignorant — orion is incredibly book smart, but knows nothing about the world that he lives in — or rather, the one he doesn't. he doesn't see how life could be so great in the compounds and not in the pleeblands where the omega population resides. he never visited the place before the compounds collapsed.

history ; orion won the birth lottery, essentially. born to an alpha and beta within a compound and later presenting as an alpha was, ultimately, what gave him the opportunity at a comfortable life. his life was supplemented with medical textbooks and research papers, both of his parents too busy to truly show him the affection that a child needed to develop emotionally. he was cared for by various people throughout the years while his parents slaved away at their jobs. a few of his caregivers were omegas his father had hired from the pleeblands on the grounds that they were more 'nurturing' than any of the alphas or betas within their compound. regardless of their secondary gender, however, they never lasted long. orion always calculated ways to get rid of them before he'd even had the opportunity to meet them — mostly, to get his parents' attention.

as he aged, he soon lost the will to earn his parents' favor and approval. he began to focus solely on his studies and, in doing so, cut himself off from the world and people within it. while people his age were going into the pleeblands late at night to participate in the culture of brothels. he heard them raving about the omegas in the place while recounting the obscene details of their activities. orion didn't pay much attention, if any at all, to them, nor did he care to hear about a place he never planned to go to. not because of the poor conditions there — he knew nothing of that — but rather he couldn't fathom the idea of him, accidentally, mating with someone while there due to a biological urge built into his system. he hadn't been shown much love in the years of his youth and the thought of being emotionally attached to someone in a way he couldn't control was daunting and unpleasant. therefor, he stayed away from the possible temptation.

he moved out as quickly as he could and began diving deeper into his books, shutting out his parents. he hadn't seen either of them for months when his father showed up in the middle of the night, looking as if he hadn't slept in all the time they hadn't seen one another. his father was normally eloquently spoken and factual, but now he was a nervous wreck who appeared to be on the verge of a mental breakdown. though his father stayed with him for a few hours, orion couldn't make sense of anything he was saying and in the end, his father left just as anxious as when he had arrived. orion truly thought nothing of it.

then, his entire world collapsed and he realized his father had been trying to warn him.

history ; Dakota came from a rather typical family ─ her parents were divorced and she had two younger brothers. They were exchanged during the weekends until they got older and all three of them decided they preferred staying with their dad, though they loved their mother dearly. It was closer to the schools they were attending and it was less of a hassle to get there.

Without any hesitation, Dakota decided to pursue a career as a filmmaker, despite knowing that the odds were ultimately against her. She has an intense passion for cinematography and the work that goes into making and producing a moving. She hasn't considered switching her major once.

Now a junior, she applied to be an RA in order to help out any of the incoming freshmen and to allow them a bit more leniency than she received in her first year.

personality traits ; [ 1 ] adaptable ─ though he makes it seem as if he abhors change, bran truly doesn't mind and finds that he can easily fit himself into any setting or situation. perhaps that's because he doesn't necessarily make himself known.

[ 3 ] hot-headed ─ bran wears all of his emotions plainly on his face and most of the time it's anger others can see seething just on the surface. he's not afraid of conflict and will, at times, start issues just to be angry.

history ; bran was born to an ancient history professor in the city of san diego, california. from the get-go, the importance of academics was pressed upon him and he was enrolled in an early preparation class a year before he was due to start school. the constant pressure on him to score well-above average in his youth forced him away from the social aspects of school and instead he spent most of his time in the library, trying to find ways to study that would better the results of his assignments and exams. during breaks, he lounged on the beach with a textbook or novel sprawled across his lap and his bare toes wiggling in the sand. when other children on the same beach attempted to pull him away from his reading, he'd simply shake his head until they left.

this trend continued all the way until his junior year of high school, though at that point he kept to himself to avoid the judgmental gazes of his peers that thought themselves to be better than him. his clothes, his hair, his lack of friends ─ everything was cherry-picked by the socially elite individuals in his school. though bothered by it, bran did his best to ignore the issues as they grew and avoided talking about school with anyone who dared ask. his father grew worried quickly, as he and bran were far more alike than they were different and he could see the hurt on his son's face. it wasn't until he got a phone call from the school requesting that he pick up bran from school. when he arrived, he learned of his son's suspension and discovered the bruises that littered his face from the fight he had started with a boy that had simply pushed it too far.

after a lengthy discussion with his father about the events going on at school, bran's father suggested that they try someplace new. truthfully, his father's main motive in suggesting that plan was that he'd received a job offer for one of the major universities in minnesota. regardless of that, bran agreed and they moved. he completed his senior year at a high school where he felt far more comfortable. he experienced no problems while there. after graduation, bran decided to take a gap year and got a job at a local retail store to start saving up money. with no problems at all, the very next year he was accepted into the same university his father was teaching at.

minutiae ; [ 1 ] bran loathes the cold. most of his life was spent on the sunny beaches of california, so he has to bundle himself up every time he steps into the winter air.
