SLICE OF LIFE.
◦ [ MxM ] ✦ ; muse a is a junior in college. he's well-known, friendly, and involved in school activities more than anyone else. he's the president of this club and that and excels in all of his courses. his social life isn't too drabby either. when he was forced out of the closet during sophomore year, he feared that he would lose all of that. he was surprised that nobody cared.
muse b is a freshman in college. he's grumpy, aloof, and disinterested in most things. when he walks onto campus the first day, reluctantly, he's immediately greeted by muse a, who is simply the most chipper individual he's ever laid eyes on. he brushes muse a off and simply keeps walking. the beginning of his year started with fights in the dorms, skipping classes and ignoring homework, and sneaking out after curfew. one night, muse b catches muse a sneaking out and with a mischievous grin, muse a asks if muse b wants to tag along.
◦ [ FxF ] ; muse a is horrified as she enters college. she's in an entirely new place, far away from her family and friends. the halls of her dorm are chaotic as people move in. there's luggage littered across the floor, trash tucked against the wall, people shouting and bumping into each other, and none of it makes muse a feel like this is the place they should be. after being informed that she has to get the key to her dorm from the RA, she's even more down in the dumps. she mopes to muse b's room and knocks on the doorway.
muse b loves the college lifestyle. as a junior, she's done pretty well for herself. when a new freshman walks in, looking absolutely shaken, she knows she's got to help the girl out. muse a is soon constantly going to muse b for everything and they grow to be fairly close. however, muse a has never once questioned her sexuality, while muse b is open about hers, and it throws her for a loop when she realizes she might be attracted to her friend.
◦ [ MxM, MxNB, FxF, FxNB, etc. ] ; muse a and muse b have known one another for a long time. they're close friends and everyone around them is convinced they're dating. maybe that's why they get drunk together one night and end up sleeping together. afterward, they have a discussion and decide that while neither of them are interested in a relationship with the other, they both enjoyed their time together and they start fucking with no strings attached.
muse a, however, begins to develop feelings after a short time — they've always been called the more emotional of the duo. one day, they prepare to tell muse b and that's the day muse b informs muse a that they're no longer interested in their arrangement due to the fact that they're now attempting to pursue a relationship.
◦ [ FxF ] ; muse a grew up surrounded by what seemed like a thousand older brothers. it wasn't surprising when she began gravitating towards frat parties instead of ones held by sororities and she blended in more with the crowd at frats, she believed. she's always regarded sorority girls as one thing and one thing only.
one night, muse a is approached by muse b at a fraternity party. unknown to muse a, but muse b is the president of one of the biggest sororities on campus. yet, she doesn't fit the stereotypes at all. muse a finds that muse b is intelligent, witty, and somewhat cynical. the crush muse a develops on muse b is almost instantaneous.
◦ [ MxM, MxNB, FxF, FxNB ] ; after discovering their significant other's infidelity and the subsequent break-up, muse a is left with nothing. they had poured their heart and souls into their relationship for several years, only to be forced to return home. they move back in with their parents and get a job at the local bar, putting their bartending license to good use. while there, they end up serving muse b, a former fling from high school.
muse b slept around a lot in high school and continued to after graduation. they've never had to patience for a relationship and has never wanted to put in the effort it takes. they despise confrontation. the only person they've ever felt differently towards is muse a. when muse b spots muse a serving drinks at the bar, their heart nearly falls into their throat.
muse b hears of muse a's relationship and its poor end and the impacts it had left on them. muse b, despite their past tendencies, can't help but want to help them work through their grief.
◦ [ MxM, MxNB, FxF, FxNB, etc. ] ✦ ; muse a and muse b were both born into wealthy, influential families. their families are the modern equivalent of royalty and have been friends for generations. their lives have been intermingled for as long as they can remember and, frankly, they loathe one another.
muse a thinks muse b is an uptight prude, while muse b thinks muse a is an arrogant airhead. they've always been at odds with one another and are always quarreling at get-togethers — and yet their families get it in their heads that they're in love. over the winter, their families both make a plan that will get the two adults together after several years.
when muse b lands in the airport of their hometown and finally finds their family, they're not happy to see that muse a is among them, also having just arrived. during the time they spend there, their families continuously attempt to push them together and making plans that purposefully make them spend time together.
