Good day.

Lately I've been itching for a 'monster of the week' type of role play about a government organization that secretly investigates and stops supernatural threats under the guise of being regular federal agents. Basically a crossover between Criminal minds/CSI/NCIS and the X-files/supernatural/Grimm/Fringe.

The main idea I have is a group of highly skilled individuals, each the top of their field are recruited (in some cases perhaps not exactly willingly) into a secret but well funded team, that gets sent out across the United States to investigate strange, unusual cases, and make sure the problem is solved, while also maintaining the public's ignorance of the supernatural world.

The secret nature of their work, and their constant need for readiness means they are housed in a government facility, albeit a very luxurious one, and have access to high end equipment, though they can requisition gear from local federal facilities if needed. Their former identities are gone, and nobody from their old life knows they are alive.

For this game, I'd like at least three or four other players, and perhaps as many as seven at most t o keep things manageable.

Maybe you want to play a computer hacker who got burned, and made a deal rather than face life in prison.
Maybe a scientist with an uncanny knowledge of the hidden world
A law enforcement agent or ex military person who saw things they shouldn't have, but whose skills got them brought on the inside, instead of taken care off
Maybe a psychologist who was brought on to profile the suspects, or a doctor to help with the physical side of the investigation.

There are many possible character options, so feel free to use your imagination>

I have several 'episodes' plots already mostly fleshed out, as well as an overarching plot for the 'first season' but I'd always love input and ideas from other players as well.

You have my tentative interest.

Well, hopefully some more people will find this interesting, but in the meantimes if you have any questions, let me know.

I suppose my main question is whether or not this is a strictly men in black type deal, where the investigators in question aren't bringing much military force to most encounters, or if it's a mix of that and something like SCP's Mobile Task Forces, wherein some threats require more analog - or even esoteric - firepower and methods to take down. I have a character idea in mind, former military guy (maybe a Navy Seal or spec-ops or something) whose squad ended up encountering something supernatural while deployed overseas and got wiped with him as the sole survivor. But if this is strictly a men in black scenario revolving around more subtle investigations and whatnot then I might have to shift gears a bit.

I was also curious about what time period this would be taking place in as well.

Edited that last part because I completely missed the part where this would be taking place in the United States.

The game is kind of a mix of both. While ostensibly and officially project X is an investigative unit, the nature of the threats they face leads to combat situations more often than not. It's kind of like on the show criminal minds. The real world analogue of the BAU is a team of profilers that hardly ever are involved in actual fieldwork, let alone hostage situations or standoffs, but in the show most episodes end in a chase or a shoot out.

For project X it's even more than that. While the team is about investigating and containing, the nature of the adversaries means that containing more often than not means ending the threat permanently.

It would take place in roughly modern times, I was thinking in the 2000's where most modern technology is available, but smartphones and ubiquitous home camera systems are not yet a thing. But if people prefer I could move it a few years back or forth.

And as for the location, I chose the US, as it's a vast country with many different environments and most potential players would have at least a basic familiarity with it.

I'd be up for the doc

This looks cool to me! A shrimpy/eccentric scientist character feel right for me in my head. Probably not great at defending themself, but with some good knowledge on what is theoretically harmful. A "monsterologist" in a way, I guess.

the us also has a lot of interesting regional folklore that we can reference. a mothman or jersey devil case would be fun

you have piqued my interest

Hi to everyone here. I'm a friend of Ashi's. I just signed up to let the people expecting an answer know he was in a car accident about a week and a half ago. He's going to be fine, but it will be a week or two before he'll be able to respond himself again. He just wanted to get a message out

Oh damn. No worries about a response—I hope he focuses on himself and gets well soon.

Yikes! Get well soon, Ashi!

I have a character who is (or was) a freelance monster-hunter (a la Supernatural) who could either have been scooped up by the Agency, or could be encountering them for the first time because she and they ended up on the same monster hunt.
