One minute, you and your crew of fellow bounty hunters were engaged in an adrenaline fueled pursuit of a high-paying target, fast rushing out of a quadrant you were familiar with. Next thing you knew, you found yourself drifting through some sort of rift and you ended up on a planet you quickly discovered is called Pelior. To make matters worse, it appears that your currency is considered outdated by the locals. Pelior, a barren planet of wastes connecting enormous cities, is embroiled in a war between two equally cruel factions. The Forseid, an advanced army hellbent on reshaping the universe into the perfect picture of chaos and ruination, fights against the oppressive, but powerful, Adventus. The citizens of Pelior are one of the last few free populaces in this particular star system, and since you have ended up here, you realize that there is very little choice for you. While the Forseid wishes to reduce Pelior to dust, Adventus simply wishes to enslave it. It is perhaps, for now, the lesser of two evils. However, following more encounters with agents of the Forseid, it becomes clear that their weapons are something more than technology, and its motives become less clear the more you learn about its history.

With a combination of mechs, cybernetics, and ships at your disposal, you will be able to choose your side in this great unfolding battle. Chasing down bounties or competing in tourneys to collect the funds to make you a viable force to reckon with will put you in contact with both the mysterious Forseid, whose vast powers clearly stem from a source worth exploring, and the mega-corporation Adventus, whose seemingly endless wealth, resources, and lines of soldiers will guarantee you an idyllic life if you fight for them. Of course, you could always try to uncover the secrets of both factions and unravel them in hopes that some of their technology can help you return home.

(If you want to be something other than human, try it out here. If choosing to portray a custom alien species, be sure to include details about their appearance in greater detail below than you would when talking about a run of the mill human)
Appearance: (Picture plus a few sentences to discuss things not portrayed, identifying markings, or differences from the source is my preferred method, but you can do text only or picture only. I'm not entirely picky.)

      History:

      Traits:
(Please give yourself four custom traits. Keep in mind that there is more to this RP than just combat. Helpful skills, proficiencies, etc. will be accounted for here.)

Inventory: (Basic items such as food or low-tech tools can be included if you so wish, but most importantly, items such as weapons, gadgets, or drones should be kept track of here.)

    • Designation:

      Height:

      Weight:

      Appearance:

      Model:
(Information on these last two can be found under the technology tab.)

Equipment: (Two pieces of equipment to start with, which can be two different types of weapons or any sort of specialization, including external drones, extra armor... your call. However, you get a third piece based on your model. For a G model, you will have a mounted SMG with laser targeting. For a B model, you get an external projected shield, one that can withstand quite a few hits, but that is far from impenetrable. For an S model, you will get a radar that detects heat signatures and has enhanced night vision.)

  • Pelior resides in the Curgant star system. A fairly large and diverse locale, many life forms have settled across the planets and moons all around Pelior, but the arid planet on which our heroes have ended up is one of the only that has survived the onslaught of Adventus' interests. While Adventus hosts a tourney, allowing mech pilots to fight in ranked combat in order to make money and perhaps gain a high-paying position among the corporation's armed forces, the rest of the world continues to go on without much influence. As a sign of independence, Pelior still uses its own currency, the jyel, as was the traditional money of its first colonists and is still widely used in the handful of other free planets. However, for larger transactions, including mechs and ship parts, Adventus' monopoly has forced Adventus Credits (A-creds) to become increasingly common. Taking jobs from citizens and pursuing bounties will pay in jyels, which still hold great value, but tourney wins will pay out A-creds. It is wise to keep a supply of both currencies.

