Prologue; A Long Ride

So. Remnant. We've all heard of it, right? Composed of Vacuo, Atlas, Mistral, Vale, it's primary power source being that of dust, which pretty much everything nowadays can be run on. Man and Faunus alike filling the place to the brim, creating great things and working together to keep peace.

Sadly, things can't always go as planned.

Humans aren't the only inhabitants of the kingdoms, and even had they been, not all humans are good. Creatures of Grimm, the result of all things dark and creatures that feed off of negativity, share the lands with the people. By nature, not exactly the 'maker of great things' type. And humans, well... Humans get greedy. Want more than we're born with the right to have. But I suppose I'm straying from the point here.

Y'see, Vacuo, Vale, Mistral, Atlas- they aren't the only kingdoms around. Across the world of Remnant, many more kingdoms lie in wait, hidden a little better from prying eyes, but just as civilized and sharing the same goals as the kingdoms we know. Peace, tranquility, people getting along and working towards a better goal.

You might be wondering why I'm tellin' ya all of this. Well, let's just say that the heroes of this story ain't really regulars to Beacon, and they ain't about to be, after it's fall. So I figure I may as well enlighten you on where we're beginning... And where it'll hopefully end.

Let's see, first off... Ah, that's right. Terra, home to Annwn. Nice place, if ya ask me.. Aside from the discriminatory people. Warm little kingdom with seemingly kind folk, lots of vegetation, and even a few springs if ya look in the right place. Cept, this kingdom ain't really quite as quaint as it seems. Discrimination against Faunus is especially strong here, and the place is currently in a bit of a spat with, well...

Nysa. A little on the colder side, with a few mountains scattered around here and there. If you're smart, you'll remember to pack your coat and gloves if you ever find yourself headed there. This is the place you're most likely to find Faunus, and a hell of a lot of 'em, at that. Not all of 'em exactly wanna be there, but, well, if it's cold or be patronized by others, I don't necessarily blame 'em. You can take a guess why there's a war between the poor fellas and the diehards in Terra. Their academy's Aztlan.

Anyways, movin' on, next up we've got... Ah. Ashea. Probably the smallest of these guys, but definitely the nicest. Pretty tame place, with a much more pacifistic view in general than their brother and sister kingdoms. But they know how to fight when it matters, and they do have a nice academy to prove it. Eden, they call it.

Finally, Drayce, home of Zion academy. Not really the ideal place, but that's just my opinion. Lot's a crooks like to hang around here, and it's a bit dark and dreary for my taste. But hey, they get by, and the slightly high crime rate just seems to draw 'em closer. Which makes for good teamwork from the guys y'see there.

Anyways, now that ya know about the kingdoms, I guess it's your time to shine, kids. This's where the story begins...

-----

It was a day like any other, for most, in the lesser-known continents of Remnant, tucked away in shadows. While their communication system wasn't exactly ideal, not able to reach far enough to receive signals from the other, more popular, kingdoms. Something that might lead one to assume that these kingdoms were even more in the dark than they were. But, well, let's just say that Drayce, Terra, Nysa and Ashea were more in the know than was ever let on. How, you might ask?

Well. That was perhaps a story for another day.

Now? Well, let's just say today was not a normal day for a small portion of the overall population of these kingdoms- these people mostly being of a younger age. For them, today marked the beginning of a new era- and they weren't necessarily the only ones, as a certain headmaster stood leaning against a window, staring out of it with hands casually rested on the sill. A deep breath entered through his nose, exhaled only when a few simple words parted his lips. "Do you require something, Miss Platnum?"

Evidently not entirely expecting that the man was aware of her presence, the blind woman merely gave a small tilt of her head in the direction she believed him to be in what appeared to be a small nod of greeting. "...Sir," she greeted, stoically. "We've received word from Captain Ignatius and Lieutenant Vaiva. Their eta is two days from now. All students signed as arriving by aerial escort are accounted for," she explained, pale blue eyes staring in her boss's direction. In return, the man smiled, slowly removing his hands from the windowsill and straightening up, shoving his hands casually into his pockets.

"Good. Let them come."

"Sir?"

Slowly, the man turned, offering the blind woman a smile. "...You're dismissed, Miss Platnum. Thank you for the update."

