"Shh...it's alright X. Your not going back." Griffin reassured him. He glared at the slavemaster. He wrapped one arm around the demon and held Sam closer. "I am happy with what I have. I like the challenges they present." Griffin told the man honestly. Yes X was difficult but that didn't matter to him. He continued walking urging the others along. He wanted to get away from the caravan as soon as possible. He wanted to get on the boat that could get them closer to the free kingdom.

X nestled his face deeper into Griffin's shirt, and he clung a bit tighter to him, wishing that the man was holding him like he was Sam. He wished that Sam wasn't there, and that it'd been him in the boy's place, but such thoughts were bad-- and bad thoughts made him bad. If Griffin knew what he was thinking, surely the man would want to get rid of him, despite all the reassurances he offered. He kept quiet after they passed the caravan, and eventually, X worked up the courage to step away from Griffin. He was never more than a few feet away, but it was a drastic change from his usual place right at the man's side, holding onto him for dear life. With every step he took, he shivered, and after a good while, it became harder for him to hold back dejected sobbing. He sniffled a lot, and furiously wiped his face to get rid of any offending tears that would give away what he was doing. Ophelia noticed it at first, and she brought the demon's sorry state to Griffin's attention with a gentle nudge on his shoulder.
But before Griffin had much time to respond, much less deal with X, a woman nearby began waving at any passers by, informing them that the next boat was taking off in a few minutes. The shipyard was in plain sight behind the thin line of trees that separated the town from the riverbank-- the next boat to the nearest city now filling up with passengers quick. "Talk to him on the boat, okay?"

"Talk to him about what?" Griffin asked mostly to himself. After all no matter what he said to X the demon was going to take it the wrong way. He could reassure the demon but X wouldn't believe anything he said. It almost wasn't worth the effort. He didn't know what he would say anyway. He didn't know what was going through X's head. And there was no way that the demon was going to tell him what he was thinking. He followed the others on board the ship. He paid for their passage, which took most of the gold that he had. He didn't mind though. He was willing to do anything to get Sam to someplace where he would be free.