  • Mech Models

    BCM (Bestial Combat Mainframe)

A mech created in the image of an animal. Much more versatile in terms of design than the HCMs, BCMs can utilize weapons such as claws, jaws, bladed tails, and mounted guns. However, BCMs do lack the ability to grasp external weapons, and once equipped with weapons, they tend to remain specialized for that same arsenal. Most pilots find that the range between quadrupedal, bipedal, winged, and aquatic models and versatility of movement trumps the higher rate of customization in the HCMs.
    • BCM-G: "Gunner" model. While not necessarily equipped for ranged combat, BCM-Gs are built with the greatest capacity for weaponry, being the most physically powerful.
    • BCM-S: "Scout" model. The fastest models, BCM-Ss tend to be best off the front lines. Specialized to hold repair drones, radars, mine launchers and medical equipment, they are utilitarian, light on weapons, but prove invaluable for backup.
    • BCM-B: "Barrier" model. The hardiest of all BCMs, BCM-B models tend to be slower, but they are equipped with the best shields and armors and provide great cover for the others in the group. Not to be underestimated, it can take several smaller mechs to take out a single BCM-B when they are given the time to dig in.

    HCM (Humanoid Combat Mainframe)

A mech created in the image of humans. With their frames allowing for almost endless options to swap out for weapons, they stand taller than BCMs and can be equipped with many more features, but this can tend to weigh them down. Many find piloting an HCM much easier than BCMs because of the standard option for motion-sensing controls. Having hands and feet that are able to be customized with various tools makes them a versatile option on the battlefield, having a much easier time manipulating the environment than their clawed counterparts.
    • HCM-G: "Gunner" model. While not necessarily equipped for ranged combat, HCM-Gs are built with the greatest capacity for weaponry, being the most physically powerful.
    • HCM-B: "Scout" model. The fastest models, HCM-Ss tend to be best off the front lines. Specialized to hold repair drones, radars, mine launchers and medical equipment, they are utilitarian, light on weapons, but prove invaluable for backup.
    • HCM-B: "Barrier" model. The hardiest of all HCMs, HCM-B models tend to be slower, but they are equipped with the best shields and armors and provide great cover for the others in the group. Not to be underestimated, it can take several smaller mechs to take out a single HCM-B when they are given the time to dig in.

As this is a science fantasy RP, you can expect technology to not be nitty-gritty and perfectly scientifically accurate, as to make this accessible to all sorts of people. It's really much more about the story and choices rather than the exact specs on some lasers.

With that said, mech anime will be a fairly large inspiration, but not the entirety of the plot. Combat will take place both with and without robotic giants. Generally speaking, characters will have access to mechs, ships, firearms, traps, cybernetics, hacking, and drones. First starting out, however, players will have limited resources, and each will have their own mech, though they will be considered pretty old-fashioned by Pelior's standards. Completing whichever quests you choose will net you income, and then you can truly begin to branch out. At that point, the limitations will be incredibly slim.

A few rules just to ensure this RP goes smoothly:

  1. Obey all Iwaku rules here, and be respectful to everyone in the game, both the GM and your fellow players.
  2. Talk about your wants for this RP. It will be an extremely choice-driven story, and your input makes sure that you end up where you want to be. Use the OOC, Skype, and even Steam if you want to get in touch with the others here.
  3. Please use proper spelling and grammar in your posts. I'm hoping that everyone can post a paragraph or more per round. I don't need novels, but I want to make sure that the plot moves forward with every round.
  4. Character death is a possibility in this RP. For combat and large encounters, dice rolls (a d20) will be used to determine outcomes. If you stick with your group, chances are, your character will survive. If your character doesn't make it, fear not. You're welcome to make another! It's part of the fun, I think.
Other than that, if you have any questions, just let me know!

Name: Kadan "Myrmidon" Varshok

Age: 24

Height: 177.6 centimeters

Weight: 68 kilograms

Species: Hahnu

Regarding the Hahnu:

Anatomy and Physiology: The hahnu are the closest species to humanity in physical semblance, due to the hahnu homeworld, a planet known as Primus, being one of the few planets that show a shocking resemblance to Earth despite being one third of Earth's size. However, the force of gravity on Primus is nearly double that of Earth (this is due to the composition of the planet's core) which leads to hahnu to innately have twice the natural strength of humans. And while looking like humans, various aspects of hanhu biochemistry are vastly different, leading to the hahnu species to require far less raw nutrition and water to function normally as opposed to humans, despite being primarily carbon-based organisms. These differences are primarily the results of the increased gravity and a different balance of gasses in the atmosphere, and allows hahnu to breathe in most atmospheres. However, hahnu have some issues with buoyancy and need years of practice in order swim normally. The one definite way to tell apart a human and a hahnu is by eye color, as the hahnu iris colors (from least to most common) are grey, purple, red, and yellow. Their brains have a similar structure when compared to humans, but with two additional cortexes that allow for dreamwalking to take place.