-----

So, this was it, then. Today was the day that boys and girls, faunus and humans, sixteen and eighteen-year-olds alike departed for their first day at the famous Eden Academy from all across the continents. Many chose to become a huntsman or huntress to better the world, others? To escape an undesirable fate or place. Hell, some do it for less than savory reasons, aiming to strengthen themselves only to turn their backs on the light that brought them all together in the first place.

Regardless, this was where you all were, now- aboard an impressively large aircraft, accompanied by many of your fellow first-year students on their way to the same academy. Perhaps some of the faces were recognizable, perhaps not, but regardless, it was a given that these were all people you would come to be familiar with over the next four years at the academy. Whether you liked it or not.

That said, luckily, the ship at least allowed for plenty of space, even luxurious enough that it was split into different segments. The main compartment was a sort of lounge-like area, but there were additional spaces, such as a few cabins that would have to be shared come nightfall, considering that the journey would last a couple of days. Then there was a small area with entertainment such as a few games and books. Aside from that, there was the captain's pit, but that was obviously off limits.

In any case, luckily, the space meant that if people wanted to stick to themselves rather than socialize, they'd probably have some room to do so, assuming no one interrupted. Which was exactly what one Midna Eclipse set to, settled in a corner by a window with a book in hand, reading away and hardly paying the world around her any mind.. Well, aside from an oddly young looking boy, who she occasionally glanced on as though to make sure he was still there and okay.

Aside from the two, there were plenty of people aboard the ship to interact with. People of all shapes and sizes, skin colors, and ages were about. Though something of note was that while it had seemed upon boarding that there had been an awfully large amount of militants aboard, they all seemed to have vanished, leaving the students to interact among themselves. It was likely that the officers were merely in the pilot's cabin, but that wasn't the point. What did they possibly need all of that security for?

Well, whatever. Now was the time to make friends with your fellow peers, not worry about little details like that.

"Audrey!"

The blonde girl in question resisted the (strong) urge to facepalm, letting out a restrained sigh. Her obvious attempts at being alone had not sufficed, that much was clear. Then again, she was not one to take a clear hint like that. Turning from one of the secluded corners of the lounge room, she faced the blue haired girl and struggled not to let her irritation show.

"What."

So much for that.

But as expected, Teanna didn't even seem the least bit fazed by it. Not if the way she was latched unto her arm was any indication. "Did you see all those military dudes when we got on? They all vanished!"

"Yes, Teanna, I do have eyes. Thank you for noticing. Of course I saw them. Probably doing whatever it is soldiers do, blindly following orders or whatever. Being wary after Beacon."

"I thought I told you to call me Tee. I hate the way my full name sounds."

"No."

"But--"

"No. It is ridiculous. I drink tea. It is a warm and soothing drink."

"That's why it is perfect!"

"...Hmph." She snorted and turned away. "C'mon. Let's see if we can't find out what the esteemed military men are up to."

Following rules was never really her strongest suit.

David took a deep breath as he walked around the plane. There wasn't much he could do and he wasn't the biggest fan of crowds to be quite honest. He just wanted to talk to anyone that he could and try to make a good first impression. He was going to have to work with this person for his time at the academy. He decided to approach the girl reading her book.

" Hi. I'm D-david," he said to her.

It wasn't easy getting used to being blind, but Eshell had quickly found out that his habit of staring off into the distance made people rather uncomfortable. And so, fully aware that he was surrounded by people, he chose to stare out of the window to prevent himself from accidentally staring at some random. Of course, it might be a wall. He wasn't quite sure. He knew he was near the window at least, a group nearby had been talking about the view before moving on, but whether he had felt the wall or glass, he didn't know. He turned to look about the carrier, only to remember his new found disability and then turned back to the wall/window. Or did he? He had an inkling that perhaps he had turned too far and was now probably staring at someone. Which he had, and he was. Just staring at some random in the room without actually knowing he was.

