Ritual of Reconciliation

Alright, I am going to post the descriptions here so that everyone can see and use them if they want.

In order for Mystisa and Spia to get to the beach, they have to go all the way down to the fifth tier (The Unending Bazaar), find the entrance to the Catacomb Gardens, go though those and then find the beach. So I am going to describe the Bazaar, the Gardens and the Beach, just to make sure you have lots of details to work with, Neoh, although you don't have to use them all.

The Unending Bazaar
Despite the grid laying out of the main streets, the Bazaar is a maze of booths, shops doubled up above and beside the pathways. Empty warehouses lead to secret sections of the Bazaar, where the discriminating individual can find items not normally available in civilized ports. Large sections are given over to the uncouth and unkind, where it is possible to buy not items but people, or to hire the residents toward unsavory, and yes, criminal ends. Other sections are empty of all life, ghost towns in a buzzing, busy trade center, where the superstitious and wise fear to walk.

The main streets (show in gold on the maps) are paved in cobblestone. But there are wood and dirt paths, some worn down to the stone cliff face, that lead through and around the many booths and shops, which in turn are made of stone and concrete. Some have rotten wooden store fronts and second stories, which hang precariously over the street, blocking out part of the sun. In addition, some sections of the Bazaar streets are missing, large sections cut away to feed light into the Catacomb Gardens, as with all the streets of Atanwan.

It is possible to buy anything in the Bazaar. Thanks to its disorganized nature, it truly seems endless, where each turn reveals new wonders.Things are only well kept along the main cross streets ((the big street and the center long street). The entrance to the Catacomb Gardens can be found in the lower corners of the bazaar, just above the cliff overseeing the Poor Quarter. One entrance is protected by Palace and City Guardsmen, while the other is not. One can reach either entrance if one is willing to slog through the massing shoppers and sellers, while often being pushed precariously close to the cliff.

The Catacomb Gardens

The Catacomb Gardens are dark, and yet...not. Along with luminescent flowers and crystals, light pierces the gloom from above, where whole sections of stone are carved out of the streets and paths of the upper tiers. The entrances are small, unassuming buildings, from which one enters a long, steep stairway that goes down two floor lengths (to sea level). From there one walks through a forest of stone trees, creeped over with moss and flowers and strange, almost unnatural vines. Where the Gardens of the higher Tiers show off the trees and flowers of the civilized land, the Catacomb gardens show off something darker, more secretive.

There are rumors that once, in a long distant past, the people of Atanwan worshiped dark powers below the earth. If one walks off of the main path, one can see bones bleached with magic, strange alters and circles of stones, and small buildings made from tree branches. Of course, one can also find areas so light and beautiful they steal one's breath away, where the crystals and the flowers glow from some inner light, and one feels utterly at peace. The main path weaves hither and yon through the Gardens, from one side to another, up and down and up again, taking the visitors through a mesmerizing display of the strange, the wonderful and the mysterious.

The light grows dimmer near the end, as the sun has much further to fall before it reaches the ground. There are trees there which touch the top, and continue up through the stone to stand proudly in the gardens between the Library walls. At the very end are several small cave mouths, which lead into the open sun of the private beach reserved for residents of the Palace of Pearls.

Two are several other paths through the gardens, some longer and others shorter than the main path. Two such paths cut directly through the Garden's secrets, and lead to the Palace's beach. The path from the protected entrance leads through beautiful, and yes, strange, parts of the garden, and takes about between two and three hours to walk. The path from the other entrance leads to darker parts of the Gardens, past secrets best left alone. It also takes several hours to walk. The main path could take all day to traverse, which is why the Gardens are visited so rarely.

The Private Beach
From the Catacomb Gardens, several small cave mouths open into a private beach. Its sands are white as snow, pure and unruffled by driftwood and the sea's other leavings. It is a near perfect half circle, with the cliff as the longer edge and the ocean within the crescent. The water itself is a bright green blue and so clean it is possible to see to the bottom. Appearance aside, the cove is very deep, and few venture more than a length or two from the beach. A thick coral reef protects the cove, and prevents ships from landing directly on the sands.

Any resident of the Palace of Pearls, from officials, to family of the Steward, to Ambassadors and Reconciled can request access to the beach. A small unit of Palace Guard will then escort this person or persons through the city, the Bazaar and the Gardens. The Guard remains within the Gardens, just beyond the cave mouths, to guard the privacy and well being of those visiting the beach.

High above the beach, at least ten floor lengths (stories/levels) above the sea, one can see the First Tier and the Palace of Pearls. The cliff is sheer, straight and smooth stone that cannot be climbed.

I am sorry this took so long! Every time I sat down to write, something else came up! I will try to get that Van post out tonight too, but no promises. I might have to wait until Monday to post, because we have plans for tomorrow and there are like, guests here or something, sooo...yeah.

Ok, so the only thing I could think of to post was filler for Julius, but it should buy us a few more weeks :)

So... just for reference, I'd like to add the colors of Asiluppe. There's:

Cream | Brown | Seaweed(?) | Aqua

But the most dominant, and used in the flag, are:

BROWN AQUA

And I would like to remove the eagle eye as the emblem. We'll have a wave on the shore instead. Just like one of the Avatar types but not exactly like that. :D