Culture: The hahnu locally operate under tribal rulers known as the kinbok, while they report to great chiefs called the konaar. In all, there are seven konaar and ten tribes who subscribe to each konaar (including the konaar's tribe, where he acts as a kinbok). The hahnu do not have a formal religion, instead adhering to ancestor and spirit worship. To the hahnu, ranged weapons are discouraged in most situations as the hahnu consider them dishonorable. As such, many hahnu learn to use melee weapons, to which extent the zahkrii (who are considered the utmost elite warriors of the clans) are given energy weapons that can dissolve bullets and deflect laser blasts. These weapons, as with others in hahnu culture, are considered symbols of status along with tattoos on the left bicep that is put upon an individual when they reach adulthood. Any other bodily markings, save birthmarks and scars, are strictly forbidden.

Appearance:

Above: Kadan in his typical outfit. Below: Kadan's armband tattoo, marking him as a zahkrii, located on his left bicep.

Tattoo%20armband-design.gif

Personality: Kadan walks the fine lines between realism and idealism and knows it, often using his unusual and skewed views to get others to his side. His Hahnu half gives him his cunning tone-of-voice and natural charisma, while his human half gives him his innate leader-style behavior and arrogance.

History: Kadan was born on Primus within the territories of the Adar Clan, specifically the Varshok Tribe. Born to the tribe's kinbok with his younger, fraternal twin brother, Omphak, Kadan was raised as a leader while his brother was raised to be his right hand. In addition to all of his formal education he was trained to be a warrior and a soldier, becoming a zahkrii in time. On his eighteenth birthday he, like every hahnu when they turn eighteen, received his armband tattoo which would mark him as both a zahkrii and a kinbok, as he would soon enough replace his father. However, with age comes betrayal as Omphak's heart filled with greed. In the dead of night, Omphak went out and killed their father using Kadan's energy sword. Omphak's attempt, however, was foiled as Kadan caught him in the act. As such, Omphak was tried and exiled to the space outside of the Primus System. Kadan, however, was riddled with guilt and, with the permission of the elders, chose to resign to outer space until his time to take over as kinbok. As such he took his supplies and made his way on the first ship leaving Primus. In time he found work as a mercenary, with his fighting style earning him the nickname of "Myrmidon." This, soon enough, allowed him to come into the possession of an old, experimental swordsman-styled mech called "Titan 0.5," which he turned into his personal mech after a few business transactions. However, after killing a former employer due to his ethics and morals he's being hunted by a few less-than-reputable men while keeping his own bounty hunting profits high.

Traits:

Cunning- After years of practice an observation, Kadan has learned to use wits and skill to manipulate most people he meets. Using this trait he can achieve various objectives, from convincing a merchant to lower a price to gaining the trust of rather influential people, his cunning can usually be used sucessfully against all but the strongest of minds.

Dreamwalking- The Hahnu are renown for being able to enter and control the dreams of others, as both communications and assassinations are possible depending on the dreams being control. It is called "imaar hahnu" in the native tongue, with the species name "hanhu," literally translating to "dream." Naturally a species of lucid dreamers, a well-trained hanhu can enter the dream of another sentient being within a defined range.

Eidetic Memory- As with being dreamwalkers, those of hahnu blood have eidetic memories, allowing them to remember exactly what transpired in their dreams. The fact they can never forget anything is a blessing and a curse. As while remembering everything allows for skills to faster increase and turns certain situations advantageous, it also means that certain pains will have to last an eternity.