"I just don't get it MAI, one moment they were here... And now there no where to be found." Erin Said talking into the bracer on is right arm. He too noticed that the soldiers or guards, which ever they were, have not been seen since he got onto the ship. But he wan't talking into his arm because he was crazy, but from a distant and ignorant eye it would seem like it. "Where do you think they could be? More importantly why were they here to begin with?" He asked into his bracer, swaying his tail and waiting for the AI inside of it to respond

"Likely to keep an eye on all the soon to be students, though I am not quite sure where they disappeared to." Said MAI, who was currently uploaded into Erin's bracer. Erin scratched his head, He didn't know what was more puzzling. The fact that there was this much security or that they all were out of sight. "Something tells me that's not it, the amount of guards we saw earlier seems a bit overkill just to babysit a ship full of people" He paused for a moment and looked around to see if there were any of said guards in the area... there were not any. He then looked back into his wrist as MAI spoke to him again. "What is it that you are planning Erin, I hope you aren't going to pull another one of your childish pranks... Now would be a good time to make a good impression and make some new friends, not enemies."

"Hmmm, tempting MAI, very tempting. Pulling a good prank now when security is scarce is such a good opportunity it's practically gift wrapped. But I want to know whats going on... Let's see if we can't find them." Erin then pushed off from the wall he was leaning against and began to explore, with MAI needless to say by his side... Or in his case attached to his side.

Leaning against a handrail near the aircraft's windows, a young woman stared off towards the horizon, her mind deep in thought. Although virtually unknown in this part of Remnant, the raven haired girl was Felix Velos, leader of the infamous duo known as "The Rooks." It had been quite a trip; traveling from Drayce to the next city with an airship that would eventually land her at the gates of Eden Academy. She hadn't come on all this way on her own, however. Despite success and popularity at Zion Academy, her elder brother, Duke, had left it all to stay with her. It was a comforting thought to know he had her back, but Felix couldn't help but feel that she had caused her brother one more sacrifice.

Turning away from the window, Felix walked down the nearest steps towards a young man sprawled out in a crimson colored armchair. Duke. Despite his precision and no-nonsense attitude in combat, Duke wasn't much of a serious kid during his everyday life. He preferred to lounge around and let the chips fall where they would. Life was too short to take everything seriously, after all. As Felix approached him, Duke sat up, seating himself used appropriately in his seat.

"Have you noticed?" he asked, his question purposely vague in description.

"I have," Felix responded. Their conversation referred to the sudden lack of guards. There had been an excess of armed men and women only moments ago, and now they were nowhere to be seen. While Felix didn't care for security all that much, it was something to take note of, and she'd be lying if she said it didn't eat at her just a little. "I'm not sure what's going on, but keep your eyes on the lookout for anything suspicious," she advised, taking a seat on the couch next to Duke. "Run a gambit if you have to."

"Sure," Duke smirked slightly, standing from his seat. Run a gambit. One of the many code words used by the Rooks. This one simply meant to get involved; meet people. It was one of the most simple tactics used to gather information and develop a rapport among the people. Since Duke was the more talkative of the two, it was only natural that he was the one who most often "ran the gambit." Brushing out the wrinkles in his pants, Duke turned and headed towards a pair of girls, one with blue hair, the other blonde. He had heard bits of their banter earlier while he had been lounging, but hadn't paid all too much attention. It was rude to eavesdrop, after all. Needless to say, he felt that now was a good time to say something. With a simple nod, he left Felix to her own devices and approached the two girls, a friendly, genuine smile on his face.
"Excuse me ladies. I couldn't help but notice you two while I was hanging out over there." Duke pointed towards the center of the ship where he had been only moments ago. "You are both quite beautiful. I'm Duke, by the way." The young man brushed his long dark hair out of his eyes. "Enjoying the trip?"

For a long few moments, there was no response from the blonde quietly sifting through her novel, dark blue eyes still glued to the pages... Until she realized the boy was standing over her, and evidently had been speaking to her, not someone else. Blinking owlishly, she slowly looked up to regard the male, giving him a once over before her lips finally parted in a simple phrase. "...Hello, David," she greeted in return, voice soft and quiet and, if one were to listen close enough, holding a hint of an English accent that likely would be clearer if she would speak up. With that greeting uttered, she let her eyes return to the pages. Casually, she resumed reading, not seeming to have a strong desire for conversation.

But the blonde boy she occasionally kept glancing at piped up from her side, offering a rather dorky smile- the long blonde hair of his falling in his face not exactly helping. In addition, he looked as though he couldn't be older than fourteen... How was he here with all of these soon-to-be huntsman and huntresses? "Nice to meet you, David," he spoke, louder than the female, but still not especially so. Regardless, his accent matched hers... Perhaps they were siblings? "I'm Cyriac," he introduced with a small, sheepish offer of his hand for a shake.