◦ [ MxM, MxNB ] ; muse a has always been the 'golden boy.' his grades were always above average, he had a thriving social life, and he happened to be the star of the football team in high school. nothing changes when he goes to college. he's always got a girlfriend but never seems interested in them.
muse b is at the same university, there to study in their art program. their energy is contagious, they're confident in themselves, and they're beyond talented when it comes to putting a paintbrush to canvas. they weren't as popular in high school — especially not after they came out.
muse a and muse b both end up attending the same fraternity party. muse a drinks far too much and does his best to avoid his current girlfriend. somehow, someway their attention is drawn to one another and, out of the blue, muse a kisses muse b. except muse a is straight or always thought himself to be.
◦ [ MxM, MxNB, FxF, FxNB, etc. ] ✦ ; muse a is your average college student. they get to their classes on time, work in a coffee shop part-time, and party a little extra once the week is over. their life, however, is turned completely upside down when they witness something they definitely shouldn't have. a murder.
they're taking out the trash, the last person left in the shop after closing, when they hear two shots fire off and they look up to see two men. one with the gun raised and the other flat on his back with blood blooming from his chest. muse a can't stop the noise that leaves them. the still living man sees them and though muse a tries to escape, they can't.
when he next wakes up, he's sitting in the office of muse b. muse b is the head of the notorious mafia/gang that runs the city of [blank]. their capo had simply been taking care of a mole when a civilian had spotted him and suddenly, this civilian was placed before them and they were supposed to figure out what to do with them.
eventually, muse a swears themselves to secrecy and promises they won't tell a soul, already fearing that they might not make it out of the situation alive. surprisingly, muse b allows this -- on the condition that they're allowed to pop in whenever they please. hesitant, but eager to go home, muse a also agrees. [ bonus points for omegaverse! ]

FANTASY.
◦ [ MxM, MxNB, FxF, FxNB, etc. ] ; muse a and muse b have spent every lifetime together. falling in love, growing old, over and over again with one another. when they die, they're given the option to retain the memories of their past lives or forget. both have always chosen the former. they promised they always would.
it's 2019 when muse a sees muse b again. they're working as an intern in an office building, fetching coffee and treats as they were ordered, and nervous for the visit of the ceo. when muse b walks into the room, muse a is instantly struck with the realization of who they are and simply cannot help themselves when they approach muse b in a high unprofessional manner.
the only problem is that, this time, muse b chose to forget.
◦ [ MxM, MxNB ] ; muse a is the son of apollo. as a child, it was discovered he had a certain foresight that would aid the safe place in which people like him could reside. an oracle, they called him, though for many years he went without any other visions.
muse b has just recently reached their safe haven. they haven't yet discovered the deity that patented them. they hadn't even known their mortal parent before they arrived. while entering, they make eye contact with muse a, who was drawn to the location for a reason he was unable to explain. when their eyes lock, muse a is sent into a vision and is soon spewing a prophecy with his eyes still trained on muse b. a quest, he mentions, but muse b can't quite make out the details.
later, when muse a comes to, he insists that he must also go on this quest, for it will fail should he stay. the leaders of their safe haven aren't particularly willing to let their oracle go.
◦ [ MxM ] ; muse a is half-angel — a nephilim. their heritage, in part, is what he blames for all of the misfortunes that have befallen him in recent years. he's gloomy, cynical, and self-destructive. when he's found by a strange group of people and they convince him to go with them, he's worried but, anything was better than his current situation.
when muse a arrives at this secret location, he's shocked to find a place full of people just like him. kids and elders of different species mingle in the courtyard. people his age flit through with smiles on their faces, as if their pointed ears or sharpened canines didn't exist.
muse b is half-demon. generally, his kind aren't allowed within this sanctuary. they have a long, terrible history of causing chaos and creating ruin with other species. however, muse b was found as an infant and brought to this place. nobody would have ever suspected that despite growing up here, muse b planned to destroy it after being bent to the will of his powerful father.
muse a meets muse b and, immediately, finds himself uncomfortable around the other without being able to explain why. though, after introductions are made muse a forgets the initial feelings that had hit him and, instead, finds himself interested in the other. an interest that simply isn't natural between the two rival species.
though muse b attempts to escape muse a's narrow focus, he soon finds that he simply doesn't want to. however, he's learned that it isn't wise to disobey his father.
