PROJECT: FIREFLY
a fallen soul - uppermost
The third world war left mostly ashes and rubble in its wake, having unleashed a nuclear chaos so great that, twenty-two years later, the world still struggles to build itself back up from the wreckage. Radioactive matter now lingers in the atmosphere, ominous and ever-present, swallowing the world in complete darkness. Sirens go off to herald the B L A C K  R A I N, a torrent of acid so toxic they can cause irritations and bruises on the skin and deteriorate infrastructures.

While all this mayhem unfolds in the background, the government, in its fumbling state, grapples to maintain its hold on society by relying on private corporations. As an inevitable result, these corporations have risen to power. One such example is B I O T E C H, a company based in Las Vegas that is geared towards technological experiments. Through the help of BioTech, Vegas has managed to rebuild itself from the ashes faster than any other city could, despite suffering near-obliteration from the war. Taking on a new name but retaining its unique flavor as a city of entertainment and debauchery, New Vegas—otherwise known as S A L V A T I O N  C I T Y—continues to prosper.

However, as small groups begin to rebel and rising corporations attempt to overthrow BioTech from its seat of power, drastic measures must be taken. For that reason, BioTech has pioneered P R O J E C T : F I R E F L Y. Criminals and misfits alike are given a choice between lifelong servitude to the government or banishment to the Outlands, where an almost certain death awaits them. It is a contract signing with the devil as they sell their souls to the government, only to be used as weapons against BioTech’s many rival companies.

With state-of-the-art technology and augmentations both seamless and unrefined, each Firefly has their own unique skillset and design. They live comfortably within BioTech’s headquarters and are paid a small sum as a reward for their efforts, but they cannot afford luxury. Fireflies spend most of their days within a golden cage where their entire lives are regulated and monitored, awaiting their next mission.

Godmodding, powerplaying, metagaming, and the likes are strictly forbidden.
No OOCs in any of the threads. There is a discord server where all OOC chatter should take place. Alternatively, you can PM me if you have any questions.
Please do not post WIPs/reserves in any of the threads. There is a testing area for that. Post complete or don't post at all.
Make sure that all your posts are mobile friendly or at least have a plain, code-free mobile version.
No one-liners, no novels. Quality takes precedence, but posts should be at least one paragraph or ten sentences each.
Let me know if you're going on hiatus and when we should expect you to come back.
If you want to drop out, please say so. I may request you to put your character sheet in a spoiler, but that’s all I will ask of you before you leave.
Please keep the OOC drama-free and respect each other. If you experience any issues, you are encouraged to take it up with me privately.
Only one character is allotted per role-player. Eventually, I might let folks create additional characters, provided that they have shown consistent activity throughout the role-play.

stuff

{ salvation city }
›› A place decked with neon holograms and skyscrapers, where time is an infinite stretch of night and indulgence reigns supreme. Here you can find technology in its most advanced state and a plethora of entertainments—theatres, clubs, casinos, anything you can dare to imagine and more. Amidst the hustle and bustle of this sleepless city and the low murmur of hovercrafts stands BioTech Incorporated—a daunting edifice that towers over all the rest.

With entertainers sprawling its clean streets and many other various distractions, Salvation City is a popular spot among tourists as there is never a moment of boredom within it.

{ the edge }
›› Between Salvation City and the feared Outlands lies the Edge. Known as the slums, it is a network of alleys far removed from the city center and hidden away from view. Life here is crime-ridden and gritty, and those who can’t find success in Salvation City often wind up here among the thieves, smugglers, and drug addicts, who are collectively called the Strays.

Though it is far less beautiful than the City and certainly less advanced, a surplus of cyberparts, among other things, are sold here for a much cheaper price, certainly making an occasional trip to the Edge worth the risk.

{ the outlands }
›› Beyond the colossal walls of the Edge lies the Outlands, a place of unimaginable terror. It is a seemingly endless stretch of desert littered with trash, where not a single shelter can be found. It is in this place that the banished roam aimlessly—flesh rotting due to exposure to the Black Rain, mind rotting due to the subpar living conditions. Very few live past a couple weeks in the Outlands, for most succumb to the Black Rain or meet a gruesome fate at the hands of flesh-eating Outlanders. Those who do survive eventually become mentally damaged or mutated beyond the point of recognition.

One might be able to find another civilization beyond the Outlands, but it is nigh impossible due to its sheer size and the constant danger involved when traversing its landscape.

{ area 51 }
›› Very little is known about the place, and its existence is oftentimes brushed off as children’s tale. It might have existed at some point before the war, but whether it is still intact since the time afterward is unknown. Some say that Area 51 has become an asylum of sorts for Outlanders. Others say that something far more fearsome brews there. However, whether these rumors are true or not remains largely concealed, as those who venture out into the Outlands are never heard of again.