"I'm just sayin', Cinthy, it's a bit weird that there's so many of them! That's all," a female voice rang out nearby, evidently engaged in conversation with someone. A sigh could be heard in response, followed by a verbal answer as well. "Yeah, well, you know what Sterling said. If that stuff about Beacon falling is true, they probably just want to make sure that everyone's safe," her evidently male companion reasoned with a shrug.

"Aww, c'mon, that's boring. Where's your sense of adventure, Cinthy?--"

"Please don't call me that--"

"--I mean, you've gotta have more imagination than that. What if there's been another White Fang attack, or more of those anti-faunus raids..." Suddenly, the female trailed off, the conversation coming to a halt. The girl who had been speaking instead glanced at Eshell, curiously, realizing he'd been staring at her and her friend. "Oh, hi," she greeted, sheepishly. "Do you, uh, need something?" she asked out of the blue, raising a brow as she glanced over the blind boy.

The phenomenon was certainly odd, yes, and there weren't exactly answers just sitting around out in the open, sadly. Though there were perhaps one or two staff members around to talk to, it was most likely the handful of others were in the closed off in the cockpit. Out of the two that were around, there were two males, one with bright green hair and the other with a darker hue. Well, looked like they could either be spoken to to find out more, or one could attempt to get into the cockpit. But that would likely lead to being caught and possibly scolded.

Shizune Shimmer could be an incredibly observant girl. She could follow grimm tracks, note the signs of an ambush, or follow the subtle hand motions that accompanied an enemy's blade as they prepared for a strike. Half the role of a hunter was to pay attention and notice the things those who weren't trained did not, and then act on them in the defense of others. That, however, was in the field. Where there usually weren't any soft couches and decent sized televisions with last season's big game releases available.

All those things were present on the ship, and Shizune had barely noticed that there was anyone else in the entertainment area, let alone that there were no guards. She was flopped upside down on the couch, the ends of her twintails hanging off the couches seats as she stared at the screen in intense concentration as her hands nimbly worked the controller she held to assert her domination upon the fields of virtual battle

"...Pfft." She just scoffed and walked away immediately, already put off by his sucking up and that silly little...hair wave he just did.

"..." She glanced from Audrey to the new guy in rapid succession before sighing, "I'm...Teanna." No nicknames for someone she barely knew. "That's Audrey. We--" Audrey made some disgruntled noise. "...I am pleased to meet you!" Teanna hastily corrected. "So...why do you want to be a huntsman? I'm here because I want to change the world. Too much is wrong."

"Teanna! We're leaving."

"But--"

"Now."

"Ummmm...guess we'll talk later?" She winced, adding a sorry before taking off after Audrey who was already departing. "What was that all about?"

"I'm done with types like him, false buttering up and only interested in one thing. It is annoying."

"But we barely just met the guy."

"Trust me, I'm a people person, I know."

"If you say so." She shrugged, walking along, After a few moments, it sunk in. "Oh no way."

"What?"

Her hands gravitated over her mouth, stifling a laugh. "You're...you're jealous!"

"........Am not!"

"Totally jealous!"

"Teanna, we aren't here to flirt."

"Tee."

"If you're thinking of walking up to Mr Green Hair and using the fake tripping to land in his arms method of introduction, then yes--"

"God, you're hopeless." Audrey pressed on, firmly grabbing Tee and outright dragging her along. "I meant being bold enough to check out the cockpit."

Erin would at one point come across two men with green hair, one with a darker hue than the other. "Maybe they know something, they look old enough to be staff." He would then look to is arm to hear MAI's insight. . . She did not respond. So he spoke to her once more, this time looking at the device. "Remnant to MAI, do you copy? I think I found some people who may be able to help."

"I doubt they would disclose that information even if they did know. Besides I don't know how they'd react to someone like you... Reptilian Faunus aren't exactly common in most of the world" MAI replied with a bit of concern, and in a way she was correct. Outside from his continent Erin has never seen any Faunus with reptilian features. For all they knew Erin could be the only one on the ship or even the campus. "Aren't you the one who said I should be making friends at this time?"