Zahkrii- "Zahkrii" is the hahnu term for a true and adaptable warrior. Trained in the way of the fist and the blade, a zahkrii is trained that the mind is the ultimate weapon and, using it, any weapon is only an extension of the mind's influence body. As a result, most zahkrii will have a distinctive preference for melee weapons. However, you'll find that they can easily learn to use and/or adapt to any weapon you give them as a result of this extensive training.

Ace, bro. You totally broke the first rule you see in the cs. You provide nothing about your supposed race. C'mon man.

As I wish to avoid sounding rude, I will point out that there is a reason why the history is still a work in progress, as a large section of it will be about the Hahnu. This is due to a lack of visual reference.

So long as you have it accounted for, that's fine by me. I can wait for the completes history. When everything is in order, I will be able to give you my full feedback before approval. Don't worry too much about visual reference. You can always edit it into the CS later if you find something that really fits.

The CS is completed.

MAN
Name:
Vaaran Deschek (Vah-rahn De-shek)
Age: 28
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 172
Species: Keplerian: A subspecies of human native to Kepler 452b, one of the earliest discovered and colonized Terroid (Earth-like) planets. Due to the thinner atmosphere and rough terrain, Keplerians have adapted to have far greater stamina than most humans, allowing them to keep running while others would begin to lag behind. Keplerians also have stronger immune systems, due to being exposed to both the range of natural diseases found on Kepler 452b, as well as introduced diseases from Earth. Since the planet is larger, it has a longer day/night cycle, allowing Keplerians to stay awake for roughly two days before needing a 12 hour sleep. Most keplerians have developed enhanced, cat-like night vision, also giving them eerie, photo reflective irises of either blue or green.
Appearance: Infiltrator.jpg
Vaaran has blue eyes, a scar on the right side of his face that does not damage the eye, and he has a mechanically augmented index finger on his right hand. The tattoo on his face supposedly sharpens his eyesight.
Personality: Vaaran is a joker, not often seen off-mission without a smile on his face, but knows when it's time to get serious. He's a kind soul, but only to his allies. He's more than happy to gun down anyone who stand in his way, often acting before thinking.

History: Though he rarely talks about his past, Vaaran was originally the son of a military commander on Kepler 452b, orphaned during a conflict with a separatist group attempting to stage an uprising. He was raised by his drunkard ex-military uncle, who's loose cannon lifestyle gave Vaaran the right combination of military prowess and selfish recklessness it takes to become a renowned mercenary. HE has spent most of his life getting his thrills chasing bounties for cash.

Traits:

"Legs of steel and lungs of iron"- Vaaran prides himself on his natural Keplerian ability to outrun just about anyone, even if not in speed, in distance. He can run at a full sprint for a good hour or so, run for about three, jog a solid seven, and walk for days before tiring, sleep needs aside.

Stealth Unmatched- Kepler has a lot of animals on it. Most of them need to be hidden from, the rest snuck up on to catch. This has made Keplerians masters of moving silently on foot, often being taken for no more than a light gust of wind in the brush.

Senses of Beasts- Remember those animals I was talking about? Most of them move silent as death. Necessity for awareness has heightened all "seven" of the Keplerian senses- smell, taste, touch, hearing, sight, spatial awareness, and the supposed ability to "sense other beasts" in the area.

Field medic- Vaaran has had training to become proficient at dealing with wounds in the field. He can patch up bullet holes, cast broken limbs, and treat any other minor wounds. No substitute for proper medical care, but you'll live.

