Chuquita made her way through the school parking lot, her head moving along with the music coming from the neon green headphones around her neck. Her first day of school went fairly well. Though her classes were not that interesting, she still had a bit of fun on her art and music classes. She was glad that she had most of her classes with some of the friends, she made last year, so she didn't need to worry about making new friends or feeling lonely in her new classes.
She remembered how difficult it was the year before; she had been the new girl in school and in town. Some of the kids in the school already knew Spanish very well and that helped her a lot, to understand her classes; but still, many wouldn't talk to her because she seem unapproachable due to the fact that she didn't talk much. However, they came to understand that she didn't talk because she didn't want to, but because she couldn't speak proper English. Coming from another country was difficult but she quickly adapted and once she learned that language everything else was a 'piece of cake'.
As she walked along the few cars that were still parked, -probably from the kids that got detention on the first day, which was not surprising considering how troublesome some of them were- she remembered that she still hadn't called her mother to come and pick her up. Quickly taking out her phone from the pocket of her black and green hoodie, she started to mark her mother's number. As she was about to hit the call button, she heard what sounded like a male voice singing. 'Am I hearing things...?' Forgetting about calling her mom, Chiquita -or Shorty like many of her friends call her since Chiguita means Short in Spanish- followed the voice and as she came around one of the parked car, she stumble a guy with teal colored hair covered by a grey beanie, who was playing guitar and yes, he was the one singing. 'He has a nice voice...'
Now that she was closer, she recognized the song he was singing and couldn't help herself and started singing along. "Keep careful watch of my brothers' souls...And should the sky be filled with fire and smoke...Keep watching over Durin's son..." Losing herself to the song and the tune of his guitar, she didn't notice that she was getting louder and that the guy could probably hear her voice. Though, it's not like she would care, since she sang everyday through the school hallways, her headphones always blasting music into her ears.