"All I am saying is to be careful, staff or not something still feels off." "If they can at least tell us where the guards disappeared to that would be enough for me."

"And if they don't know?"

"Then we sneak into the cockpit and search there." he said with a grin

"I was afraid you were going to say that, you always were a trouble maker."

"Oh come on, I bet it will be a lot of fun if it comes to that."

"You know what, since you clearly have your heart set on it why waste any time?"

"I Like your style MAI... now all we need to is figure out how we are going to do that"

Franky Russo has currently been laying about on one of the dark leather couches in the ship's main lounge area though he wasn't napping. He was watching and listening to the other people in the main area, sizing them up like he did everyone. Call it a useful paranoid habit. He noticed the high amount of security but just jokingly figured it was because he was there.

A little more time passed and still no in particular was catching his attention as he moved his vague focus between the groups of people until he took notice of a young woman with long black hair walking away from one of the windows. The first thing he noticed was that she was definitely from Drayce. If you grew up there you can tell who else has with a good enough glance. The second thing however was the confirming bit as he recognized her face while watching a tournament on a bootlegged TV along with the specific tattoo on her collarbone which was a dead giveaway. So that's Felix Velos in the flesh huh... "The Rooks" being of course infamous in Drayce. Then the other half of the duo's probably here too.

Not long after thinking this sure enough the elder brother of the duo appears. Franky's eyes slowly followed Duke and watched what he did. Franky couldn't hold back his smirk and quick chuckle as he watched the guy seemingly just get stiffed by the two girls.

In a corner of the main lounge area sat Alcander. He wasn't exactly keen on being social at the moment as he simply kept his mask on and his hood up. Keeping his head tilted down he saw no particular reason to be social. Sure people here wanted to be hunters and huntresses like he did...and he's probably be working with some of them... Come to think of it being social wasn't a bad idea. However all his time spent wandering had pretty much ruined any social skills he had so he simply remained quiet for now.

His mind playing through the past two years of his life on repeat. He would seem to space out while staring down at his gauntlets. Could he really redeem himself for his actions all those years ago...? He wasn't sure but he knew he had to at least try and becoming a hunter simply seemed like the best option.

She punched Teanna.

@QuakeUPSB @sorry I missed this!!!

"...Ew."

"I dunno, I think the one with the bright green hair's kinda cute--"

"Teanna, we aren't here to flirt."

"Tee."

"Teanna."

"Tee."

"Teanna."

"Tee." She stated with finality, literally and figuratively putting her foot down. Audrey just rolled her eyes before acquiescing. "Fine, Tee. You thinking what I'm thinking?"

"Oh."

@Hospes

@Hospes , Maybe @C.T. since they are near by

While Erin, Teanna and Audrey searched for any signs of staff and considered attempting to figure out a way to the cockpit, one of the aforementioned males- the darker haired and garbed one -took notice of the trio of students. He was finally dressed in standard military attire, but defying the outfit's clean-cut nature, his hair was sloppy. Sighing through his nose and straightening up, he glanced them over.

"Students," he greeted, curtly. "Do you require something? If you were looking for the entertainment area, refreshments provided, I'm afraid you're turned around."

Well, hopefully they hadn't been hoping to take the sneaky route.

Hazel Sterling

A cloaked figure could be found wandering the ship rather aimlessly... It was hard to say if anyone even noticed they were there, but perhaps that's how Hazel Sterling wanted it to be.

Socializing? Paaah! Who needed that, right?

Well, actually, it was a little boring come to think of it; at this point in time she would usually have occupied herself with sleeping, or hunting Grimm, but... Considering she was in a ship, heading towards a Hunter's Academy, the whole Grimm thing just couldn't happen, not unless some freak incident involving a Nevermore, or, even crazier... A dragon, occurred.

So, she settled with the next best thing; brooding.

Though, after a good while of doing nothing but that, she found herself bored again... And, since she couldn't exactly scope out any prey to hunt or anything, she figured she'd just stirr up some trouble instead.

As she wandered throughout the ship, she unfortunately missed the shennanigans going on near the cockpit, and instead she ended up wandering her way to the lounge, pure coincidence, or maybe fate? Who knows, who cares.

She did notice that there was someone else in the room actually, someone who looked to be brooding too, actually... Granted it was a bit tough to tell if that was actually the case, since his face was obscured by a mask.