Inventory:
The pouch in his right thigh contains medical supplies, including dressings, pain meds, bandages, disinfectant wipes, spray-on skin, and injectable bandages for deep wounds. The thing on his left thigh is a water flask with built in filtration systems and a condenser, taking water out of the air itself. It has proven invaluable on multiple occasions.
Revolver.jpg Vaaran's custom sidearm is a plasma-based projectile gun with a revolver shape and rotating cylinder, basically firing pellets of superheated air at ridiculous speeds. About the same range and accuracy as a normal solid projectile gun, far more damaging. Never runs out of ammo, but has a cool down needed if all six prepared shots in the cylinder are fired rapidly. The revolver style is purely cosmetic, while the pistol's function differs none from standard plasma projectile handguns.
The 09.jpg The 09 model submachine gun is Vaaran's main weapon, having greater range, accuracy, and rate of fire. It is, however, still just a regular kinetic solid projectile weapon and runs out of ammo quickly. He carries five spare clips, and one in the gun.
Modern Shortsword.jpg His blade is by far his favorite weapon, though not his most-used due to its impracticality in most modern combat situations. This is often wielded in tandem with his revolver, and is made of Keplerian Steel, a type of steel exclusive to manufacturers on Kepler 452b, able to stand up to even the hottest laser-based blades while retaining a laser edge no matter what it's hit against. The most frequent use of the blade is as a general survival tool, functioning as both a machete and a short sword.

MECH
Designation:
All-terrain Quadrupedal Scout Vehicle; "The Cricket"

Height: 5 meters (16 feet) at the "shoulder"

Weight: About 2.8 metric tons

Appearance: Cricket Mech.jpg

Model: BCM-S

Equipment: Shoulder-mounted machine gun, strengthened frontal armor, S-model radar with heat tracking and night vision.

So. The "Titan" can basicly crush The Cricket with one foot. Are there any scale limitations in play Drifter? I need to know for my mech

While the Titan could crush a Cricket, it'd never catch one. It's a scout mech, and on top of that generally designed for speed. I imagine the Titan as a well armored foot soldier. The Cricket is light cavalry. The foot soldier could take down the cavalry, but only if it could catch up.

Hellis is right, of course. I wasn't super duper paying attention to scale, which is incredibly important in this type of RP. Shows how long it's been since I've worked with mechs.

Anyway, for BCMs, mainly quadrupeds, they're gonna be shorter than HCMs. For ease and convenience, I'm just going to ask players to use metric measurements so I don't need to switch my scales around.

BCMs will range between 5-10 meters. HCMs will range between 8-12 meters.

... I take it I can't use the Cricket, then.

Well, you can. Just size it up a bit. I understand the desire to have a small mech, but I think keeping it not too much smaller than 5 meters would be best. I'm willing to bend that to 4... 12 feet is still a decently buglike size in comparison.

I was talking about the picture. You can see most of the driver inside, and it throws off the scale. I can change it, it's no problem.

Ah, okay. Yeah, to be fair, I wouldn't worry too much about the picture. Really, it's only there to give everyone a good idea of what you're talking about. The scale of the pilot is nothing to fret over. I will likely be using some images for NPC mechs that will show them standing next to humans that sort of mess up the scale, but the whole point of the visual is just to get the build of the machine itself across.

Fair enough then. I edited it to fit.

I'm working on my CS right now. c: I have a few questions, though:
May I start out with more than one character?
Are people with partial or completely robotic limbs (cyborgs) allowed?
Would I be able to use a real person as a picture reference for my character's appearance?

I'm going to say stick to one character at this moment. Once you get your first CS in, then I will be in a better position to approve or deny that request.

Cyborgs are allowed, just note that any cybernetic that's not simply there as a replacement limb will have to be mentioned in a custom. A character with both legs missing and replaced with standard robotic limbs would be fine with just a mention in appearance and history, but if those legs provided them with the ability to make incredible jumps, one of your four customs would go into that.

As for an appearance picture of a real person, that's fine by me. I do ask that you try to steer clear of really famous celebrities if possible (once had to GM a Johnny Depp clone who slowly began to act suspiciously like Jack Sparrow, so now I'm a bit wary) but other than that, any picture will do.

[BCOLOR=transparent]History: [/BCOLOR][BCOLOR=transparent]Born on one of the many human e[/BCOLOR][BCOLOR=transparent]xtra-solar colonies, Laura grew up around soldiers and spaceships, so she was captivated by them at a young age. @Spectre of the Fade, Laura is accepted. I'll be adding her into the OP, and depending on how many other people we get in here, you might be making that second character after all.
