Name:
Jhanuis "Jin" Bedniv
Age:
22
Gender:
Male
Where are you today?
Jhanuis awoke to find himself lying in the dilapidated husk of some vehicle in some throwaway alley with the barest amount of light and the worst headache he'd been blessed with for the first twenty years of his life. Even better, he felt around his lower left leg when it gave out an itch and found three to four finger-sized holes where something once laid its eggs is his epidermis. In a fit of shock he hit his head on the top of the storage compartment of whatever dead circuitry he'd been sleeping in, waking up his roommate who'd been sleeping on the seats - Kano.
"So," Kano broke it to him while handing Jhanuis a drink. "I live here. I found you sleeping out for god-knows how long against some bushes around that corner there. I was gonna leave you alone, but then I saw some of the bugs trying to make their way under your skin, so I thought you were a dead body. When I tried to... well,
scavenge, I found out you were still alive after all. My good conscious nagged me to bring you back here and cut out those pesky bugs, and here we are. Well, there was that
one other reason..."
"...I owe you my life, then... I can't even begin to-- W-Wait... What other reason...?"
"Well, I thought you had a pretty cute face."
"...Huh?"
So that was how it all began. But wait,
there's more!
Warily taking a peek at the streets around them the next morning, Jhanuis asked Kano why the place seemed so peaceful despite the invading aliens. Kano raised an eyebrow and told him the last attack by the Nemesis forces was 300 years ago, and even now it sounds like a plot from a vintage holodisc somewhere. The two shared puzzled expressions for a few seconds, until Jhanuis put two and two together. And then he asked Kano what the current date was, and what he replied didn't even register with Jhanuis the first and second times. The rest of their conversation is like any fish-out-of-time would have, but Jhanuis thankfully snapped from the doldrums quicker than most. The holes in his leg were enough to convince him this was no simulacrum. After a day of going through his belongings, Jhanuis took off to survey the new world on his own against Kano's objections.
He would then spend the next nine months traveling to the very brims of Neo Babylon, seeing the open seas, and then circling its perimeter, meeting people, getting into adventures, and even managing to sell his wallet and money, both of which was in decent condition, to an old-world museum to be made exhibitions there. It took a while to process the credit transfer, but after all was said and done, Jhanuis returned to the heart of Neo Babylon - and the very same alley he woke up in nine months ago. He broke into a smile the moment he saw Kano still living there, in that broken down mono-angular, and called out to the guy. He invited him to stay with him at a cheap apartment up in layer one, which he'd paid the first three months for with the money he'd collected. Kano accepted, and they've been close roommates since.
And the rest has been more or less good. Jhanuis, now going as "Jin", still reels from a fight he got into during his travels, which has begun to cause a rare, slow crystallizing phenomenon on the cornea's surface of both his eyes, but with regular trips to the optometrist, he could still postpone going fully blind by about ten years.
That should be enough time, he thought, to make a somewhat good life in this new world.
Error Power:
Vertex Manipulation
A difficult power to control, this yet-to-be-discovered power of Jin's allows him to manipulate vertices, any angular points in a polygon (complete or otherwise imaginary), to shift, extend, and spring out into deadly melee attacks manifested in the shape of pitch-black constructs. So to speak, he can cause any vertices to bend by manipulating its angle and then its characteristics on a x-axis and y-axis basis, allowing him to (eventually) do such things as turn a vidcube into a ball of spikes, or hold a card and have one of its angles stab somebody in the chest the next moment. Because these angles act as "imaginary space" (or anti-space, for that matter), the shifted object remains unaffected (unless he inverts the angle to destroy the object itself), and the spikes/constructs remain for as long as Jin warrants them to. The constructs, whatever size they may be, are also literally weightless, but this does not necessarily translate to density.
Additionally, the constructs (due to being anti-space) completely disintegrate any solid matter in their line of movement, though may become safe to the touch when it is not in movement. The projection of an angle can be extremely fast, and the constructs may double as shields (though Jin may not realize this early on), but the overall combat ability is hampered by its taxing effect on Jin; it requires a modicum of concentration and willpower to be done. The power also seems to be tied to his sight, and prolonged use will cause "tears of blood" (damage to ocular tear conducts?).
Skills/Abilities:
Jin possesses a slew of other skills in relatively decent (but still beginner-ish) level of skill, due to his adaptability, ability to learn quickly, and generally high intelligence. Among his skills which he'd picked up from his half-time occupations include cooking, operating machinery, tailing people (don't ask), creating 2D and 3D graphics, writing letters and official minutes, taking care of flora, deftly driving against the flow of traffic (again, don't ask), and courier work.
Socially, Jin's capable of carrying a conversation up to a point, and/but definitely not by himself. He's had some troubles figuring out other people's reactions (different norms and customs after all), but it helps to know what
he wants, and what
he can do. Despite this, Jin's not usually the one to break the ice. This is a mix of both a slight shyness and desire in not offending the norms of the new society he's stuck in.
Magically, Jin has never started an attempt to delve into the arts of mana, and he expects it to be another year before he can start considering it a normal thing. Trauma or not, maybe that's why he's having a hard time finding normal jobs...
Equipment/Possessions:
Jin owns a rented apartment which is his current home, shared with the knowledgeable and street-wise Kano, who helps him settle in and find jobs, among other things. He possesses a wide range of items within his home, which are probably too much to list here. He either buys them at super-cheap prices or picks them up from the ground they were lying on. Jin wants to learn all he can about the new Nera and Neo Babylon, so he either pokes, cleans, or picks apart these devices and objects in his free time, aiding him further in machinery skills.
On his person, Jin usually brings with him some papers for job-finding purposes, papers
for the jobs he already has, some snacks he'd just bought that day (new foods are always a delightful experience for him), an old and worn "vidcube" (video-cube) for getting news... and looking for jobs, contact cards, a contact card holder
for keeping his credits, and one completely legal, completely commercial extendable nightstick for self-defense purposes (which he never leaves at home with Kano by the way).
All of the items on his person are carried on a simple backpack outfitted with a tag carrying limited-use runes that call out to him when he calls to it.