A fellow brooder? Well, admittedly she didn't expect her first encounter with someone else on the ship to turn out quite like this, but oh what the hell... She was bored out of her mind, so anything was a start for her right about now.

Approaching this... Masked stranger slowly, she cleared her throat rather loudly, figuring she'd initiate the conversation.

"Oi! You awake?" She asked suddenly.

So much for subleties, but hey... If she was lucky, she'd at least be able to make her time here pass a little faster, being occupied with something other than brooding, that is.

Oh.... Someone was speaking to him...?

Alcander glanced up at Hazel as she had asked if he was awake. Well that was certainly an odd question but given how he was sitting perhaps it wasn't so odd. A moment of silence as his mind raced to come up with a reply soon enough figuring he'd simply have to bite the bullet.

"Do I look asleep to you...?"

'DAMMIT'

Why did he have to say it like that..? Man he really needed to up his social game.

"Er... My apologies... I did not mean to be so rude just now... I'm uh.... Alcander by the way...."

Way to make a first impression Alcander.... Regardless he kept his hood up hiding his long brown hair as he simply foldedhis arms with his gauntlets still fully exposed...

@Demmy
Eshell tilted his head at the conversation, listening in. He had noticed many students talking about disappearing guards, but he had not given it a thought. Instead he simply payed no mind to it. But their conversation intrigued him and suddenly he found himself thinking about the White Fang, wondering what exactly they were about. Deep in his thoughts he hadn't notice the conversation stop abruptly until the lady began speaking to him. Eshell shuffled on his feet nervously and swallowed the lump in his throat. "Oh, uh. Sorry, I don't. You see, I'm still getting used to being blind. I didn't mean to stare."

"Hang on, your one of the military guys. I guess you guys are here after all... but where are the rest of you. last time I checked they were everywhere." said Erin, now that he found something close enough to a guard he felt like he could get some answers. But would he? The man seemed nice enough, and as one of the soldiers he had to have been affiliated in some way... right? "It just seems a bit suspicious is all. I mean why have a large portion of guards when you aren't going to have any over them look over the guests?"

MAI did not speak, she felt it best to keep her self hidden from strangers until Erin introduced them to her first. After all they had no idea who these people were... yet.

"Get the cool, get the cool shoeshine..." Without really realizing it, Kwame sang along to his music as he shuffled the deck of cards for the fifteenth time. He had to admit, he was pretty excited to be going to Eden, and get his future started. Every so often he would glance at his prospective classmates, trying to pick out others like him. He could spot a Faunus or two here or there, but not too many. Ah, well. He would be plenty...well, not now anyway. He adjusted the brim of his hat, making sure his four extra eyes were hidden still. His hat was specially made so that the eyes never touched fabric-it would make his disguise rather painful, no?

Well, Human or Faunus, he needed to start making it good with his classmates. Kwame glanced around, taking out his earbuds as the song ended. "Anyone up for Blackjack?" He offered. "Or poker, or go fish, war...heck, I can even do some magic tricks!"

Admittedly, the pair froze up when addressed by the man. They didn't even turn to face him fully, just glancing over their shoulders. But when the other student spoke up, Audrey saw opportunity. Leaning over to Tee, she furiously whispered: "Follow my lead. We'll find another way." Subsequently the two of them began to edge away from the conversation, trying to be as subtle as humanly possible in their escape.

"IDIOT! DO YOU KNOW HOW LONG THIS IS GOING TO TAKE TO CLEAN?!"

"O-Oh... I... I'm sorry! I didn't mean to!"

Almost like a sudden explosion of voices, a vocal commotion was occurring between two girls. Well, the one that was practically angry in this case happened to be no one other than Soneri Aundarya. Her family was pretty well known for a lot of things, quite like celebrities. It would explain her rather spoiled behavior, not to mention that her family was involved in all sorts of scandals and controversies. On the other hand, the girl apologizing was Liliya Blednyy. Poor girl looked like she couldn't hurt a fly, and was pretty much quivering from Soneri's anger.

"Sorry? You think saying that is going to get this stupid shoe mark off of this? These boots were custom made for me, one of a kind! And you stepped on one of them!"

"U-Um... I'm really really sorry... I... I can clean it for you!"

This didn't sound like it was going to end well.
